<p>News - June 2027</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Richard%20Pennyworth%20III.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Well, hello there my faithful readers. Pennyworth here with my two cents on the recent happenings in the wider wrestling world.</p><p> </p><p>

First, the sad news. EMLL and MCOW's lead announcer Hector Moreno and long-time SWF stalwart Joe Sexy both passed on the same day; they were followed up just a couple weeks later by hardcore icon Johnny Martin. These obviously left some big holes in the independent scene; Martin's passing in particular left the dojo he owned without any active staff and it had to shut down. He also left IPW without a head booker, and a frantic search for someone to replace him.</p><p> </p><p>

Speaking of head bookers, W$W's own Vin Tanner, road agent extraordinare, has stepped away from his duties as the head booker of AAA. Rumour has it that James Justice is going to step into the role at IPW, and Jack DeColt taking over the booking for the ladies. It'll definitely be interesting to see where these companies go from here.</p><p> </p><p>

In other notes, the rollercoaster continues for the bigger companies. Per TotalExtremeWrestling.com, SWF and NOTBPW are both now considered cult companies rather than national; serious downgrades after both were promoted earlier in the year. Countering that, TCW is now considered a national company. Something tells me that these companies should get their houses in order. With even quicker bounces for a smaller company, SSWG did a similar up and down in the last couple months, being recognized as a regional company in April only to be downgraded to small in June.</p><p> </p><p>

On the home front, as we enter the home stretch before our season finale at The Closing Bell, we definitely have some interesting things going on. Word is that Matty Faith is still missing after being taken by the Dark Watch. Investigators have had no luck tracking him down, and none of the members of the Dark Watch have been seen since that moment. Your truly is looking forward to embarrassing Riley McManus in our rubber match. The Next Big Things look like exactly that; will Thunder & Lightning be able to handle them? And what of the new Blue Chip champion James Diaz? </p><p> </p><p>

Stay tuned, everyone. You never know what's going to happen next.</p>

Fresh off losing his Blue Chip Championship, Phantom comes out on fire. He take the fight to the much bigger Garofalo from the opening bell, and never lets up. He first works on the legs, dropping the big man to his knees, then taking to the air to finish the deal. Garofalo gets a couple bits of offense in, but when he succumbs to the Phantom Cradle, it feels inevitable.</p><p> </p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center"></p><p>

The first of two singles matches leading up to the championship belt, these two went out there and put on a hell of a show. Aroma outweights Thunder by 150 pounds or more, and was more than happy to use his size and strength advantage. He started out in control, tossing Thunder around the ring with ease. After nailing one giant powerbomb, he took the time to pose and play to the crowd. That proved to be a fatal mistake, as he turned around into a low blow that was hidden from the referee by his own bulk. Once the big man was down, Thunder started his own offensive explosion. After just a few minutes of this, he was amazingly able to hit Aroma with a Thunder Struck, and held on for the three count -- giving the champs their first promised victory of the night.</p><p> </p><p>

Henry says that if Slick causes him to lose his first match he'll regret it. Slick reminds Henry that he's the one man Henry was unable to defeat so far, and says that if Henry wants the win, he'll let him be in charge. These two have clashed numerous times in GWC, but this is the first time they've faced each other in W$W. The second of tonights tag team championship preview matches unfortunately showcases that Lindland and Lomas don't really work well together in singles competitions. Despite that, they were game and put on a decent match. Unlike the story of the earlier match that was basically the tale of two fights, in this one they went back and forth, neither man really seeming to get much of an advantage. In the end, Lindland would ruin the champ's promise when he hit the Phantom Driver for the pin, splitting the evenings series.</p><p> </p><p>

</div></p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center"></p><p>

This match was and ideal showcase for the triple threat match that's coming in two weeks. Slick and Henry showcased plenty of tension, tagging themselves in on multiple occasions. On the other hand, Reed and Savage showed plenty of teamwork, tagging in and out smoothly and with purpose. Due to both of these facctors, the champ and his partner slowly started taking control, eventually able to knock Slick out outside of the ring and double team Henry inside. Henry fought back with purpose, looking quite good in the process, but firmly being overwhelmed by the numbers advantage. Despite that, he kicks out of numerous near falls; he grabs the ropes for multiple submission attempts; in general, he makes Pure Savagery completely frustrated. Slick gets back to the corner just as Henry is temporarily able to drop both of his opponents, and there's a nice spot where Henry hesitates for a long moment, staring down at his future opponent. He turns his back, looking at Savage struggling to his feet, and then tags Slick into the match. Slick takes the tag and takes the fight to Savage and Reed, knocking both of them for a loop before finally nailing Savage with the Slick-Back. He goes for the cover, and Henry cuts off Reed allowing the 3-count to complete.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>To determine the Openweight Championship #1 Contender</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Tigre Salvaje makes his return to the ring after a couple months off with concussion symptoms, and shows a bit of ring rust from the onset of this match. With the big man Micheal Savage in the ring, Harvey and Rocky teamed up from the get-go to try to eliminate him from the matchup, but Salvaje kept getting in the way, taking hits he didn't need to take, and in general being a frustration to all of his opponents. That proved to be an advantage later in the match, however, as the others started ignoring his presence completely. That let him be relatively fresh later on in the match. While he sat out, Savage basically fought a 2-on-1 match, and looked good doing it. The 'fields worked fairly well together, eventually taking Savage out of the ring. As soon as he was out, however, they turned on each other rapidly, trading hard blows and suplexes in the center of the ring. Just as it looked like Weatherfield might be gaining the other hand, Salvaje chose to make his presence felt again, tossing Harvey out of the ring and going on an offensive tear of his own. He would come out of this standing solo in the ring -- only for Micheal Savage to get back in and use his far greater size and strength to just beat down the veteran luchadore. After a painful-looking beating at the hands of the big man, Savage would hit Salvaje with his finisher and go for the cover -- but both Harvey and Rocky make the save. Salvaje rolls to the corner while the other three go at it again. This time, Rocky is the first one dazed and tossed out, but Harvey manages to use the distraction to nail an Omega Driver on Savage. Before he can cover, however, the big man smartly rolls out of the ring. Frustrated, Harvey looks around, and spots Tigre Salvaje just coming to in the corner. He grabs the luchadore and nails him with an Omega Driver of his own, and that was enough to make the three count without interference.</p><p> </p><p>

