Major League Wrestling- A New Man in Charge

Recommended Posts

Major League Wrestling, a company started by Court Bauer in 2002. Court wanted to make a more hybrid, cutting edge promotion, much like ECW but with a mix of American, Mexican, and Japanese wrestling styles mixed in. The company lasted about 2 years before shutting their doors in 2004.

In 2017, Court Bauer reopened MLW, with the same theme as before. Cutting edge, ECW feel, with more Lucha Libre mixed in. Court helped start a tv show, MLW Fusion, but was unable to get the show on tv, partly due to production values and the cult/hybrid theme that Court was not about to remove from the product.

After months of failed negotiations, Court had enough. He walked away from the very company he started, resigned himself to the fact that he needed to sell the company to a man with more negotiation skills, a man who had in fact been owner or part owner of 2 companies in the past, with reasonable success. However, there were stipulations: the new owner of Major League Wrestling was going to do what Court wouldn't do.. make the product less of a cult/hybrid style, and more of a fan friendly product. Not WWE fan friendly, mind you, as the new owner of MLW had been a part of the WWE during the Attitude Era, and the PG era. Knowing how crucial it was to land a tv deal, Court relinquished control, and changes to MLW were about to be made.

The question on everyones mind was.. who bought MLW, and how would that effect the landscape of the business. The wrestling world was buzzing when the news finally came out. Vince McMahon was a very unhappy camper as he had just recently hired this man back into the WWE. Dixie Carter was shocked and immediately made the statement that "It won't be long before he will be running to my daddy for money." The new owner of Major League Wrestling was none other than....

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The New Owner Speaks</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The King of the Mountain is now the King of MLW! I'm "The Chosen One" Jeff Jarrett, and I'm the new owner of Major League Wrestling. Today I'm going to talk a little bit about my vision for the company. First, the product. </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Product</span></p><p> </p><p>

Major League Wrestling is known for their edge, among other things. Here's the deal though, and I learned it the hard way. It's hard, and I mean very hard, to succeed as a top promotion without a good television deal. The days of the Attitude Era are over. The days of ECW are over. To get a good television deal, the edgy, hardcore stuff has to take a back seat. My focus is to get MLW on a major, or at least semi-major, television network. Something I wasn't able to do with my baby, Global Force Wrestling. So, we're cutting back on the hardcore a bit, we're cutting back on the Cult a little bit, and we're cutting back on the daredevil stuff a little bit. Now, every wrestling promotion has to have some edge. No, I'm not talking about my buddy Adam "Edge" Copeland, although if I could get him to come to MLW, I would in a heartbeat. MLW has a vocal fanbase, and they aren't going to be satisfied unless they have some hardcore. So I have it set to Medium right now. We're gonna see how it goes.</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Schedule</span></p><p> </p><p>

Court Bauer, who I bought the company from, had a big event set for every month. That ain't gonna fly with me, not yet. MLW ain't there yet, and may not be for a while. What we're gonna do, is we're gonna start by having a big event every other month. Will it start this month? Will it start next month? Hell, I don't even know myself yet. What I do know is that even have 6 major events a month for a small company may be testing the limits, but remember what I said about edge? Being a daredevil? Here it goes. We might be out of business in a year, but damnit, we're gonna give the fans all we got. Of course, I put some of my own money into the company, so MLW will be starting with a nice, healthy $150,000. Now, to Dixie Carter or Vince McMahon, $150,000 seems like pennies. But for a small company, that's a pretty darn good starting point. </p><p> </p><p>

