Storm Spillane v. Fernandes Franklin

Spillane looks as though he is suffering from an injury in his chest as the match progresses, which appears to limit some of his offense. This gives Franklin more of an opportunity to take it to Spillane than he might otherwise have expected, especially since Spillane also seems to have one eye on the approaches in case of an appearance by Franklin's tag partner Lance Trueman. Trueman doesn't appear though, and although that still leaves Spillane with his work cut out for the victory, he does eventually pull it out – a lengthy sequence that moves from working Franklin's arm into Spillane's favoured Boston Crab ends with Franklin having to tap once it is fully locked in and Spillane gets the full torque applied in the kneeling position.

Winner: Storm Spillane (D)

TS3qrrl.jpg

With Spillane focused and relieved at the victory, this is the time that Trueman picks to strike, sliding into the ring and attacking Spillane from behind with a low-blow and then encouraging his tag partner to join in the beat-down. If Spillane wasn't injured before this, he probably is now! (E+)

Wild Cats (El Jaguar/Tigre) (c ) v. Rich and Famous (Jackpot Jordan/Jake Idol)

The crowd aren't really into this match, for some reason, and it isn't clear why, since it's a decent contest. However, we'll never know what might have been in this case, as it certainly didn't reach a natural conclusion. Idol and Jackpot controlled the early going, with Idol in particular using his size and strength to control the smaller men on the ground where they posed the least threat. But at about nine minutes in, Idol rolls from the ring for no apparent reason, and leaves Jordan to it. The medical staff are down to see what the problem is fairly sharp-ish.

Jordan certainly does his best without a partner though. Three times he has Tigre pinned and gets a long two count from Pee-wee Germaine, leading to an extended argument about the speed of the count the referee applied. It comes to a head once again a few minutes later. Jordan has landed a huge side-slam on Jaguar and followed it up with a leg-drop, and again only gets two from it. This is the last straw for him, and he loses it completely, yelling at Germaine and pushing him about the ring. Eventually, Germaine has had enough and calls for the DQ, enraging Jordan even further, whilst the referee and the tag champs vacate the area before they get involved as collateral damage, as Jordan spends a good five minutes kicking and smashing things around at ringside.

Winners: Wild Cats (by DQ) (D+)

Fox Mask v. Dave Wallace

Two men whose gimmicks aren't really very well received by the crowd, but they are able to rise above that to put on a decent match, even if it is one that has little personal heat involved with it. Fox Mask displays his wide array of aerial moves, such as a flying cross-body, a selection of planchas and a corkscrew moonsault, and Wallace sells them as well as he ever does. Wallace doesn't lack for his own attacks, both ground-based and aerial, as well as the odd bit of brawling, but he never gives the impression he expects to finish things, and when the end does come it is the Fox Hunter that keeps Wallace down for the full count.

Winner: Fox Mask (D+)

Al Coleman is next out to the ring, and he calls out his former manager, Willow, demanding to know who her new client is that she has booked him against this evening.

vQHAdaq.jpg

Willow initially comes out on her own, telling Coleman that until him, her client appreciates what a good manager can do for a wrestler's career. After all, he has a “supreme” calibre, and has been a champion in other organisations and she expects him to be a champion here as well under her guidance.

New music hits, and out from behind the curtain comes...

Greg Black! (D)

OKvFwS8.jpg

M31wwgr.jpgSFoA0Jd.png?1IPxb04q.jpgvQHAdaq.jpg

Al Coleman v. Greg Black w/ Willow

Coleman is a little taken aback by the identity of his opponent, and Black gives him very little time to recover, launching into a Spear as soon as the bell sounds to start the match. Coleman kicks out at two but he is visibly shaken already. This sets the tone for much of the bout – Black methodically and ruthlessly dissects Coleman, with only a few hope spots. The two men don't seem to gel very well in the ring, and it makes for something of a messy affair; Coleman's recovery and sole period of dominance looks a little forced, despite their efforts.

