Remus, “Hello everyone! I’d like to welcome you all to the very first episode of Thursday Night Triumph here on NCTV. I’m Remmington Remus and I am joined on this debut episode by Adrian Garcia.”

Garcia, “Thanks for that introduction Remmington. We’re here at The Junkyard for what should promise to be a great night of action in the Continental Wrestling League. Thursday Night Triumph is brand new and ushers in a new era for the CWL. An era where we will see more men and women with an opportunity to prove themselves and earn your respect. Hell, they even gave me and Remmington a job.”

Remus, “They sure did and I’m glad to have it. In our main event tonight, we will have a four-way-dance between four of the stand out athletes here in the CWL. The prize? The Television Title previously held by Sgt. Bison. Long time fans of the CWL will remember that if you managed seven successful defenses of the Television Championship, you’d earn a shot at the United States title. That rule is no longer in effect. The Television Title is the top singles title here on Triumph. Winning it is a stepping stone to getting a shot at the North American Heavyweight Championship, because with the new brand split that has gone into effect -- the North American Heavyweight, Tag Team, Women’s, and Women’s Tag Team can be defended on either show!”

Garcia, “In other words, Remmy, you never know what is going to happen. Here on Triumph.”

Remus, “We certainly don’t and let’s go ringside for the first match in Triumph history!”

Hurakan versus “Relentless” Wesley Browning

  • A bout between two men that are classified as Junior Heavyweights. Hurakan the young luchador from Mexico in his seventh year as a pro and Browning the six-year pro from the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling.
  • From the start, Hurakan was really given some time to shine and it was clear that Browning and Hurakan had great chemistry.
  • Browning went after the eyes and got admonished by the official, but it did allow him to seize control.
  • Browning hit his Phantom Bulldog and got the first win here on Triumph.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Wesley Browning defeated Hurakan in 7:42 by pinfall with a Phantom Bulldog.

Colleen Appleseed versus Isabeau Grenier

  • The first women’s match on Triumph pit two women that have similar experience, backgrounds, and height. Both are 5’4”, but Appleseed only clocks in at 101 pounds whereas Grenier is a solid 143.
  • Appleseed is a graduate of the Combat Academy and is in her fourth year as a pro. She has spent three years working for CWL’s feeder-league, the TGL where she is a former Texas Women’s Champion.
  • Grenier is a graduate of the Supreme Wrestling University and is in her sixth year as a pro. She also spent three years working for TGL before making it to the main roster and is also a former Texas Women’s Champion.
  • A contest that had some really good wrestling between two women with great chemistry, once the fans know these women better this would have been a barn burner. It went back and forth with Appleseed looking for her trademark Spinning Elbow but Grenier ducked and hit her with the Wonder F-5

In a bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Isabeau Grenier defeated Colleen Appleseed in 7:04 by pinfall with a Wonder F-5.

Rick Law came out to the ring to a lot of applause. The big man who fights for justice is excited to be a part of Triumph. He plans on being the face of the show and making sure that each and every week the people are given a great show. He wants his legacy to be what he was able to build here.

As he was talking, Ash Campbell interrupted him. Ash plans on being the face of Triumph. He plans on making this his show and cementing his own legacy and showing that he’s not just his father’s son but that he is a star in his own right. Both men agree that they’re going to have to settle this in the ring, but not tonight.

Bowden Snoop & Larry McFly versus Chucky Dorrance & Ant-Man

  • Another junior heavyweight showcase, this time a tag team match between two makeshift tag teams that are trying to prove themselves not only here but in the Global Wrestling Council so that they can earn an opportunity to challenge Super Zero, who just recently defeated KC Glenn in Australia for the belt.
  • All four men tried their best, but it wasn’t a great contest. Nobody was particularly awful, but nobody set the world on fire either. Neither team showed great chemistry -- though there wasn’t bad chemistry from either team.
  • The short, stout, but incredibly powerful Ant-Man did a few good power spots, including hitting Larry McFly with the Antidote and getting the win for his team.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Chucky Dorrance and Ant-Man defeated Bowden Snoop and Larry McFly in 10:17 when Ant-Man defeated Larry McFly by pinfall with an Antidote.

