The announcers put over the fact that these two teams got the better of each other in the battle royals at Expected Earnings, and both sides requested this match. Things start out brutal, and degrade from there. Sanchez and Aroma battle back and forth with brutal strikes. Pennyworth and Lindland hammer it out outside of the ring. Poor Francis Long continually has to send one man or another back to their corner, and around the twelve minute mark it all breaks down. All four men end up in the ring, raining attacks down on one another. When the steel chair is added to the ring (by Lisa Bowen, the announcers think), he has no choice but to call for the bell and end the bout.

Rocky deserves better than he gets from me. He never has a bad match, and even those with almost no implications get the crowd humming. In this case, he works a beauty with Savage that makes the crowd stand up, and makes Savage look really good in the process. The brutal attacks from the heel are sold hard by Rocky, and Savage looks absolutely devastating. So when Rocky is finally able to reverse the momentum, the crowd goes wild. The Implant DDT a minute or so later seals the deal, as Savage cannot get his shoulder off the mat.

Interestingly, this is the first time teaming together for either of the #1 contending teams. This allows the announcers to focus on chemistry for the duration of the match -- chemistry that is easy for everyone in the arena to note. For McManus and Allen, the chemistry was positive, and they seemed to know exactly what the other was thinking at every moment of the match. For Famine and Plague...not so much. Their timing was all off, attempted double teams just didn't work out, and a couple attempted tags went awry when the partner was playing to the audience instead of waiting for the tag. Despite that, though, Apocalypse managed to look decent, with Famine Faith easily maintaining control over whichever of his opponents were in the ring at the time. When he was finally forced to tag out, Plague was looking fairly good as well.

And that's when everything went sideways. The crowd started humming as Thunder & Lightning came through the audience. Amber Allen, waiting on the apron, saw them coming and drew Francis Long's attention. Plague had just nailed McManus with a devastating cutter leaving him down and out. Lomas and Thunder slid into the ring, hit the Thunderstroke on Plague, and knocked Famine off the apron on their way out. McManus came to first, locked on a simple armbar, and Plague tapped.

Final Thoughts

So, yeah. Faith and Ryland "don't work well", but McManus & Allen have great chemistry. That sort of works for where I'm taking things, but this is a lesson in testing your teams before you put them in title matches.

The show starts off with a bang as the W$W Openweight Championship is on the line. The match starts out fast and furious, with Destruction rushing at the champion and getting him to the mat early. Henry blunts that offense relatively quickly, however, and starts to take control. But before he is able to gain any momentum or get on a roll, War Diaz rolls in the ring with a steel chair and brings it crashing on the back of the champ, forcing the ref to call for the bell.</p><p> </p><p>

Destruction takes charge as he and War lay boots to the fallen champion. Diaz nails Henry with the steel chair multiple times while Destruction eggs him on, to the point that the chair is obviously bent and destroyed. Destruction rolls out of the ring to slide another chair in...and Cali Slick charges the ring. He slides under the bottom rope and immediately drops War with a Slick Back. Slick is the one to grab the new chair, and he uses it to swing at Destruction. War rolls out of the ring and is helped up by Destruction as Apocalypse backs up the ramp. As they disappear, the announcers note that they have just been told that we will see Destruction and War taking on Henry and Slick in the main event tonight.</p><p>

Sanchez got his licks in, and Lindland made it look painful. Lindland started to come back once, but Sanchez beat him back down. Then again. <strong>W$W Tag Team Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Tag%20Team.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Once again, the poor chemistry between Apocalypse teammates comes into play, but it doesn't seem to hurt the match that much. This is a good match, with two teams legal at all times, the team on the outside needing to tag in to have a chance to win. Jason Thunder starts the match against Plague Ryland, and at the bell, things go crazy. Blind tags abound as each team tries to enter the ring to be legal whenever they are on the outside. Lomas gets the first near fall, nearly pinning Famine Faith relatively early in the match, but Allen breaks it up. That sets the tone for most of the rest of the match -- whenever a pin or submission was attempted, it was broken up nearly before the one count could occur. </p><p> </p><p>

The end comes when Lomas and Faith had taken each other out on the outside of the ring, neither man stirring. McManus had taken a hard blow to the head from Lomas earlier, and while he was at the turnbuckle, he wasn't really effective. In the ring, Allen nails Jason Thunder with a Northern Lights Suplex, holding on. Plague was checking on his partner, and didn't notice the pinfall attempt at first. The ref counted 1..2...Plague rushes in, but the hand comes down for the 3 count before he gets there, and we have new champions!</p><p> </p><p>

Huracan answers Rocky's challenge, and the two of them square off in the center of the ring. What follows is a decent grappling match, going mostly old school but with some fun high-flying mixed in for good measure. Weatherfield slowly starts blunting Juana's offense and looks to be about ready to get the win when Jillian Jarvis rushes the ring. He tries to get both of them in view, but they do a good job of splitting his concentration, and eventually Juana grabs him in the Time-Square Lock right in the center of the ring. Weatherfield fights it for over a minute with Jarvis taunting him from outside, but eventually has to tap.</p><p> </p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center"></p><p>

The make-up match from earlier in the night featured some great wrestling, as these four men left nothing behind. This was a back and forth affair with some great spots. Henry came out looking particularly strong, getting near falls on both Destruction and War multiple times. Everyone in the match, though, had their opportunities to look good and get some near falls, the closest being when Destruction caught Slick in a schoolboy while War and Henry were battling outside the ring. Slick was just able to catch the rope, however, which Long just barely saw and stopped the count a fraction before the three.</p><p> </p><p>