The Dark Watch make their way to the ring to a chorus of boos, as the announcers ponder what could have happened to Matty Faith -- nobody has heard from him since his match with Aldous Blackfriar a month ago. Blackfriar, for his part, stalks the ring with a callous smirk. The boos turn to cheers as their opponents enter the ring, and Jackpot Jordan shows up in ring attire for the first time in over a year.</p><p> </p><p>

The match itself turns out to be pretty good, with Jordan getting a fair amount of offense to showcase his return. Hernandez and LeFleur take the lions share of time in the ring for the Dark Watch, being manhandled by the tag team veterans. That said, Blackfriar was the legal man, taking on Cameron Jones in the ring and doing a good job of frustrating him with delaying tactics when the lights went out suddenly. The video screen lit up to show Matty Faith somewhere in a dark room -- obviously tied up and being forced to watch something that the camera doesn't quite catch. When the lights come back on, Jones is obviously distracted, so he is unable to defend against the Batwing. Hellcat and LeFleur cut off the saves, and Blackfriar gets the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

Faith remains visible on the screen as Blackfriar grabs a microphone. Blackfriar reiterates everything he said at Public Relations -- the Dark Watch was created for a reason. The time is now upon us. And when the clock strikes 13, everything will be revealed. While he rants, Faith's struggles on screen grow weaker, and just at the end, he lets out a creepy little laugh -- then all the lights go out, including the video screen. When they come back on a little later, Blackfriar is nowhere to be seen, and the video screen remains dark.</p><p>

<strong>W$W Blue Chip Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Blue%20Chip.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

It becomes obvious fairly early in this match that Phantom has been studying up. He knows he's outsized and weaker than his opponent, and he uses stick and move action to keep Diaz off balance. Even better, he anticipates the champions reversals easily, switching tactics at just the right time to keep Diaz guessing. Things go swimmingly for a good seven or eight minutes before Diaz manages to connect with a wild right hand that sends Phantom reeling. Pressing his advantage, Diaz goes on the offensive, driving Phantom into the mat time and again with power moves. When he goes for the Asian Thumb Spike, however, Phantom reacts instantly with the perfect counter, and is able to take control again. This time, he is able to get a near fall that seemingly enrages Diaz. Before Phantom can get seperation, Diaz has grabbed and twisted Phantom's mask, making it so the other man cannot see. While Phantom tries to recover, Diaz rolls him up and grabs some tights for good measure, getting the three count.</p><p> </p><p>

The referee hasn't even given Diaz his title belt back yet, but Diaz is obviously not through with Phantom. He immediately yanks up the smaller man and hits him with the Asian Thumb Spike. Then he does it again...and then a third time. Already down and out, Phantom has no defense as Diaz grabs him by the mask and just whips him into the corner over and over again. Finally, Diaz settles on a series of vicious looking kicks to the exposed back of the smaller man. Finally convinced to back away, Diaz grabs his belt and stands victorious for a long moment before rolling out of the ring...only to come back in and lay out Blue Phantom with one more Asian Thumb Spike for good measure.</p><p> </p><p>

