Your Favorite/Least Favorite CVerse Promotions

Recommended Posts

I thought it might be interesting to see what people's favorite and least favorite CVerse Promotions are. We all have them, so what are they??

Favorite

1. MAW -- I've loved MAW since I first played as them in 2005. They are the company I start with in any new iteration of the game. I love the style of company they are -- their history. Just love them!

2. RMW -- While Rocky Mountain Wrestling has not debuted, they're essentially very similar to MAW. They are the company my diary is about and I've fallen in love with them.

3. PGHW -- By far my favorite Japanese company. They have all of my favorite Japanese talent.

4. NOTBW -- I'm a Stone's guy. They're my favorite family in wrestling and have been since I first encountered them. Dan Stone Jr is actually my favorite wrestler in CVerse lore -- until he retired I always tried to steal him away and build around him.

5. BCG -- This is because of Dark Raider's sensational diary. He really put me on to the defenders of Puro!. Plus, Pistol Pete was their first champion and American Demolition are key building blocks, so I love them!

Least Favorite

1. SWF -- The Eisen run company has always been my least favorite. I'm not a popularity > performance guy and most of the established roster in SWF are guys I could take or leave. They have some guys in developmental I really like + Marshall Dillon & Starr, but the rest of their roster are guys that I'm not fans of.

2. USPW -- See above for SWF. Though, USPW has several guys I like, they're just not my kind of company.

3. CGC -- The DeColts are the arch rivals of the Stone's and I am a Stone guy!

1) QAW- Fun, and fairly easy to expand.

2) AAA- Trickier to expand, but you have one of the better mixes of veteran talent and young workers.

3) OLLIE- Probably the best Lucha fed in the game. Popular enough so that it's not a struggle, but not so big that you have the issues that SOTBPW has.

4) SWF- I just like it.

Least Favorites

1) NOTBPW- I keep trying, but I think perf > pop companies aren't for me, at least ones with the starting issues that NOTBPW has.

2) EMLL- I really want to like them, but that 1 on 1 thing is a downer.

3) MHW- This one has a couple of caveats. Usually, when I've done a watch game just to get to when a new company starts up that I can take over, El Critico is the founder. And he HATES alliances and working agreements. Between that, your starting cash, and starting pop, you'll get murdered by OLLIE without some edits. And that doesn't even take into account that there aren't a whole lot of good hardcore workers in Mexico.

4) ACPW- I believe each company was created to give lessons in how to play the game. SWF teaches you how to manage a developmental company. Regional companies in Mexico and Japan teach you how to balance patience with the need to advance in size. I believe with ACPW the lesson is "Have you seen the in-game editor?" Here is a synopsis of my first impressions when trying ACPW....

"Okay, so, the owner's really rich, but we only have $100k to start? Well, hopefully the product lends itself to sponsorship and... no, it doesn't. Well, maybe we're in a hot region? Oh, we're in the Maritimes. Well, if we switch to touring, then maybe that will give us a bit of... no, the owner blocked it. Well, hey, there's a Women's title in the title belt pics folder, and female wrestlers are often cheaper than they're male counterparts, so we can use them for smaller events, so I'll just start a women's division and... Buchinsky blocked that too. Pardon me a moment while I shout profanities into this paper bag."

Favorite (all time)

1. USPW Pre-2016: They were fun to book as the growing 3rd place fed competing with SWF and TCW, as well as trying to get your future over while trying to squeeze good grades out of the older guys. Keeping USPW as National, or in past editions in trying to grow the promotion fast enough to where I dont lose my top guys, while growing my top guys to be as popular as possible to get the best grades possible, was one of my favorite challenges pre-2016.

2. CGC 2016: Once USPW became too big to fail and the philosophy changed entirely to where the AI takes any and every half decent talent, I feel like the spark was gone compared to the more 80s inspired product that Sam Strong oversaw. I think CGC is the best choice for those who miss old USPW, and if you love rebuilding a promotion to making it great again.