The end of this affair came a few minutes later. War was being forced out of the ring by Long after a tag to Destruction, allowing Destruction to level Slick with a low blow. Destruction waited for War to get out of the ring before he closed in and applied the Doomweaver Clutch. Henry tried to break it up, but War was quicker to the punch, and took him down as well...and Slick tapped away Henry's undefeated streak to the amazement and shock of the announcers.</p><p> </p><p>

W$W Openweight Championship Match

http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Openweight.jpg

Holy Crap. New England gots themselves a show tonight. Henry and Destruction put everything on the line, and this match delivers in spades. A solid back and forth affair in which Destruction came oh-so-close to winning on multiple occasions. Similarly, Henry hit the Earthquake Powerslam on Destruction not once, not twice, but three times, and Destruction kicks out of every pin attempt. The end finally came when Destruction had locked in the Gloomweaver Clutch, but in the ropes. When Francis Long finally got him to break the hold, Destruction fell out of the ring. Henry followed, and sent him crashing into the ring steps and barricades; one of the throws had an awkward-looking landing. Destruction tries to stand but couldn't manage it, his ankle completely unable to support his weight. After he tries a couple times, Francis Long checks on him, then ends the match.

So, some damned good matches here. Sadly, this will be Aldous' last match with W$W for some time, as he has signed with SWF. Time to rework my planned storylines. Similarly, Robbinfield is probably leaving. He hasn't signed yet, but SWF has offered him a contract, so it's likely inevitable.

<p>Gutted about Aldous! I know this is probably your plan anyway, but I'd definitely like to see the story develop that, while he now has a loss on his record, Henry still hasn't been defeated, technically. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

A pretty decent match, though Garofalo brought it down a bit with his haplessness in the ring. McManus and Allen showed some good chemistry, working together for the victory. The match is over, and Allen shows signs of frustration. She brings a steel chair into the ring, obviously intending to lay some additional hurt onto the losers. McManus gets in her way, and talks her down quietly. After a minute or so, Allen drops the chair, and the tag champs walk up the ramp together.</p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center"></p><p>

From the start of this match, Weatherfield put action to his words, and took the fight to the tag team. For good portions of the match, all the offense was coming from the solo competitor, and he got a number of near falls. Each time he went for the pinfall or submission attempt, however, the other member of Bitch Slap was right there to make the save. That forced Weatherfield to switch gears and try to take one of them out of the match, but he wasn't able to get either of them down long enough. But they weren't able to get him down for the count either, at least until they started abusing the five-count and double-teaming Weatherfield incessently. The numbers game eventually caught up to him, and Jarvis was able to lock him into the Lockdown Choke Sleeper. Huracan taunted him from the ropes that he was just barely unable to reach (pulling it away briefly at one point). Weatherfield eventually had no choice but to tap out.</p><p> </p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center"></p><p>

Representing Apocalypse, Famine comes to the ring with fire in his eyes. He starts out strong and throws Robbinfield all over the ring, but eventually he starts to tire. Harvey is able to take control back, and slowly but surely starts to look like he's going to win. Famine does get in some more offense, but when he goes for a Leap of Faith at one point, Harvey is able to dodge out of the way. Robbinfield goes for the cover...but Faith rolls him up. Harvey should be able to get the kickout, but Famine reaches over and grabs the bottom rope behind Francis Long's back, and that gives him enough leverage to claim victory. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>W$W Openweight Championship Match</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Openweight.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

Lindland gets a surprise championship match here; the announcers say that Henry was impressed by TNBT's recent tag team performance and with other challengers dispensed with wanted to give him a shot. This was a good match that saw Lindland in control to everyone's surprise. Emily McQueen started talking about how Henry's confidence was shot after his recent loss, and we were going to start seeing the cracks in the champ -- and for a long time it looked like she might be prophetic. That's not to say Henry didn't get his offense in, but Lindland seemed to be in control for much of the match. At least until Money Talks' music played, and Lisa Bowen stepped out onto the ramp. She pulled down her sunglasses and stared at Lindland, who started looking around for her clients. The distraction was all it took for Henry to recover, and a quick Earthquake Powerslam later, he made the cover and retained the title.</p><p> </p><p>

After the match, Henry rests on the top rope with his belt over his shoulder. He's handed a microphone. He says that this match tonight, regardless of how he earned the victory, proves that he still has what it takes. He doesn't take his eye off the prize. He says that next month there is the Buy-In Tournament, and whoever wins, just like he did last year, gets a shot at him. He name drops a number of probable competitors, including Famine Faith, Cali Slick, War Diaz, Riley McManus, Amber Allen, Richard Pennyworth III, and Juana Huracan. He says that it doesn't matter which of them win, or someone off the street -- it doesn't matter because in the end, there's only going to be one victor. One person holding the Openweight Championship -- and that person is Ross Henry.</p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

So, like an idiot, I never put Lisa Bowen in the storyline. I should do that. Harvey gives me one last great match, snuck in because this month's show runs earlier than the other months. War and Plague don't have negative chemistry, so if I don't replace Blackfriar, they may end up being Apocalypse's tag team. And Weatherfield does the job, contrary to my initial plans, because he's leaving (I got the email saying he'd signed with SOTBPW right after I finished this show).</p><p> </p><p>

And thus ends the first year of the diary. Thanks everyone for sticking with it. I'll look to get a year-end update in soon.</p><p>

Buy-In Tournament 2028 Preview!

http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Richard%20Pennyworth%20III.jpg

It's an exciting time in W$W as the Buy-In Tournament will take place over the course of this month, culminating at IPO 2028. Before we announce this years contenders, however, we here at W$W would like to take a moment to honor a pair of legends in this business who have recently passed. Here in the USA, we pay tribute to the great Professor Nero, a man who inspired generations of wrestlers. Over in Japan, the owner of BHOTWG Kaneie Komina has passed, leaving that great company in a dangerous situation.