My first big move, in sticking with the theme of the schedule, is to get us some air time. Anywhere. I talked to a couple buddies of mine that still work for TNA... oops, let me correct myself, I guess it's just Impact Wrestling now. Hey.. TNA...Impact Wrestling.. it's all the same. Call it whatever you want, the fact is, I'm still the King of the Mountain there and always will be. Anyways, back to air time. My buddies, who will remain nameless, for now, suggested I go to Twitch. Now, Twitch was in the market to show Impact Wrestling until things went south. They are an Amazon owned subscription based company. We're putting MLW Fusion on Twitch, starting this Friday Night. It ain't much.. but hell.. it's better than nothing. The show will air on Twitch on Saturdays, On Demand. Whatever the hell that means. I guess they'll show it when they wanna show it. The deal is only for 6 months, which gives us time to get our popularity up and hopefully move on to something a little bigger. Now.. I've learned from my mistakes, and I'm realistic now. I'm not expecting us to be on USA or Spike TV or whatever other big network is out there, anytime soon. But we can get there.</p><p> </p><p>

So to recap, MLW Fusion, every Friday night, 1 hour, shown on Twitch... well... sometime on Saturday.</p><p> </p><p>

1 big event every other month, which I hope to have shown on Twitch as well. The big events will come out on DVD.</p><p> </p><p>

There's one more pretty big topic to talk about.. the roster. Guys.. I'm saving that for tomorrow. Court Bauer has an incredibly big roster for a small company, and I'm probably going to shift through and make some changes. I like big rosters, but if guys ain't getting time in the ring, it ain't doing anybody any good. So we'll narrow it down, some. I'll review the roster, I'll talk to Court about some things, and we'll go from there. That's a general idea of how MLW will be ran by the King of the Mountain. Stay tuned tomorrow for the roster news.</p>

I'm going to play around a bit with the writing in this one.</p>

Hey all, the Chosen One, Double J here. Now I said I wouldn't be back until tomorrow, but I wanted to get a couple more things off my chest. You see, I want MLW to be a fan friendly company. What that means is that I want YOU, the fans, to have an input in certain decisions. Might be a roster move, a push, who the hell knows what all it might be. Hey, everybody needs a little help, right?</p><p> </p><p>

Well, that first decision comes now. You see, I went to Twitch, and I pushed to get our big events on the air. They are willing, but the terms of the contract are for 9 months, with a guarantee of 9 events. Now folks, you can do the math just as easily as I can. That's 1 event per month. Exactly what I did NOT want to start with. Unfortunately, Twitch is the only broadcaster willing to negotiate with us right now. So, folks, help me out here. Let's think about this. Would we rather:</p><p> </p><p>

1. Sign the contract, and try 1 big event a month just to see how costly it will be.</p><p>

2. Refuse the contract, keep with the King of the Mountain's plan of 1 big event every other month, and those events won't air. This could, and should, give us time to get our popularity up so that maybe we can get a look elsewhere. </p><p> </p><p>

So.. folks, that's the first decision on the cards. We're gonna take some time, think about this, and make the right decision. Hell, I could wait until the day of an event to either sign a contract or not, but I'll give it until... say... next Monday (real time) and then we'll make a final decision based on what you great viewers think.</p><p> </p><p>

So let's help ol' Double J out. Whatdya think??</p>

<p>(ooc) going away from Jeff Jarrett for a minute, my writing style won't change much when it comes to shows. It'll be more like it was my last couple shows in my WWE Evolution Dynasty, with more character talk during the shows.</p><p> </p><p>

Anytime I'm writing from Jeff Jarrett's point of view, I'll try to remember to use his picture, that way everybody knows I'm writing as Double J, not myself. I've seen others have great success writing from a real wrestler POV, hopefully I can too.</p>

Double J here. The initial roster is set. I made very few changes, decided I'd go with what we have. Ideally, we have twice as many wrestlers as a small company needs, and hell who knows, we might even see MLW Fusion go to 90 minutes a show. If I thought we could get a 2nd show, hell I might even do that. Who knows what I'll do. Anyway, here is the big roster reveal. Keep in mind, a lot of these wrestlers I don't know much about.

(ooc) I was going to include graphics for the initial roster, but I decided against it. Rest assured, for the shows, I will have a face to go with the name, as even I wouldn't know a lot of these guys.

King of the Mountain Jeff Jarrett here, one last time for the night. Hey, when you're on a roll, you're on a roll, and boy am I on a roll.