Eventually the onslaught tires Coleman out. He goes for one last big move – looking like he is going for a top rope splash on a temporarily downed Black, but he is distracted by Willow hopping up onto the apron. There's no contact, and the referee decides not to intervene, but the delay gives Black time to pop up to the top rope as well and hit a big Superplex that drives the wind out of Coleman and he's able to get the three count as a result.

Winner: Greg Black (D+)

#1 Contendership 4-way bout

Lance Trueman v. Jimmy Marvel v. Super Ninja v. Matt Sparrow

Four very equally matched combatants, all eager to get a title chance that they perhaps would not have expected given others towards the top of the card. Two long-standing veterans in Ninja and Sparrow and two great prospects in Trueman and Marvel.

As with many of these types of matches, the action is fast and furious and often multiple things are going on at once. Marvel and Trueman do tend to spend much of the time facing one another, perhaps unsurprisingly given Trueman's recent obsession with Marvel's tag partner, and after one lengthy assault Marvel is left down and out at the side of the ring for a time. Matt Sparrow, in particular, seems to be revelling in the opportunity, and you can almost sense him pulling an extra level of performance out from somewhere that he had never previously displayed. And yet Sparrow is still probably the weakest performer out of the four, even if only slightly.

The finale sees a recovering Jimmy Marvel and Sparrow brawling in one of the corners, with Trueman and Ninja in the opposite one. Marvel hits a variation on a running bulldog and goes to cover, but is pulled off by Trueman, who desperately breaks away from Ninja to make the effort. The two trade blows, but are caught off guard by Ninja sending both of them over the top rope with a double clothesline. Ninja is then free to hit his Ninja Strike on Sparrow, and whilst Marvel and Trueman fight to get back into the ring the pinfall gets counted in full.

Winner: Super Ninja (D+)

We're backstage and once again the camera has caught up with Coastal Zone Champion Champagne Lover.

“Ahhh. Apparently my challenger has deigned to show his face. That is good. It means that the greatest wrestler in the world will get to show off his abilities against a … somewhat … worthy opponent, though I use the term with a little hesitation, you understand?

“Because of course it will not matter whether my opponent is Frankie Perez, or Jonnie Perez, or even Sergio Perez or Pat Perez. The outcome is the same – Champagne Lover comes away with the victory, after showing all the fans once more why it is he that they have come to see. And they leave with only the wish to return and see him vanquish yet another, worthy or unworthy, it matters not.

“To the greatest wrestler in the world, it is just another step on the road to glory and triumph in America, just as he has achieved triumph and glory in Mexico, carrying all before him, on the screen and in the ring. How you all must wish to be as talented as Champagne Lover. But alas, you cannot be. There is, after all, only one me.” ©

Champagne Lover © v. Frankie Perez

Perez looks fired up by Lover's self-promotion, and takes it to the champion pretty hard in the opening minutes, forcing Lover backwards and out of the ring, where the bout continues as something of a brawl for several minutes.

There are times when Perez's intensity makes Lover look a little inadequate, but the champ fights back gamely, and slowly works his way into control of things. Sensing that his advantage would probably be to keep things in the ring, Lover makes a break under the ropes once he is given the opportunity, and takes the age old benefit of being able to stomp his opponent as he tries to re-enter the ring second.

There's a decent reaction to this encounter from the fans, who finally seem to be getting into the show, even if it has taken until the main event for them to find their voices and get behind the wrestlers.

For all Lover's boasts about being the greatest wrestler in the world, Perez comes close to matching him, but without ever having those final little edges of flair and panache that make Lover so eye-catching. Perez works hard to keep Lover grounded, and displays an astonishing array of kicks that make you wince just to watch, but Lover's all-around game just has that little bit more authority about it the rest of the time.

