[HYPE] CornellVerse 1931: The Forgotten Era

Recommended Posts

The year is a time long forgotten, long lost, and unrecorded in the history books... a time frame of wrestling where only one promotion lived through history... one promotion which was inevitably forgotten as well..

The year is 1931. there are 5 notable 'Territories' within the Wrestling Industry. Other than that there are small events and carnivals that occur every now and then and feature some wrestling. There are around 200 officially recognized 'professional wrestlers' worldwide and only a few of them are in demand for the territories. The biggest 'territory', Japanese company Giant Pro Wrestling, leader of the "Giant Era" in Wrestling, is a relatively big territory that houses many National Icons in Japan. It is largely responsible for the rising popularity in wrestling both in Japan and worldwide.

The hope for this mod is that it will be playable throughout all the events of the C-Verse canon; The Giant Era, The Territory Days, and SWF's domination of the 70s-90s all the way up to 2025, the last canon year with yet-to-debut workers. Obviously a majority of the workers in 1931 will be custom made for the mod, but I will try to stick within the realms of realism and real-world/c-verse events, though WW2 does not happen in this mod, due to the complications of the prospect of inserting a war into TEW. The mod takes place during the rise of the great depression, so it will be an extra challenge just to stay afloat as a company.

NOTE: This mod o' mine was originally intended to be worked on and released for TEW2016. Unfortunately, this never happened due to real life complications. However, I have decided to start the project anew, and what better way to announce it than doing so on the day the demo version is released? I will likely start working on this right away, and I hope I can do it - and those who take interest - justice this time around and provide everyone with the historical writing of the CVerse they crave!

RELEASE DATE: Who knows? I certainly don't.

Giant Pro Wrestling is the largest wrestling promotion to date. Based in Kanto, Japan, GPW is a mega-federation from before the dawn of sports entertainment. Truly utilizing the budding wrestling industry for all it's worth, GPW looks to expand and stay relevant for generations to come. With the best resources on the market in the 1930s, can you lead them to the modern era and evolve with the times, or will they fall by the wayside, stray from the path of greatness and lead Japan into a dark period of history much like the canonical lore?

Note: If someone could find me a better logo or even alt logos for this promotion it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

THE HEROES OF JAPAN

xEPEZML.jpgmREU0Ly.jpgtD7hRex.jpg

"The Hero" Kichibei Ishido (Age: 37); "The Death of Traditions" Yoritomo Shinmen (Age: 28); "The Excellence Of Puro" Benjiro Yashida (Age: 40)

The Japanese wrestling scene is thriving, and with many both old and young joining the growing industry, Giant Pro Wrestling is becoming a Pop Culture Icon, and alongside it, has created legends both current and in the making. These 3 are primary examples of this. Kichibei Ishido is a man responsible for having iconic matches with nearly anyone and as such has made his name known in the papers, and across the country. His primary adversary nowadays is the young, cocky Yoritomo Shinmen, who vows to destroy the "traditional" way of working and bring in a new era of wrestling. Benjiro Yashida, on the other hand, is a third wheel in the mainstream and in the GPW Main Event scene. Perfectly capable of selling out seats on his own, he just doesn't seem to get the fans going as good as the other two do, but in turn Yashida is arguably the most talented man in wrestling right now, and the stories he can tell between the ropes far beat out those he would ever tell outside of them.

Tamasaburo Umeki (Age: 50); Kazuo Umeki (Age: 25)

The Umeki family is one quite well known in Japan, as many rich businessmen and scholars come from within it. So why on earth they would be involved in the wrestling industry is something that baffled people - at first. Tamasaburo Umeki realized the growing wrestling industry within his home country very early on, and directed a large sum of his own money towards funding Giant Pro Wrestling in 1910. Although many believe this was his own idea, it actually belonged to his youngest son, Kazuo Umeki, who forced him to go with him to local wrestling events in his teen years, and Tamasaburo, although enthralled, knew this was a business venture he needed to take to ensure his name goes down in the history books. Now 50, and with a growing beast of a company, he has successfully achieved his goal and has reportedly thought about handing the company down to one of his sons, if they ever become interested. Kazuo, on the otherhand, decided that business just wasn't for him and received wrestling training from his three heroes - Kichibei Ishido, Benjiro Yashida, and Yoritomo Shinmen, and now works for GPW, where he is starting to become known more for being a decent wrestler than the son of the owner.

I think it is best to move this to 1960. OLLIE is already in the game, GCG and CWB depute in 1960. The 1960's we see the depute of some of the other closed organizations with APWF, AAFW, TWL. Then you also have CPW in 1972, CWF 1974. Among the active organizations you have BHOTWG in 1966 and SWF in 1972.

I think 1960 will give you some foundation to start with. Some of the workers have already deputed (15 to be precise). As far as the CV goes, 1955-1960 is the dawn of Wrestling, that is where all the now deceased workers depute and that is when the gameworld begins.

I guess you could do pre-world war, but the risk of doing that is that some of those workers and companies will end up screwing up with CV-lore + history. If you want to create a CV universe specific to the game, a time frame from 1955 to 1966 is probably the best starting point.

CornellVerse lore actually goes back to the 1930s, at least. Giant Pro Wrestling is a canon company in the lore of the CVerse. :D

If I was feeling super ambitious, we could go back as far as the mid-1850s, as Japanese wrestling in the CV is recognized to have gone that far back.

It's mentioned here.

This mod will also follow along with the canon of the CV75/CV97 mods.

I did not know about that, well it is very weird that no belts or history was kept from those era's to give something to work on.

A majority of the pre-2004 stuff is hazy, like the British scene being non-existant, Australia's history not even being in the data and a bunch of belt lineages only going back to early 2000/late 90s outside of bigger companies like BHOTWG, or the old Territories.

I love mods that go way back... it'll be something different so definitely looking forward to this

Same for me, it would be great if Adam would update the CV history and add some of the characters from at least the 60-70s era to the game, if not as active characters, at least as deceased.

I know it could be a daunting task though if he’s not in the mindset for it. It also allows creativity to go wild for people who make mods in this period.

I’ll say this is an extremely interesting concept to go that far back in cverse “history”. Not much in the Giant era because of some shady dealings or scandal and then the dark era. But what if there wasn’t a scandal in Japan and no dark era that followed.

I look forward to seeing what you do with this fun but very ambitious project. Good luck