Former World Junior Heavyweight Champion KC Glenn was out next. He apologized to the fans for not representing them better in Australia. He still believes he’s the best Junior Heavyweight in the world and he believes that Super Zero just had a better night than he did. Tonight, he’s going to go about getting himself back on track in the four-way-dance for the Television Title. He plans on leaving here with the belt and being the first champion here on Triumph.

Pearl Flanders versus Jessica Montoya

  • Another women’s division match up between former North American Women’s Champion, Pearl Flanders, and the crazy Alabama-native Jessica Montoya -- another graduate of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling.
  • This was a story of size difference. Montoya at 5’4” and 112 pounds was significantly smaller than the 5’7” 207-pound powerhouse from New Mexico.
  • Flanders controlled the match with her size while Montoya mostly peppered her with strikes and tried to take out the thick lower base of Flanders -- who was very hard for the smaller woman to topple.
  • Flanders ended up turning Montoya inside-out with the Running Lariat and getting a much-needed win for herself.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Pearl Flanders defeated Jessica Montoya in 9:57 by pinfall with a Running Lariat.

“Rubber” Christopher Ball versus The Acolyte w/ Father Grim

  • Another Junior Heavyweight showcase here as The Acolyte, with the Sinister Minister that is Father Grim was up against former professional Mixed Martial Artists, Christopher Ball.
  • This wasn’t a great contest by any stretch, but it did continue to redevelop the Acolyte as a feared junior heavyweight who despite his size has long stretches of being impervious to pain. He absorbed several big strikes from Ball and kept coming, eventually hitting him with his springboard knee to the temple that he calls the Bear Knee

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, The Acolyte defeated Christopher Ball in 8:28 by pinfall with a Bear Knee.

Mikey James & Leon Pena versus The Wild Cats

  • The Wild Cats, who were supposed to compete in the Oxford Invitational this past weekend, were in action here against a team that did find some success in that tournament -- going to the semi finals. “The Dragon” Mikey James and Leon Pena.
  • This was a really good tag team contest. James and Pena have really found themselves forming some slick moves even though they have only recently started teaming and the Wild Cats have over a decade of tag experience and have championships in Mexico and Southern California to their name.
  • It was a back and forth contest that showcased a lot of slick lucha-libre between Pena and the two masked luchadors.
  • James managed to hit the Dragon Whip on El Jaguar and gave his team a win.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Mikey James and Leon Pena defeated The Wild Cats in 10:42 when Mikey James defeated El Jaguar by pinfall with a Dragon Whip.

Bradley D versus Dragón Americano versus KC Glenn versus “The Butcher” Alexander Vasquez

  • The Main Event of the first ever Triumph certainly did not disappoint. Four major players in the Junior Heavyweight Division going at it. Two of them (Bradley and Vasquez) graduates of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling, KC an integral part to the whole company and Americano a recent acquisition from SOTBPW that has had several very competitive match ups.
  • All four men were wrestling with something to prove and they were all ontop of their game. Glenn looked like the biggest star in the bunch with his fully hybrid style combined with the Southern flair for the dramatics making him a big time fan favorite, but Bradley D with his good looks and smile definitely had the women on his side.
  • None of that affected the Butcher, who was dialed in and as cold and calculating as he has been in recent months.
  • Americano also showcased some very slick moves and as the veteran of the match it was clear he was helping keeping everyone where they needed to be.
  • KC Glenn hit a big move where he springboarded from inside of the ring to Americano who was on the apron and hit a DDT onto the apron (the hardest part of the ring) and the two men toppled to the outside.
  • That move left Vasquez open with Bradley D to hit the Side Blaster and get the pinfall victory and win the Television Championship.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Alexander Vasquez defeated Bradley D, Dragón Americano and KC Glenn in 15:22 when Alexander Vasquez defeated Bradley D by pinfall with a Side Blaster. Alexander Vasquez wins the CWL Television title.