And now for the tournament. For the first time this year, W$W has invited some competitors who are not members of the active roster to compete. We hope that when the arrive in the W$W ring, our fans will welcome them appropriately. This years tournament will include the following:

Representing CILL and EMLL: California Kid!

Representing BCG, and the current Capeonato del Mundo EMLL: Harumi Asano!

The current L-Ring Heavyweight Champion: Mateo Deleon!

<strong>Ross Henry</strong></p><p></p><p>

</td><td valign="top" align="center" width="965"></p><p></p><p>

Henry makes his way to the ring. He talks about the Buy-In Tournament, and how about there are many worthy competitors. He says that regardless of who wins, though, it's a moot point, as he, Ross Henry, will remain your Openweight Champion. He's defeated all comers in this company, and that's not going to change anytime soon.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

He's interrupted by music that is vaguely familiar...reminiscent of, but legally distinct from his theme music in other companies...this man enters the arena.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

<img src="<a href="<a href="http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Workers/Rich" rel="external nofollow">http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Workers/Rich"</a> rel="external nofollow"><a href="http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Workers/Rich" rel="external nofollow">http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Workers/Rich</a></a> Money.jpg" height="100" width="100"></p><p> </p><p></p><p>

The newcomer walks to the ring, taking a microphone. He says that just in case there are any newborns in the audience, HE is Rich Money. And for the last decade, give or take, he's been THE money behind Wall Street Wrestling. He's been content to let this company thrive or fail on it's own merits...but it's boring just sitting at home now that he isn't an active competitor. So he's been paying more attention. And this company...well...it's boring. We have an Openweight Champion who's gone through basically the entire roster and beaten them all. And that didn't sit well with Money. So, he's sought out some of the best in the rest of the world and brought them in for this years tournaments. Orton. Deleo. California Kid. Harumi Asano. But that's not all. Because the champ is right -- he's defeated everyone. So tonight, one of these newcomers gets a shot at the champ. If HE wins, then he becomes champ, and Henry has to fight his way through the tournament instead. Oh...and that match starts right now.</p><p></p><p>

Mateo Deleon is here as the L-Ring Heavyweight Champion, a fact that announcers talk about briefly, but he is here without his belt. He puts on a good show walking to the ring, and the crowd eat it up. When the bell rings, however...it's all Henry. At the opening bell, Henry hits Deleon with an Earthquake Powerlsam, rocking the outsider. From there, Henry is thorough in his dismantling of Deleon, though he takes his time to play up to the crowd a bit. Finally, he hits a second Earthquake Powerslam, and this time he covers for the three.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

A singles match for the tag team champ who isn't entered into this years tournament. The announcers put this over as a potential preview of a future tag title match, and these two put on a good show. Plague hits all the right spots, with McManus taking them on the chin as needed. Finally, McManus gets the opening he needs and sends Plague into the barrier outside the ring with a body drop. He takes a moment to catch his breath, and goes to follow Plague outside the ring...and that's when Famine Faith makes his way to ringside. He doesn't do anything but stare at McManus, but it's enough to make him hestitate to get out of the ring. Plague recovers and circles the ring to roll in behind McManus while he's still focused on Famine. McManus finds himself the victim of the Fusion Destroyer before he realizes it, and that's enough for Plague to get the duke.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

As soon as the bell rings, Famine Faith has rolled into the ring, and he and Plague start beating down on McManus. He tries to fight back, but is quickly overwhelmed. The fight spills out of the ring, where McManus is driven into the ringside barrier. That's when the crowd goes wild, and Amber Allen rushes to the ring. She lays out Plague and turns on Famine, who has rolled back into the ring. Famine doesn't wait around, and as soon as the bell rings, starts in on the newcomer California Kid. He beats him down hard, eventually leaving Kid gasping for air from a series of hard blows. But, Famine takes the time to play to the crowd, posing on the turnbuckles letting Kid recover. California Kid hits a sneaky rollup, and nearly gets the pinfall, but Famine kicks out. From there, there's a series of back and forth moves that do a decent job of getting the crowd into it, and it ends finally with California Kid down on the ground. Famine stares down his opponent, then climbs the turnbuckles. A moment later, he hits the Leap of Faith, and holds on for the pinfall. He gives Kid one final kick for good measure as he rolls out of the ring to celebrate his victory.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

<strong>First Round Matchup in the Buy-In Tournament</strong></p><p> </p><p></p><p>