This match was supposed to be a technical masterpiece, designed to slow things down, bring the crowd down a little. To that end, it worked a little, but the crowd just didn't seem to care that much about what was going on in the ring. Despite that, Pennyworth and McManus performed a decent technical match, trading holds and suplexes beautifully for much of the match. In the end, an obviously fatigued Pennyworth got McManus up and locked into the Money Clip. Riley fought for nearly a minute, trying to get out, but in the end, had to tap and give the series to Pennyworth.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>W$W Tag Team Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Tag%20Team.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Getting the crowd right back into it, these two teams went out and put on a show. Back and forth action, isolating members of the opposite team, the hot tag, this match had it all. Thunder & Lightning would be in primary control for much of the match, working over Aroma from the opening bell. He was eventually able to tag in Lindland who cleaned house, causing the champions to regroup outside -- only to be double teamed and driven into the barriers outside the ring. Barely making it back in the ring before being counted out, Lomas was then worked on by TNBT for some time, but they were unable to put him away. He finally tagged in Thunder, who laid waste to the challengers. Miraculously recovered already, Lomas entered for a double team on Lindland, sending him outside the ring, and Aroma turned directly into a Thunder Struck, allowing Thunder to make the cover and earn a successful defense.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>W$W Openweight Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Openweight.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Triple Threat rules here for the title, first fall wins the title. All three men circle each other for a long while before Henry starts the action by locking up with Slick. Reed is content to stay back for a while and just ensure that any pin attempts are broken up. This goes on for some time before Slick and Henry get wise to his tactics and start to double-team the champion. Reed is able to get out of that situation by hitting a desperate move on Slick that sends him headfirst into the turnbuckle and out of the ring. Reed and Henry then lock up, wasting little time in trying to take each other down with giant moves. Henry would get the better of the exchange, prompting Reed to roll to the outside to catch his breath. This allows a recovered Slick to roll in the ring and start attacking Henry, eventually nailing him with the Slick-Back. Slick goes for the cover, but Reed breaks it up. Henry rolls to the outside while Slick and Reed fight back and forth, neither man truly getting enough of an advantage to go for the victory. This changes when Henry rolls in, nailing Slick with the Earthquake Powerslam out of nowhere. He is unable to even attempt a cover, though, as Reed is on him immediately, laying in lefts and rights. Henry covers up, and is starting to fight back...when the crowd starts reacting. Micheal Savage rolls into the ring and lays out Henry, despite Long's admonitions. In the announce booth, Emily McQueen crows about how smart Reed is being -- triple threat rules means no disqualification. There's nothing Long can to to end this match this way. The damage done, Savage rolls out and lets Reed make the cover. 1...2...KICKOUT! Reed and Savage are beside themselves. Reed picks up Henry to go for one more big move, but Henry makes him pay, landing an Earthquake Powerslam nearly out of instinct. He falls on top of Reed, and as Savage tries to make it back into the ring, Long counts to 3, giving us a new champion!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

I was hoping for a little better results, but apparently the road agent notes I used for the main event included an All-Out note. I don't even remember what I put. Normally on something like that I would have gone for the Slow Build, which could have handled it. Still, getting a C- on a 22 minute all-out match is pretty good, in my opinion.</p><p> </p><p>

Reed only gets one successful defense, but he just wasn't cutting it in the ring. He was the weak link in this match, and is rightfully going to drop out of the title picture.</p><p> </p><p>

And just what is going on with the Dark Watch? </p><p> </p><p>

--</p><p> </p><p>

Outside of the show, we've hit the half-way point of the year. And what is this? Dudberry Excess is the leading contender for wrestler of the year? What the what? It looks like he really took off in 2025, jumping from #40 to #3. He fell to #5 last year, and is leading for #1 now. Wow. I never would have guessed that. </p><p> </p><p>

Final note; going away from McGaw arena really helped. The extra 1200 people we packed in brought in $24,000 more, giving us a 5-digit profit this month (on a month where we spend extra anyway). This does bode well for the continued future.</p><p> </p><p>

Then he starts saying that even before he won this belt, a new number one contender had been named, and in two weeks he will be facing off against Harvey Robbinfield. A former champ, someone worthy of facing off against Henry. But, Henry says, that's not going to matter. Savage and Reed are both upset about their performances at The Closing Bell where they both lost their respective matches. They take this out on the hapless Caballeros, not quite dominating the matchup but certainly in firm control pretty much from bell to bell. Savage looked particularly good (which may be why he's going to spend some time in Japan soon), but it was Reed who hit Marcos with the Stealth Crusher for the pin.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>W$W Blue Chip Championship Match</strong></p><p>

It's been a while since Riley was in a title picture, and he gets a chance here to complete the Triple Crown. Diaz has been on a roll of late, however, and his vicious brawling seems to take McManus by surprise. Diaz takes control early, beating down McManus for quite some time before Riley is able to lock on an ankle lock to slow down Diaz's momentum. From there, the technical McManus takes over, seemingly wearing down Diaz. All it takes, though, is a single violent spear sending McManus crashing into the turnbuckle, and Diaz is back in control, which he retains until he hits the Asian Thumb Spike, cementing his victory.</p><p> </p><p>

Billed by Ditterich and McQueen as showcasing the future of the W$W Tag Team division, with a possible title shot it in for the winners, this match did a good job of showcasing all four men. Sanchez and Aroma are the two biggest competitors in W$W, and they certainly used their size to great results. Pennyworth and Lindland did a great job selling for the bigger guys, and when they faced off against each other still managed to look good and competitive. Eventually, Lindland was able to get Sanchez off his feet and into a variation of a kneebar (that he couldn't quite lock in) while Aroma basically bear hugged Pennyworth to keep him out of the ring until Sanchez tapped.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

A good show that did everything it needed to do. I'm a bit miffed, though. Jordan shatters his elbow, and is out for over a year. I keep him on the roster, and even bring him in as a manager, paying him for the entire year. He comes back, and before his second show, USPW snap him up. So of course, he does the job for me here today on his way out.</p><p> </p><p>

In other news, I'm noticing that I need some more faces, particularly in the tag team division. T&L, Pure Savagery, Bitch Slap, Riot Act, Money Talks -- they're all heels. The only face teams we have are Fame Express and The Next Big Things. I dunno what I'm going to do about it yet, but I've noticed.</p><p> </p><p>

Double count-out on the Last Man Standing, then a Cage match where they both escape together, then a Tables match where they both fall through a table together, etc... :p