Tomonaga & Nawabe versus Marshall Dillon & Texas Hangman

  • The PGHW Glory Crown Tag Team Champions, Genichi Nawabe and Yodo Tomonaga -- that were unable to make the Oxford Invitational Tournament, made their American debut here against the new team of Marshall Dillon and Texas Hangman.
  • Both Dillon and Hangman are big powerhouses and Nawabe and Tomonaga are both supposed to be the same, but both are relatively green and are just out of Young Lion status in Japan.
  • It was a short, physical match with lots of strikes and not enough selling from anyway. Hangman isn’t supposed to sell a lot by definition, but neither Tomonaga or Nawabe are naturals in the selling department so it made the match kind of clunky.
  • Dillon did his best though and the big Texan hit his Crackdown (Sidewalk Slam) on Nawabe to secure another win for the budding team.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Marshall Dillon and Texas Hangman defeated Tomonaga & Nawabe in 7:32 when Marshall Dillon defeated Genichi Nawabe by pinfall with a Crackdown.

In terms of in-ring work, Marshall Dillon was head and shoulders above everyone else.

“The Hillbilly Hammer” Clyde Puder versus “The Russian Cyclone” Jože Král

  • The powerhouse from Shadaloo, Jože Král, looked just a couple inches shorter than Puder but his physique was equally impressive.
  • Puder has been on a bit of a losing streak and has been getting more and more frustrated and it is showing in each contest as he’s putting more salt on his strikes and is more willing to test the referee’s instructions.
  • Král is green, but the native of St. Petersburg, Russia has the look of a star and he and Puder looked like they could really have some knockdown, drag-out brawls in the future.
  • Puder had control of the match, but Král managed to get out of his grip and hit a big Crunch Tackle and got a surprising victory.

In a decent match, Jože Král defeated Clyde Puder in 8:28 by pinfall with a Crunch Tackle.

-Puder and Kral have great chemistry

Puder is left alone in the ring and he doesn’t look happy. He slaps his head several times and says something to himself that isn’t audible but his distress is clear. The big man is not in a good place mentally and the losing streak seems to be pushing him further off the deep end.

Lauren Easter, Jaime Quine, & Amber Allen versus Alicia Strong, Brooke Tyler, & Nadia Snow

  • On one side of the ring, the North American Women’s Champion, Lauren Easter, the number one contender, and the immensely talented Amber Allen were opposite the North American Women’s Tag Team Champions, Strong & Tyler, and the very talented Nadia Snow.
  • This was a sensational match from six of the best female wrestlers in the world. Strong & Tyler have quickly become a tag team that could stand against any of the great tag teams in wrestling and Lauren Easter has become a tremendous wrestler. Throw in Snow, Quine, and Allen who are all closer to excellent than they are to great and it’s the recipe for success.
  • Snow was a bit slower than everyone else, but she’s also the most experienced and time is not on her side. Recently it has been clear that the wear and tear on her body is starting to get to her, but in this match she was covered by her two partners.
  • Everyone got an opportunity to shine in this match and in the end, Snow hit Allen with a Snow Ball (Explosion Suplex) for the victory.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Alicia Strong, Brooke Tyler and Nadia Snow defeated Lauren Easter, Jaime Quine and Amber Allen in 15:08 when Nadia Snow defeated Amber Allen by pinfall with a Snow Ball.

Nadia Snow was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Luis Cummo versus “The Supreme Star” Spencer Spade

  • Normally a tag team specialist, Luis Cummo had a big singles opportunity here against former North American Champion, Spencer Spade. Spade has been on vacation for the last month and this is his first real return to action here.
  • Cummo is the star of the tandem with his brother, Kurt, and in this match we got to see why. Cummo is a babyface star in the making. He’s handsome. He can sell and has a flair for the dramatic that really came through against Spade.
  • Spade has turned into quite the general and the rumour is that the Eisen family is particularly angry that they let him go all those years ago.
  • In a great match that really got the fans on the edge of their seat and really had them engaged with all of the action, Spade managed to hit the Supreme Stunner (his version of a face crusher) on Cummo and get the win.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Spencer Spade defeated Luis Cummo in 9:11 by pinfall with a Supreme Stunner.

After successfully defeating Luis Cummo, Spencer Spade takes a microphone. He addresses the crowd and the North American Heavyweight Champion, Wolf Hawkins. Spade wants an opportunity to regain the Championship that he carried with so much pride. The Championship that he feels he brought a whole new level of respect to and now he is ready to get it back and he has his eyes on Wolf Hawkins.