I decided that I wanted to start my first show here at MLW with a bang, so we're gonna have our first edition of MLW Fusion be a special edition. It's gonna be a Night of Champions edition, with all 4 titles on the line. 4, you ask? But Double J, MLW only has 3 titles. Wrong! You see, ol' Double J here has decided that if we're gonna be on TV, we have to have a Television title, right? WCW did, and it was very successful. So we're going to crown a first ever MLW Television Champion. Here's a look at the line-up for MLW Fusion: Night of Champions.

MLW World Heavyweight Title Match- Low Ki © vs. MVP

MLW World Middleweight Title Match- Maxwell Jacob Friedman © vs. Vandal Ortagun

MLW World Tag Team Title Match- The Lucha Brothers w/Salina de La Renta © vs. ACH and Rich Swann

MLW World Television Title Match- Shane Strickland vs. Joey janela w/Aria Blake

Folks, this is a stacked hour of pro wrestling, nobody can deny that. Tune in tomorrow to see this awesome show.

</p><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">

Friday, Week 1, August 2018</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Now, you guys know me, I'm a take charge kind of guy. I like doing things my own way. But I'm not afraid to reach out and ask for help when I think it's necessary. In this case, I don't think a little help would hurt. So I made a phone call.</p><p> </p><p>

*phone ringing, voice answering in the background. "Yea, who is it and whaddya want?*</p><p> </p><p>

"Mr. Vince MacMahon, King of the Mountain here, that's J E Double F J A Double R E Double T, Jeff Jarrett"</p><p> </p><p>

*Vince grumbles into the phone* "You got a lot of guts calling me after you walked out on the WWE, after I was nice enough to sign you to a legends contract!!!"</p><p> </p><p>

I chuckle a little bit. "Now Vince, that's sour grapes and you know it. Besides, we're both businessmen, and you know if you were in my place, you'd have done the same thing. And I still have a lot of friends in the WWE you know. Why, just the other day Brian and I went and sang With My Baby Tonight at a karaoke bar."</p><p> </p><p>

*Vince chuckles a bit* "Well, you make a fair point. Now what can I do for you Mr. Jarrett?"</p><p> </p><p>

"Vince, it ain't about what you can do for me, it's what I can do for you. You see, I know that you are still in charge of everything WWE, and I know all the brands have an alliance going on. How about letting ol Double J and his new company into that alliance."</p><p> </p><p>

*Vince yelling into the phone* WHAT?? Have you gone off your rocker? There is no chance in hell that the WWE would ever let another company into their alliance!! Separate companies or not, we are still the WWE, and we are still the best in the world."</p><p> </p><p>

*I chuckle* "Vince, there's a lot of companies that would disagree with that. But moving on, you remember a guy named MVP? I bet either Steph or Shane would be happy to have him for a few cards. How about Low Ki. Rich Swann? Vince, I have access to talent that wouldn't even think about wrestling for you, and I can bring that talent to you."</p><p> </p><p>

(a long pause) "Alright Jeff, and what is it you want in return?"</p><p> </p><p>

"It's quite simple Vince. I'm a rich guy, but I'm not that rich. Nothing compared to you and your family. Major League Wrestling is not a financially stable company. I just plugged several thousand dollars of my own money into it. You see, if you let us into your WWE alliance, not only can we trade talent, but we can share the profits... Now, before you start yelling again and have a heart attack, think about it. The money that my company would see from any potential shares would be just a penny on the dollar to you. But for us, it would make all the difference in the world."</p><p> </p><p>

(another long pause) "Jeff, you drive a hard bargain, but ultimately the decision isn't in my hands. You see, WWE is split into 5 separate companies now. While I am still the owner, I'm not going to just let another company into our alliance without checking with all 5 of the company owners first. That includes Paul, Shane, and my precious daughter Stephanie. And you know, their decisions count for a lot. You give me the weekend, and I'll have an answer for you on Monday."</p><p> </p><p>