An ok match that for quite some time looked like the Caballero's might pull off a victory. They had managed to isolate LaFleur and wear him down, and looked primed for the victory, even getting the cover when Blackfriar jumped up on the ring apron. This drew Long's attention and he didn't notice the pin, and allowed Hellcat to lay out Marcos and drag LaFleur to the corner. As Blackfriar dropped down, Hellcat makes the tag and goes to work on Jose. LaFleur recovers enough to help her with the Ancient Rites, and she covers for the three-count.</p><p> </p><p>

Shooting Star Perez comes out fast and furious in this, doing his best to throw Diaz off his game...and it works for about five minutes, as Perez slowly but surely wears the big man down. That is, until he waits for just one moment too long to continue the offensive, and Diaz rushes him and with a big shove, basically launches the smaller man into the turnbuckle back first. From there, Diaz is able to slow down the pace of the match, using his own patented slow methodical style to work Perez. The crowd ate this match up. Not much in the way of a storyline behind this, but Ditterich and McQueen did put over the fact that Allen and McManus had a small series for the Openweight championship in Allen's first run with the company. Allen and McManus put on a hell of a technical back and forth match that neither seemed to gain control of for very long. <strong>W$W Tag Team Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Tag%20Team.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

TNBT get another shot at the tag team championship, and obviously come out intending to make the most of it. Aroma dominates Thunder and Lomas for quite some time, and some quick tags from the challengers keep both of them fresh for a long part of the match. Thunder would make an attempt at a comeback, but the challengers were just too strong tonight...so when Lomas slid in a steel chair, Thunder didn't even hesitate before cracking it over the back of Aroma, forcing Long to call for the DQ.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>W$W Openweight Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Openweight.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

What a match. Seriously, these two men put everything on the line, going all out for the best match they could manage and doing it well. Their good chemistry certain didn't hurt either. The match started out with a quick flurry of back and forth offense that saw neither man get an advantage as they both countered or escaped from every move. Once they split apart, there was a good natured nod between the two of them and even a quick handshake before they went right back at it. From there, both took control for short periods, but neither man seemed to get enough of an advantage to press for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

That was when the lights went out. A spotlight illuminated Aldous Blackfriar at the top of the ramp. The bell tolled three times.</p><p> </p><p>

The lights came back on, and Henry was the first to react. Still recovering from the shock, Robbinfield fell victim to an Earthquake Powerslam. Henry covered for the 3.</p><p> </p><p>

At least one of these matches surprised me. I'll leave it up to you as to which one. But this was a really good show that continues setting up for the future. I definitely need to get some undercard stories moving, though. </p><p> </p><p>

Weatherfield's injury was a Cracked Tail Bone -- he'll be hampered for about a month, but can continue to work. I'll probably let him sit, as it should just be two shows. I did like the Weatherfield/CLM team, though -- I may have to try them out again.</p><p> </p><p>

Harvey Robbinfield makes his way to the ring. He talks about his title shot at Paying Dividends and said that he was robbed. Aldous Blackfriar and whatever BS he's got cooking up took his title shot away from him, and right here, right now, he is demanding another shot.

He is interrupted by Cali Slick. Slick enters the ring and reminds Robbinfield that he already called next. He didn't care so much about the title as being the man to defeat Henry, but since Henry still has the belt, Slick's not going to let someone else step in and steal the shot from him.

Just then, Roger Reed makes his way to the ring. He says that both Robbinfield and Slick need to take a step back. He lost the belt, sure, but he hasn't gotten a rematch for it, and it's time that he does. Henry never took the belt from him one-on-one, and if he ever faced him like that, Reed would win.

Then the champ's music hits and Ross Henry makes his way to the ring. He doesn't quite enter the ring, but says he's been listening to what they've all said, and they all have good points. Blackfriar interfered in the title match at Paying Dividends. Henry has never defeated Slick. Reed never got his one-on-one match. But the fact is, that they're all wanting to get what he has, and none of them are going to do it. But right here, tonight, he comes with news. W$W brass have been watching, and tonight we will see a tag match -- Reed and Slick taking on Robbinfield and Henry!

Well, apparently the argument was a good way to start the show. We had decided to get the crowd hot in this match, but they already were. Nevertheless, a decent match where Money Talks put on a clinic, slowly working down Idol, working on his neck, setting up for the final shot...but a momentary lapse by Pennyworth allowed Idol to get the hot tag, and Jones came in to clean house. Pennyworth was able to make a tag to Sanchez, but the big man didn't fare much better, eventually succumbing to the Fisherman's Suplex.

Reed and Slick started to make headway first, as Reed was able to knock Henry off the ring apron and start isolating Robbinfield. He and Slick worked back and forth on Robbinfield. As they did so, Slick would fight pretty standard, but Reed was making a point of using the ropes and shortcuts whenever he could. Once Henry was back and up, he made the hot tag, and took down both Reed and Slick fairly quickly. Slick was the legal man, and just working his way back up to his feet after a brutal shot from Henry when Reed nailed Henry with a steel chair behind the referee's back...but not behind Slick's back. He and Reed got into a shouting match, which resulted in Slick tagging Reed into the match, and then walking out, shaking his head as he went. Now in a glorified handicap match, Reed tried to take advantage of the hurt Henry, but he and Robbinfield were able to work well together to both recover, and the Earthquake Powerslam would seal the victory.

