1995: War of The Worlds

Recommended Posts

I just started fooling with this mod and realized in changing the pics to the pictures I use for all my real world games that both A Train and Matt Bloom are in the game. I just thought I'd post it here I'm not sure if you've moved on from the mod or if there are any more releases coming.

Make sure you aren't looking at D-Von Dudley; in the Clash of the Titans mod, D-Von is in as A-Train, his gimmick prior to joining ECW.

As Beejus said, the A-Train in the data is D-Von Dudley and just for equality, The Terminator that's in the data is Bubba, not Marcus Laurinaitis.

Seems like Beejus and Jaysin answered this one for me. :)

I am aware that my pre-ECW naming of Team 3D/The Dudleys is confusing to some, but given that they hadn't teamed up by that point yet, I'm not sure what else to do to keep it realistic.

Thanks for answering guys sorry about that I don't think I ever knew that they worked under those names. Of course with me liking the Dudleyz for a sum of a negative percentile I wouldn't. Either way sorry about that carry on creating awesome mods I can play until 3 AM

Turner Broadcasting=/=TBS

Time Warner wasn't created yet, so the media group that owns TNT, CNN, TBS, etc would be owned by Turner Broadcasting. WCW was never owned by a TV channel, they were owned by a media group which is in the game. The only way to do it in game is to make a Turner owned station in every region

I had to correct this once before, but the name of the media conglomerate prior to Time Warner was actually TBS, Inc.

WCW merchandise even had "property of TBS, Inc." on it.

Anyone have a save game file for this mod that they would want to share? Something 2-3 years down the road at least would be interesting. I will post my own later but I am currently only 6 months in so I want to get further to help mix things up a bit more and create a new challenge for someone to try out.

On my mod, Marty Jannetty is listed as "on hiatus". Pretty sure he had worked for Smokey Mountain for the better part of that year, and I know he was back in the WWF by September or October (since Goldust debuted against him).

Yeah, that's a mistake. It will be fixed for the next release.

Oh look, it's WoTW 1.08!

...I bet you guys thought I had abandoned the mod, eh? :p

It's mostly some bugfixes and tweaks based upon previous feedback and my own playtesting. It also includes some new agers, alter egos, chemistry notes, tag teams, workers, worker relationships, etc.

Download link is in the first post.

Thanks so much for the surprise update. I appreciate all of your hard work on these this and the 1994 mod. I can't tell you the number of games I have played as 1995 ECW. Anyway, I wanted to share a couple thoughts and get your feedback. First, whenever I look for wrestlers to sign, I typically start at the icon level in the specific area that I am looking for and go down from there. One name that always sticks out to me is T Rantula. He is at a 68% in tri-state. That seems very excessive, unless I am unaware of something. Also, I think that you may want to review some of the relationships. A few that I always add are Austin/Raven/DDP and Cornette/Eaton/Lane. Also, I think that some of the relationships would not have been present at the time of the start of the mod. Bill Goldberg & Shawn O'Haire, Chris Masters has 3 listed, CM Punk & Cliff Compton, Batsita & Buddy Lee Parker, all of Samoa Joe's, etc... To my knowledge, Cornette & McMahon didn't really have any tension until 97 or so. The other issue that I would like to bring up is the event sizes. According to the Hall of Immortals, workers receive points for headline a historic or legendary event. As the mod stands now, that inlcudes Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, Summerslam, and The Great American Bash. I would think that the only event, American anyway, that would qualify for that would be Wrestlemania, maybe Starrcade. I think TNA also had some events above normal. I think any events that any yet to debut events should be at "Normal." My last point, and this is probably just a personal preference, would be that teams that haven't formed yet should be left out. It seems odd to have DX teaming in 1995. I think that there would be a few exceptions, maybe brother teams or people that trained together. Anyway, thanks again for all of your hard work on both mods. I have definitely spent more time with these 2 than any other and all of my long-term games have been with either 94 0r 95. I look forward to hearing your feedback on my thoughts above.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the mods, YoungNoble. :)

I'll try to address all your issues.

One name that always sticks out to me is T Rantula. He is at a 68% in tri-state. That seems very excessive, unless I am unaware of something.

I did this to ensure that he could main event in the Tri State area, as he did. He was sort of the John Cena of Steel City Wrestling.

Also, I think that you may want to review some of the relationships. A few that I always add are Austin/Raven/DDP and Cornette/Eaton/Lane. Also, I think that some of the relationships would not have been present at the time of the start of the mod. I am not aware of any relation between Raven and DDP and Austin. Please, enlighten me! :)

I know Cornette was manager for Eaton and Lane for several years, but were they off-screen friends as well? If so, I'll happily add such relations.

As for the rest of the relationships you mention, my rule in regards to relationships for future workers is as such: if the relationships began prior to them entering wrestling, I'll add them. Goldberg and O'Haire, for example, both entered wrestling through the WCW Powerplant, where they met. Since they're guaranteed to do so ingame as well, I find it reasonable to add their relationship. Similarly, Batista dislikes Buddy Lee Parker because he refused and belittled him when trying to enter the Powerplant, prior to Batista actually entering wrestling.

To my knowledge, Cornette & McMahon didn't really have any tension until 97 or so.

Are you sure about that?

The other issue that I would like to bring up is the event sizes. According to the Hall of Immortals, workers receive points for headline a historic or legendary event. I'll have a look at this. I thought that only 'legendary' events counted for HoI. I see now that I was wrong. I think I'll make WrestleMania 'legendary', Starrcade and perhaps a couple of Japanese events 'historic'.