3. NYCW: I'm biased for two reasons, one because I am from New York originally, and two because NYCW was one of the first promotions I've had saves in the trial version of TEW 2008 and the full version of TEW 2010. I love the challenge of phasing out the old and bringing in new blood, while still keeping the NYCW product what we know and love. I haven't played an NYCW save in a long time, but it was one of my more enjoyable times in my earlier TEW playing days.

4. GCG 2016: When it comes to puro/japanese promotions, I've only really ever given GCG and PGHW a chance in my games, but out of those two, I strongly prefer GCG. They still have a great roster for their level, and the talent essentially books itself. I found the product very effective at getting guys who can work over pretty quickly with the right match and the right coverage.

5. UEW circa-2010: I like this promotion for some of the same reasons I liked GCG, but on a less effective scale as the European guys aren't as good as the Japanese ones in GCG. I had fond memories of TEW 2010 where I built up Crusher Von Steinberg and my User Character to B-grade pop in the region that UEW is based in. I think UEW has a strong foundation, much like NYCW and GCG, to really take it over to the next level once you sign the right talent.

Least Favorite:

1. TCW pre-2016: One thing I really don't like about TEW is the disparity in match grades when you are booking and when the AI is booking, so that turned me off from TCW to begin with when I was getting B- and C+ shows while the AI would have to try hard to get worse than a B lot of the times, plenty of times B+ or above once some time passes. TCW also didn't really have anything amazing that really pulled me to the product before Tommy Cornell left, and Tommy Cornell being the head of TCW and its top guy seemed like their only claim to fame compared to the other promotions. I did and do have a MUCH better experience playing TCW with Tommy Cornell in 21CW, though, and now that they've fallen to the point where they are in USPW's former position of the company that has something to prove.

2. CZCW: I've played a few games as CZCW, but even though I'd get great grades from the jump, there was no passion there for that particular promotion.

3. Most Hardcore Promotions Except PSW/4C, including DAVE: I have a hard time playing as Hardcore feds in TEW, whether real world or fantasy verses. It's tough between the low sponsorship money, sometimes the feds being pop based, the small size which hurts pop based feds even more, and the intensity/danger levels increasing the chances that the wrestlers will get hurt. I almost never play as a Hardcore promotion with its default product, and I always change the product around to where it's the best balance between remaining hardcore and giving us the most sponsorship money. My best experiences of playing as hardcore companies was in this PSW save I had, but again, I had to change the product to my liking, which I'm not sure really counts. I also had a pretty solid 4C save one time as well.

At least MOSC got a spiritual successor in SNP, ROF got what, UEW?

GSW: A SoCal hardcore company with a roster full of black and hispanic workers, plus a chance to use all kinds of 90s West Coast hip hop? Yes please. So very different from every other promotion. Pretty much what made me pull the trigger and purchase TEW16, especially after reading some of Voeltzwagon's GSW dynasties.

BCG: Where my love for Ring of Fire meets my love of an "anti-something bigger" promotion (fan of the original ECW here) and my delving into the real world puroresu scene. With the Japanese letters in it and "Burning" in the title, it felt like a BHOTWG child promotion, but they already got Hinote Dojo and it is canon Hinote used to run shows of its own anyway. Inspired by Bison's mod above, I tried to do something similar, re-opening Ring of Fire with the same "Euroresu" product under a different name to avoid legal action from 21CW.

Piledriver Wrestling: The aforementioned ROF/Burning Spirit project didn't work out, as my custom workers were a bit too colorful for that product, so I moved the entire idea over to the US. Piledriver do exist as a promotion in the CVerse97 mod, but always go out of business quick due to being Local, with low funds and a dojo to fund. I brought them up to speed and may or may not be doing a dynasty soon. So far I got my hands full with a few other diaries and I don't want to step on Bison's toes either.

White Canvas Grappling: Another promotion inspired by a simple logo willr0ck put out. Reminiscent of BCG, so perf>pop, not much high flying and with "white" in the title, it made sense for me to base them in Canada, land of snow and technical wrestling. British Columbia, to be exact, so the flights to and from Japan would be convenient. Haven't yet settled on their relationship with BCG or whether they'll do a touring schedule.