Final Thoughts

So...used Garofolo far too much. Despite him being in a 10-minute pre-show match only. Weird. Slick's turn went well; I've been building that for a while. Up for a last-man-standing match between two faces?

We split up the tag team champs and challengers again this month as TNBT try to 'earn' yet another shot at the champions. Lomas starts out lightning fast (pun intended?) with a surprise shot on the Aroma right at the bell that rocked the big man, and used the advantage he gained from that to good effect. Using his speed to his advantage, Lomas continued to lay leg shot after leg shot on the big man, driving him to the mat repeatedly. Every time he'd go for the cover, however, Aroma would kick out before even the two count. After four or five pinfall attempts, Lomas was obviously frustrated, and just stared out into the crowd for long moment trying to figure out a new game plan. That allowed Aroma time to roll to the outside and recover his wits. Lomas followed, only to be slammed into the ring steps. From there, Aroma would remain in control, getting Lomas back into the ring and using his power to land devastating looking shot after shot. Finally, the Cracked Facebreaker would drop Lomas to the ground, and Aroma would cover to get the three.

W$W Openweight Championship Match

Reed has talked a good game, and from the opening bell it looks like he intends to live up to it. He rushes at the champ instantly, and Henry is rocked back from the assault. Reed continues the all out attack for quite a while, getting numerous near falls out of it while Henry just looks completely overwhelmed.

But then, Henry seems to remember where and who he is. Reed's attacks suddenly seem to faze Henry less. He takes a full on punch like one that had rocked him earlier, and while his head turns, that seems to be about it. Henry clenches his fists with a cracking that seems to reverberate throughout the stadium, and the fight is on. This is no less than a brawl, and both men rely heavily on vicious looking punches and kicks as the main parts of their arsenal in this fight. Even when they delve into more traditional wrestling moves, it involves things like powerslams and powerbombs -- of which both champion and challenger eat more than one.

Both men are on wobbly legs when Henry finally lands the Earthquake Powerslam. Rather than a determined cover as he usually goes for, he sort of just falls forward with an arm over Reed. Nevertheless, Reed is unable to get a shoulder up, giving Henry the victory.

Final Thoughts

So yeah, a couple of run-ins tonight. I kind of liked the symmetry, but I would have liked it more if the two stories had anything to do with each other. It works, though. And if you're keeping track, Blackfriar's count should be ending at next month's Tri-State show, where it also looks like Slick-Henry II has been rescheduled to. Something's gotta give, right?

Oh, and I forgot to change Slick's gimmick after his turn. Didn't seem to hurt too much, but it was already stale.

The nominal number one contenders to the Tag Team championship are out here to put on a show, prove that they deserve that spot. Money Talks hasn't really been lighting things on fire lately, but try to give as good as they get. Sanchez and Aroma are of similar stature, negating oen big advantage that TNBT has, but that doesn't seem to help as they roll early. Showcasing some nice tag team skills, Aroma and Lindland weather a couple of flurries of offense from Sanchez and Pennyworth, and slowly start taking control.</p><p> </p><p>

Of course, that's when everything goes pear-shaped. Jason Thunder rushes the ring, getting in Lindland's face while Aroma was slamming Pennyworth to the ground in the ring. This draws referee Long's attention and ire (but not a DQ as Thunder never touched Lindland). And THAT gives Lightning Lomas the opportunity to jump out of the crowd, slide into the ring, and send Aroma to the mat with a brutal looking kick to the jaw. He rolls out of the ring, and Pennyworth is able to have the presence of mind to get Aroma off the mat and into the Money Clip. As Long turns around, Aroma is already tapping out.</p><p> </p><p>

As the bell rings, both teams keep both competitors in for a few moments, continuing the brawl from before. It takes Francis Long a couple minutes to establish order, finally getting the match started with CLM taking on Juana Huracan. From there, it's a back and forth affair, neither side truly getting much of an advantage, and working well together. The match finally ends with Weatherfield is able to absolutely plant Huracan with an Implant DDT, and CLM pulls Jarvis off the ring apron on the other side. That gave Weatherfield enough time to cover for the 3 and the victory. When they are announced as the winners, Weatherfield tells them to announce the team as High Octane.</p><p> </p><p>

</div></p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center"></p><p>

As this match starts out, Ditterich and McQueen talk about the fact that Savage is actually working in Japan tonight, so Reed is theoretically out here all alone tonight. A newly babyface Slick eats up the crowd's cheers, and it seems to give him an extra burst of energy. There is a lot of back and forth in this match, with Slick starting out in control for a long part of the match. He hits the Slick-Back, but Reed kicks out. Then he does it again. Reed comes alive and takes over after that moment. He throws Slick around for a bit, driving him into the turnbuckles repeatedly...but he isn't able to get a cover to stay for the full three count either. </p><p> </p><p>

The back and forth continues as the match spills outside of the ring. Reed is driven into the ringside barricade, giving Slick some breathing space to get back into the ring and catch his breath. Reed just barely gets back in the ring to beat the 10-count, and returns the favor by throwing Slick over the turnbuckle into the ring steps. Slick is almost in the ring at the 8 count when Reed lands a dropkick that sends him back out. Unfortunately for Reed, that causes Long to restart the count. Frustrated, Reed goes outside and slams Slick into the hard outside floor three or four times before rolling him back in the ring and following him. He goes for the cover, but Slick kicks out. As both men stand up, Slick finally hits a third Slick-Back...and this time, the cover lasts for the full three.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

