WCW - Saving The Legacy (2001)

Recommended Posts

I had no idea you had a diary here Togg! I'm reasonably new. I can't wait to read this entire thing today :D

Welcome to the boards in that case, hope it didn't make your day drag :D. Just trying to get a few more shows in the bag before i start posting again.

Keen to see another vet getting back in the game.

I may be in the Vet Category, but i certainly don't see myself as one:p. This is only my second ever diary that lasted past 2-3 shows:D. The last one was in 2010 :D

WCW Saving The Legacy will continue from Thursday with WCW Thunder

Starting from Thursday on-wards, Nitro will be posted every Monday, Thunder every Thursday and PPV's on Sunday. This would mean my current stock of write ups would end May 24th. Given that TEW 2020 is out in April, this will hopefully buy me enough time to transfer over the data ready for the Diary to continue on the TEW 2020 platform :D

WCW Nitro opens up with Scott Steiner making his way to the ring, with Midajah on his arm. Steiner wastes no time in insulting Nash, saying his hayday with the NWO is over and done and that he should accept the new order around here and that's the Elite Era. Steiner says that Nash should think about joining them, not getting in their way, Saying that his retirement would be a whole lot sweeter as an Elite Era member. But with that Steiner says he will accept Nash’s challenge for tonight, but only on his terms. Steiner says that if he doesn't accept them, don't turn up. Steiner then says he wants the match to be no holds barred. Steiner then exits the ring, where he goes to ringside, throws in a few weapons to the ring and then heads up the ramp, to the back.

Backstage Stacy Keibler is talking to the newly names S.O.S for their disaster as of late. Stacy tells them they can't keep asking for chances, that they have to back up what they are saying, or move on. The straight talking doesn't go down well with Stasiak and Sanders who tell her to watch this. They then march to Jarrett's office door again. This time Jarrett calls them in and he isn't impressed. Jarrett says they have one final chance on Nitro, but only if they can beat the team he puts in front of them tonight. Stasiak is taken back by the fact he didn't even get to ask for anything, before Jarrett cuts him off. Stasiak however thanks him and says “We won't let you down boss” Jarrett however tells them to shut up, get out and start training in the ring and not on the microphone, because they talk a big game but let everyone down. Stasiak and Sanders then leave looking pretty sheepish as Stacy smirks at them both and say “Watch this huh boys”.

Mark Jindrak vs Vampiro

In a bizzare challenge for Jindrak, he faces off against the bizarre and unhinged Vampiro. The match starts off well as Jindrak looks to dominate, however Vampiro looks to enjoy the punishment, in the most creepy fashion. When he is on the offensive side he is like a man possessed and when he's having his ass handed to him. He taunts Jindrak asking for more. Once again Mysterio returns the favour and causes a distraction for Vampiro, allowing Jindrak to hit the Mark of Perfection to pick up the win.

After the match Mysterio gets on the microphone and says he thinks they are just about even. This prompts Vampiro to get a microphone of his own and tells Mysterio it's not even yet, they still have lots more fun, they have only just started to get to know each other. Mysterio calls him weird and says he doesn't want to be friends, he just wants revenge for costing him the Cruiserweight Championship. Vampiro tells Mysterio that he did it for his own good. Vampiro says they can't be friends and the tag team masked superstars if he is still Cruiserweight Champion. Mysterio then calls him crazy for thinking they could be partners. Mysterio tried to drive home the fact, alongside questioning Vampiro’s motive for stealing Mysterio's mask. Vampiro says he wants to be Mysterio. Mysterio then calls him Psychopathic. This is when the mood changes. Vampiro tells Mysterio not to call him that, saying that if he uses that word, their friendship will be over. Mysterio looks puzzled at the jekyll and hyde moment and just tells Vampiro to stay out of his way. Mysterio then turns around and leaves as Vampiro exits the ring and looks to smile all the way up the ramp and to the back.