My last point, and this is probably just a personal preference, would be that teams that haven't formed yet should be left out. It seems odd to have DX teaming in 1995. I think that there would be a few exceptions, maybe brother teams or people that trained together.

This, I definately won't change. I know that it causes odd results every now and then, like DX or The Undertaker and Kane teaming up way too soon - but I'd rather have that than have all future teams be random AI-creations. Sorry.

Anyway, thanks again for all of your hard work on both mods. I have definitely spent more time with these 2 than any other and all of my long-term games have been with either 94 0r 95. I look forward to hearing your feedback on my thoughts above

That makes sense. I guess I am just unfamiliar with him.

I am not aware of any relation between Raven and DDP and Austin. Please, enlighten me! :)

They all traveled together during the early 1990s in WCW. Raven has discussed it on his shoot interviews. Also, the topic is brought up any time DDP or Raven have been on Austin's podcast. Austin was also very close with Kevin Nash and they seem to remain very close to this day based on recent interviews.

I know Cornette was manager for Eaton and Lane for several years, but were they off-screen friends as well? If so, I'll happily add such relations.

Yes, they were. Cornette goes into great detail in his Midnight Express scrapbook, as well as in several of his shoot interviews. He was also close with Ray Traylor.

Fair enough. I believed that there were also a few that wouldn't have existed until later. Owen/Jeff Jarrett and Bret/Foley stick out to me, but certainly no big deal. Also, I don't know if you plan on updating these mods further, but I noticed that Dave and Earl Hebner are missing a relationship. I am about 75% sure that they are related.

Are you sure about that?

Again, based on Cornette's shoots (I am a big fan, if you haven't noticed), most of his frustrations came around 1997 and mainly with Russo.

I'll have a look at this. I thought that only 'legendary' events counted for HoI. I see now that I was wrong. I think I'll make WrestleMania 'legendary', Starrcade and perhaps a couple of Japanese events 'historic'.

Sounds perfect. I would make Royal Rumble, Summerslam, and Survivor Series as "Above Average."

This, I definately won't change. I know that it causes odd results every now and then, like DX or The Undertaker and Kane teaming up way too soon - but I'd rather have that than have all future teams be random AI-creations. Sorry.

No need to be sorry. Like I said, this one was probably more personal preference than anything else. I certainly see why you would keep it this way

Thanks for your kind words and input! :)

No problem. Thanks again. Do you have any plans to move CoTT/WotW forward or backward and expand into another year?

That makes sense. I guess I am just unfamiliar with him.

He was big in that one promotion. Nowhere else though, which is why I only gave him high pop in that one area. Could I have made promotion-specific pop for him instead, I'd have done that.

They all traveled together during the early 1990s in WCW. Raven has discussed it on his shoot interviews. Also, the topic is brought up any time DDP or Raven have been on Austin's podcast. Dave and Earl Hebner is an obvious mistake. Oops!

You're probably right about those others as well, likely a bit too soon. But such relationships can often be a bit hard to place in a timeline.

Yeah, I'll go forward eventually. I have plans. Nothing earlier than 1994 though.

Thought I'd bring this wonderful mod back up to the first back with a little bump about my new save with the newest version of WotW.

Started up a game with WWF this time as in the past I would always run WCW and start the Monday Night Wars from that end. Laughed when a few days in I got an email from my shortlist about WCW offering Warrior a written deal, I didn't even mess around and offer him a 30k+ a month written deal to counter. They scooped him up and now the New Generation of the WWF will begin in the new year. Going to have Shawn and Bret at Mania in an Iron Man match as that is probably my favourite match of all time. My other goal is to attempt to keep Hall and Nash in the WWF and run with their Diesel and Razor gimmicks for as many years as possible until they get stale. On the bottom tier of my goals would be to get Owen Hart into the main event as a legit contender in the next few years again like he was against Bret in '94.

A funny note, Man Mountain Rock had an expiring deal in the first month so I decided to job him out a few times in dark matches and once on Superstars. He got upset, and then I got a news note not too long later that he had been caught in possession of soft drugs. I fired him and then got a note that the media had picked up on the story and was connecting the WWF to it in the media, etc, etc. Dipped in company prestige from A to B+ overnight, thanks Buffalo Peterson lmao. Looks like his little home video from RL came out to play in my save ;). I thought this was hilarious, especially as I'm playing as Vince in owner/booker; so have been being a dick to certain people and giving my post-match shows to the Clique.

I've also found it quite funny that within a month Kevin Sullivan had politic'd his way into Main Event feuds with Hogan in WCW and Jimmy Snuka in the CWA despite not being head-booker in either promotion. Interested to see if he ends up with a World title or something at some point.

Thought I would give this thread a bump back into the first page.

While I am here, one funny thing has happened in my local to global save. I set all the yet to open promotions to debut on random. CHIKARA has been opened up in early 1996 by Mike Quackenbush (who is incidentally a midcarder in my promotion) and the head booker is non other than Raven. CHIKARA running a crucifix angle? LOL. CHIKARA's roster has several of my talent. I am running TNA, with the product designed after the X-Division style. Been fun so far, I keep getting knocked back down from small to local. I might have to set a maximun size of local for a bit, build up pop, and then attempt to stay small. The regional battles have been tough, as I grew to small near the end of the month, so I would grow to small and then lose the battle. I'm about to pull the trigger and put my only belt (X-Division Title) on Rocky Maivia, with Daniels being my first and only champ.
