How reputable is this site? Just stumbled on it while looking for info on my favorite young lion Kitamura. I miss the big guy

The rumors were steroid/drug use (reported by fans), Yakuza involvement, concussion (reported by Kevin Kelly) and then a car accident that crushed his leg. Everyone at New Japan are being secretive about it so it's impossible to sort fact from fiction.

Super annoyed Sabre is teaming with Taichi and Suzuki is teaming ith Iizuka. Would have much rather have had Minoru and Zack teaming up.

This can also help both Zack Saber Jr. & Minoru Suzuki as neither of them taking the pin won't kill their momentum.

Plus won't they have a match against each other during the tourney? I'm not entirely sure how that'll work this year with the teams not being split into blocks. But yeah, even a tease of Suzuki vs. Sabre would be all kinds of fun. Personally I don't want Minoru and Zack teaming together in WTL unless they're going to win it, or at least go to the finals.

There are a lot of teams in there clearly just to pad thing out... Suzuki Gun teams seems excessive too, and not having Hangman Page teaming with Chase Owens seems like some kind of oversight. I know both are touring guys and that it makes sense to use Yujiro as a home talent, but at least the Virginia Boys actually make sense as a team.

I'm sure the booking will make things work, but it seems to be between 4 teams (is it 2 blocks?) with a chance to win. LIJ, GoD, KES and Chaos. Though FinJuice would be nice to see do well, and I'm sure Elgin/Cobb will be a beast of a team too.

Surprised to see Makabe teaming with Henare instead of Honma... I guess they aren't rushing him with a major tournament yet, but I expected them to be in this as past winners.

World Tag League booking was the absolute dirt worst. I trust that New Japan will get a free pass because fans and journalists are still wearing their rose-tinted spectacles and all but the final was a repeat of last year's and now none of it even matters because they're running a three-way tag title match at Wrestle Kingdom, perhaps to avoid running the World Tag League final again on the big show.

Was the wrestling at least good? I skip this tournament every year because of rubbish booking like this. If they wanted me to take it seriously, how about running a fresh final match that actually means something for at least four weeks? At least make it important until Wrestle Kingdom! It's a lot of investment for no return because nobody is going to give two hoots about the winners of this goddamn thing even tomorrow now.

Edit: They really are the worst promotion when it comes to stuff like this. Sho and Yoh won the Super Jr. Tag League for a shot at the IWGP Jr Tag titles and that's also a three-way for some inexplicable reason. So what have they actually won and what was the point in running a tournament? I suppose it's part of New Japan's "westernisation", nothing can make any sense or have any practical purpose anymore because they're taking the very worst elements of WWE and tossing them into the mixing pot instead of the storytelling that makes WWE's good side shine so brightly on occasion.

So, aside from the farce that was the tag league (the young bucks will be in the tag match at WK every year til they retire, anyway), how are we feeling about the WK card. I'm a relatively new fan to the product but have invested some time into it and am hyped. Card looks great. Could do with Minoru Suzuki on it, but still. Also, Ibushi and Ospreay could be a show stealer.

I think it's the card that people wanted.

The main event is fascinating to me. Omega's deal reportedly expires in late January but I'd be stunned if he left the company and dropped the belt considering it feels like he's just getting started as champion. But this is Wrestle Kingdom and he is facing Tanahashi, who I expect to win here because New Japan has new management and they reportedly see Tanahashi as their biggest and most marketable star. Both results have big implications.

I also have to give them credit for the roster they've managed to build over the last four to five years. It wasn't that long ago that they were running Togi Makabe vs Bad Luck Fale in a featured match at Wrestle Kingdom and yet it's unimaginable now that such a match would ever make this card.

I completely skipped the tag league aside from watching the final night. That tournament is a slog to get through. They should remove the tag title at WK aspect from it, because having EVIL and SANADA go through that whole thing only for it to be turned into a three way is just a gigantic waste of time.

I guess it's still not as bad as a couple of years ago when Yano and Ishii randomly got thrown into the title match because Yano stole the belts. At least the Bucks were former champions that never got their rematch, as they cited in their promo. That's better than the jr tag thing too, where Shingo and Bushi are getting thrown in because NJPW, like WWE, feels like they HAVE to get everyone on WK.

If you haven't done so already, go check out the Voices of Wrestling NJPW 2018 Year in Review. Finally started reading it last night and the essay about the Best Friends during the Tag League made me want to book some puro in TEW. It's pay what you want meaning it can be free, but the money paid goes to compensate the the various authors. It's over 1000 pages long.

The breakdown of Tag League and Jr Tag League booking and what it says about how they may be pushed in the future is good stuff as well.

Not really because it's Mania weekend and they would eventually fill it, but it wouldn't have sold out as quickly as it did.

Honestly look for NJPW to ramp up the joint shows with ROH, both companies really do need each other right now, with AEW soon to be an actual threat before the end of the year is out, ROH and NJPW can't afford not to have one another.