It is a close enough affair though that the champion has to resort to cheating to pick up the victory. Pee-wee Germaine doesn't catch Lover slipping a pair of brass knuckles on, and when the strike lands – a wicked uppercut to the jaw – Lover covers it up nicely with a sweet transition into the Lover stunner, and Perez isn't going to beat a ten-count, let alone the three.

Winner: Champagne Lover ©

Lover is quick to celebrate with the crowd whilst the medics attend to Perez, and Germaine looks perplexed as to why the challenger was still on the canvas for so long.

Nice show; sorry I missed predicting it. Glad to see Ninja winning. He should be able to put on a strong match with Lover. Surprising that Greg Black was still available--guess USPW must have been satisfied enough with Cougar and Donnie to leave him alone for now. He should be a great addition to CZCW.

<p><strong>Tuesday 2nd February 2016</strong></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="UTmpDDF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UTmpDDF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

It has been altogether a more trying first month than I would have wanted.</p><p> </p><p>

I have looked at some of the promotions around the world in the past and wondered what made the owners and bookers select some of their champions. Why they would award the titles to workers who were less than the best in their company, or more frequently, to themselves or to their relatives or closest friends, but the last few weeks have made it much clearer, since it is a position I have found myself in already, in just such a short space of time.</p><p> </p><p>

The reason is, of course, trust.</p><p> </p><p>

When Richard Eisen lets his son have a run with the SWF World Title, yes perhaps a part of it is vanity, or self-delusion that Eric is the best person to carry that title. But another part of it is that he can trust his family to be loyal to SWF and to his own vision for the company. In TCW, Tommy Cornell spent much of his ownership years as the TCW champion. Again, there is cause to say that yes he was the best wrestler on the roster, he deserved being the champion. Again, maybe part of it was vanity. But much of it was that he knew the quality of matches he could have – with almost anyone – and that it was a risk to let someone else be the standard bearer for the company he owned.</p><p> </p><p>

And so we come to CZCW. In truth, perhaps I should have expected to come across this problem. With Donnie Johnson leaving us for the big bucks of USPW, we were always going to be left with a hole that needed to be filled. The initial plan was for Frankie Perez to take the title from him, in a re-match from Revolution, and which we thought would be a good match and a suitable way of transitioning the title. But like several of our workers, Frankie has other commitments. In particular, he has a standing commitment to WLW in Japan, which has just made life very difficult for us, because WLW do their tapings for their weekly show LuchaResu on a Friday, the same day that we run our weekly show.</p><p> </p><p>

There is a potential solution to this – ask Frankie to sign an Exclusive deal with us. But it has risks. He might not be happy to do so. Alternatively, WLW might up their offer to him and look for an Exclusive signing to them, in which case we could lose him entirely. Something to think about over coming weeks, because if Frankie can't make the weekly show it becomes difficult to promote him as Coastal Zone Champion for any length of time. If Frankie is going to be a major part of my plans going forward, would it make sense to move our show night? Again, if we had guarantees about his loyalty to the company then we could do that with little concern (not that we have doubts about it, but when the Big Three come sniffing around, it's difficult to turn down such a large pay check). But there is a risk of alienating an existing audience.</p><p> </p><p>

In any case, we had to take a decision on how to resolve things in the short term, and the obvious solution was to put the belt on the best wrestler in the world, even if it is only in the short term. Which brings me back to my musings at the top of this entry – if it isn't possible to get a consistent roster who we can trust to be able to put a title on, do I have to revert to the same position that wrestling companies all around the world have found themselves in by default – give the belt to the one person who has a contract to stay in the company, who I can rely upon to be here next week, and next month, and so on?</p>

<strong>Jonnie Perez (c ) v. Tigre</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