Savage was the runner up in this tournament last year, falling short only due to Ross Henry's continued undefeated streak. He looks to better that result this year, but standing in his way is the big Mike Aroma. These two brutes just look dangerous, and when the bell rings they fall on each other with a vengeance. For quite some time, nobody seems to get much of an advantage; repeated attempts at shoulder tackles result in both men standing. A test of strength goes nowhere. They trade punches in the middle of the ring, and the end result is both of them lying on their backs staring at the ceiling. In short, this match is a brutal-looking brawl from end to end. Eventually, Savage is able to string a few moves together, and appears to be getting set to take it home...but Aroma shows some surprising agility and gets a go behind, and follows it up with a Cracked Facebuster. <strong>First Round Matchup in the Buy-In Tournament</strong></p><p> </p><p></p><p>

Juana Huracan is the only former winner of this tournament in this years field, as only she and Henry remain in W$W from former winners. Slick is the historically top Blue Chip champion in W$W history (though don't let War Diaz hear you say that). The two of them also showcase some pretty good chemistry. The result is a pretty decent matchup. Huracan and Slick take turns showcasing their skills back and forth, though neither is able to get a victory from their finishers the first time around; Slick is able to get to the ropes when Huracan locks on the Time Square Lock, and she is able to kick out of the Slick-Back. And that was just the first half of the match. From there, they kicked it up another notch, to the point that the announcers actually had some trouble keeping up with them. Finally, Slick was able to hit another Slick-Back, and this time, the pinfall stuck.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p></p><p>

I'm disappointed in this show. Sure, everything seemed to come out ok, but everything, outside of Henry's two segments, just seemed to fall a little flat. I don't know how it ended up as good as it did overall; better than the sum of its parts, I guess. Also, I completely forgot to look at the schedule before this show, and three of the guys in the tournament were unavailable today, which really limited the matches I included in this one. The title match was going to happen, but I'd planned on it being Harumi (who is a far better and more popular worker) and it being the main event. I was planning on also having a tag title match with some of the newcomers, but that just wasn't able to happen. These four guys (California Kid, Mateo, Shown Orton, and Harumi) are all on a three-month, three-appearance contract for the time being. Not sure if I'll try to bring any of them in on a more permanent basis, but we'll see how the upcoming matches go.</p><p> </p><p></p><p>

First Round Matchup in the Buy-In Tournament

LeFleur is by all accounts a damned good wrestler; he's the highest rated worker I have in the company. Obviously, I'm misusing him. This is a pretty good match hurt by the fact that we're in the Mid Atlantic and neither of these two are really big names, as well as the fact that it's a pair of heels. Nevertheless, these two put on a decent technical matchup interspersed with cheap tactics when appropriate. It looked like Pennyworth was going to pick up the victory, and was closing in on locking in the Money Clip when Patrick Lindland stepped out onto the ramp. Pennyworth got distracted for just a moment, and that's all it took for LeFleur to take control. Shortly aftewards, he locked on the Parisian Chickenwing for the submission.

First Round Matchup in the Buy-In Tournament

Um...yikes. Don't get me wrong, this was a good match. These two are both good technical workers, and the buildup for Harumi, coupled with the fact that he's actually fairly well known, made this a good match. However, there was a spot a little over half way through the match where Asano was throwing Allen over the top with a whip...but both competitors held on just a little bit too long, and it was quickly apparent that neither of them came out of it terribly good. Allen rolled back into the ring, and the two went into a rest hold, and very shortly thereafter she hit a Northern Lights Suplex, holding on with one arm for the pinfall...which was NOT the plan.

Final Thoughts

OK. Ok. So, the injury completely threw off the planned tag team match. Allen was NOT supposed to win that match, but there's no way to really un-book in this version of the game. Asano tore his rotator cuff, Allen strained her bicep. And IPO is just a week away.

In other news, I was planning on the Money/Pennyworth connection from the moment I thought about bringing Money in. It just seems terribly obvious. I'm thinking of playing Money as the uncle or some other similar relation and running with that. Should be fun.

And finally, BHOTWG has the booking position open. I considered applying...but really, I don't know Japan at all, and that would ruin the name of the diary. So, no.

Orton showcased some heelish ways, going low a couple times to try to bring the big man down. For his part, Aroma was just a brute, knocking Orton all over the ring. Aroma would get the victory after a very hard fought match, pinning Orton after hitting him with a Cracked Facebreaker, putting both members of The Next Big Things in the Semifinals.

Quarterfinal Matchup in the Buy-In Tournament

Unfortunately for Famine, Allen was not to be dissuaded, and limped her way to the ring. Fortunately for him, her earlier match and beatdown had obviously taken its toll. Despite missing some moves early, Famine was in near complete control of this match from the opening bell, even taking the time to taunt Allen in the early going. In fact, he was in such control that he went for the Leap of Faith at around the three minute mark. Alas, Allen wasn't completely out of it, and she rolled out of the way and was able to get a bit of offense in of her own...but when she went for a Northern Lights Suplex, her knee buckled and she screamed out, and Famine was right back in control. Just a minute or so later, he hit the Leap of Faith and landed it this time, pinning the valiant Allen for the three.

This was a pretty good match all told, and these two men were able to tell a decent story in the ring. Slick started out hot, but was blunted by LeFleur's technical expertise. A decent match that was fast moving; so fast that both men were visibly wearing out by the end of things. Despite Henry's confidence, Pennyworth gave him all he could handle and more, as he was able to outwrestle the champion and stay out of the reach of his power moves for a good long time. Henry's frustrations were building as time went on--but so were Pennyworth's as the champ wouldn't stay down or tap out. After the third time Henry managed to snag the ropes from the Money Clip, Pennyworth threw a little tantrum in the corner...and that was all Henry needed to recover, hit a spear, then the Earthquake Powerslam. That would be enough to put Pennyworth down for the count.