Primus Allen & Riley McManus versus The Devils Rejects w/ February Malaise

  • Allen and McManus are two of the top singles wrestlers in CWL history. Tully and Dewes are the secondary Rejects team and still struggling to build consistency.
  • This was another match with really good in-ring action that was only hampered by a crowd that isn't super into Dewes and Tully, but they were really into Riley and Riley put on a great performance. His confidence is through the roof and the Georgia native led this match to keep a great pace and showcase everyone's strength.
  • Allen got to show the MMA-striking and grappling he has developed over training for his several professional fights.
  • The Rejects showed teamwork that is continuing to get more fluid. If rumor is to be believed, this version of the Rejects is going to be geared up soon, but tonight was not that night.
  • Riley hit Louis Tully with the Slingshot Suplex -- an even more impressive move because of the size of Tully -- for the win.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Primus Allen and Riley McManus defeated The Devils Rejects in 13:44 when Riley McManus defeated Louis Tully by pinfall with a Slingshot Suplex.

Ballistic versus Jay Chord

  • Ballistic, one of the six people that does not belong to a specific brand was in action here against Jay Chord, who has turned in to one of the best wrestlers in North America -- and was the top guy in NOTBPW for several years before coming to CWL full time.
  • This was Ballistic’s first opportunity at singles action since he has turned it up a notch and he did not disappoint.
  • The muscle mass he has added to his frame in the past several months really helped him with the power moves he brought against Jay Chord and the crowd was buzzing from the action.
  • Chord was the general, the spitting image of his father who has turned in to just as good of a worker as his father was and he took control.
  • Chord is clearly being positioned as, along with Spencer Spade, the top heel on Slammasters and perhaps the top heel in the organization.
  • Chord hit the Cradle Piledriver onto Ballistic and got the victory -- which doesn’t hurt the tag specialist that Ballistic is right now but also gave Chord a very competitive match up.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Jay Chord defeated Ballistic in 13:26 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver.

Clyde seems to be getting passed by, by all the new talents recently. :(

He never was that good in the ring and it’s hurting him as the new guys come in with elite ring skills and also have size and good looks as well.

Devils Rejects II push I’m on board! I’ve always liked Tully.

Rejects I the OGs are in this really weird spot where they have transcended the tag division but aren’t quite singles stars.

Bowen Services is out, perhaps a new super group is in the books? All very interesting possibilities.

Love the tag guys getting some run at singles too. Ballistic for me seems an inevitable singles star especially given hes so much better than Barrage.

Pretty sure those are storyline losses leading to a heel turn. I know I'm ready for heel Puder, hell, Historian made heel McManus work!

Yeah but the broken by losses heel turn usually establishes guys as midcard acts historically.

I think the shock turn like Riley is more like a main event sort of deal, plus Clyde even before the heel turn was just jobber to the stars. Also I think he’s not that good in the ring compared to the newer guys, he might have hit caps way earlier than most and as the diary progresses and basically everyone starts becoming 90 or 80 performance skill beasts a guy who plateaus years ago in the 70s is going to really lag behind.

Remus, “Hello and welcome to Thursday Night Triumph! This is our second episode here on NCTV and we are incredibly excited to be back in your homes tonight. We’re coming to you from the West Texas Coliseum where over sixteen hundred fans have crammed into the building to witness the most competitive professional wrestling action you can find anywhere in the United States. I’m Remmington Remus and I’m joined in the broadcast booth by Adrian Garcia. Adrian, thanks for being here tonight.”

Garcia, “There isn’t anywhere else I’d rather be. What a night we have in store for our fans. Alexander Vasquez defends his newly won Television Championship against the debuting Reaver, a living legend in Puroresu and now he is here in the CWL. The Wild Cats are also in action and so much more.”

Remus, “We do have a full format tonight, so let’s go ringside for our first match.”

