Survivor Series

Pre Show: Tag #1 Contendership match: The Empire vs Truth and Consequences vs The Primetime Playas

Barrett and Sheamus have been waiting for the opportunity to take what they believe are their belts back. The two won the titles in their very first match together at Wrestlemania and the duo have continued to impress regardless of whether they have the straps or not. This opener saw them take one step closer to regaining their throne in a hard fought, but ultimately comfortable, victory. Xavier Woods almost got a roll up pin on Sheamus, that it, if he was the legal man at the time. Woods hadn't seen the tag so when he got up a surprise Bull Hammer Elbow was waiting for him.

Winners: The Empire

Main Show: Sin Cara vs Rey Mysterio

The tag team champions squared off in an exciting fast paced contest with many near falls. Both men impressed early on but it didn't take long for Rey's age to become apparent. There was a sense that this could be Rey's last hoorah and if it was it was perhaps more of a whimper. The former world champion attempted to spring of the ropes after a 619 but clearly landed badly on his knee when Sin Cara managed to roll out of the way. Sin Cara almost seemed reluctant to capitalize on the injury but did what he had to get the win, eventually via a Swanton Bomb. After the match however the money in the bank holders Fandango and Tyler Breeze made their way down to the ring. In a great opportunistic move the duo cashed in their contract for a tag team title shot. Sin Cara was seemingly left to fight for himself until Rey, despite his injury, climbed back into the ring to help his tag partner despite the bad blood between them. Breeze tried to take advantage of the injury but Rey had the heart to fight on and hit Breeze with a 619. However when Fandango was tagged in he connected with a devastating kick to he injured knee. Rey was only just able to make the tag but his attempts were enough to provide SIn Cara with all the helped he needed to be able to roll Fandango up.

Winner: Sin Cara (Money in the Bank cashed in: Winners: SIn Cara and Rey Mysterio)

United States Title Match: Antonio Cesaro vs Tensai vs Santino Marella vs Brodus Clay

Cesaro's dominant reign has seen him defeat some tough opponents but never before had he been required to defeat three men at once. Cesaro looked strong but on numerous occasions he almost lost the belt, Tensai hit a big splash on Santino but luckily for Cesaro, Brodus was able to break up the pin. Brodus then almost got the win after his own big splash on Tensai but Cesaro slid in from his lurking position outside the ring to hit a big European Uppercut before hitting the Neutraliser for the win.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

CM Punk vs Big E Langston

Whether you view it as the fall of CM Punk, the rise of Big E Langston or a little or both, the fact that these two fought an extremely close fight speaks volumes on how the landscape of the main event of WWE has changed over the last year or so. Big E truly pushed Punk to his limits but any claim that Big E is above Punk in the pecking order yet were put to rest when Punk was able to weather the storm and lift Langston up for the GTS. After the match Punk decided to add a further message by locking in the Anaconda Vice until numerous officials had to break it up.

Winner: CM Punk

AJ Lee and Paige vs Eva Marie and The Funkadactyls

AJ and Paige have had to fight against the odds against the Total Divas, everybody has. However with the newcomer Ronda Rousey in their corner the match was allowed to be much more even, even if it was still a handicap match. Eva almost hit her Reverse DDT on AJ twice but when the Divas champion was tagged in the momentum swung. The Funkadactyls attempted their usual move of distracting the ref whilst the other helped Eva but Ronda was there to hit a big double clothesline that took them both out, meanwhile uninterrupted, Paige was able to hit the Paige Turner for the win.

