Test and let me know what needs work.

Hi all,

I'm taking on updating the awesome Death of the Territories mod which starts in January 1983. Can you follow real history and dominate as the WWF or can you stop McMahon by signing the big names before he can?

I'm currently updating bios and images, while making sure that the stats are included in line with the new TEW release. Once that's done, I'll be testing the data over a 10-year period to make sure that Bushwhacker Luke doesn't become a multi-time world champion (happened when testing my 1993 mod back in the day).

If I could ask for some help, what I would need most is decent images using this background:

I am covering WWF, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-South and AWA. If anyone would be interested in sorting out wrestler images for those in other promotions, let me know in here and I'll give you a list of wrestlers we need images for.

If anyone would like to help with testing, or title images on a classy, low-key background or decent company logos or anything really, please let me know.

Throw me the test data when you've cleaned it up and I'll get some UK additions in there. 83 is a good time for the UK, with Joint having TV, All Star building momentum and Orig just starting his Reslo TV show on S4C.

I have pics for many additions, but just not on any sort of background. More a mixture of various sources.

I think I'll stick with the background' images, mainly because I find it therapeutic to find out photos. Thank you very much for the offer.

Organic bios are going to save me time with future workers too as I'll just use them for anyone who debuts after the game starts.

I'd be happy to help out with grunt work, like statistics, chemistry and that sort of thing.

The biggest problem with a lot of mods is when the maker has overlooked chemistry for certain tag teams or wrestler/manager combinations, and you get hit with absurd stuff like Bobby Eaton not "clicking" with Dennis Condrey or Ricky Steamboat having awful chemistry with Ric Flair.

Also, are you going to make sure Rick Martel has a better face rating than heel rating? I'm playing a 1985 mod, at the moment, and I find it bizarre that the maker gave him an 81 for face and a 91 for heel, meaning he defaults to heel in contract negotiations.

That shouldn't be happening for Martel, when his only notable heel run was on the late eighties and early nineties WWF mid-card. I don't know how that overrules his work as a popular babyface in Portland and the AWA.

Okay, I'm ranting now, I'll stop.

The reason I rated Rick Martel higher as a heel than a face is because from having watched a good chunk of his matches and interviews, he came across a lot better as a heel than as a face. You could tell he was a lot more comfortable in that role, whereas his face interviews for the most part were a bit on the sheepish side, if that makes sense. Not to say he wasn't a good face because he was. 80 is still a very good rating for babyface performance.

I know what you mean on chemistries. If you recall, in my 1985 mod, I made sure to add chemistry notes for the Midnight Express, Flair vs. Steamboat, Steamboat vs. Savage, etc. I'm open to adding more. Heck, I make an alternate database of mods for personal use (not released to the general public) that have bloated chemistries. Just ask Beejus! :D I can't speak for other mod makers, but I think the reason there have been very few chemistry notes was to try and not bloat the databases.

All that said, I'm very open to making adjustments and coming to compromises for things such as babyface/heel performance, as well as chemistries. Maybe something like the same face/heel performance number for guys like Martel, who started off as faces and had very good face runs for quite some time, then really broke out when they turned heel. I may also consider adding more chemistry notes, but I'm going to have to consider a number limit that I can discuss with other players. Anywho, Scarlet-Left, thank you very much for the feedback. It's what helps stay motivated to improve my mods. :)

YES.

I'll Pm you when I get home and ping you the database as it stands and a list. Chemistries has to be the focus. :)

I can accept that line of reasoning, though I disagree, since it's very subjective. I think what through me off, was that I was hiring him in 1985, and, since he was rated higher as a heel, the contract conclusion defaulted to heel.

It was as if the game was telling me that I ought to bring him in as a heel, since I usually stick with the default, and, in 1985, I don't think that's a discussion the road agents would be having.

"So, this popular face champion, we're bringing him in as a heel, right?"

"What are you talking about?!"

I imagine it must be a pain to get through, and would certainly bloat the roster but, since it's not editable in-game, it can be really crushing to get a week or so into a save, hiring and firing, setting up feuds and so on, to then get a note from Bobby Eaton saying he'd be better off without Cornette as his manager, or Nikita Koloff not "clicking" with Ricky Steamboat.

All that said, I'm very open to making adjustments and coming to compromises for things such as babyface/heel performance, as well as chemistries. Maybe something like the same face/heel performance number for guys like Martel, who started off as faces and had very good face runs for quite some time, then really broke out when they turned heel.

I'm torn on this, and don't necessarily think you should change things on my account. Ultimately, it's based on opinion, and, say, Ric Flair as one of the greatest of all time is less controversial than El Gigante as an underrated big guy with tonnes of potential, neither one is truly more or less valid than the other.

When it comes to making mods, then, there are two approaches; to rate people however you want to rate them, or rate them according to some semblance of consensus. So, I can sympathise with you wanting to rate Martel highly as a heel, since you genuinely believe his heel work was better.

If I were making a mod, for instance, I'm damn sure I'd have Buddy Landel rate very highly since I consider him to be a very underrated worker and, at a certain point in his career, world champion material.

I may also consider adding more chemistry notes, but I'm going to have to consider a number limit that I can discuss with other players.

This veers into suggestion territory, but it'd be great if Adam could include a feature that barred the game from generating negative chemistry for any tag team set in the database, and for any clients of managers set in the database.

Quick update:

Photos are done for WWF, AWA, WCCW, MSW and WCCW. Next I'm going to switch focus to the huge number of wrestlers set to debut over the years. I'm going to cutdown a lot for the sake of database integrity and then get to work on the free agents.

I've had a quick test through and almost every promotion loses its TV slot on the 1st day. So the broadcasters is going to need a huge overhaul I think.

For the lose of tv contracts is because all of the contracts are set to expire.

Playing around with a converted version from 2013 and minus the new traits that have to be added/tweaked, a lot of it looks fairly good, so hopefully this is not going to be a major redo (because selfishly I can't wait to play it) :)

One of the few things that really jumped our is it seems some workers converted a bit too high in microphone/acting skills.

Example, Terry Gordy, while a great wrestler, was certainly not even close to as skilled on the mic as Michael Hayes, but at #2 in WCCW while Hayes was 5th. Even bigger, Kerry Von Erich was over 80 and he was horrible on the mic and The Great Kabuki was a 65 (C+) and he never even spoke.

I think tracking down things like this will cause most of the headaches, but also things we can fix easy enough as we find them.

Wish I had more free time to assist, but I am limited until we conclude spring Football practice and I get through a month of audits in my 'day job' If help is still needed in June, I would be happy to jump on board though.

Just noticed this, quick fix for the TV slots is to change deal length from 3 months to 1 year. Setting In Min Regions to 1 if they're at 0 will also eliminate a lot of silly TV deals.