This ought to be a mis-match, as Tigre definitely has the much wider ranging skillset here, but the confines of the Xtreme Championship seem to lend themselves to dragging both men down to Perez's level – neither is especially comfortable with working the more Hardcore style that the fans expect with this belt, and Tigre's work is the more visibly hampered. Perez flies about with little concern for the damage that he is doing to his own body or his opponent though, and seems to be picking up a trick or two from Tigre on how to escape some of his more technical holds, despite being somewhat off his best tonight, and it is his determination that eventually wins the day, a Triple-jump DDT eventually putting paid to the tag specialist's challenge.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Jonnie Perez (D)</span></p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, Al Coleman is in the midst of another argument with Willow, and Greg Black stands ready to intervene should the confrontation look to turn more physical than verbal. Coleman keeps giving Black the evils as well during the argument.</p><p> </p><p>

The gist of things seems to be that Coleman is unhappy that his former manager has found another client and that she is prepared to help him win his matches.</p><p> </p><p>

“Your problem is that you never wanted me to help you in your matches anyway,” Willow counters. “You thought you were so damn good that you could do it all yourself. Well maybe if you'd accepted my help in the first place instead of just expecting me to stand around like a brainless bimbo you'd've been more successful, eh?”</p><p> </p><p>

Coleman looks like he wants to give Willow a slap, but with Black looking on, he thinks better of it, and storms away. <span style="color:#000080;">(E+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p>

<strong>Storm Spillane v. Bullseye</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Fox Mask comes down to the ringside and takes up an additional chair at the announce table for this match, with Cliff Anderson noting that he has taken Bullseye under his wing as something as a protégé, and wants to get a closer look at his new charge.</p><p> </p><p>

The signs are not all that promising – despite Spillane still being hampered by some sort of injury to his chest, he is able to dominate the charismatic rookie, and his work definitely has more crispness about it in all phases. Bullseye wants to get into a brawl rather than a wrestling contest, and takes every opportunity to throw fists and forearms, but Spillane is both quick and talented, and is able to avoid much of the threat that his opponent poses, highlighting the difference between the two young men by finishing things off with a smooth transition from a double leg takedown into a kneeling Boston Crab that Bullseye has to tap to.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Storm Spillane (E+)</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Jackpot Jordan is backstage with a microphone and looks somewhat abashed.</p><p> </p><p>

“Far be it from me to give credit to my opponents on Monday, who did, after all, take advantage of my tag partner being injured to retain the titles. It is clear that, had we both been fit to wrestle and to continue the match we would have easily disposed of those masked idiots.</p><p> </p><p>

“However, the frustration of having to take on what essentially became a handicap match got the better of me, and I acted in a manner that was below my station – in the manner of those who are less well bred and who rely on their lower class so-called 'work ethic' to achieve what those of proper means and breeding accomplish without such deplorable efforts.”</p><p> </p><p>

He pauses and sneers down his nose at the camera.</p><p> </p><p>

“Indeed, as good manners require, I wish to take this opportunity to apologise to the man who was most badly affected by my actions on Monday – referee Germaine. Mister Germaine: I do hope my actions have not harmed you. I apologise for losing my temper and taking it out on you.”</p><p> </p><p>

The words indicate a legitimate apology, but Jordan's tone sounds rather less than sincere.</p><p> </p><p>

“Oh, and Wild Cats: if you think this is the end of the matter just because my tag partner is injured, you'd better think again!” <span style="color:#000080;">(D-)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Flash Sparrow (American Flash/Matt Sparrow) v. Notorious (Miguel Rivera/Carlos Barrera)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Notorious have started to develop an unfortunate losing streak, and they come out of the blocks firing here as though determined to end their poor run. Their problem here though is that their opponents are accomplished mat wrestlers as well as being able (in Sparrow's case) to hang with the bigger men in a brawl. American Flash does end up backed into the Notorious corner on a couple of occasions, eating some solid shots from the self-styled street fighters, but manages to escape each time without really looking in too much danger of an extended beating.</p><p> </p><p>