Winners: AJ Lee and Paige

Daniel Bryan vs Chris Jericho

The past year has seem some great matches but this is the first to literally have the crowd chanting match of the year, and for good reason. Bryan is still red hot at the moment despite losing some momentum by dropping the belt to Cena but Jericho was here to prove himself and would stop at nothing to do so. It was clear early on that Chris still had it, but as the match went on he proved that he can still truly compete with some of the best. Despite this when Bryan locked in the Yes Lock it looked like Jericho was about to tap but he was just able to reach the ropes. Jericho then built up some momentum but whether it was a Lionsault or a Codebreaker, Bryan had the heart to kick out. The fight spilt outside the ring and the two took turns throwing each other into the barricade and the steel steps. Jericho then took prepared the announce table and tried to lay Bryan on it but was too exhausted. The two continued to fight and it was Daniel who was able to lay Chris on the table. Bryan climbed back into the ring and slowly managed to get onto the top rope, he then leaped towards Jericho and was able to hit a diving headbut but he clearly also took a lot of the damage himself. The two were both motionless and neither could break the ten count.

Draw: Double Countout

Traditional Survivor Series Match: Randy Orton, Curtis Axel, Kane, Harper and Rowan vs Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and The Big Show

With plenty of both on going rivalries and history between many of the superstars in the match it was no wonder that he had a real big fight feel with seemingly lots on the line. Cody was able to pin Harper early on after a disaster kick. Next elimination was Rowan when Ziggler hit the ZigZag and followed it up with a Lionsault. Orton was furious that his team had fallen down to three but when Kane was tagged in this soon changed. Kane and Ambrose clashed but after a big throat thrust and body slam Dean had to tag out. Kane continued his rampage with a chokelam to Rollins but Seth was just able to kick out. Big Show and Kane then clashed with Kane again coming out on top, this time his chokeslam resulted in an elimination. Axel was the next eliminated however when Rollins was able to hit The Blackout but Randy jumped in quick to RKO Seth and get revenge for his protege, as well as an elimination for his team. Ambrose was next in and was able to blindside Orton and gain control of the match, after a rake to the eyes however Randy was able to tag Kane in who chokeslammed Ambrose for the pin. It was down to Kane and Orton vs Ziggler and Rhodes but this soon changed when Ziggler was able to catch Kane by surprise and roll him up. Orton and Cody squared off next, with Orton hitting the RKO for the elimination, Ziggler then came in but was reversed when he attempted a Zig Zag with Orton once again hitting the RKO, this time for the win.

Winner: Randy Orton, Curtis Axel, Kane, Harper and Rowan (Sole Survivor: Randy Orton)

WWE World Heavyweight Title: John Cena vs Roman Reigns

In an entertaining main event Roman had his first ever shot at singles gold in the WWE. Reigns had truly leapfrogged up the mountain which caused many, perhaps included Cena, to believe that he wasn't ready for the belt. This showed when on numerous occasions the youngster was frustrated at not getting pin, especially when Cena kicked out of his Spear. Cena was able to pull the momentum in his favour and after a 5 knuckle shuffle he almost pulled Roman up for an AA but Reigns was able to roll out the ring and regroup with The Usos. Cena surprised many by going up top and diving onto all three members of The Samoan Swat Team. Cena dragged Reigns back in but was unable to get the pin. The two continued to clash, both tiring, but it was Cena who came out on top after hitting a powerbomb. Reigns got to his feet but was met with a running shoulder block but when Cena tried to follow this up with another one, Jimmy Uso pulled his legs from under the rope whilst Jey distracted the referee. Cena kept on his feet but turned round just to get his with a Spear. Reigns roared as he pinned Cena to become the champion.

Winner: Roman Reigns

After the match Reigns was celebrating with his The Usos when Zigglers music played. Dolph ran down the ring and cashed in his briefcase. The referee ushered the Usos out the ring to allow the two to fight.

WWE World Heavyweight Title: Roman Reigns vs Dolph Ziggler

In a short match, Reigns fougth desperately to keep his newly won title but when Ziggler ducked under a superman punch he was able to hit the ZigZag. He went for a Lionsault to finish it off but The Usos once again interfered by pulling the rope down which sent Ziggler outside. Cena however was just getting up and went to the aid of Ziggler by taking out The Usos by AAing both them onto the hard floor. Ziggler was able to slid back in the ring but Reigns was waiting with a spear, Ziggler however reversed it into a DDT, pulled himself up and hit the Lionsault for the win.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

The PPV ended with it's third world champion of the night ecstatic with his belt, celebrating on the turnbuckle.