There were moments I thought this show wasn't going to work, but it ended up ok in the end. Emily technically debuted her gimmick in this show -- that always seems weird to me that they can announce for years and their gimmick only comes out when they're actually in an angle. Two new tag teams. Neither have chemistry or anything, but it's something to help out the split. And a mistake when booking the 10 tolls...the game thought it was Blue Phantom. I don't know if that helped or hurt it.</p><p> </p><p>

In other news, Thelma Jo's contract is up. She's an ET, and my only negative influence, so I don't think I'm renewing it. We have too many people anyways. </p><p> </p><p>

And in OTHER news, I ended the show and had an email saying that USPW had offered California Love Machine a written contract. Awesome.</p><p> </p><p>

W$W Tag Team Championship Match

This was one of the hardest matches to book, to be honest. These two teams have had a decent program thus far, and this match, one way or the other, was going to be the deciding bout. And they put on a decent show...but the crowd was apparently over it, as this was the 4th time they had faced each other in recent months, and even as good as they were, it felt like there were a lot of retreads. In the end, though, Lomas would pick up the clean 3-count when he nailed Lindland with the Thunder Struck, cementing their reign as tag champs.

Last Man Standing match for the W$W Openweight Championship

http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Openweight.jpg

This turned out to be an amazing brawl between two men with everything on the line. While it started out a normal match in the ring, it soon spilled outside, with Slick being the first to go for a weapon--in this case a trash can lid. As the match continued, they battled all around the arena, going into the crowd on multiple occasions to get them involved. Henry at one point actually dumped a fan's beer all over Slick.

The match saw everything used. Tables. Chairs. A length of chain. A sledgehammer. The Openweight belt itself. But whenever one of the two would back off and have Long start counting, the other would be up before the count of 10, and often before the count of 5. Slick came the closest, having dropped the top half of the ringsteps on top of Henry while he was laying on the steps themselves. Slick backed away to the other side of the ring while Long counted...but Henry was up again at 8.

That's when everything seemed to break in both men. They just started tossing weapon after weapon into the ring, until you practically couldn't see the ring itself. Henry rolled in first, but Slick was right behind him, and both of them had chairs in their hands...and then the lights went out.

In the darkness the bells started tolling. The crowd counted along as the count reached 13...and nothing for a long moment. Then the lights came back up. When they did, Slick had a chain around his neck up against one of the ring ropes, the other end being held by Chad Ryland, who was leaning back from the floor. Aldous Blackfriar was there as well, holding him in an armbar and keeping the other hand away from the chain as well. In the other corner, James Diaz had Ross Henry immobilized on a table, both legs threaded through steel chairs...and Matty Faith at the top of the turnbuckle. To the roar of the crowd, Faith launched himself towards Henry, landing with a sickening thud. As Slick stops fighting, the four attackers extracate themselves from the wreckage and stand tall, soaking in the boos as Francis Long regrettably counts to 10, with neither legitimate competitor even stirring in that time.

Final Thoughts

So, last time, I remarked about how California Love Machine was sniped by USPW. He's now gone, but it looks like Jake Idol will be leaving as well. Figures, I try to get some face teams going, and I lose one of the ones I DO have.

This ends the bells, the establishment of a new stable. More to come on that, but I really liked the way this turned out. Unfortunately, I hadn't set Faith to turn for that whole time, going under the assumption that his appearance in the vignettes up to this point he was still looking like he was fighting. So, he'd only had 3 segments of 'build-up', and the game considered this a shock turn which didn't go very well because I'd had too many of them. Which makes me wonder just how many segments it takes to build up to it...because Slick's the only other real turn I've had lately, and he had a goood 11 or 12 segments of buildup.

Final Rating: C

Damn, didn't see the other additions to Blackfriar's stable coming!

If you'd paid attention, most of the bells tolling were either before or after Diaz/Ryland. Not all, certainly, but I tried to get as many tied to them as possible.

It was almost Robbinfield instead of Ryland though; pre-diary, he'd been kidnapped very briefly by Blackfriar as well. But that felt like 3 top-tier and one undercard guy. I was aiming for more of an Evolution style -- two top guys to midcards to build up with them.

Blackfriar and his crew make their way to the ring to the boos of the crowd. Blackfriar, Faith, Diaz, and Ryland stand on the four turnbuckles, posing for the crowd while Hernandez and LeFleur stand in the center of the ring. After a while, they all get down, and Blackfriar gets a microphone.</p><p> </p><p>

"I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. I've gone from promotion to promotion, called to find this group right here. Every time I thought I might have it, but there was always something missing. Some significant piece that just didn't line up. So I'd move on. I was beginning to think that W$W wouldn't have it either, but thanks to Hernandez and LeFleur, I was able to find that last missing piece. My appreciation for everything the two of you have done is immense. BUT...the Dark Watch is over. It's purpose served, it is time for you two to move on. My appreciation has it's limits, and right now, it's all that's keeping me from destroying you too fools. Get out of my ring."</p><p> </p><p>