The Wild Cats versus The Heartbreak Express

  • This was the second straight appearance in CWL for the OLLIE team. This is their last scheduled appearance, their original deal was only for two nights for the tournament. The Heartbreak Express definitely seemed excited for the international challenge.
  • For an opening contest, this was sensational. They weren’t going all out, it was clear they were just trying to get the crowd into the show. The teams had good chemistry and both were fan favorites so there was no one working particularly salty, instead it was two teams who respect one another trying to find out who is better on the night.
  • It was a real cruiserweight affair, with Liotta being the only person not classified as a junior heavyweight in the match.
  • There were lots of lucha spots in the match with Jaguar and Tigre getting to showcase their skillset much to the delight of the crowd in Texas -- that has a heavy Spanish-speaking population and lean towards enjoying lucha.
  • Needham hit his picture-perfect Moonsault onto El Jaguar to secure the win and the crowd was delighted.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, The Heartbreak Express defeated The Wild Cats in 10:27 when Johnny Needham defeated El Jaguar by pinfall with a Moonsault.

“The Headhunter” Jeffery Aroma versus Alex Ostlund

  • The second match of the night was completely different than the opening. The first match was a junior heavyweight showcase and more flippy-floppy but this was a bout between two big hosses.
  • Ostlund is a near 300 pound good-ol-Tennessee brawler and Aroma recently tipped the scales at almost 380 pounds of cornfed Nebraska powerhouse.
  • If Texas likes lucha libre, they love hoss fights. Two big powerhouses beating each other with stiff strikes and slams? That screams Texas and the match was well received.
  • Ostlund, in his fourth year as a pro, looked pretty good in this match but it was clearly Aroma that was leading him through. Aroma’s time with Riley and Bowen Services clearly paid off.
  • The strikes echoed around the building before Aroma finally managed to hit the Complex Choke Slam on the heavyweight.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Jeffery Aroma defeated Alex Ostlund in 6:30 by pinfall with a Complex Choke Slam.

Jo Gallagher versus Isabeau Grenier

  • As the match was going through introductions, Gallagher was announced as being full-time on the Triumph brand. The 21 year old is an Indiana-native who moved to Canada to train at the DeColt Powerhouse, apparently forgetting that they don’t have a women’s division. In her two years in the business, she has twice been the Texas Women’s Champion, with twenty-four total defenses across two reigns -- which is the most all time in the company.
  • Grenier was extra nasty in this match. It was clear that she didn’t like being the woman in the ring with the call up and she brought it to Jo as if to say ‘Welcome to the Main Roster’.
  • Jo was not frightened though and she fought back. She also got to showcase a bit of her maybe a little too-bubbly personality as she launched her offense.
  • Jo’s attempt at her favorite move -- the Two-Faced Roundhouse Quick (where she feints the kick to get you to block one side and then comes to the other) was blocked and Grenier hit her Wonder F-5 and that was that.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Isabeau Grenier defeated Jo Gallagher in 9:20 by pinfall with a Wonder F-5.

Hijo Del Relámpago and Hurakan versus Circus of Death

  • The next match was very much a pure lucha-libre contest as the veteran team Circus of Death was making their debut against Hurakan and an also debuting Hijo Del Relámpago. Relámpago is incredibly decorated, a former standout star of MPWF who has also worked extensively for BHOTWG whereas the Circus of Death have worked for both SOTBPW and WLW and despite not winning any titles as a unit, they have a lot of experience.
  • This wasn’t a great match, as three of the four men have past the eighteen-years-as-a-pro mark and their bodies are starting to give out on them.
  • Hijo Del Relámpago has definitely lost a step due to the physical toll that Japan took on him and Huraken had to carry the team.
  • It wasn’t a great match and the Circus of Death was really struggling with their wind but Hurakan did hit the Hurakan Roll to get the victory.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and non-existent crowd heat, Hijo Del Relámpago and Hurakan defeated Circus Of Death in 7:02 when Hurakan defeated Reaper Cicero by pinfall with a Hurakan Roll.

Hijo Del Relámpago was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

We cut backstage to where Ash Campbell was standing in front of the CWL backdrop. He had some choice words for Rick Law. Campbell has been channelling the same power that his father, Nemesis, had in his DAVE years. Campbell is tired of the wrestling business being okay with the status quo. He’s tired of guys like Rick Law holding the reigns. The wrestling business needs a shake-up and Campbell is going to be the one who leads it.