*I shake my head* "Vince, I was hoping you were still the take charge kind of guy you used to be. I'm disappointed, but I certainly understand. After all, you wouldn't want to go against your kids or your son-in-law. So if you need the weekend, take the weekend. I'll be expecting a good answer on Monday. Take care Vince, always a fun chat."</p><p> </p><p>

(Vince laughs) "I wish I could say the same. *scowling* You'll hear from me Monday! (Vince slams the phone down)</p><p> </p><p>

Boy, is the King of the Mountain a good salesman or what? How much would it help MLW to be in an alliance with the WWE? Hell, that old senile bastard Vince doesn't realize what a good deal this is. Now, I have to go get ready to book a show.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

(ooc) A couple things. I'll run the first show tomorrow, I just wanted to get this post in. I'm going to alter my writing style to have the weekly tv shows just be short recaps (with basic graphics), and try to have more detailed recaps for the big events, ppvs, whatever you want to call them. I'm also going to do some backstage writing like this, with different characters. I'm not saying this will last forever, but to get this dynasty going and create interest. I'm definitely excited about expanding and trying new stuff, so I hope you all enjoy</p>

Monday, Week 2, August 2018

I was eating breakfast with my beautiful wife Karen when the phone rang. *picking up the phone* "Now there is only 1 person that I would let bother me during quality breakfast time with my wife. How ya doin Vince MacMahon?"

Vince: "Hey pal!"

Me: "We'll see about that. You got good news for me?"

Vince: "Well.. no. You see, your offer has been denied" *I slam my hand on the table, drawing the ire of my wife, as my bowl of cereal goes all over the floor* "I can see you're not too happy pal"

Me: "Vince, first of all, we aren't pals, not right now. I wanna know, which of those ingrates in the WWE thought it was a bad idea to go into business with ol Double J? I bet it was that bitch Stephanie."

Vince: *Scowling into the phone* "You watch your mouth Jeff. I can just as easily remove you from the WWE Hall of Fame. Just remember, that's my daughter you're talking about." *slight pause* "Well, you're right, my daughter can be quite a bitch, there's no denying that. And yes, she was one that refused the agreement. But.. so did Paul, and well.. my son Shane."

Me: "Vince, you gotta be kidding me. I gave your company some great years, and when me and my dad started Impact, we said from day 1 we wouldn't try to compete with your company. Now that I need just a little bit of help giving MLW a fresh start, this is the treatment that I get?"

Vince: *Yelling into the phone* "Now hold on" *I cut him off* "No, you hold on Vince. You can take me out of the Hall of Fame if you want, but I'm done with you, I'm done with your bitch daughter, and I'm done with your entire damn company. You don't want to help me out? Fine! As of this moment, Major League Wrestling and ol Double J are now enemies of anything to do with the WWE." *I slam the phone down, knowing I'm about to feel the wrath of my wife.*

(ooc) As expected, the WWE declined my proposal. RAW and Stephanie were the main arguers against it, but when I tried to go into a working relationship with Smackdown and NXT, both Shane and Paul (otherwise known as HHH) both turned me down. I've started a hostile relationship with all 3 companies.

Breaking News

New MLW owner Jeff Jarrett has signed a deal with Twitch to broadcast MLW events. The deal is set for 9 months, and part of the deal is that Twitch expects MLW to put on 9 events in the next 9 months. Also, Jarrett has moved the MLW TV tapings to Monday night, a very curious move. We will see how that plays out. Is he sending a message to the WWE, which he now has bad blood with? Time will tell.

MLW will have a live event one Sunday every month during the next 9 months. All of the events will be held in the Southeast region of the USA, and will either be on the 2nd or 3rd Sunday of the month.

A couple notes guys, this will be my format going forward for the weekly shows. It's quick, the graphics are quick, and I can get through it and give more attention to the monthly big events, which I plan on more of a story writing format for those. The graphics will remain the same, but there will be more writing.