Backstage and Ric Flair pulls AJ Styles aside and brings up the topic of AJ questioning his place in the Horsemen. Flair tells him not to doubt himself. Flair says that he didn't just need a place filler in the group, he chose Styles for a reason. Flair says he is one of the brightest young stars on the roster and that his future is bright. AJ Thanks Flair and says he hopes Flair didn't take it personally. Flair says he was shocked that doubt had set in, but promised Styles his full support.

S.O.S. vs The Mamalukes

For Stasiak and Sanders this is the last chance saloon to get a rematch against The Natural Born Thrillers. Promised a shot if they beat the Mamalukes, it's no surprise that they waste no time in getting the match started, interrupting the entrance of the Mamalukes and throwing them straight into the ring. Stomboli proves to be a tough force for the duo as he provides a great comeback after an early beat down. The odds in the match are firmly in the SOS camp as they pull in their first victory as a team and the first victory in weeks.

Now the camera is in the office of Eric Bischoff who is backstage at tonight's event. Bischoff is seen sat at a table with both Jeff Jarrett and Ric Flair. Bischoff says he is sick of the ongoing battle and asks if there is the possibility of a compromise or a truce. Bischoff points out that the recent events have driven him to aggressive decision making, such as the War Games match at Fall Brawl. Bischoff then asks either man to put forward an idea to help make things better in the management office of WCW. Jarrett is the first to chirp in and says if Bischoff takes the War Games stipulations that are stacked against the Elite Era off the table, he would see it as a gesture of goodwill and reign in his guys. Bischoff says his point is noted and will be considered. Flair then says he thinks they should just split the company in two, let Jarrett go off and run his “Elite Championship Wrestling” and let WCW get back to normal. Bischoff says it's noted but that he doesn't want to fracture the company. At that moment, the door to the office burts open an in rushes Chyner who attacks Flair from behind as he sits down at the table. Bischoff yells at her to stop and even pleads with Jarrett to get her in line, however she continues and ends up performing a Chynerbomb onto the table, before leaving, closely followed by Jarrett.

Kevin Nash vs Scott Steiner

Steiner is first out to the ring, and brings with him a lead pipe. Steiner waits in the ring to see if Nash accepts the challenge stipulations. That's when the Music of Nash hits and out walks Nash with a 2x4, obviously accepting the challenge. Nash gets into the ring and all hell breaks loose. For the most part, the match is back and fore brawling on both the inside and outside of the ring. Nash gets the early advantage and takes Steiner on a walk around ringside, slamming his head and body into anything he can find, from steel steps, to the barricade. It's Midajah who helps to stop the momentum, by picking up a chair and hitting Nash in the back with it. Nash Immediately shakes it off, but it gives Steiner enough time to get himself together and get back in control. The match then battles on with a back and forth approach until Midajah once again gets involved. She throws the lead pipe into the ring allowing Steiner to use it to both knees of Nash, before using it as leverage when he locks in the Recliner on Nash, forcing him to tap out.

Winner: Steiner

Straight after the match, both Luger and Bagwell rush to the ring and help Steiner continue the onslaught of an attack on Nash. Nash looks out of it and doesn't get a chance to fight back. The announcers are left asking where his partner DDP is to make the save and watch his back. Eventually the attack stops and Steiner, along with Luger and Buff, make their way to the top of the ramp and taunt to the camera’s and Thunder goes off air.

As soon as the intro ends, the Music of Kevin Nash hits. Out walks Nash to the ring with a limp following the attack this past Thursday on WCW Nitro. Nash gets into the ring and immediately questions what went down. Nash says he didn't expect anything less from the snakes that are the Elite Era, but he at least thought his friend and partner would have his back. Nash says he can't believe Page didn't come out to help, saying he was only having a beer with him before Thunder went on air. With that DDP comes out and starts to explain himself. Page says he left the arena early to grab something to eat. Page says he would have been by his side if he asked, but Nash had told him “He’s got it”. Page then slowly walks to the ring as Nash tells him that they are like brothers and he doesn't want the Elite Era to come between them, but in future they have to have each other's backs. Pags agreeds and both men went to shake hands when out walks Scott Steiner. Steiner tells them to cut the crap and realise they are always alone when they take on the Elite Era. Page then says to Steiner that they will prove him wrong tonight and challenge him to a tag match. Page says he and Nash will take him and any of his EE cronies on tonight. Steiner accepts and says he never turns down an opportunity to humiliate someone. Saything that he has the chance to hit a double whammy tonight.

