Diary Preview And Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

As my health has gotten better, I've been kicking around doing a diary centered on RMW -- booking essentially MAW of the Northwest, but from the ground up, having to start at local and do initial hirings/firings and all of that. In this particularly diary, I would be focusing on the narrative aspects and less on writing match results -- those tend to be the most taxing for me to write -- but if I write shorter results [i've seen a lot of people who just essentially write the road agent report on the match] I think I could make the diary happen with some regularity and maintain it.

Use my diary as a template. :p

Here's a preview of the first show for my DIW diary. Still long ways to go, but I'm proud of it so far:

<details><summary>1. Re-Introduction</summary>

osvcVcL.png

As told by Josh Rosenberg

I've always found Deep Impact Wrestling to be one of the most captivating subjects I've ever documented. It's brutal, bloody, and unashamedly authentic. For one, the promotion refuses to appease out-of-touch TV executives and casual wrestling fans, even if that adversely affects its bottom line. And it definitely doesn't compromise when it comes its unwillingness to collaborate with Australia's two largest wrestling companies, Revolution Australian Wrestling and Australian Pro Wrestling.

So where do we go from here? I'm not sure. The dissonance from Deep Impact's product and that of smiling, white-meat superstars such as Sam Strong and Rocky Golden provide a prolific juxtapositional answer to the question "what is professional wrestling?". I guess what I want to get out of a second installment of
Why We Fight
is derived from my job as a documentary filmmaker. We tell stories about things of this world that are not perfect, and Deep Impact Wrestling is far from that.

</details>

<details><summary>2. On-Boarding</summary>

With Deep Impact Wrestling: Bloodsport approaching, several new signings have very little time to acclimate themselves to the promotion. For
King Malietoa
, DIW provides a massive opportunity for him, and his tag-team partner,
The Brisbane Devil
.

226fMkU.png?1qE99WmL.png?1

For the past half decade, the duo, known as Samoan Demolition, has been acclaimed as the best independent tag-team in Queensland. Highly in demand, the two Polynesian brawlers have traveled many a road-trip across the Commonwealth in order to wrestle a 10-minute match. Catching the eye of "Big Jim" Teasdale, Samoan Demolition received their first big break to kick off 2016. They know what's at stake for their first match; a good showing is the difference between a steady, part-time gig in Queensland and a return to the cut-throat, freelance circuit of Australian independent wrestling.

CRf6ZJJ.png?2

Edward "Charger" Siaki

SWF Wrestler/King Malietoa's brother

"A lot of independent guys pick up pro wrestling as a side-gig; Jimmy Hernandez was acting in commercials and Mikey Lau was teaching kick-boxing at a local dojo before either made it to SWF. Not my brother. Since day one, he's been committed to this pro wrestling dream. Honestly, I owe him my entire career. The little money he earned the past seven years, he sent back home to Samoa. He used that cash to help me pay my way through wrestling school, and land me a spot at Supreme University. While I was learning how to take bumps, and run the ropes in Honolulu, he was sleeping in his car, wrestling in bingo halls to scrape by, and still finding a way to send money home to my parents and me."

Luckily for Samoan Demolition, this isn't their first rodeo. While the crowd of a few hundred fans will be the biggest crowd they have ever performed for, the two have the privilege of knowing what to expect from a live audience. However, the same can't be said for their fellow debutee,
Tyrant
.

xdXPABQ.png?1

Just a year ago, Tyrant was in a different kind of fight. In fact, in two weeks, it's going to be his first time ever in a wrestling ring. A former sergeant for the Australian Defense Force, Tyrant spent most of his late teens and early 20's deployed overseas. Only two years into deployment, he lost his eye, after his unit and allied Afghan troops were ambushed by Taliban forces. There's no doubt that he's one tough bastard, but the ring has taken its fair share of bad asses.

eMSSF9Q.png?1

Tyrant

Current DIW Wrestler

"I'm not the first veteran to try to use pro wrestling to re-adjust to everyday life, and I don't think will be the last one. There's something that changes a man after he goes to war...it's like he realizes he's good at one thing, and only one thing: fighting. Whether its in the "Sandbox" or in a wrestling ring, violence seems like the only thing I can do...and it scares the sh** out of me."

While Samoan Demolition and Tyrant are trying to take advantage of a fresh start, there are some in DIW that see the writing on the wall with the company's new arrivals. For
Cesar Sionis
, the possibility of losing his job is a frightening reality.

4Zl4wP8.png?1

The last time
Why We Fight
featured Sionis, "The Greek Punisher" was an independent wrestler that "Big Jim" Teasdale had been scouting in Melbourne. As some of our viewers may remember, the wild haired brawler was one of the biggest names on the independent scene, but also boasted a reputation for being a difficult personality to work with.

On the surface, Sionis seems to be safe from DIW's round of cuts. Currently, he's holding the tag-team titles with Gyula Lakatos. But after several run-ins with Teasdale and The Comedian, Cesar seems to be on the hot-seat.

Sionis's situation is a stark reminder that professional wrestling often relies on its real life actors as it does on its characters. Repeat offenders like Cesar Sionis often cause major shifts in booking. His tag-team partner, the youngster Lakatos, may lose his promising push solely on the fact that Sionis can't control his anger.