Thoughts on Survivor Series

Quite a few low scores this month but I think that's mostly down to the draw which was always going to bring everyone down. Only other big surprise I think is Reigns. Plenty of reasons why I gave him the win really, I wanted Dolph to cash in on a heel for one, also just quite the statement to put someone young like Reigns over Cena but with it being via cheating I think it's realistic enough, main reason is it just ties into some longer terms storylines well too. Especially with it being near the Rumble I like having plenty of people who could arguably claim to be number one contender Reigns (rematch clause), Cena and Bryan (never got to use their rematch) even Orton after being the sole survivor. Anyway, the next PPV is the last both of the above contest and of this part of the diary. Database in 99% ready so I should be good to go with only a couple of days gap in between TLC and the first RAW. Predictions for TLC will be up either late tonight or tomorrow. Thanks again for all the predictions and poll responses. The starting popularity poll will close now to give me time to change those before I start. One or two final big polls coming up soon.

I agree with Kijar... It was a chaotic show. TWO cash-ins! And I love the idea of having the Tag Champs take each other on 1 on 1, and then have a Money in the Bank cash in on them!! and then for Rey and Sin Cara to WIN!! brilliant booking!! Shame Reigns' reign didn't last long... but you're right, LOADS of potential challengers for Ziggler now... Shame it couldn't have been right before the Elimination Chamber... Would have made that one HELL of an unpredictable match!!! Like in real life, I pretty much know Christian and Cesaro won't win... Cena will probably fight Bray Wyatt at 'Mania, so he won't win... but It could be Orton retaining or Bryan winning and making the 'Mania Main Event a 3-way... But YOUR Chamber would be Ziggler vs Reigns vs Orton vs Cena vs Bryan vs one other... probably Jericho... and it would be SO unpredictable!!

December Recap/ TLC Preview

The World Title

After the chaotic events at Survivor Series, Regal wasn’t sure what to do with everyone from John Cena to Randy Orton and Roman Reigns to Cody Rhodes requested a title shot at the final PPV of the year. Ziggler knew that a rematch with Reigns was coming but Regal would later insert John Cena into the match due to the nature of which he lost the belt to the Samoan superstar. Ziggler however is determined to prove that it is finally his time despite the challenge ahead of him being huge.

CM Punk’s rampage

Once again Regal was at war with Punk this month with the straight edge superstar getting angry when it was Cena instead of himself who was put into the title match. Punk believed that after beating Langston he deserves the shot. Regal rejected his request which sent Punk into a frenzy. For two weeks he interrupted matches, even random backstage promos all to protest his position. Regal was pushed to do something he never thought he would do, ask Paul Heyman for help. Paul hasn’t been seen for quite some time but appeared on RAW to try and talk to Punk but when he received a stern warning not to interfere Heyman was unsure of what to do. Regal asked Heyman if he would find someone to take down Punk and stop the chaos and so Heyman started scouting on RAW. After impressing in a match against Sheamus, Rollins was Heyman’s pick. Seth at first refused to work with Paul but when Regal told Rollins that a win against Punk would jump him higher in the title picture he decided to help.

Rematch

After their double count out draw at Survivor Series it was no surprise that neither Bryan nor Jericho were satisfied. Jericho asked for the rematch and Bryan was happy to accept. However this time the match will be fought under submission rules with no count outs or disqualifications. Will Jericho cut down Bryan in his attempt to prove his relevance? Or will the fan favourite be able to insert himself back into hunt for the title he has yet to have a rematch for?