#1 Contender - WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Shane Helms vs Billy Kidman vs Kaz Hayashi vs Elix Skipper vs Aguila

Set up by Eric Bischoff to find a challenger for Chavo Guerrero’s Cruiserweight Championship after Chavo refused to take on Billy Kidman's challenge. The match features just a handful of the cruiserweights in WCW and goes to show the skill these guys have. Kaz shines as a performer in the match, showing his skill as a great cruiserweight. Throughout the match, Shane Helms is seen getting frustrated every time he gets close to a 3 count. His recent downturn in WCW has been in the back of everyone's minds as an afterthought and right now he is feeling it. The final moments of the match are between Kidman and Helms. Helms looks to win the match with a quick roll up, but after Kidman kicks out, it's Kidman who then performs a roll up, this time winning as Helms fails to be able to kick out before the 3 count.

Mysterio then brings up the fact that they don't know who Vampiro will have as his partner, calling him an unlikable guy with no friends. Next and Chyner is with Jeremy Borash who put the question to her, “What is you issue with Ric Flair”. Chyner says she is paid to get personal, she points out her job as an enforcer for the Elite Era as one of the reasons. Chyner says that Flair is a thorn in the side of her boss Jeff Jarrett and that she has a job to do and that's to take out Flair. Borash asks what her motives are in WCW. Booker T vs Chavo Guerrero

In an impromptu match one of the Team WCW members takes on a member of the Elite Era in a one on one battle. Chavo is riding high at the moment, recently taking the Cruiserweight Championship from Rey Mysterio who he had fought and failed in the past. Tonights showing from both men is said to be a great showing as the standard of the match was above what anyone was expecting. Chavo holds his own with the former WCW Champion and looks to be strong competition. The match ends in a clean fashion as Booker hits the Book End and puts another victory in the WCW Camp.

Backstage and the cameras are in the locker room of the Elite Era. As a defeated Chavo walks in, the rest of the group are all sat down and congratulate him on a hell of a performance. Steiner then stands up and addresses everyone. Steiner says that they are under attack at Fall Brawl. Everything they hold precious is on the line and that doesn't just include Championships, it also includes the position of Co-President of WCW. Thats when Jarrett stands up and calls on everyone to do one thing. Jarrett says they can afford to lose a title, they can get that back on their own terms under an automatic rematch clause, however his position of power… once it's gone, it's gone. Jarrett calls on everyone to stop that happening and asks everyone to make sure he stays in power. Jarrett then calls all the Team members by name and says how each has been fundamental to the success and domination of WCW as of late. Jarrett says he has Chyner by his side and in his corner battling Flair and the Horsemen, pointing out that they have threats in all directions. That's when Jarrett says he has an ace up his sleeve for War Games but says he can't even tell his team mates because the deal he has struck needs not be kept as quiet as possible. Everyone starts to mutter with wonder when Jarrett says that it's going to ensure their future, just believe in him. He then asks them all to stand and they all put their hands in and shout “Elite”.

The camera now switches to Team WCW who are also having a get together. Sting is addressing everyone, calling them all pillars of WCW and that they must all put individual focus’s aside for one night and make sure the job is done. Dustin Rhodes then takes the floor and talks about his utter dislike of the whole of the Elite Era and what they stand for. Dustin says he comes from a wrestling background and a second generation star. Dustin says that in his fathers day, something like the Elite Era wouldn't be allowed to take over, because there was a mutual respect between the guys. Dustin says they should bring that back and stand against the power of Evil. Sting then takes back over and lists every bad thing the Elite Era has done to each of them. Attacking Dustin multiple times, Costing them all chances to win gold, even forcing Kevin Nash out of WCW. Sting says what every they do after Fall Brawl is up to them, but until then, they all have to be one. Everyone cheers as they then begin to file out of the room.