It is essentially a rebranded, revamped ROF, still based in the Midlands (Central British Isles) with the exact same product. I just copied the canon ROF entry and tweaked it to be open under a new name and logo, then switched the dojo from Privately Owned to being owned by Burning Spirit. Since I gave up on actually running it though, I left it in the database as a company that might randomly be opened, with British Samurai as potential owner/founder, with former ROF announcer Justin Blackham and former ROF referee Humphrey Woolsey as alternatives. Here's the description I came up with:

Despite the Japanese letters on its logo and a name that would fit a BHOTWG child promotion, Burning Spirit Pro Wrestling is actually run out of the UK Midlands. Inspired in equal parts by PSW's attempts to revive DAVE and the tradition of dojos like MAW and Hinote running shows to give their trainees some experience, BSPW utlizes a roster of graduates from British Samurai's Ring of Fire dojo. While not directly using any names or logos due to copyright issues and the threat of legal action from the 21CW juggernaut, Burning Spirit isn't shy of its identity as a nostalgia trip/modern revival of the UK strong style of wrestling that ROF was known for and hopes to make some money off that gap left in the market of the British Isles.

I'd love more details on how you're going to do this. Didn't think of potential founders, but Smith and Harker are an option. Another scenario I can think of is either Maeda or Yoshizawa moving to Canada in order to run WCG, while the other stays behind to continue with BCG.

Inspired by Japan's oldschool traditionalist promotion Black Canvas Grappling, White Canvas Grappling seeks to blend the traditional technical style of Canadian wrestling with a hearty dose of Japanese puroresu. The company is based on the country's west coast in order to make it easier for Japanese workers to fly in and hopefully home grown talent to tour Japan as well. WCG seek to exploit a gap they have located in the wrestling market north of the border as well as a huge pool of skilled in-ring talent, though whether they can stay in the market alongside giants like NOTBPW and CGC while not exactly offering a major alternative like 4C, ACPW or a hardcore promotion would, remains to be seen.

I've kicked around the idea of doing a diary where PGHW has expanded internationally as a way to compete with the money of BHOTWG and the Modern Japan movement. I'd be willing to give it a go with you and anyone else interested, based on this concept, though "touring" and "multiplayer" would be hard to juggle. An international alliance of smaller "no flash, no high flying, workrate oriented" promotions, COTT style, that looks like this:

BCG in Japan

WCG in Canada

UEW in Europe

Burning Spirit/ROF Revamped in the UK

My Favorites

1. SWF - While I am not a huge current day WWE fan, I grew up during the attitude era and loved it. Plus I enjoy playing Cult sized or above companies. SWF has some of my more favorite workers - Mikey Lau, Mainstream, Marshall, Steven Parker, Captain Atomic (I always make him heel and change his name to Duke Nukem), Jefferson Stardust, and Remo. And RIPW has some awesome talent (Spencer Spade and Scythe).

2. PGHW - I am terrible at booking touring companies and know nothing about Japan companies, but I just love the difference between PGHW and SWF, plus they have some awesome workers.

3. CGC - Pre-2016 (especially 1997), I like the DeColts because they have awesome entertainment stats and are still pretty good in the ring. They are fun to book the underdog promotion in Canada and try to build them up. 2010 is a great time because I can sign some awesome free agents (Champagne Lover) to help the future.

4. SNP - This is simply because the awesome rerender work of the people on the board. I hate hardcore promotions usually and SNP's roster isn't even all that good, but man they have awesome renders and I tend to push and enjoy games that my guys have good renders.

Least Favorite:

1. RAW - I have tried so hard to get into them, but something about them always makes me just quit.

2. USPW - Their aging workers plus I was not an 80s wrestling fan (I was born in 87). I much rather play SWF as owner and take the few talents they have away from them.

3. 21CW - I think this is purely because I have never played in Britain or Europe much so I do not know their workers much. They have a few cool guys, but, as with USPW I usually just steal them away with SWF lol.

4. Hardcore promotions - I just do not like the wrestling style so I cannot get into these promotions, except SNP lol.

Favorites:

1) BCG: To be honest this should be a one company list because I far and away love this company the most(but what fun would that be). I really enjoy the core roster and pushing the loyal guys with this company is just too much fun. My longest games are all related to this company and.....