Dale Kingman versus “Flawless” Franklin Rush

  • Two products of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling were in this. Rush has been an internet darling who has yet to break out to the level that some of the internet fans would like to see him hit. Kingman is a solid hand who had been a part of the Animal Kingdom faction that had lost their masks to Aroma. Since then, he worked for RIPW for some seasoning and has come back to CWL. In the six months he’s been back, he’s yet to find the traction he has been hoping to, but a bout with a fellow graduate could be what both need.
  • It was a solid match, fundamentally sound with no real mistakes or sloppy wrestling -- it just didn’t get the crowd excited. Rush is manger-less with Bowen being gone and he looks like he might be trying to kick his performances up a notch.
  • At only five feet eight inches, Kingman is probably a little short to be a full star, but he is a Junior Heavyweight and could be a player there if he puts all the pieces together because the fans are definitely into his ultra-serious, “I-am-who-I-am” presentation.
  • Rush ended up hitting the Flawlessplex (Fisherman’s Suplex) with a perfect bridge to get the three count and a win that could have him headed in the right direction.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Franklin Rush defeated Dale Kingman in 8:35 by pinfall with a Flawlessplex.

jQ7bK2B.jpg

After the match, Rush took the microphone and addressed the crowd. Twice he’s been United States Champion. He has been a workhorse. He’s never complained, he’s done whatever he could to be the best wrestler he could be and he’s been stuck in the shadows of too many people. Now that he is on Triumph, he is going to prove that he is exactly what he has said he is. He is going to be the standard-bearer for Triumph and CWL on the whole. If you don’t believe him, just watch.

Teresa Newton versus Linda Crump

  • Two more women who cut their teeth in Texas, Newton a product of TCW School of Wrestling and Crump the Mid Atlantic Bootcamp. It was a good match between two fundamentally sound women that aren’t super-popular with the audience.
  • Neither of them scream charisma, but both work hard and in the performance-heavy CWL, they could become something special. It went back and forth with both women trying to hit their signature move.
  • Newton hit the Killer Palm Strike -- a palm strike that she delivers with force that would make even the toughest of competitors think twice -- on Crump and got the big victory.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Teresa Newton defeated Linda Crump in 7:47 by pinfall with a Killer Palm Strike.

Rick Law was up next. He understands that Ash Campbell thinks he’s got to prove something, but Rick isn’t the one to test. He didn’t fall off the turnip truck, he didn’t just get here. He’s earned everything he’s gotten through hard work and by being an honest man. If Campbell wants to try him, next week sounds like just a good as anytime to try.

Reaver versus “The Butcher” Alexander Vasquez

  • Reaver was making his debut here. He is a bonafide legend in the puro world. In his twenty-seven year career, he won ten championships in WLW and had wars with guys like Emerald Angel.
  • The Butcher was not phased by the momentum or the career or legacy of his opponent. He had something to prove. He wants to be known as the backbone of CWL. He has spent his entire six year career here. He has twice been the United States Championship, twice been the Television Champion, he was the Top Graduate, he was the COTT World Junior Heavyweight Champion, he has twice been the GWC World Junior Heavyweight Champion and he doesn’t want to be thought of as less-than-Reaver and he made that clear with every attack on the ageing warrior who is not the man he once was but is still a major name.
  • It was a good contest that probably could have been a minute or two shorter. It is also clear that both men were really going all out but Reaver was having some difficulty keeping up with Vasquez.
  • Reaver did show the stiff strikes that made him famous, but ultimately the Side Blaster from Vasquez got him the win and the first successful title defense of this reign.

In a good match, Alexander Vasquez defeated Reaver in 14:30 by pinfall with a Side Blaster. Alexander Vasquez makes defence number 1 of his CWL Television title.

Jeffery Aroma just carried a nobody to a B-. If that doesn't scream future world champion I don't know what does!

Also I didn't realize Vasquez was so accomplished, he has very very quietly put together a near Hall of Fame career in CWL. Among RMW Dojo graduates definitely one of the GOATS along with Devil's Rejects.

RZnRndM.jpgZKuwaEu.jpg

Bambino, "Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting and thrillpacked episode of Saturday Night Slammasters. I'm Lee Bambino and as always I'm joined by my broadcast partner Ricky Dale Johnson. Ricky, tonight Wolf Hawkins has a non-title singles match. With a title defense against Spencer Spade in two weeks, do you think this is a good idea?"