The monster and the madman

After losing to Kane back at Hell in a Cell, Ambrose hasn’t quite been the same. To use the word unhinged in relation to him is nothing new but it would be impossible to face the demon in hell without coming out of it a different man. What is more worrying however is Dean’s complete lack of fear. He’s made it clear to Kane that no matter what he does to him, he’s going to keep coming for the title. Kane was happy to put this to the test by giving Dean a match at TLC.

The Tag Team Titles

After the injury suffered in the match against Sin Cara, and then made worse in the subsequent tag team match, Rey Mysterio announced he was taking some time out in which he would decide whether to carry on wrestling or not. This leaves Sin Cara without a tag partner which is especially bad when considering that The Empire are in line for a title shot at TLC. Luckily for Sin Cara somebody came forward to be his partner, albeit not someone he expected, Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio stated that for the good of Mexican pride he will help Sin Cara and whilst he was at first reluctant and not ready to trust Alberto, Sin Cara eventually gave him Rey’s belt.

#1 Contendership

The feud between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes has been ongoing for most of the year. Especially after Cody retired Batista, it has been a heated and entertaining rivalry. Regal has made the match between them even more important by stating that the winner of the match will go on to face the champion at Royal Rumble.

Battle of the Divas

After defeating Eva and The Funkadactyls, Paige wanted to issue and open challenge to any divas for her title. In a backstage segment with Ronda, AJ stated how she was considering answering it but before she could, Natalya responded to the challenge. AJ is clearly annoyed that she hasn’t got the shot but in general seems to be behind Paige in her match which could easily be her hardest challenge yet.

United States Title

Cesaro has now held the United States title for 5 months and has defeated many big challenges, this month’s might be his biggest, it certainly is literally. The Big Show has been unable to keep his position high up the card as the young and hungry talent continuously usurp him. Will TLC be the night he puts his foot down and proves he’s still got it?

TLC

Pre Show: Ryback vs 3MB

This match went exactly as one would expect, Ryback demolishing all members of 3MB. Although 3MB are pretty much as far down the card as you can get, it’s still impressive for any one man to be as dominant as Ryback, who won by Shell Shocking both Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal at the same time. Since defeating Goldberg, Ryback has yet to truly keep hold of momentum but wins like this, even on pre shows, can only help.

Winner: Ryback

Main Show: Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton

With a WWE title shot on the line at Royal Rumble these two both went all out to open the show. Cody has had a great year rising up the card but whenever he seems to get a real chance at breaking through, he fails at the last hurdle for example losing to Daniel Bryan in his first ever title shot. This match gave him another shot at the title but Orton is experienced beyond his years and always dangerous, especially when rising the wave of momentum that being the sole survivor gives you. The match was entertaining and the clear dislike each other have for their opponent certainly gave it an edge, in the end though it was Orton who was able to hit the RKO and put Cody away.

Winner: Randy Orton

United States Title: Antonio Cesaro vs The Big Show

It’s getting to the point now where it’s hard to see anyone taking the belt of Cesaro. Despite arguably being the lowest ranked belt in the company, it would be hard to call Antonio anything but the strongest champion. This match was no different, Big Show fought hard and even managed to hit a big Show Stopper but Cesaro was able to avoid the WMD and eventually pull of the amazing feat of hitting the Neutraliser on the giant.

Winner: Antonio Cesaro

Divas Title: Paige vs Natalya

In a close match, these two divas put on what is likely to remembered as the best divas match of the year. These two pushed each other and weren’t shy to hit some heavy hits, there was however the real sense that whilst Natalya is perhaps the most technically talented Diva, Paige is just simply tougher. She hit harder and got up faster and this inevitably paid off with the win after a stiff clothesline took out Natalya.

After the match however Jerry Lawler made his way down the ring with Eva Marie, he announced that the Board of Directors have made him the GM of the Divas division and his first action is to give his wife Eva a shot, right now. The bell rang and whilst Paige was able to try fight on a roll up from Eva got a surprise win.