2) MAW: These guys are a bit of a grind but I feel like that's true for all the companies I enjoy. The homegrown MAW guys have fallen off a bit from the previous versions of the game and I feel like that's what I like most about them. I almost always try and have The Architect, Wolfe, Fforde, DeMarcus, Gray, and The Dynamite Express at UM/ME by the end of the first year and have one of them win the Rip Chord by 2017.

3) CGC: This is nearly the only large company I actually enjoy booking. The DeColt's are easy to book so for me it's nearly everyone else I'm here for! Love booking Gargantuan and Prometheus and I love the babyface trio of Price, Dunn and Identity. Outside of the tag division this is nearly a perfect company to play as.

4) OLLIE: Just a fun company to book. There almost feels like no real end goal as it would take a very long time to even sniff the atmosphere that SOTBPW is in but Mexico as a territory is soooo deep and fun that even being the second biggest fish in this pond is a great time. You lose Montero, Mephisto, Extraordinario, and Lopez? Pick up Mitico, Blue Phantom, Chess Maniac, and Atlantis Jr. I could also roll off like 15 more dudes that are just free agents out there.....Mexico is so awesome in this game.

Honorable Mentions: NYCW, TCW, AAA

Least Favorite:

1) BHOTWG/USPW/SWF/SOTBPW: Basically all the giants. I just can't get into the challenge of being these companies. I've started a game with each company and have never made it beyond the two month mark.

2) EXODUS 2010: Mostly just based on having a large loyal base of workers that appear to be awesome and me not being able to use them as BCG(BCG should always be at war with the entire movement). They also have basically an infinite amount of Yakuza money so the company never goes out of business or gets to the point of being bought out.

3) RAW: A company that's what 40% in ring product? Nah, I'm good.

4) CZCW: I struggled a bit to figure out what to put here but I decided to just go with the company I have just literally no interest in. Nothing about them makes me want to play them and I never have. Outside of The American Cobras and Jaguar and Tigre I've never even used a single CZCW roster member with another company. I don't know if there is a single reason why I've never used them but here we are!

Dishonorable Mentions: GCG, NOTBPW, 5SSW

Favorites:

Well, I'm probably going to annoy or anger quite a bit of people here on the forums with this! I can't wait!!! <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Favorites

1 - USPW - My routine company, Though I usually take it ever so slightly forward out of the 80s, say WWE's Next Generation era or so forth.

2- TCW - My second choice of company. I enjoy making them perf=pop though I'm not a fan of Kyle Rhodes in the slightest.

3- CGC - It's a shame how Alex has lost his mind,IMO. I HATED and still dislike NOTBPW a great deal, that made me root for their rivals. A few diaries have really made this company shine.

Least Favorites

1 - Any Puroresu company - Mostly for running into certain fans IRL that vocally declare anything NOT Puro is utter and complete garbage. I just really don't see the appeal, I guess. *shrug*

2 - Garbage Wrestling companies - If I wanted to see someone use weapons I'd watch a Jackie Chan movie. Another style of wrestling that just does not appeal to me.

3- SOTBPW - I just can't STAND this company. A Majority of their stars are protected from poaching, but have no problems taking yours and they have the money to really make your contract negotiations hit ridiculous salary numbers.

Favorite:

1. GCG: It's a simple, easy to play product that gives you the ready-made experience of elevating a regional company to cult/national. Great starting roster, a legendary owner, and a strong alliance. A lot of history, prestige and ambition go into this promotion, and the talent pool for it is prolific.

2. GSW: I loved themed rosters! As a hip-hop head, I enjoy having a rap music themed roster. It is fairly limited for booking, and you have to tone down your expectations when setting objectives for the promotion, but the product, attitude and workers are great!

3. ZEN: Definitely recommend picking up ZEN if you haven't already. It's a fun, friendly roster, and has a good work-rate roster mixed in with a cute, lovable theme. I don't really care for 2016's CZCW or WLW, but ZEN is a perfect replacement for those two traditional high-flying, colorful promotions.