RDJ, "I definitely do, Lee. As Champion, it is important to keep in the ring so you stay lose and in fighting shape. It is easy to get out of rhythm if you're only wrestling once or twice a month, so for the champion to take a non title match tonight, especially against somoene as talented as Sgt. Bison, that's going to help make sure he's ready for Spade."

Bambino, "But what if the champiuon gets hurt -- or loses?"

RDJ, "Well then we have a whole new road to travel down! And who doesn't love a new road?"

Turner Bradley versus Taylor Holemore

  • The opening contest pit two graduates of the Rocky Mountain School of Pro Wrestling against one another. It was also announced that Holemore was joining the Slammasters roster fulltime.
  • Holemore is in his fourth year as a pro and in that time he was able to become the Brass Knuckles Champion in TGL and proved himself to be an incredibly tough customer. The 262 pound Badger follows in the tradition of all of the Rocky Mountain school guys -- fundamentally sound with a solid grasp of the ring.
  • The match was not long, but it was a quality contest that showed some fire in the Puerto Rican native, Bradley, and Holemore. Holemore showed some flashes that were similar to SWF’s Steven Parker -- and when he hit a snap suplex and grabbed a leg. He locked in a wicked leg-lock that the announcers weren’t sure what to call, but is clear that it is a move that is going to become Holemore’s signature.

In an extremely short match, Taylor Holemore defeated Turner Bradley in 4:44 by submission.

The GWC World Tag Team Champions, C-V-2, came out to the ring. They announced that since the departure of Lisa Bowen and the dissolution of Bowen Services they have been hard at work trying to find appropriate representation for their careers and they have found it. They reintroduce Henry Garner to the audience. Garner had a short run with CWL before that ended with his team having to leave CWL, but through a loophole, C-V-2 is able to bring back the promising manager with his mother’s wealth behind him.

“Red Hot” Laura Flame versus Zoe Ammis

  • A very competitive bout in the women’s division. The experienced, well traveled twenty-year veteran Ammis against the nine-year pro with a black belt in karate and extensive kickboxing experience.
  • Flame seemed to be extra motivated on this episode with the arrival of her mentor on Triumph.
  • Ammis and Flame really went at it and while the crowd wasn’t super-into the match, the action was blistering. Flame hit several big body kicks that definitely looked like they hurt Ammis -- but Ammis is a product of the DeColts and she is not an easily subdued woman. She fought through the kicks and had Ammis looked like she was going to go for her Double Cross but Flame managed to escape her clutches and hit her Flame Fire Kick, the kick her mentor taught her and it helped her get the big victory.

In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, Laura Flame defeated Zoe Ammis in 6:01 by pinfall with a Flame Fire Kick.

Shaw & Yoder versus The Devil’s Rejects w/ February Malaise

  • Last week, the Devil’s Rejects combination of Dewes and Tully were unsuccessful against the United States Champion, Riley McManus, and Primus Allen. Tonight they were back in action against Jakob Yoder -- the original graduate of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling and his partner from RIPW, Gabriel Shaw.
  • Last week, the Rejects were impressive even in the loss, and this week they came out with serious intentions against the former RIPW Tag Team Champions -- who had a three year reign with those belts. It was a good match. Good tag team wrestling from four guys in good shape with good size. None of these men are guys who are going to come off the top rope or hit a hurricanrana or a tope suicido. These are four men who hit hard and solid and everything is snug and believable.
  • Shaw is probably the least physical of the four -- he is definitely more of an entertainer, but that worked to his and Yoder’s favor in getting the crowd on their side. Yoder, in particular, looked very impressive and the Mennonite Mammoth looks like he’s putting all of the pieces together, but unfortunately for him Gabriel Shaw got caught with a loaded glove from Brett Dewes, who then got his feet on the ropes and got the win.

In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, The Devils Rejects defeated Shaw & Yoder in 9:41 when Brett Dewes defeated Gabriel Shaw by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage.

Todd Martin versus Moloch w/ Father Grim

  • Todd Martin, another Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling graduate that has been spending time in TGL was getting a chance here against Father Grim’s Moloch -- one of his two monsters in the Fallen (along with The Acolyte).
  • This was not a good contest at all. Not only were the fans not into this, it was very sloppy. Moloch only three years into the sport and is clearly still developing and Martin only has one year on him and the 283 pounder from Minnesota isn’t particularly polished either and it made for an affair that wasn’t good television.
  • It also probably went on a little longer than it needed to, especially with the lack of selling shown by Moloch -- so the match was mostly Moloch eating up a virtually unknown Todd Martin.
  • Moloch mercifully ended the match with his Deadline Screwdriver -- which is very visually impressive.