Final Match in the Buy-In Tournament

These two men were ready for each other, there was no doubt. The match started slow as they felt out the competition, but once things started happening, the match was pretty damned good. Famine had control first, but Slick was able to fight out. Then, a toss out of the ring and whip into the ring steps gave Famine control back. Slick would reverse a Leap of Faith to take control again. And so on and so forth. Numerous near falls on either side had the crowd guessing which of them would claim victory. Finally, Famine would get Slick down on the mat and hit the Leap of Faith for the three...NO! Slick was able to kick out of it, which stunned Famine. Slick would get up, and hit the Slick-Back, but his cover attempt didn't happen quickly enough, and Famine rolled out of the ring to gather himself. Once back in the ring, the remaining time was almost a microcosm of the whole match, as they traded control fast and furious until finally, Famine was able to hit the Leap of Faith one more time. This time, Slick did stay down for the entire three count, giving Famine the tournament victory.

Final Thoughts

So...this tournament was messed up from the beginning. The original plan, that obviously had to be scrapped, had Blackfriar failing in his attempt to win the Openweight belt but be entered into the tournament. There was going to be a Famine/Destruction finals, with all the possible ramifications thereof. I was going to give Famine the victory, and move Destruction down to team up with Plague for the tag team in the group. Obviously, Blackfriar leaving the company put all that to pasture. Next I considered doing the same story, but with War and Famine. But as I looked at it more, War Diaz just isn't quite up to earning an Openweight shot just yet. BUT, I did have him originally going further in the tournament than he did. And of course there was the injury with Harumi forcing Allen to continue in the tournament despite my wanting to book the tag title match. And then War comes back from Japan with the injury, forcing me to reconsider all of his matches; in the end I had him lose the first one, but work the injury angle so he didn't lose too much.

Even after all of that, I had the entire show booked...and sat there staring at the main event. Yeah, Famine winning was fun, but I wasn't sure if that was the way I wanted to go now. Without the Apocalypse-only storyline leading up to it, I thought maybe giving it to Slick was the better choice. In the end, I decided not to second guess myself, but I'm still hestitating even now (five days after I ran the show when I type this up), wondering if I made the right call. You tell me.

so congratulations to the new W$W Tag Team Champions, Famine Faith! :p

Y'know...I write this, I go over it in text form, I copy-paste it here, I preview and go over it again...you'd think OBVIOUS things like that would jump out at me. But no, of course not.

EDITED, thanks.

While trying to get Lindland out of the ring after missing a tag, Francis Long didn't see Reed and Savage wailing on Aroma in their corner. Lindland finally left the ring, only to run around to the other side and start attacking Reed, who was waiting to tag in. Henry is backstage where he talks about his title belt. He reminds everyone that Famine Faith won the Buy-In Tournament, and that means that he'll be coming for the title sooner or later. He says that it doesn't matter when it happens -- Henry still has yet to be defeated in singles action here in W$W, and that's not going to change anytime soon. He tells Famine that when he's ready, Henry will be waiting.

A little replay of the Buy-In Tournament finals as Slick and Famine go out fast and don't slow down the pace. Both men showcase their signature moves time and again, though neither is able to connect on a finisher despite numerous near calls. The ending came after a rapid series of reversals resulted in Slick coming on on top, and Famine rolling out of the ring to collect himself. Slick stood in the ring calling for Famine to get back in. As Long was reaching the 6 count, it looked like he might, but then he smirked, waved at Slick, and backed up the ramp while Long finished counting him out.

Final Thoughts

Not a bad show, even if starting a game of Civ caused me to not write it up for a while. I wasn't sure what to do about the main event, so an IPO rematch seemed to be called for, especially considering their good chemistry in the ring. All in all, I think we're set for the future here.

No, the best part of this is the mind games, the mental torture. Sure, Henry hasn't been defeated in singles action, but he knows that Famine has his number. He knows his time is limited. And when Famine finally does call his shot? Henry's time will be over.

This was a solid matchup between two pretty good teams...and I apparently forgot to tell Coyote how I wanted it to end. Context clues, man! The two teams went back and forth for a while, with Bitch Slap slowly gaining the upper hand on Lindland. When Aroma made the hot tag, that's when things went to pot; Roger Reed and Micheal Savage came down to the ring, and Reed rolled in and decked Aroma behind the referee's back. Lindland would come in from a phantom tag, and would roll up Jarvis and use the ropes for some leverage to finish the bout, immediately rolling out and going after Pure Savagery on the outside.

Tag team exhibition matchup here, featuring two teams that haven't really been in the thick of things lately. It's a solid matchup, but Windham continues to show his greenish side, as he just really isn't able to keep up with the others. Thunder & Lightning looked solid throughout, and were trying to set up for a Thunderstruck on Windham, but Phantom made the save before the move could really hit. There followed a brief four-man brawl before order was restored, and that was enough for Windham to make the tag. He and Phantom sent Thunder out of the ring, and debuted their own double-team move (a 'rana to an opponent on Windham's shoulders) the Show's Over for the victory.