4. OLLIE: Similar to GCG, OLLIE has a lot of C'Verse history in the game, and it's definitely a fun promotion to book. If you want to book an ambitious, resurgent powerhouse, and don't like GCG's product, OLLIE is the best choice. The talent pool in Mexico is super deep despite SOTBPW's insistence on stockpiling talent it won't use, but you there are a lot of gems they won't touch. Plus COTT and a women's division make it one of the most well-rounded promotions to experience the full TEW game.

5. 21CW: I know SWF is supposed to be WWE, but 21CW probably replicates the experience the best. You have a near monopoly over the business in your local area, and have a diverse stockpile of awesome talent.

RIP Inspire: I LOVED Inspire. The roster was awesome, the idea was awesome, etc. Inoki-ism was insane, but man is it a fun concept to try to embrace in C'Verse. The diversity of the roster was also one of the highlights.

Least Favorite:

1. SOTBPW: Never bothered booking them, but aforementioned, they're notoriously the most obnoxious CPU. They stockpile talent, most that don't even belong in a lucha setting, and put on 5 star matches constantly. In my opinion, they need a bit of a nerf.

2. USPW: Basically everything you hate about WWE rolled into one promotion. Brutes, hacks and superman booking. You lose the national battle each time if you don't hire the king of brutes, hacks and supermen in Marat Khoklov. Plus, they're almost as annoying as SOTBPW when it comes to CPU, but also pretty useless at the same time.

3. NOTBPW: Bleh. DeColt, Bloodstone and Westybrook are interesting characters, but the roster and product are so jarring. Even an awesome women's division and some really neat young talent can't really get me into the promotion, which is a shame because the rosters are always stacked. There's nothing you can get from NOTBPW that you won't find booking TCW or PGHW.

4. IPW: Nemesis was once my favorite C'Verse character back when Poet was a wee 6th grader playing TEW 2005, but like NOTBPW, the roster is a convoluted mess. It seems more like a roster I'd scrape together on a Local to Global challenge than a canonical promotion. I like the talent, but GSW is much more fun to book.

5. PSW: PSW is very similar to IPW in respect to how random the roster is. There's almost no real hardcore talent aside from DaVE and TCW wash-ups. Instead, the roster seems to always be stacked with workrate pretty boys like Keith, Youngman, Parker, Campbell, Wolfsbaine, Ferrara etc...It lacks the grit of DaVE which is why I never enjoyed booking it as much. Most of the talent on that roster is really good, but don't seem canonically relevant to PSW's mission statement.

Companies I love

BSC - They are dead by 2016 of course, but in the available past C-Verse databases, there are so many directions you could take them. The initial concept of 'Vegas strippers attempting pro-wrestling despite lack of ability' is a great premise. If you want you could stick to that, or go other ways. Perhaps you could give promising female workers their start. Maybe you could even turn BSC into a more competitive environment while still selling the wrestlers' characters and good looks (which is actually pretty common in the real world anyway). BSC provides fun and variety

Inspire/TIER 1 - While shoot-style wrestling never took off in C-Verse the way it did in our world, Inspire is a pretty nice replica. I see TIER 1 as the spiritual successor in a way, with some differences. If Inspire is closer to UWF/RINGS, then TIER 1 is BattlARTS.

USPW - 1980s wrestling is great. Hulkamania ran wild for a reason, brother.

NYCW - A cool throwback to the territories. The product is simple but enjoyable. Very true to it's New York-ness. It's a good place for veterans about to ride into the sunset and young workers about to break out.

HGC/TCW 1997 - I think 'Hollyweird' is an incredibly stupid name that makes them sound bush-league. I chalk it up to JK Stallings being 16 and not knowing any better, then I wait for at least a year before changing it to TCW. That said, the company is very interesting in the '97 mod. Sam Strong and Rip Chord as the biggest -yet also oldest- stars of a fledgling company who wants to beat Richard Eisen at his own game. Beneath them, you got the likes of Vessey Brothers, Tyson Baine, and Jack Bruce still far away from fame. So many ways could to company go. Too bad canonically Tommy took over and made it a geek-fest <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Also, I never actually played SNP, but I love the premise of Mark Carnie being a huge scumbag who managed to fool people into giving him millions for his promotion.