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Moloch defeated Todd Martin in 7:07 by pinfall with a Deadline Screwdriver.

America & Allen versus Strong & Tyler ©

  • The Women’s Tag Titles were on the line next in a very competitive match up. America and Allen aren’t a full time team, but you would have never known it by the way they worked together.
  • Strong and Tyler might be one of the best teams in wrestling, male or female. They just fit together and both have incredible wrestling pedigrees.
  • It was a very competitive match and the action was almost flawless. America was the worst performer in the match and even then she was still head and shoulders above what you’d find on USPW television.
  • Allen and Strong have incredible chemistry against one another and the moments they were in the match with each other were electric.
  • Ultimately, Strong hit the Angel Driver on Alina America to get the fourth successful title defense of the championships they’ve held since the end of January.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Alicia Strong and Brooke Tyler defeated Alina America and Amber Allen in 12:47 when Alicia Strong defeated Alina America by pinfall with an Angel Driver. Alicia Strong and Brooke Tyler make defence number 4 of their CWL Women's Tag Team titles.

Riley McManus & Primus Allen versus The Devil’s Rejects w/ February Malaise

  • Last week, Riley and Allen were attacked by the primary members of the Rejects and tonight they were in action against them.
  • While Riley and Allen are both superb wrestlers and Riley, in particular, has had major tag team success in his career, they are not nearly as polished as the winningest team in CWL history. The Rejects got to showcase the fluid teamwork they’ve built. Two big bad bikers that know each other and know how to work with each other and have that high-impact brawling style that mixes hard strikes with big power moves. There isn’t anything the Rejects do that is pretty, but it is all effective.
  • McManus and Allen did put up a great fight, but February Malaise’s interference allowed the Rejects to hit McManus with a Hell’s Ride and get a huge win.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, The Devil's Rejects defeated Riley McManus and Primus Allen in 15:02 when Keith Holly defeated Riley McManus by pinfall with a Hell's Ride after February Malaise interfered.

Wolf Hawkins versus Sgt. Bison

  • The North American Champion was in non title action against Sgt. Bison. Spencer Spade was ringside providing guest commentary throughout the match.
  • This was a big opportunity for Bison who has been earning rave reviews for his work recently and the internet scuttlebutt is that he is a real next big thing in pro wrestling and in CWL and in this match with Wolf Hawkins, he showed he could hang. While Wolf was clearly the general and clearly leading the match, Bison brought a saltiness to his work that we don’t usually see.
  • It’s common knowledge that a torn ACL kept Hawkins out of action for a long time when he was with TCW -- it was one of the things that derailed him in Cornell’s stable The Syndicate -- and Bison went right after that. He was vicious in the way he assaulted the knee.
  • On commentary, Spade was fully behind Bison, because he wants Wolf Hawkins to be in as precarious a position as possible for their battle at Fire on the Mountain.
  • Hawkins was able to battle back and the fans were really behind him when he hit Bison with the Full Moon Rising -- the running enzugari that has been his go-to match-ender for years. It looked like hitting the move was too painful for Wolf to make a cover, because he sold the knee brilliantly after the fact but he did make the cover and the champ got a big non title win, much to the disgust of Spencer Spade on commentary.

In an exceptional match, Wolf Hawkins defeated Sgt. Bison in 10:29 by pinfall with a Full Moon Rising.

Major Roster Changes Coming Soon?

Since Robert Oxford retired, the CWL roster has stayed relatively the same. There have been some call ups from the Texas Grappling League, and the addition of a couple of talents on shorter deals, particularly Junior Heavyweights. The word coming out of Denver is that many talents that are still on Pay Per Appearance or other short term deals will not be brought back or will be released. The plan from management is to create more spaces for developmental workers as well as clean up the log-jam in the roster so that the match-making committee can get a clearer picture of who will be on the shows moving forward.

This is a fluid situation so as more news develops or we get confirmations of who will be released we will let you know.