This is McManus' second shot at taking the Blue Chip championship away from Diaz, but his first after Diaz claimed the War moniker. And honestly, it probably could have been a bit better. They told a decent story throughout the match, with their respective partners at ringside to promote the tag team championship match taking place at In The Red. War was dominant early in the match, and was often taking the time to pose for the crowd or taunt Allen at ringside. In fact, he had even set up for the Asian Thumb Spike at one point, but McManus was able to wriggle away from it, and in the ensuing scuffle, War was sent head first into the turnbuckle. From there, McManus claimed control, and was nearing his own victory when Plague took advantage of the referee's positioning to nail Riley with the title belt from outside the ring. He went down in a heap as Allen chased Plague around the ring in response. War tried to intervene, but in the process turned his back on McManus -- and that spelled the end of his title reign as McManus was able to hit a DDT variant and make the cover on the still stunned War to earn the Blue Chip Championship and become the newest W$W Triple Crown winner.

Obviously irate with losing their only current championship, War and Plague start attacking the tag champs immediately after the bell. McManus & Allen are able to hold their own for a bit, until Famine Faith joins them. That's when the numbers game starts to take it's toll. The trio beat down the tag champs for a while until Allen suddenly gets a burst of energy. She frees McManus and the pair of them are able to send the members of Apocalypse out of the ring. The trio isn't done, however, as they continue to circle the ring, looking for an opening. That's when someone climbs over the barricade out of the crowd.

<img src="http://www.2d12.com/RTG/Workers/The Revelation.jpg" height="100" width="100">

Davis Ditterich is the first to recognize him as MAW stalwart The Architect; obviously he's been here to scout out the competition of W$W. He slides between two members of Apocalpyse and into the ring, nodding to McManus and Allen as he turns to support them against Apocalypse. With the new trio back to back, each facing off against one member of Apocalypse, Architect smirks, turns slightly, and absolutely decks Riley McManus with a vicious looking Blueprint. Apocalypse rushes the ring, and in the now 4-on-1 assault on Allen, it's only a matter of time before the two faces are unconcious and brutalized on the floor. Architect joins with Apocalypse as the four men celebrate together for the crowd.

Final Thoughts

Well. Those final two segments did NOT go as well as I'd hoped. I was hoping Architect's time in MAW would have made him a bit better here, that's why I chose to debut him in the Mid Atlantic. And the main event being a D+ just hurts. That made the show not as good as I'd wanted, but definitely still servicable.

For the record, YES, Architect will be a permanent member of Apocalypse...and no, he will not be going by Architect (though I did consider keeping his "The Architect of Destruction" full name) but in the end, I came up with something I liked better. More on that at In The Red.

As a bonus for everyone, I've already run In The Red, so I can provide a full card, if you'd like to make some predictions!

Contrasting to the promo, this match turned out pretty damned good. Aroma used his size to his advantage, and was able to dominate the early goings of this match as Reed just looked outmatched and outgunned. After taking a roll to the outside to catch a breather, however, Reed was able to send Aroma into the ringside steps, and from there, the big man was in trouble. Reed got him back into the ring and continued to focus on the knees and joints of Aroma, and was eventually able to get him up and hit the Stealth Crusher for the win.</p><p> </p><p>

It was nice seeing Riley come out with two belts over his shoulder, though War was glaring at him during the entire pre-fight introductions. The rage coming off of him was almost palpable, and when the bell rung, War was instantly all over McManus. This was a brutal match, with all four competitors holding nothing back. The punches were stiff, the holds looked brutal, and the impacts left people breathless in the front row. There were numerous near falls on both sides, but in the end, War and Plague pulled out a devastating looking combination move on McManus that the announcers said was called the Bubonic Bomb. Allen tried to make the save but was cut off by Plague, and War covered for the three, giving him a little satisfaction.</p><p> </p><p>

Ditterich and McQueen briefly talk about Long backstage while the two competitors make their way to the ring. They're questioning whether or not the referee will even be able to make this match. <strong>Special Guest Referee: Joaquin Sanchez</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The match itself goes pretty quick. Windham obviously knows he's gotten a raw deal and tries to take care of Pennyworth quickly, but Sanchez just doesn't play along, obviously. Pennyworth goes for the Money Clip early, though Windham is able to fight out of it the first couple of times, not allowing him to lock it in. After a brief distraction from Bowen at ringside, Windham gets caught a third time, and this time Pennyworth is able to get it all...and as soon as the hold looks right, Sanchez calls for the bell, saying that Windham tapped out. Windham looks furious at this, saying he never tapped, but Money Talks walk out of the arena with the cheap win.</p><p> </p><p>

Long has apparently recovered from his attack, as he's out here officiating this match, though with a bandage on one side of his forehead. These two take up right from where their partners left off, and this is a hard-fought match with no clear man in control. They trade blows and holds back and forth for a long time, though when Lindland starts to attempt a Figure Four on to Savage, it seems to wake somethign up in him. They almost devolve into a submission match after that, with neither man even going for a pinfall attempt despite numerous possiblities for victory in that way. <strong>Ladder Match for the W$W Openweight Championship</strong></p><p>

<span>http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Openweight.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p>

This was a damned impressive matchup. These two men wasted no time in bringing the ladders into play, and the hard hits and creative maneuvers got the crowd riled up. Both men attempted the climb the ladder to retrieve the belt a couple times, but never got above half-way up the ladder. There was a scary spot at one point where it looked like Henry might have landed inside a ladder wrong, but it was revealed as a work when Slick started attacking that point, trying to weaken the ankle enough so Henry couldn't get into the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