Perhaps this is what keeps the crowd from getting too involved. Flash Sparrow never really look as though they are going to lose this, despite the best efforts of Rivera and Berrera, and it comes as little surprise when the more experienced pairing come away with the victory, Sparrow rolling Berrera up for a quick three count on the back of a beautiful missile drop-kick from Flash that appears to be a new move in his repertoire.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winners: Flash Sparrow (D-)</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>

Match over, Rivera is quickly back to his feet and lays into Sparrow, who is taken by surprise. Berrera hits Flash with a heavy spinebuster and the defeated duo lay in the boots, and leave Flash Sparrow lying on the canvas. Now if only Notorious could achieve this sort of victory in the ring during a match... <span style="color:#000080;">(E)</span></p><p>

<p><strong>Saturday 6th February 2016</strong></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="UTmpDDF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UTmpDDF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

With the figures in from the first full month of trading, there is good news. It seems that my initial concerns about the lack of money coming in may be less of an issue than I first thought. Moving to having a weekly show alongside the monthly big events may have been more important than anything else, even if it does mean that one of our best performers, myself excluded of course, is only available for one show in five.</p><p> </p><p>

Given that, Mr Cliff has graciously allowed me to expend some of this wealth on the production type things. He agrees that there is little point in putting on well regarded shows if they do not increase our standing in the world, and all the reports we have are that the package that we provide with our current show, it hurts our popularity. Apparently, here in America the packaging for everything is as important as the content. Mr Cliff likens it to having excellent television programmes but very poor reception. He seems to forget that in Mexico just to have a television is a luxury – the quality of the picture is a mere side issue. What I think some call a “First World problem”. In any case, we will begin to employ some dedicated event staff to manage concessions and tickets, upgrade the ring areas and screens to a more modern standard, and spend some money on licensing of known music for entrances and introductions. Hopefully this will make some sort of difference, and our fans will appreciate the extra efforts.</p><p> </p><p>

I have also been permitted to distribute some small bonuses to well-deserving wrestlers. Some of them have been a little disheartened by minor events around the company over the last month and it is good to reward them for their loyalty.</p><p> </p><p>

If we can keep this money coming in then there will be other areas of the business we can see about improving. Even with the greatest wrestler in the world performing regularly, more high quality wrestlers can never be a bad thing. We could also look at getting in more Road Agents to improve the quality of the matches. Most of all, we could improve our commentary team. This is not quite as important at the minute, since without a television show the commentators are not quite as important, but Mr Cliff has asked me to find someone to replace him as lead announcer. This, I think, is a good thing. Mr Cliff does a good enough job for the level that we are working at, but if we are to progress further we will need someone who can focus only on the wrestling and not so much on the business. Maybe also more and better referees. For all the respect that accords to the funny-named Pee-wee Germaine, he is only average in his job, and adds little to matches that I have seen more of from those at a higher level.</p>

<p>Could see a couple of these matches going either way.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Matt Sparrow</strong> vs. Waylon Walls</p><p>

<em>Sparrow's place in the CZCW pecking order is above Walls'.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Fox Mask/Bullseye</strong> vs. Champagne Lover/Simon Waves</p><p>

<em>Lover looks pretty unstoppable at this point, but I imagine Fox Mask is a future title contender and Waves can eat the pin.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The American Cobras vs. <strong>Going Coastal</strong></p><p>

<em>Guessing the former CLM goes over here to continue his feud with the Cobras.</em></p>

Matt usually pushes as a main eventer while Waylon is far down on the card.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Fox Mask/Bullseye</strong> vs. Champagne Lover/Simon Waves</p><p> </p><p>

This is a tough one right here. Mainly because both teams have huge weak links in Bullseye and Simon Waves. I am not sure where to go with this one...so I shall follow the majority here.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>CZCW Tonight</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Friday 12th February 2016</strong></p><p> </p><p>