Hernandez and LeFleur give each other one silent, significant look. Then, as one, they roll out of the ring and back up the entrance ramp, and out of the ringside area.</p><p> </p><p>

"That's better. Now, you just saw what this quartet can accomplish. So allow me to introduce you to W$W's very own members of the Apocalypse. First of all, the current W$W Blue Chip Champion, just the first of many championships this group will gain, the beast of the pit, the man who cannot be stopped, the soldier of soldiers...WAR DIAZ!"</p><p> </p><p>

"Next, the man who has never bothered to hide the demon within, and now has agreed to let it loose here in W$W, our very own PLAGUE RYLAND!"</p><p> </p><p>

"And of course, you know our next rider, but his fall from grace has been dramatic, to say the least. He has been pulled kicking and screaming to the dark side, but now that he's here, be sure he's hear to stay. No longer Matty, allow me to introduce to you, FAMINE FAITH!"</p><p> </p><p>

"As for myself, the leader of this band of miscreants, you all know who I am. But Aldous Blackfriar is no more. And I don't represent only death, no sir. Everything must end. All must die. I am the very aspect of DESTRUCTION!"</p><p> </p><p>

"So with that, I believe Famine has a match scheduled for this evening. So why don't we get Apocalypse's next victim out here. You folks here have seen all you deserve to see from us tonight."</p><p>

The match itself is pretty decent, though Pennyworth was outwrestling every other man in the ring. In the end, it wasn't even surprising when he locked the Money Clip onto Marcos for the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

This match is nearly all Allen, as she outwrestles the young Windham from the opening bell. He is tied in knots that he just barely manages to escape from time and again. He does eventually manage to get some offense after reversing a figure-four lock for a while, but Allen doesn't take long to recover and start controlling the match again. And that's when Riley McManus' music hit and the man himself stepped out on stage. Allen started yelling at him, taking her eyes off her opponent. Windham grabbed her in a quick rollup, and held on *just* long enough for the 3 count. Windham rolls out of the ring celebrating the win while Allen stares in shock.</p><p> </p><p>

With California Love Machine no longer with W$W, and Micheal Savage currently working in Japan, these two men are on their own today. Neither of them really have a story going on right now, and the announcers use the match to continue discussing ramifications of the events of today. Rocky and Roger almost seem to take that as a slight, and put on one hell of a match, telling an amazing story in the ring. Both of them pause on occasion to preen to the crowd and try to put over their championship credentials, but are right back to the action. </p><p> </p><p>

After about fifteen minutes, maybe a bit more, the match seems to kick into high gear. Both men start going for their big moves, but the back and forth has left both exhuasted, and attempted covers meet with failure almost every time. Even when the finish does come, after Weatherfield absolutely plants Reed with the Implant DDT, he takes so long to make the cover that Reed is able to kick out -- but it was just a moment too late, and the third slap of the mat had already fallen. With almost no energy left, both men just find their own corner for a long moment before the post-match is able to occur with Weatherfield celebrating the victory.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

Not sure I know what to think about this show. Had some of the best ratings I've seen, and some of the worst. That was on hell of a main event, and the Slick/Henry angle I think is the first straight B I've seen. On the other hand, the video recap to start the show was so poor -- I think because I had all 8 featured (Apocalypse, Dark Watch, Henry, and Slick) rated on overness. But...still one of our better shows nonetheless.</p><p> </p><p>

Oh, and also, credit to Metallica for the lyrics from "For Whom the Bell Tolls"...I think it fits as a theme for Apocalypse.</p><p> </p><p>

Good match to start off that manages to both showcase War Diaz' strength and skill while not making it a complete one-sided match. </td><td valign="top" align="center">

Ten people fill the ring at the start of the match, including three of W$W's biggest in Garofalo, Sanchez, and Aroma. The rest of the competitors seem to realize that this is a huge threat, and the match starts out with each of these three being double or triple teamed. Garofalo is ganged up on by the odd tandem of Blue Phantom and Roger Reed, and the combination of speed and technique quickly overwhelms him, and he is knocked over the top rope that Reed holds down with a picture-perfect dropkick from Phantom.

Jarvis and Hernandez, meanwhile, had teamed up to try to take out Mike Aroma, but the big man is able to fight them off. After he throws both of them basically across the entire ring, he starts wading through competitors to try to get at Sanchez. Hernandez and Jarvis give each other a look, seemingly agreeing to get back into the fray. Hernandez steps forward first, and that proves to be a mistake, as Jarvis whips her over the top rope as soon as her back is turned.

Aroma reached Sanchez, and the two big men face off in the middle of the ring as the rest of the competitors back away to let the behemoths fight. The trade vicious looking blows, repeatedly bouncing off the ropes to gain momentum. It's Aroma that first follows up on the retreating Sanchez and with a huge clothesline, he sends Sanchez over the top rope...but Sanchez locks on to his arm, and pulls the other big man down to the floor with him, eliminating both. Almost as soon as they hit the ground, Marcos Caballero hits on the other side, blindsided by Jillian Jarvis.

Down to five, and with the big men now out of the competition, things start to heat up. Reed and Phantom's cooperation is long gone as the two of them start to trade blows while Jarvis and Faith are working together on McManus. That proves to be short lived, as once they drop McManus to the mat, they turn on each other. McManus is slow to get to his feet, but when he does, he is in prime position to springboard Reed to the outside. Reed almost saves himself, but a bounce on the ropes on the other side of the ring causes him to lose his grip and he is eliminated.