Bischoff says he is disgusted at the actions of Chyner this past week on Thunder, after he tried to broker a truce between Jarrett, Flair and WCW. Bischoff says her actions were unacceptable and her lack of disrespect was unforgivable. He then says he has no other option but to teach her a lesson, a lesson that will be given to her by the Nature Boy. S.O.S. vs Natural Born Thrillers

In a last ditch attempt to win over Jarrett and the Elite Era, Stasiak and Sanders battle for the last time with the NBT. Pumped and brought to the ring by Stacy Keibler, the S.O.S team look ready for battle. O’Haire is first to get in the ring with Sanders and absolutely obliterates him, throwing him to the corner of Stasiak, who battles O’Haire to somewhat level the playing field. The match however doesn't last that long as a quick tag to Palumbo, and a few double teams, followed by another tag back to O’Haire, allows him to hit his Swanton on Stasiak to pick up the win once again.

Before O’Haire can get back to his feet, the crowd goes nuts as they witness Adams and Clarke or Kronik run to the ring. They immediately go straight for O’Haire, kicking him in the head and allowing them to both turn their attention to Palumbo. After picking him apart, Clarke and Adams lift up the NBT and hit them both with Chokeslams before exiting the ring to a stunned crowd, who just witnesses the mauling of their beloved tag team, at the hands of the Returning Kronik.

The first question Borash asks Storm is how he feels to be the #1 contender to the United States Heavyweight Championship. Storm says it feels great to go after a championship that has had so much prestige put back into it following the reign of Sting. Storm says it's a disgrace the way Kanyon won the title and a disgrace how the title is now in the hands of someone who doesn't deserve it. Storm points out he already beat Kanyon tonight and it wont be a difficult task to do it again at Fall Brawl. Borash then asks how his fellow Horsemen feel about his shot. Storm says everyone is behind him and that they have all offered to be in his corner, but he wants to do it alone. Borash thanks him for his time and wishes him luck at Fall Brawl.

The Insiders vs The Steiner Brothers

Following on from some tension at the start of the show, Page and Nash have patched things up ahead of their match tonight. Both men come out and look to be on good terms with each other. The music of Scott Steiner hits and out he walks with his Brother, giving the Insiders a challenger of one of the most formidable tag teams of the past decade. As the Steiners make their way into the ring, they immediately go for the attack. Nash is taken out and both men turn to Page to take him out. After a brief assault on Page, Scott gets out of the ring and stands on the apron while Rick and Nash battle in the ring as the legal men. For almost 8 minutes straight, Nash is left to fend for himself and Page is laid out on the outside of the ring. Nash is left to fight back and fail multiple times as he has nobody to tag out to. Page then eventually makes it back to the apron and after a mini struggle, Page manages to get the hot tag and go on the assault. Page takes out both the Steiners with Diamond Cutters before tagging Nash back in, who picks up Rick and hits him with a Jackknife powerbomb to pick up the victory.

After losing earlier to the Natural Born Thrillers, Sanders and Stasiak are looking defeated backstage, questioning what they can do next. That's when Sanders spots AJ Styles walking past with his bags. Sanders punches Stasiak in the arm and points towards Styles. Both men then run towards him and start screaming, which alerts Styles to their presence. Unbeknown to S.O.S however is that Styles isn't alone. Just around the corner is Jindrak and Candido who take out Sanders and Stasiak before they can even get to Styles. The 3 members of the Horsemen then pick up Sanders and Stasiak, throw them into a nearby laundry tote and proceed to wheel them out of the nearby fire escape, dumping them outside the arena. Styles, Jindrak and Candido then come back in, grab their luggage and in a perfectly times moment, Jindrak says “I think they need a boil wash, it smells like someone s**t around here”.