The ending came when, with ladders laying across the ropes in two different corners, and two different ladders set up in the ring itself, both men were climbing side by side. Trading blows half way up the ladder, neither of them noticed when Apocalypse came through the crowd and slid into the ring. With War and the Revelation taking Slick, and Famine and Plague taking Henry, both of the competitors in the match were the victims of brutal powerbombs through the ladders that had been arranged in the ropes, and neither of them moved afterwards. With a slow methodical pace, Famine Faith set a ladder up in the middle of the ring, climbed it, and pulled the belt down...causing Francis Long to call for the bell in confusion.</p><p> </p><p>

Finally, he looks over at Henry, who is still unconcious laying on the ladder in the corner. He stalks over to the champ, gets in his face with the belt, pointing to himself. Finally, with a smirk, he actually puts the belt back on Henry, buckling it around his waist while the champ remains unmoving. He continues to pose as the show ends.</p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

Yeah, so...That could have REALLY thrown me for a loop. I set up the ladder match as a no-contest sports entertainment type finish with all of Apocalypse attacking. But apparently the default ladder match...well, it needs a winner. Fortunately, it chose Henry, who I guess technically retrieved the belt even in my story...or was at least the first competitor to hold it tonight. Still, it went pretty well.</p><p> </p><p>

The Architect becoming The Revelation fits pretty well, I think. And the group needed another 'brains' type. War and Plague are definitely in the enforcer vein, and Faith is sort of the leader, but I still remember that he was just brainwashed to join. I look forward to continuing this story.</p><p> </p><p>

Apocalypse, McManus & Allen, Cali Slick, Ross Henry

</td><td valign="top" align="center" width="965">

The show starts out with the tolling of a bell, as the four members of Apocalypse make their way to the ring. War and Plague are carrying the W$W Tag Team belts over their shoulders, and the four men celebrate that victory as the first step on the road to total domination of W$W. They proclaim that nothing remains in their way, and that it is now only a matter of time. They are interrupted by the former tag champs, Amber Allen and Riley McManus; McManus carrying the Blue Chip belt. They walk up to the ring, but don't enter it, as they declare that they are deserving of a rematch; they are calling out Apocalypse right now! Apocalypse laughs that challenge off saying that there is no way they put these belts back on the line against chumps who couldn't even defend the titles a single time. Allen & McManus are lucky that Apocalypse doesn't just destroy them right now.

They are interrupted again by the Openweight champ Ross Henry, flanked by Cali Slick. They say that like Allen and McManus, they have a bone to pick with Apocalypse. There was an amazing ladder match taking place at In The Red, and Apocalypse ruined that. And it was damned time that somebody put them into their place. With that, Henry and Slick charged the ring, joined by Allen and McManus. Just like that, there was an 8-person brawl occurring. W$W officials came out to try to separate them, but the two quartets kept escaping to continue the brawl. Finally, a critical mass of bodies managed to come out and force the faces back behind the curtains, leaving Apocalypse to celebrate again briefly before they also left the ringside area.

Backstage, Pennyworth is rubbing Money's face in the fact that he got around his strictures for his last match. After listening for a while, Money sighs and cuts him off. He tells Pennyworth that winning is one thing -- but getting the opportunities that go with it is another. Sure, you can cheat and lie and buy your way into a match, or out of a match...but this is a business. And if the crowd, the audience, thinks you're only in your position because you're cheating, they'll never let you elevate yourself properly. Even the bad guys have to show that they can win the right way once in a while, and that's what Money's been trying to teach him. But, since Pennyworth can't seem to wrap his mind around that, he'll be put in a match to do just that. At Bear Market Beatdown, Pennyworth will be placed in a handicap match against Showtime...and it will be in a steel cage. No help. No outside interference. Just Pennyworth showing that he HAS the talent to be a force here in W$W, and wasn't just put here because he had money. Pennyworth stalks off, obviously pissed about this declaration.

This match seemed to be a little less than the sum of it's parts. Aroma and Reed both looked pretty good out there. The crowd was into it. It told the story it needed to tell. And yet...something just seemed to fall a little short. As promised, Aroma spent a good part of the match just brutalizing Reed with his strength, while Reed played the cagey ring general using everything he could to his advantage. Reed tried for a number of cheap pinfalls (grabbing the tights, holding on to the ropes, etc.), but wasn't able to get anything to stick. As the match dragged on, Reed started looking a little more desperate -- though he managed to get a decent amount of offense of his own in. Finally, after Aroma basically threw Reed out of the ring, Reed had had enough. He searched under the ring for a moment while the ref was counting him out, and when Aroma climbed out of the ring to try to force the issue, Reed would nail him in the head with a steel chair. The referee would call for the bell immediately, awarding the match to Aroma.

Final Thoughts

So this month I actually started by booking the supershow (on paper), and then filling in the other two shows to lead into that. We'll see if that works a little better or not. In this show, I was disappointed with the main event. I'm wondering if the 'storytelling' note killed it that much. It didn't seem to hurt the final rating THAT badly, but everything about this show just seemed to underperform. I don't know what it is.

Also, Kijar, welcome aboard!