</details>

<details><summary>3. Catching Up</summary>

The fight against RAW and APW hasn't gotten easier.
The Comedian
has several new shades of grey on his beard, likely from the continuous financial insecurity that DIW faces.

unk5EzF.png?1

Now 40 years old, he faces the dreaded, inconvenient truth that retirement may not be far. Beaten down and bruised, The Comedian continues to white-knuckle through each brutal tables or light-tube match, putting on taxing performances despite his declining physical health.

Seeing his friends and contemporaries, most notably Mayhem Mulhoney and Menace to Sobriety, decline from psychopathic bad asses to out-of-shape, broken down husks, DIW's owner knows that the revolution that he helped start, might not see him finish it.

i0SmW0C.jpg?2

Menace to Sobriety

Former DIW Wrestler

"Before I left DIW, I told [The Comedian]...'they're not always going to need The Comedian, the wrestler. One day, they're going to need The Comedian, the leader.' It's a bitter pill to swallow, that one day, you'll wake up, and your back fails you, and your knees fail you, and your brain is too f**ked up to even think. But after a while, you learn to live with it. And unlike me, The Comedian has a special talent outside the ring: he's a born-leader. The man can convince you to run through a wall for him, he has that sort of effect on people. This whole DIW project, it would have never been what it is without The Comedian, the leader."

The last time
Why We Fight
highlighted
Revolution Australian Wrestling
, it had been one of the fastest growing wrestling companies in the world.

bI6wurw.png?1

Today, DIW's rival has grown exponentially into a major, national show. While it features some of DIW's lewd, crude themes, it's very much the anti-thesis of The Comedian's company: it's nearly non-existent wrestling and often adherence to wholesome, clean cut good guys seem to indicate a heavy-influence from American entertainment wrestling.

It's not hard to see why RAW is so far ahead of DIW today. The show plays like a soap-opera, with cinematic scenes, and melodramatic storylines. While DIW's counter-culture narratives seems to repel any potential sponsors, RAW seems to embrace them.

hRQlyNb.png?2

Rahmel Goode

RAW Wrestler/Former bodyguard of Australian Prime Minister

"I think RAW is so popular because it's bigger than life. Growing up, kids want to be superheroes, and we provide them these big, muscular, indestructible heroes. And as adults, we see these characters in more mature, humanizing situations, and we fall in love with them all over again. I'll be honest, I'm a big fan of what DIW does...I think the more wrestling there is for Australia, the better."

Before RAW, The Comedian's main objective for DIW was to taken
Australian Pro Wrestling
, an Australian "super promotion" seeking to sign away all the major regional talent. While RAW's mainstream dominance has stifled such an ambitious endeavor, APW still remains one of DIW's most heated adversaries.

ZkzNNd0.png?1

Unlike RAW, who seemingly looks down on any DIW talent, APW is notorious for poaching established Deep Impact talent, most recently, tag-team The Apocalypse. Prior to that, APW had swayed former DIW Champion Scottie Hamstead to defect. With much deeper pockets, APW seems to have a major upper-hand when it comes to bidding on Australia's limited wrestling market.

FEKdQ4Z.png?2

Warmonger

Former DIW Wrestler

"Leaving Deep Impact Wrestling was the hardest decision of my life. I love The Comedian like my brother, and I believe the sh** outta DIW's message of 'sticking it to the man'. At the time, I was ready to tell [James J.] McMinister and [sean] Quartermainne to go f*** themselves. But after talking to Hatemonger, something changed in me...something died in me. The contract offer gave me everything I needed: a stable career, a steady schedule and a consistent paycheck. I was turning 30. I was a father of two, with no steady job. I didn't know when my next paycheck was, and even when I did, it wasn't enough to raise two baby boys in today's world...so I did it. I goddamn did it. I signed with APW...I signed...with the man."

Basically the plan is to compile all 6 shows that I will be writing + all the documentary content surrounding the shows, compile them into 6 "Netflix" type episodes, and post them all at once, using the Create-A-Thread as the table of contents. Basically wanted to drop a preview because I have a lot to work on still for the project.</p>

From the minds that brought you: GSW: Guess who's back, back again, Black Canvas Grappling: The Defenders of Puroresu, Lone Star Wrestling, Titan Factory Wrestling: The Dread Army, and The Climb comes the story of the Global Wrestling Council.

The Global Wrestling Council: It's wrestling, not entertainment. We are not a soap opera. We are not sports entertainment, we are not acting and not dancing. We wrestle and we are wrestling -- we are the Global Wrestling Council.

Coming soon, to a TEW Dynasty board near you.

Joint diaries are always interesting. Had fun during the one I was apart of (as short as that lasted).

<p>I currently use Survey Monkey, and find it useful for feedback purposes. I have seen google forms used for surveys more commonly. Could anybody who has used either or both tell me the benefits and drawbacks of either choice?</p><p> </p><p>

I am happy with Survey Monkey, but interested to know if one is considered more acessable, user friendly or just generally better. GWC is pleased to announce the fourth and final member to join our alliance!

jW21pMp.jpg

Outback Fight League is set to become the premier wrestling company in the great land down under, Australia. If hard-hitting, ground and pound, tough as nails fighters is something you want to see then be sure to come to see what real Australian wrestling is all about!

So I will be leading OFL from Australia and am excited to try to this region out, as I rarely play them. While I am still a novice at learning the best way to run a dynasty I'm happy to try something different from my Lonestar Wrestling dynasty. Which I am most definitely going to keep running. I am excited to be joined by three awesome dynasty writers in this venture!