Also, I apologize for the lack of a couple pictures through the first few shows. When I originally set the pictures up, I thought I had done it on photobucket, but it turns out I did it on imgur. So some of the photos that I recently set up on photobucket aren't coming in right. I'll get that corrected, and also get pictures up of the officials, managers, announcers, etc. Hope you all are enjoying so far.

"Hey folks, as we get ready for the first big MLW event under the "Double J" regime, I wanted to let you know that we here at MLW appreciate all the followers, and I'd like to extend the invite to come to me with any questions, comments, or concerns you might have with anything going on in the company. I will respond to ALL of them. But right now I want to address a couple things. People have been asking me non-stop since the news came out. Jeff, are you crazy, moving the MLW Fusion TV tapings to Monday nights?"

*cell phone rings* "Just a minute folks, I need to take this." *answering phone* "Hello. Yea Mr. Parrow, what can I do for you? Uh-huh. I see. I'll take it under advisement. Thanks for calling." *hangs up phone*

"Sorry guys, that was Big Mike Parrow. He wants to be pushed up the card. He thinks he is mid-card status. I have to agree, but I didn't want to seem like the kind of owner that was immediately going to give into my workers demands. Now, where were we? Ah yes, moving to Monday nights. Guys, I can tell you right now, as much as I hate the McMahon family right now, this move has absolutely NOTHING to do with that." *sighs*

"You see, MLW is a small company. I can't afford to give my wrestlers a written contract. All my workers are PPA, and unfortunately, most of them also work elsewhere. I had to move to Monday nights, and move the big events to Sunday nights, because that is when the least amount of wrestlers are gone. I hate to do it, I don't want to. Even when I was at Impact, I knew it was suicide to go head to head with the McMahon family. I still think that way. So, in short, for booking purposes, I had to make the change."

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to start booking the first big event under my reign as MLW owner. Thank you for your time, and please feel free to hit up ol Double J with any questions, comments, or concerns"

Sorry for the lack of updates guys, it's been a crazy couple weeks. Job interviews, doctor appointments, just life. I haven't felt much up to do anything recently, but I'm back and ready to go. Every time I watch an episode of MLW on YouTube, my blood gets pumping. Well.. I watch episode 31 and 32 today (yes, I'm that far behind) and I'm ready.

Now, this is the first big event under the Jarrett regime, and normally for these I like to do a little preview of the card, but in this case, I'm just going to list the card and take predictions. I AM doing a prediction contest guys. Every big event (1 per month) will be part of the prediction contest. I'll decide prizes later, but please get your predictions in. Here's the card for MLW Summer Apocalypse:

MLW World Heavyweight Title Match

Low-Ki © vs. "Filthy" Tom Lawlor

Comments:

MLW World Middleweight Title Match

Maxwell Jacob Friedman © vs. Trey Miguel

Comments:

MLW World Tag Team Title Match

The Lucha Brothers © vs. The Smash and Dash Connection

Comments:

Brian Pillman Jr. vs. Fred Yehi

Comments:

Cade and Yuta vs. The Dirty Blondes

Comments:

MVP vs. Jake Hager

Comments:

Bonus (2 points): Jeff Jarrett has just signed a new talent to be the backstage interviewer. Who is it? (hint, it's a female):

I will be running this show Monday if all goes well, as I have a busy weekend planned. The big events (I hope, as long as I have the patience) will be written more in-depth than the other cards. Get your predictions in, because the prediction contest starts now. This particular prediction contest (since we're in August in-game) will feature just 5 cards, so it's very important not to miss out. Thanks.

<p>Guys, contrary to popular belief, this project definitely isn't done. The past 2 weeks have been spent fighting off a flu bug and preparing for a new job. Rest assured, I still have big plans for this. In fact, the more I get caught up on MLW Fusion on YouTube, the more I can't wait to get back to this.</p><p> </p><p>

MLW Summer Apocalypse will be ran tomorrow afternoon sometime, so if anybody wants to get some last minute picks in, now is the time.</p>
