I spent a few hours redesigning the profile pages for workers...

Hi SeedyNick, I really like what you're doing, but I have a recommendation based on your colorblindness. The layout of the colors on the screen layout is fine and readable, but the colors of the numbers/grades can be optimized.

Currently, you have the numbers set something like this:

Blue > Red-Orange > Yellow-Green > Yellow

IxUA13U.png

This is a problem to both colorblind and colorsighted people because in both cases the odd color out is Blue. It also starts with a cool temperature color and then switches abruptly to a warm temperature color, and then back to a cool temperature color and then back to warmth. This isn't intuitive to colorsighted people.

A better palette for both colorblind and colorsighted people looks like this:

Soft Red > Gold > Seafoam Green > Azure Blue

HTML notation: #e25656 > #ffd544 > #60e4a7 > #257fdb

vYNgEnF.png

Actual colors

Examples of how this palette is seen by people with colorblindness (for colorsighted people):

wIs3Hfu.png

Deuteranopic red/green colorblindness (most common)

TmK7Ek7.png

Protanopic red/green colorblindness

Eknstfj.png

Tritanopic blue/yellow colorblindness

This palette keeps the colors easy to identify for all kinds of colorblind people while retaining a visible and sensible transitional palette for colorsighted people (Red=bad, Yellow=OK, Green=good, Blue=great). It also makes the eye-catching color to people with red-green types of colorblindness (Blue) the most important color as it now appears only for the best stats.

Me too for all of this. First impression of the new game was so bad it prompted me to return to the forum for the first time in 8 years. I've owned them all, even bought the Comic Book game. the fact that I'm 'on the fence' says a lot :(

Maybe I had completely unrealistic expectations but I thought "this game has been rebuilt from the ground up" was going to mean a massive modernization. I appreciate the work involved but I'd maybe rather wait another year or something it it means it would have that modernization.

You and me both.

Awesome! Thanks man, this is really helpful. I’ll update and use your suggested colour hierarchy and palette for grading.

I’m also going to take on board some more feedback to the layouts and update both screens, then work on the following:

Office screen.

Booking screen.

Show screen.

That will hopefully cover most of the UI elements so everyone can get a vision of what’s in my head.

<p>Just updated the workers screen and the titles screen for those that are interested.</p><p> </p><p>

Workers Screen V2: <img alt="7C776J7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7C776J7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Titles Screen V2: <img alt="ScygdHR.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ScygdHR.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Colour grading system</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong>I've used a new colour system (thanks Poputt for the colour lesson!) which uses the orange as a base colour, and then I've lowered the opacity from 100 to 10 depending on the grade. EG. 90+ gets 100% opacity, 80-90 gets 90% opacity, and so on.</p><p> </p><p>

For reference, here's the scale I'm using for colour grading: <img alt="L8Vi5wm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/L8Vi5wm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

This hopefully looks better as grades are more of a heat map, drawing the eye to the most vibrant colour, or the highest rated skills / popularity.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Adding the map</strong></p><p>

I've also come up with a new concept on the workers screen for displaying each worker's popularity in a hopefully more pleasing way. I like the style of the dot map as it means each region can be individually graded based on their worker's popularity within each region. I've used the UK here because that's where I'm from.</p><p> </p><p>

Other changes have basically included cleaning up the overall spacing of elements to keep consistency, and testing out max lengths so that character lengths don't exceed space requirements.</p><p> </p><p>

Let me know what you think!</p>

Big props to Poputt for the colourblindness post - I'm red/green colourblind so that's actually really helpful for me.

Looking at the newest screenshots, it's really prevalent to me what a huge difference this colour scheme, the larger text, and the categorised skills make. It's so much easier to digest everything!

So, obviously, this concept is incredible. Have you been in touch with Adam to see if it’s possible for him to integrate any of your designs/ideas into the official release of this game?

Otherwise, for clarity, is this purely conceptual, or is this something you could see implemented as a workable mod or reskin of the game’s UI?

Absolutely amazing work! Thanks.

Fair comment but it's not true. I run a development agency and this kind of design is entirely possible as I've purely focused on layout, placement, and formatting. I haven't changed the datasets at all, and if anything I've reduced the amount of data required.

I know this isn't possible as a skin in the game's current design, of course. It’s not a skin, it’s a redesign mockup to show the kind of thing I expected from a sports management game in 2020, rather than the spreadsheet hell we got. I'm not sure why this thread has been moved to Mods section...

And what programming language are you using to actually code this kind of conceptual layout? The programming Adam uses has limited amounts of colors to use and png files are not an even an option. Again, your concept art is fantastic, but that's what it is.

Hi all,

So final screen design for a few days, I thought I'd tackle the office screen as that was a mess and really needed some love.

Office screen: 5zCPzdR.jpg

Buttons and navigation

I've moved all office-related buttons to the left to create a navigation, and all game option buttons to the top row, creating a master navigation for the game.

All buttons are exactly the same as the office screen, except I've had to remove a few that I feel were cluttering the screen up, and didn't need to be there. I've suggested nesting these buttons / screens in other areas of the game, kind of like sub-menus.

Buttons I've removed are as follows...

  • Announcers should be nested in TV and Events).
  • Owner Goals, Child Companies, Battles, Alliances, Dirty Tricks, and Talent Trades should be nested in Company Info.
  • Promises, Figurehead, Chemistry, Relationships, Training Facilities, and Contracts should all be nested in Backstage.
  • Size and Coverage should be nested in Broadcasting(?).
  • Ticket Prices, Merchandise, and Investments should be nested in Finance.
  • Drug Testing should be nested in Medical.

Notices

All notices and important info are in a priority-graded system on the right, I've used bells and exclamation points to show severe, important and non-important notices.

Emails

As Email is one of the ways the game communicates with you, I feel its importance should be raised, almost like a centralised place to work (like in a real office). I've also combined decisions into emails, it always seemed odd to me that there's a separate place to do contracts and business outside of your email inbox.

That's pretty much it aside from the design changes. Hope you like it!

While I think the work you've done is super good, I am wondering if this isn't able to be used as a skin, what is the reasoning you have to keep doing it? I mean unless you are working with Adam to find a way to implement it into the game and maybe have it be a future revision or something why put in all the work for no reason? I mean no disrespect like you do incredible work and maybe when the next TEW comes out Adam might be inclined to hire you which would be awesome. Just curious as to your motivations currently.

So frustrating this will never be the reality but really well done on what is a brilliant concept piece.

Would still love to see the booking screen and the results screen where you go through each segment (I can't think of what it's actually called).

I second that I would take another delay if it meant a UI even close to the standard of this.

Honestly, I continue because I enjoy it, I like getting great feedback from you guys, and I’m trying to inspire fixing the UI and design of a game series I’ve loved.

I’m only going to do a couple more screens anyway, as you said; not much point spending too much time on just concepts.
