I wouldn't go for Hockey. OOTP do have that already, and even though its still a buggy mess, you'd have to compete with it.

I have not played it but from what I have heard about it, it is not very good and nowhere near as good as their OOTPB series. Granted it is only their first version but that also means that their customer base might not be there yet and so maybe a GDS game would have a good chance to compete in that market.

Now if you were to say a baseball game then yes I would advise against that because OOTPB is damn near perfect or at least I think it is.

TV and/or Movie mogul game (TV game would be fun since no one has jumped on this to the depth of the sports simulation usually does for games)

Horse Racing (Like others have stated, there is a market for combining the best of both worlds of games released already to make a great new competitive game.)

Soccer game (Because one company has a big jump on development) doesn't mean market couldn't support another game out there. This one game idea has the most potential of worldwide sales.

All three would need support and patience as they slowly develop to a strong product and features list. Some games just need the time to learn their way and sometimes today, people just aren't as patient as they used to be.

<p>I would be game for any of these games but I think something different could be awesome too. Here are some suggestions I could come up with off the top of my head. (But hey, if these do inspire anything I wanna special thanks <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />)</p><p> </p><p>

1) <strong>A Criminal Syndicate sim</strong></p><p>

<em>This would be really cool, it would work something like CBH but obviously different in a lot of ways too. You could start as just a genuine street thug and work your way up individually or in a gang. You could also make a text based "linear" story mode where your decisions throughout the game would influence what route your character would take. He might die in the end or might decide to leave the crime world. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Objective:</em></p><p><em>

To own as many territories as possible.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Features:</em></p><p><em>

1. Different Jobs including drug dealing, weapons dealer, fraud, robbery (heists), murder (rival gang), corrupt police officials, etc.</em></p><p><em>

2. Being able to interact with other gang members, like creating a plan to dethrone the current boss or interrogate a member about being a mole for the police.</em></p><p><em>

3. Personality impacts how people think and act in game (paranoid/calm, Ruthless/forgiving etc)</em></p><p><em>

(Other things could go in but these are the only ones in my head as of now)</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Stats: </em></p><p><em>

Shooting (Obvious, but better shots could be used as snipers while lower guys would have machine guns etc)</em></p><p><em>

Stealth (Obvious)</em></p><p><em>

Mind (How much the person knows the business, this would help in terms of creating heists, etc and being the kingpin in a gang)</em></p><p><em>

Driving (Essentially for getaway drivers if needed)</em></p><p><em>

Hacking (Opening locked doors, vaults, etc with passwords)</em></p><p><em>

Technology (This is how good a person can get things for a job, such as armour or explosives.)</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

</em><em><strong>2) Horse/ Greyhound Owner sim</strong></em></p><p><em>

This would essentially be you are a person who owns horses/dogs and races them to get money. You would then have to breed or buy more dogs. </em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Objectives</em></p><p><em>

Create the best dog/horse and win as much money as possible to gain a better reputation.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

Features</em></p><p><em>

Passion (the higher the passion the better the person's stats can improve)</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

</em><em><em>Animal</em></em></p><p><em>

Speed (obvious)</em></p><p><em>

Acceleration (obvious)</em></p><p><em>

Behavior (obvious)</em></p><p><em>

Passion (this impacts the animals will to increase it's stats and the more willing it is to challenge other dogs when things get up close and personal, this stat can not change throughout the life of the dog)</em></p><p><em>

<p>Some great ideas here! A few thoughts:</p><p> </p><p>

- Gang/Crime game DAVEFAN mentioned: I'll actually be producing something like this, but not for Grey Dog more than likely. As some of you here may know, i'm starting my own little company with the odd little off-genre games I like to make that may not fit in with GD's clientele that well, and this will be the first one. Since it was brought up, and if this interests you, feel free to visit here for screenies and update: <a href="http://simprosestudios.com/?q=node/98" rel="external nofollow">Streets of Chaos</a></p><p> </p><p>

- A Hockey sim is leading the pack voting wise, which is a bit of a surprise. Or perhaps it shouldn't be, given the issues of OOTP's entry. I happen to think EHM was the model to follow on this genre really, and the model FHM should have followed.</p><p> </p><p>

- A good detailed Horse Racing sim would be awesome, and something i've toyed with for awhile now.</p><p> </p><p>

- Running a TV network: Yeah, I believe I played something sorta like this way back, around 2003 or so, and it was cool, if buggy and limited by its developer's low budget. Done right, it could be awesome though, I agree.</p><p> </p><p>

- Running a Car Maker: Already being done, and pretty detailed, by these people: <a href="https://automationgame.com/" rel="external nofollow">https://automationgame.com/</a></p><p> </p><p>

- Football: I'm sure Arlie is working hard on Bowl Bound Pro as we speak. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Please keep voting everyone! I may use this poll as my next project idea for GDS.</p>

You would have to 100% nail it and I think it would be a project that would take a couple of years to get right. You would then be competing with FHM2 (which they have announced) which could hurt your sales.</p><p> </p><p> As for horseracing or dog racing.. Im not sure the following is there for it.</p><p> </p><p> DAVEFAN95's crime sim could be interesting if done right. It could be either modern era or prohibition gangsters</p>

Lots of strategies involved - I actually just got Pro Cycling Manager 2013 for dirt cheap on some sale and while that isn't something I would ever watch on TV (and no, doping is NOT an option in the game :p), the game itself is fairly in-depth and strategic.

I loved PCM back in the day. The fact that I spend several hundreds of hours over the course of almost a decade speaks for itself. In a vacuum, the game isn't all that good to begin with, but for a cycling fan like moi, it was awesome. I mostly played the management part as the first part of the races is boring as hell, but it's far from a shallow experience. Haven't touched the game in years, as there doesn't seem to be a lot of advancement from the management side of things. Only better graphics, which I don't give a crap about.