San Diego, California</p><p> </p><p>

Attendance: 3200</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Matt Sparrow v. Waylon Walls</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Waylon Walls is in an obviously bad mood as this one gets under way, and proceeds to try and take it out on his opponent, coming out swinging early doors and using his brawling style to swamp Sparrow with punches, kicks and generally anything that might prevent Sparrow from utilising his more sophisticated repertoire. At times it looks like Walls might just pull this off, and he does get to hit his favourite double arm DDT, but not cleanly, and Sparrow kicks out well before the three. From there things go less well for Walls, and even as both men tire it is Sparrow who is able to gain the upper hand and does his best to keep Walls grounded, eventually finishing him off with a well executed Bird Brain Buster.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Matt Sparrow (D-)</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Backstage, we have the unusual sight of Super Ninja talking to the camera.</p><p> </p><p>

“Champagne Lover, you may call yourself the greatest wrestler in the world, but you've barely left your home country, so if that isn't self-aggrandizement of the highest order I don't know what is. When you have wrestled in Japan, and been a multi-time champion with a major American company like myself, you might have some claim towards that, but at present, it is simply dust in the wind.</p><p> </p><p>

“The years of experience I have had honing my arts against so many different styles will be a complete surprise to you, I'm sure, for someone who pays so little attention to anything other than himself, but when it comes down to the Coastal Zone Championship at Uprising, you can be sure that you will feel the Ninja Strike, and you will suddenly know pain. And then perhaps a little loss of consciousness, hehe.”</p><p> </p><p>

The sound of the ninja chuckling is a little disconcerting, as you don't really expect humour from him.</p><p> </p><p>

“Needless to say, I hope you continue to believe yourself the greatest wrestler in the world, for after all, if you have no understanding of what your opponent can do to you, you will have no fear of it. And not fearing the Super Ninja could just be the one mistake you make that wins me the Coastal Zone title...” <span style="color:#000080;">(D+)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Fox Mask & Bullseye v. Champagne Lover & Simon Waves</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Almost two singles matches rather than one tag match: whenever Lover is in the ring Fox Mask does his best to be there to match him, and whenever Lover tags out to Waves, Fox Mask is keen to get Bullseye in quickly. As a result, there is a distinct discrepancy in quality as well, depending on who is in the ring at any one time, as both junior partners look to be rather off their game this evening, whilst the veterans still seem to be learning from one another – probably not the way you'd want things to be.</p><p> </p><p>

What is clear though, is that Bullseye is benefiting from slicker teamwork with his mentor than Waves is getting out of Lover. Lover seems largely indifferent to Waves' plight when he gets cornered, and doesn't have any compunction in tagging out and leaving him to Fox Mask as and when he feels like the opponents are getting the better of him. In the end that is what costs them, as Waves is left in the ring when Lover tags out to a clearly suffering Waves following a nasty DDT received from Fox Mask, and the veteran decides that the time is right to put the opposition away instead of tagging his partner in. A second DDT and a Flying Fox splash later and it's all over, with Lover not even attempting to break the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winners: Fox Mask & Bullseye (C-)</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="ZpZFv07.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ZpZFv07.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="M31wwgr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/M31wwgr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Britney Hollywood comes out to the ring alongside Al Coleman, clearly ready to talk.</p><p> </p><p>

“As you've probably gathered, since my beloved Donnie is no longer here in California, I need a new wrestler to manage in order to keep paying the bills. Looks like these don't come cheap, babes.” </p><p> </p><p>

She flounces around the ring a little, showing off her looks, before continuing.</p><p> </p><p>

“So since Al here and the old bag Willow seem to have a disagreement, and Willow's managed to sleep her way into getting a new client, Al has asked me to be his new manager, to even the score, so to speak.</p><p> </p><p>

“And since Willow's new pimp obviously can't beat Al without her help, I'll be running interference for Al, and we'll settle things once and for all at CZCW Uprising, if that's all the same to you, sweetheart.”</p><p> </p><p>

Neither Greg Black nor Willow deigns to come out to answer the challenge. <span style="color:#000080;">(D)</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="OKvFwS8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OKvFwS8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><p><strong>