The pair-ups have rotated slightly now, and Jarvis and Blue Phantom are working on each other. Phantom seems to be getting the best of it, and has Jarvis down on the ground...but he foolishly climbs the turnbuckle for a high-risk move, and she lunges at him. He tumbles off the top rope and to the outside. She turns around with a smirk, but Faith is right there, and an easy whip brings us down to the final two.

Faith and McManus face off, and get into a good wrestling bout for a while before they seem to remember that they're trying to knock each other out of the ring, and the grappling moves to the ropes. McManus gets Faith to the outside first, and looks like be in good position to claim victory...but his dropkick attempt misses and Faith pulls him over the top rope. With both men on the apron, they trade blows back and forth for a long moment, both of them teasing falling...but it is Faith that finally hits the telling blow, a powerful right hand that drops McManus to the floor and giving Famine Faith the victory for Apocalypse.

He is interrupted by Rocky Weatherfield. Weatherfield says that just because he's had a bell ringing so many times lately doesn't mean he's the top dog...and doesn't allow him to just proclaim himself as the #1 contender.

Destruction says that's true--it's his skill and belief that should make him the number one contender -- and if Weatherfield cares to see it for himself, they can meet in the ring tonight.

As the competitors make their way to the ring for the second battle royal of the night, the announcers use the opportunity to talk about the unique situtation that Plague Ryland now finds himself in -- his team is already in the tag title match, so he has less pressure on to win, but if he loses, then that tag match becomes a triple threat.

The story of this match is far different than the last -- there are no real big men in this match, so nobody really other than maybe Ryland to target. That perhaps changes at the opening bell when Patrick Lindland charges across the ring and with a vicious lariat sends Jose Caballero tumbling to the floor of the ringside instantly. Jose is stunned, but he is eliminated, and then the match starts in earnest. Silencer is the second eliminated when Amber Allen catches him with a release german that fetches him up on the top rope, and he rolls over and to the floor instinctively.

Ryland has been fighting off numerous other contenders from the opening flurry, most notably from Marcel LeFleur. He seems to be a little miffed over the treatment of the Dark Watch by Apocalypse, and has been all over Ryland from the get go. Sadly for him and the Hellcat, Ryland would eventually get the better of the exchange, and LeFleur hits the ground hard after Plague powerlifts him over the top and just drops him to the outside.

After that, there is a bit of a lull in the eliminations, as the remaining competitors try to wear each other down slowly but surely. All of them show skill in both remaining in the ring and beating on the others; it's Pennyworth who is the next to score an elimination when he uses a fireman's carry toss to send Duane Windham out of the ring. A respectable showing for the young man, but an elimination nonetheless.

Down to six in the ring, Lindland seems to go on the warpath. He is the one to finally corner Plague Ryland, and unceremoniously dumps him on the outside. This ensures a triple threat match for the tag championship, as the announcers remind us. Lindland isn't done, though, and he turns on Micheal Savage. Savage has been doing well, but hasn't eliminated anyone yet -- and he won't, as Lindland gives him the heave-ho with ease.

Down to the final four, Lindland still looks strong, driving Allen to the mat before turning to the other two. Huracan and Pennyworth were facing off, and Pennyworth scores the elimination as he tosses her out. Unfortunately, after tossing her out, Pennyworth has his back to Lindland, and Patrick makes his fourth elimination of the match.

This doesn't sit well with Pennyworth, however, and he climbs back up on the ring apron to yell at Lindland. The two of them get in each others faces jawing at each other. In the meantime, however, Allen has recovered, and she sneaks up behind Lindland...and grabs his legs to toss him out. He makes a desperate grab at the ropes, but is unable to save himself, and Allen has the victory, ensuring a place in the tag title match for herself and Riley McManus.

Yessss. This is a nice slow-build match that shows some good chemistry and very fun action. Lots of back and forth and many near falls abound through the first half of the match. Things start to pick up after about fifteen minutes and look much more brutal. They both start throwing blows that look violently painful, and the selling is amazing. Robbinfield starts to take control, and looks to have the match in the bag, but no matter how many times he goes for the pin, Henry kicks out. After about five of these, Henry manages to hit a desperation spear that leaves both men gasping for air one the ground.

They get back up on wobbly legs and start trading punches, to the crowd's reaction. After a few back and forth, Henry takes control back with another spear. A couple more vicious blows, and he hits the Earthquake Powerslam. He collapses on top of Robbinfield, and this is enough for the victory.

Then, Cali Slick rushes the ring. He drives Plague out of the ring first before turning and going for Destruction. He lets go of the hold and rolls out of the ring before the attack can land. Slick helps Henry to his feet, and the two of them stand back to back as Destruction calls for the title belt.

Final Thoughts

This was a very good show. Four matches of C+ or better. An angle to end the show that didn't bomb. Setting up a triple threat match for the tag team championship. Obviously, there's some work to do with Riley and Amber to get them on the same page.

Hellcat and LeFleur are both still heels, but have changed gimmicks away from Acolyte to Bad Ass and Pure Athlete respectively. I haven't renamed their team, or even decided if they're going to stay a team, yet...but I needed a tenth team, so they fit.

Final Rating: B-