Winner: Paige (Followed by Eva winning the title)

Seth Rollins vs CM Punk

As Paul Heyman’s handpicked superstar to try to take down Punk, a lot was riding on Rollins shoulders. It was also perhaps the biggest singles match of his career. The rising star managed to deal with such pressure well, and put on a great performance. The two had similar styles that melded well for a great match. Punk has been unable to truly earn a title shot lately but a convincing win here would surely add his name to the long list of people that have a claim to the title. Rollins managed to escape the Anaconda Vice on numerous occasions and managed to gain some momentum with a big flying knee of the top rope. When he tried the move again however he learnt how important it is to mix up your game against a veteran like Punk who was ready to reply with a kick to the head. Rollins was dazed which have Punk the chance to hit the GTS but Rollins was able to kick out. Punk was shocked and was pulled into a rollup whilst he was arguing with the referee which very almost got Rollins the win. Seth continued to push Punk to his limits including hitting a big superplex but when Punk reversed an irish whip to pull Rollins up again, the second GTS got the win.

Winner: CM Punk

Tag Team Titles: Sin Cara and Alberto Del Rio vs The Empire

Sin Cara was clearly still unsure of whether to trust Del Rio but his performance in the early stages of the match certainly helped this a bit. Sheamus and Wade are tough opponents and Del Rio is perhaps one of the few members of the roster who can keep up with their stiff brawling due to his mma experience. Despite this it was Sin Cara’s flashy moveset which helped the duo take control of the match but Sheamus was able to his a Brogue Kick to kill this momentum in its tracks. Luckily for Sin Cara, Del Rio had tagged himself in just before the kick, unbeknownst to Sheamus which gave him the chance to roll him up to retain the belts. Afterwards Sin Cara was unsure what went on but ultimately thanked Alberto for the win.

Winners: Sin Cara and Alberto Del Rio

Intercontinental Title: Kane vs Dean Ambrose

Despite this time there existed no Cell, this match still managed to be as brutal as their bout at the Hell in a Cell PPV, Kane spent most the match dragging Ambrose around using whatever he need to inflict damage, whether this was his boot, fist or the unforgiving steel steps. Ambrose was put through hell but kept on battling against the champion, even managing plenty of his own offense such a strong whip into barricade. The match seemed to be over however when Kane managed to hit the Tombstone but Dean surprised Kane by kicking out. Kane was unsure of what next to do and so went for a Chokeslam but Ambrose reversed it into a DDT. Ambrose then began targeting the head of the champion with a torrent of punches. Kane almost got back into it with a second Tombstone but Ambrose managed to scramble off Kane and hit the Headlock Driver to win the title.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Submission Rules: Daniel Bryan vs Chris Jericho

After the previous match it would be tough to call this the most brutal of the night, but it definitely makes its claim. Jericho had already proven that he can push himself up to Daniel’s level but tonight he was out for the win. Bryan was more than capable at setting a fast tempo though which the ageing Jericho found difficult to keep up with. Both have their dangerous submission finishers but the two didn’t limit themselves and found numerous ways to twist and contort their opponents which often found use for the no dq aspect of the match such as Jericho bending Bryan’s leg round the turnbuckle or Bryan using a steel chair to make what would be a deadly armbar even worse. The match pushed both to their limits but Bryan’s higher level of stamina was the real difference when after the two were both down exhausted, Bryan was the first man to kip up, giving him the advantage needed to hit the running knee. From then he locked in the Yes Lock and forced Jericho to tap.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