Konnan and Rey Mysterio vs Vampiro

Now back to ringside and Konnan is out first, followed by Mysterio, who both wait in the ring and wait to see who the partner of Vampiro is. Vampiro comes out alone, with a replica of Mysterio's mask in his hand. Vampiro gets into the ring and goes to his corner, placing the mask on the top of the corner post. The referee then asks Vampiro where his partner is, Vampiro points the the corner and tells the referee to start the match. Konnan starts it out with Vampiro, who have a pretty good battle, both men are taken to the floor after a double crossbody, leaving them to crawl to their corners. Konnan tags in Mystero and Vampiro seems to tag his corner. In a weird moment of television, Vampiro puts on the mask, seems to get a rush of energy and gets back into the ring. After a brief stare down between the now masked men, Mysterio throws the first kick. An already beaten Vampiro (Now Masked) doesn't take long to show signs of wear and tear and Mysterio manages to pick up the victory after a bizarre showing from Vampiro

Flair then says to Sting that he has no right to ask anything of him, but he wants to ask just one favour. Flair says he wants Sting to make sure that whoever picks up the victory for Team WCW, they make sure it's over Jeff Jarrett. Sting then stands up and locks eyes with Flair. Sting says he understands the outcome of the War Games match and it's been on his mind non stop. Flair then says he knew that would be the case, but says he promises whoever wins, a shot a WCW World Heavyweight Championship, exactly what everyone wants, but that's only possible if they pin Jarrett and remove him from power. Sting nods and Flair continues. Flair says he can't guarantee anything with Jarrett still in power and reminds Sting of how he was pretty much screwed out of the United States HEavyweight Championships just last month at New Blood Rising. Sting then holds out his hand and tells Flair “I Know what we have to do”. Both then shake hands as Flair leaves Sting in peace

Jeff Jarrett vs Dustin Rhodes

Finally the main event is here and it's the last of the head to heads that have been happening the past few weeks between Team WCW and the Elite Era. In a great Main Event match, both men put on a great performance in the ring. Chyner is at ringside throughout the match and just stands in the corner of Jarrett, with her arms crossed and seemingly keeping herself out of the business in the ring. Neither man comes out of the match looking weak, as blow by blow they both look not only credible winners, but strong contenders for inside the War Games match. Eventually the underhand tactics of having Chyner at ringside come into play, when she helps to trip up Dustin, allowing a momentary distraction, leading to Jarrett hitting a Stroke and picking up the victory, making it a final win for the Elite Era. WCW Nitro then ends with Chyner raising the Hand of Jarrett in the Ring.

Winner: Jeff Jarrett

Time: 11:04

Do you write all the BB code in word or similar or use some kind of software/site to work it out?

I always found it quite frustrating and time consuming but you appear to have it nailed down.

Great stuff

For some reason the GDS forums hate HTML, I spend HOURS! and HOURS! trying to figure out a way that worked.

I use 2 formulas, One for writing shows and one for the news posts.

With the "News" format, i save the basic build in a document file, then use a HTML editor (Link Here) to add in each weeks News. Once its edited, I "Compress HTML" then its ready to go.

With the Writing of a show, I have a more complex set up which i have Colour coded the death out of :D. Feel free to take a look and see if it helps (Link Here)

Using this method, you have to highlight everything once you've pasted it to GDS, Click the 2 "A's" with the red X through them in the top left on GDS, to remove formatting. From there, it should work...

Im sure there are other ways, but thats my 2 reliable ways and im sticking to them :p:D

Thanks :D, Your Cheque is in the post, dont make it look so obvious next time :p.

Always happy to share anything i have learned. Hopefully it will help a few others. If we each share a little, Think of the Monster Diary Writers we can make :D:p:D.

Absolutely. We can all help each other out with all kinds of things. Useful tips from other writers and contributors have helped me immensely with my presentation and writing style.

Love the news story post. Has Rhyno been snapped up by you guys?

Thank you, I'll take a look. I tried using various code builders and excel but always ran into an issue and have been considering going the pdf route as a result

Silent diary reader here, but your presentation has always been insane and it's cool to see you pull back the curtain somewhat for people like me who have no idea what they're doing with code haha