Companies I don't care for

NOTBPW - Sleeping aid. The Stones are all nerds except Edd, that's why he isn't there anymore. Stupid, US-centric name. Have some pride in being Canadian, will you?

SOTBPW - Same problem with its stupid name. They're actually alright otherwise.

2016 Burning Hammer - The weight split is absolutely broken. Makes them hoard talent despite not that many of their juniors even raised to B popularity or above, and their shows usually aren't even that good. The whole thing doesn't even reflect reality as HW-JHW tag teams are actually common throughout history. Still, I have not played them for more than a week in TEW16 and most of my grievances came from AI decisions, so maybe I'll just turn it off next time.

IPW - Kinda look lame/half-asses compared to GSW. It's like they can't decide between wanting to stick to their roots or become more "serious".

SWF - Too much like the Attitude Era and I always had problem booking WWF in that time period. Just not very enjoyable.

I haven't really played a game long enough for any of them to break out yet, but my hope is they can one day revitalize CGC.

Hopefully with TEW2020 we get the option to tweak risk and content per match, or at least as a general average like match risk/intensity. The same "hardcore" match can be booked either WWE style (no DQ, no countouts and maybe a kendo stick spot) or as a CZW style bloodbath: same stipulation, different spots.

As a guy who loves resurrecting SCCW and booking them as I would book a revitalized Smokey Mountain Wrestling -- I completely respect and agree with that point of view. I hate having to clone match types so I can have a basic match.

Fav Five:

1. OLLIE - OLLIE 4 Lyfe, F*** SOTB, Gino the GOAT. But seriously, one of the best promotions to start your journey into the CVerse, a bunch of young talented guys and the third best women’s division (after AAA and 5SSW). COTT gives you a far larger roster than listed thanks to loans and trades, plus when you eventually tumble SOTBPW you feel like an immortal god.

2. TCW - Oh TCW, the love-hate relationship I have with you is endless. The only “Top 3” promotion I don’t wish goes bankrupt, but boy is it a graveyard, so many old dudes.

On the other hand, you get the real Tommy Cornell Jr. in Wolf Hawkins, so that’s nice.

3. WLW - This roster is very top heavy, but with Kobe and Angel you got everything you need, plus 10mil in the bank is always nice.

4. FCW - This one is more of a consolation favorite, because I raid them so much I feel they should get mentioned for how amazing their talent is. Kirk Jameson is bae.

5. BCG - What can I say? Their logo is awesome.

The Poop Five:

1. SWF - TCW 4 Lyfe, I wish the Eisens the worst.

2. USPW - Stupid Reverie, taking all my talent for a terrible product.

3. SOTBPW - I think this was established in my OLLIE entry, but damn is that roster amazing.

4. 21CW - I dunno, I just feel like they don’t deserve the popularity and they have like 2 relevant workers.

5. CGC - They once stole YUKI from me in a BCG save so they have my eternal hatred

I love RAW. You have a great roster for your product with multiple potential superstars. You've got several great potential signees waiting in the wings. You have zero competition for Australia and can essentially lock the continent down. Good times.

Also shout out to burning hammer.

Least favorite is USPW and NOTBPW, but they're not terrible.

1. TCW. Besides enjoying fighting from underneath, they have the roster of the US Big 3 that I like the most. Plus Phantom Stranger's 2008 TCW diary sold me heavily on a lot of the guys.

2. UEW. I haven't played them in a while, but they were the first company that I played a sustained game with, back in TEW 2008, my first one. I was pushing Beast Bantom pretty heavily before he got signed away by 21CW and I gave up.

3. SNP. I think they're hilarious. Haven't played them yet.

4. SWF. As the big dogs, or former big dogs, I gave them a shot a lot of the time, and a lot of diaries have helped me grow fond of the characters.

Hated

I don't really hate any promotions except BHOTWG and SOTBPW because they steal all my good workers, and that's not even real hate.