While that was not ideal, it apparently allowed him to secret a monkey wrench, of all things, inside his shirt. A momentary distraction of the referee once he came back in was all it took to nail Lindland with the wrench and toss it out of the ring. Lisa regroups herself as she and Sanchez meet up with Pennyworth at the top of the ramp. They say that Pennyworth may be in a cage tonight, and he may be in a two-on-one handicap match...but it is Showtime that is in trouble. Pennyworth is backed into a corner, and you never want to trap an animal in a corner. Pennyworth and Sanchez shake hands, and Bowen gives a long stare down at the cage being set up as they walk out of the arena, leaving Pennyworth all alone.</p><p>

<strong>Cage Match</strong></p><p> </p><p>

A cage handicap match was not a good place to be, and Showtime took the fight to Pennyworth from the outset. They were both allowed in the ring at the same time, and the numbers game was hard to overcome. Still, Pennyworth played defense, and eventually was able to use the cage to his advantage, sending Windham into it hard, knocking him out and making it a one-on-one for a while. After that, the match was fairly standard, with Pennyworth mostly managing to isolate one of Showtime at a time. There was a scary moment near the end when Pennyworth whiffed on a move and went headfirst into the cage, coming down with a cut near his eye and having the referee spend a long time checking on him. He was able to recover enough to continue, and shortly after that he caught Windham in the Money Clip...and Phantom was too woozy to make the save before Windham tapped.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Elimination Tag Match -- Defeat a Champion and Earn a Title Shot</strong></p><p> </p><p>

It's main event time, and the ring is crowded with eight people around the ring. The rules are one person is legal at a time, and they must leave the ringside once eliminated. Famine and Henry start off the match, but Famine quickly tags in The Revelation before they can even lockup. From there, the match progresses pretty well. Famine obviously tries to avoid Henry throughout the entire match, and mostly does a pretty good job of it.</p><p> </p><p>

The first fall comes about twelve minutes in, when Amber Allen connects on a Northern Lights Suplex against Plague, and her teammates cut off the save. Plague is eliminated, and Allen has earned a tag title shot for herself and theoretically Riley McManus. The match continues with Team Henry enjoying a 4-on-3 advantage for a few minutes, with a bunch of quick tags on either side. The Revelation strikes next, when he is able to lock up McManus in a Figure Four after a pointed attack on his knees, and he taps out before anyone can even try to make the save.</p><p> </p><p>

At this point, we're all knotted up with three a piece, and two title opportunities have been earned. There's a little bit of a slowdown in the pace now, as Henry and Famine continue to play chicken with each other, trying to avoid or meet the other in the ring. Apocalypse gets the next fall when War Diaz catches Allen with an Asian Thumb Spike out of nowhere, and she goes down. Mere moments later, Famine connects with a Leap of Faith on Cali Slick after a blind tag, and eliminates him as well.</p><p> </p><p>

Just like that, Ross Henry finds himself on the unfortunate side of a 3-on-1 handicap match, and Apocalypse starts playing with him. Having completely isolated the Openweight Champion from his allies, they are able to wear him down slowly but surely. He isn't out of it yet, however, and a devastating Earthquake Powerslam does eliminate The Revelation. Unfortunately, that proved to be just a distraction, as before he can even get up, War and Famine both pull out their finishers. Famine climbs the top rope, War tags him just before he flies with the Leap of Faith. Famine rolls out of the ring, War picks up Henry, and absolutely levels him with the Asian Thumb Spike...and makes the cover to the astonishment of the crowd. War Diaz earns himself an Openweight Title shot, and Ross Henry has suffered his first pinfall in W$W.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Final Thoughts</strong></p><p>

So, a pretty decent show. Apparently War, Allen, Plague, and Revelation were all overused in that main event. Which is a shame. I wonder how much better it would have been without those penalties.</p><p> </p><p>

Two injuries tonight; Isabel Duran suffered a bruised eye socket, but she'll be back to full strength before you know it. Pennyworth (yep, that's me) got a concussion, and will be out for about a month. Guess that's a cage match for you.</p><p> </p><p>

For the record, I do wish elimination matches allowed you to choose how/when people got eliminated. I wrote this up as I wanted to see it, but the game had Revelation eliminated first, then Plague, then War, putting a 4-on-1 for Famine Faith. That was so NOT the story I wanted to tell here.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>EBEZA</strong> Now I'm curious...what were you hoping I was thinking?</p><p> </p><p>

Thunder & Lightning are in the ring, and they say that they are happy to have the opportunity tonight to show why they are still the dominant team in W$W. While McManus & Allen still have earned themselves a title match, tonight, Thunder & Lightning get to be the first to try to take the belts away from Apocalypse, and that's just what they intend to do.

W$W Tag Team Championship Match

http://www.2d12.com/RTG/WSW%20Tag%20Team.jpg

This turns out to be a pretty decent match. Thunder & Lightning are able to showcase their own skills, showing off why they have been the champions in the recent past...meanwhile, Apocalypse continues their recent domination. War in particular looked pretty brutal, as the build towards his Openweight shot continues. Thunder & Lightning actually manage to hit a Thunderstroke on Plague at one point, but it turned out he wasn't the legal man after a blind tag, and War quickly cleaned house. He would continue the assault on Thunder for a while until Plague had recovered, then they would double-team and hit the Bubonic Bomb for the pinfall.

Final Thoughts

Hey...not bad. Not bad at all.

I'm still not sure where I'm going with Jillian. She's a main eventer who hasn't gotten a decent push in quite a while...so I don't KNOW if I'm going to put her in a title program or not. There's lots of people waiting for one of those. But this is at least a start, and with the Pennyworth/Money program on temporary hold, this keeps Money in sight as well.

Final Rating: C