<p>Showtime is o.k. but it's not as good as it could be. I feel like the movie making sim thing could be done much better. </p><p> </p><p>

I'm interested in anything but horse racing to be honest. I'll keep my preachy thoughts to myself but I despise the very fabric of everything that is horse racing.</p>

It appears "Car Racing" is winning of the specific choices so far, which is a bit of a surprise, but then again, NASCAR is extremely popular, so it isn't too much of a shock. Would a good NASCAR style text sim (including hiring a driver/pit crew, equipping your car, dealing with accidents and part breakage, managing your budget, etc) be appealing to people here?

Soccer GM (Control team transactions, manage budget, etc):

I would love this, however the chances of ever being competitive here with the liked of FM coming out every year makes it almost impossible i think.

Hockey (NHL?) Sim/GM game (Same as above):

OOTP created their version just recently (as it is mentioned in this thread) and although it is not perfect, i expect their new version to be up to par. It wont be easy to compete with them i think.

Horse Racing (Manage stable, jockeys, etc):

Starters orders! http://www.startersorders.com/

You guys are way late for this. SO6 is out recently and frankly speaking it is awesome. It is not that well advertised, however it is very in depth.

Car Racing (Manage your cars, sponsors, etc).

So far car racing has just 22% of the voting, so it is not really winning the choices so far. Car racing is one of those which has never really had a proper game. I do not think this genre is a game which has massive potential though. Personally i would not like to see a game in this genre.

There have been a few suggestions here for a TV / Movie game. There are quite a few out there, but from what i see, non of them survive or do very well and i do not think it is because they are poorly made. Personally i would like to see a game in that genre if it can top Movie Mongul. You could even combine the TV / Movie / Music genre to create an Entertainment mongul game. Music Wars has a good foundation to start from.

About the crime game. There are so many of them out there i am kind of losing count. The all started to pop up around 7-8 years ago and there is a crap load. To be honest i have not really payed too much attention to what is going on there although i have played at times the various crime games and i would day that the genre is pretty full and well supported.

A "legitimate business" sim

I agree with this. Another idea in this genre is a business tycoon game in the light of Capitalism Plus 2. That game is over 10 years old and there has not really been anything to top it and although it is still pretty good, it is out of date for sure.

So if i was to draw some conclusion, a business game, Entertainment mogul game would probably be the best, however a Car racing game out of the choices posted would probably be best. For the car racing game though i simply do not see the potential in this game. There have been loads of these games out (i have 2 on my computer now). They are all very similar and pretty boring. You create a team, you buy car, fix car, get sponsors, hire drivers and update the car. Races for a text game are generic in general. Season end, new season. The entertainment / business game can expand into loads of directions though and can be really interesting.

I also like the script set up as it was easy to use.</p><p> </p><p> I think, what those of us who would like to see a GDS movie/entertainment mogul game, envision is a game which balances what HM does well with a game that actually feels alive. There is nothing in those games to make it feel like you are dealing with a live world.</p><p> </p><p> It's the opposite with TEW. If I say Big Smack Scott, we all can picture an actual character with his own personality. And with HM, even when you add RL actors and directors you just never get the sense that the actor you chose for a role is anything more than an avatar for the numbers behind it. You have a comedy movie, you just pick the highest rated comedy actor within your budget and move on.</p><p> </p><p> I would love to see some personality given to the actors/directors. I want train wrecks like Lindsey Lohan, Amanda Bynes, and Shia Lebouf getting arrested and losing public favor while you're filming their next movie. Or Terrance Malick popping up every few years with a script and causing a bidding war for the rights to distribute his next film. </p><p> </p><p> I would also like for the characters to develop relationships that affect casting and/or production. You have Seth Rogen signed for a big budget comedy; perhaps his friendship with James Franco helps you land Franco at a discount for a small supporting role. Or maybe the bad experience with a director leads to an actor never wanting to work with them again ala Kevin Smith/Bruce Willis. Nothing like this happens in HM.</p><p> </p><p> I would also like the characters to have more robust ratings. I don't want a rating telling me how good a director is at finishing a shoot on time. I want multiple factors going into it. A) does the director like to shoot 50 takes B) does the director like to re-write scenes/dialogue while shooting. Basically, am I dealing with Stanley Kubrik here? How organized is the director? Are they like Speilberg; do they pre-vis their work and animate scenes so they know exactly how they want to shoot it? </p><p> </p><p> Did the 20 something yo party girl I hired OD in the middle of shooting and now I have to recast or get creative with the rest of shooting? Did I foolishly hire Terry Gilliam and now his set burnt to the ground and has to be rebuilt?</p><p> </p><p> That's what I want affecting the timeliness of shooting and whether things go over budget, not a rating. These types of things add a sense that the world is moving and alive. And HM doesn't have that. I never tried Showtime because honestly it's just looked like a Flashy HM to me. </p><p> </p><p> Anyway, that's just some of what I would like to see from a movie/entertainment mogul type game that I just havn't seen done before. I could go on for a while, but already approching tl/dr territory lol</p>

Halle Berry's Oscar win for Monster's Ball put her way, way up... then Catwoman dragged her down. Momentum stalled. It's what TEW does well. Stars rise. Stars fall. Whenever I play Hollywood Mogul, I try to 'make' guys. I'll take a Ryan Reynolds and try to put him in as many movies as I can... but it's not a good as TEW at it.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> This..!</p><p> </p><p> IF (and that's a big if) Derek makes a game like this, this should be his mantra. Make it about the people first and films second. Games like Hollywood Mogul just count people as a number that works out how good a film is and I think that's backwards. Have the people fully fleshed out and use the films to influence them</p>