WWE World Title: TLC Match: Dolph Ziggler vs Roman Reigns vs John Cena

In the blockbuster main event three men battled it out for what has recently renamed WWE World Title. Ziggler has only just claimed the belt but it was obviously at huge risk. Luckily for Dolph, Cena seemed intent on getting some revenge on Reings which often gave the champion the chance to climb the ladder for the belt. Reings, without The Usos who had been banned from ringside, struggled to keep up but always had the ability to force himself into the match such as his superman punch that knocked Ziggler off the ladder. Reigns hit a big spear outside the ring that put Cena through the barricade but Ziggler was able to use this to gain control of Reigns and drag him to the announce table. Ziggler set him up and wowed the crowd by hitting a lionsault from the apron to the announce table but the distance was arguably too big of an ask as Ziggler connected with the side of the table almost as much as Reigns. All three men were down but Ziggler and Cena started to move, it was then that the lights out went. When they came back on all three members of The Wyatt Family had Cena surrounded. Harper and Rowan viciously tore into Cena whilst Bray laughed maniacally. Ziggler was unsure of what to do so but looked back up to his title and took the chance to climb in the ring and set up a ladder. He looked over to see Reigns still out and Cena in the process of being hit with Sister Abigail outside the ring. Ziggler climbed the ladder and retrieved the belt to retain his title.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

The show ended with Ziggler on top of the ladder with his title, slightly unsure of what just happened and watching The Wyatt’s slowly make their way back up the ramp with an unconscious looking John Cena left motionless on the floor.

Extremely close end to the contest but congratulations to Kijar. I believe the matches I said that were up for the grabs were the IC title and US title so when it comes close to Wrestlemania time I’ll be messaging you to see who you want the winners to be.

Thoughts on TLC

Quite like this PPV. Might not necessarily be the most enjoyable one to read but I imagine it would be one my favourite ones of the year to watch. Much higher scores this month so not many surprises. Perhaps the one that got people the most is Orton. Understand people wanting Cody/thinking he would be the best option but Orton has had a pretty uneventful year before Survivor Series so he deserves some time in the spotlight. Only other thing I want to mention is the Lawler/Paige win. I can understand people thinking it’s a really cheap way for Paige to lose it. On one hand that’s exactly why I did it, it’s a good way to get Jerry’s position of Diva GM some heat but to be honest the other reason was that I’ve already made some things like the title histories which will be posted soon and the way I made them would make it hard to change it. In that I put Eva winning the title off Paige (the original plan was for this to happen next RAW) so I wanted to write that in rather than have the histories and things like that wrong. But anyway hope you enjoyed the PPV. I was surprised quite how few votes Big Show got, didn't expect him to win it but still. One note I will make is that most the challenges to his belt I’ve sort of expected you to vote against, but some challenges soon might make for a much closer poll.

So this is the end of this starting year. Hopefully you all feel like you’ve had some contribution to the formation of things (This is a reminder of what exactly you have voted for. Admittedly, as of late this has been pretty much limited to the US title but that will change soon, especially the entire list of Wrestlemania winners being decided by prediction contests and polls. Thanks for everyone who has predicted/commented but a special mention to The_Lloyd, Michgcs, RKOwnage and Kijar who I believe have predicted in all 12 or perhaps 11 of the PPVs. They all have diaries which you should check out but as you are my most consistent readers this shout out is probably pointless. Anyway they can be found here. Lucky dip but you can always choose all 4.

The diary should probably kick off very soon but in the meanwhile here is a poll.

I've predicted every time for a number of reasons... 1). It's an AWESOME idea... (to write 1 year in 1 month, and then pick it up properly)... 2). I LOVE a poll... And I LOVE that as a reader, I have semi-written some of the diary! 3). I've always loved your diaries... and 4). in the words of Vladamir Koslov... "I LOVE DOUBLE DOUBLE E!!"

Thanks guys, the overall readership went down early on (first few poll always got over 40 people! Now I average at around 15-20). I think that was once the big polls ended and the year properly started but now I do seem to have a good amount of regular readers and that's what's important. Perhaps once the actual shows start some of the poll numbers will pick up as admittedly the presentation has been pretty dull up to now.

But yeah I am excited to get it started, interested to see what people think of the presentation once it begins as it's pretty different to what I normally do.