The American Cobras (Jimmy Marvel/Storm Spillane) v. Going Coastal (Lance Trueman/Fernandes Franklin)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

There's a big stare-down between Spillane and Trueman before things even get started here, and Marvel tries to defuse the tension by insisting on starting the match out, but neither Spillane (despite his still-obvious chest injury) nor Trueman is having any part of that, so keen are they to lock horns immediately.</p><p> </p><p>

That's a bit of a shame, because their animosity is apparently impacting on the quality of their wrestling, and it takes nearly five minutes before either man is willing to tag out, with Franklin almost forcing the issue when Spillane drops Trueman with a nasty corner splash/flying knee combination that leaves Trueman down in their corner. Eventually we get some back-and-forth and different pairs in the ring, but the Cobras are largely able to retain the advantage.</p><p> </p><p>

The tide turns when Trueman low blows Marvel whilst Pee-wee Germaine is unsighted by the angle he's taken, and Spillane takes immediate offence, rushing into the ring to object. Franklin comes in to even the numbers, and a regular pier four brawl breaks out, with Germaine seemingly unable to control things. He lets it ride for a fair few minutes, but the brawl spills out of the ring and up the aisle, and he has little alternative to rule the match an anticlimactic double count-out draw, as it appears that there is no hope of any return to the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="color:#000080;">Winner: Nobody (D+)</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p><p><span style="color:#000080;">

Overall Show Grade: D+</span></p><p> </p><p>

</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;">

Author's Notes</span></p><p> </p><p>

Thanks very much for all the predictions, once again. The non-finish in the final bout meant that nobody ended up with a complete slate this time around. Two from three for BHK1978, Lt. Lucrativo and Theheel. </p><p> </p><p>

michgcs made the comparison between Champagne Lover and Triple H, which I found particularly amusing (but cost him a point by picking Lover) - because I initially picked Lover as an avatar as someone who was an outsider coming in and would expect to be at the top of the card by right of his accomplishments to date, but who I could afford to have lose matches at any time (as the user avatar) without complaint... yet the loss of Donnie and Masked Cougar, and the lack of availability of Frankie meant he was the best person to take on the belt, and I needed to find a way to get that into the storyline (so far, so good...)</p>

Saturday 13th February

UTmpDDF.jpg

Searching for people who could be available for CZCW to add to the Announce desk reveals to me something that I found hard to believe.

There is an announcer of the ultimate highest class, who has been made the scapegoat of his company's relative fall from grace. He is still in his prime as a man who can relay the action to the viewer and add a great deal of depth and understanding to how the match works, what the wrestlers are trying to do. He has a substantial understanding of how the industry works, and what the booker is trying to achieve in certain matches and situations, having been a booker himself until 2015, when he was fired by the SWF.

Yes, unbelievably, Peter Michaels is still a free agent, is still interested in working as a wrestling announcer and, perhaps even more unbelievably, is willing to talk to CZCW about working here. For some reason, nobody has even approached him since SWF made him the fall guy for their slip behind USPW, even though it was his booking that was the questionable area of his work, rather than his announcing. Yet he is perhaps the best out there at calling the action, and for TCW or USPW, or even the Canadian promotions, to have passed up on his services seems remarkable, and perhaps just the fillip that CZCW needs to get the company noticed beyond the confines of California.

Admittedly we will need to pay him, but even his initial asking price was not beyond what we could afford – it would make him the second highest earner in the company, at present, but to my mind it would be worth it – he would be heard in every match, not just one match a week, and would add a huge amount to the presentation. Now we just have to convince him to sign! Perhaps the honour of calling matches involving the greatest wrestler in the world will be the sort of enticement he is interested in!

<strong>@michgcs:</strong> Yeah I have had Waylon Walls in at least one diary. I might have been more than one. Plus I always play as CZCW (They are one of my favorite C-Verse companies), so I tend to always have Waylon in one of my games at all times.</p>
