TEW 2020 Small Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

It should still be there if you installed the retail version into the same place as the trial. Installing the retail version won't delete anything that isn't part of the original game (such as save files, mods, new pictures with different names, etc).

If it's not showing up in the list, it's most likely because:

- you've installed the retail version in a different directory (check that you haven't created a new TEW2020 directory inside the old one, for instance)

- either the old game or the new one wasn't started in admin mode, in which case if you search Windows for your save game name you should be able to find it and move it across.

Great thanks, I suspect it will be the admin mode issue as the new game is, but the beta wasn't.

This is probably a stupid question but if I bulk tape TV do I pay people per episode they appear on or is just one payment per taping? I would assume you run into penalties if you do this and use the same agents/referees etc?

Experimented on this for myself and turns out not only do you pay full worker costs for each episode (makes sense I guess) but also full production costs for every episode too? Makes it pretty much pointless.

You shouldn’t be paying full production for each episode. That’s not supposed to be, at least to the way I understand the feature to work, how it works.

Looking at it closer it seems like "Show Costs" were down but "Production" costs stayed the same per episode. Had I known that, I never would have recorded any TV, as I was only doing it to try and gain some popularity. The nerf to internet broadcasters meant I was never going to make any money from it anyway....

I probably need to start over, unfortunately. I can use the editor to fix things, but that feels too cheap. Another 2 months of TV tapings will cripple me though.

Where is the in-game difference between a loyal worker and a trueborn? I know the trueborn term from Japanese wrestling so basically trained by the company and signed right away I guess?

Is there anywhere I could read up more on anything loyalty?

Does it develop after a while or is it like it was in 2016?

Heya

I don't understand how popularity growth of a company works. The handbook says the popularity increase if your ratings are 5 above the company popularity in that location.

I play with MAW, having 25 popularity, and did shows of 31, 34, 36 and 43 so it matches the condition all the times. It even said that my popularity was increase in one region, but my popularity never went up. :(

First and second show I though there is some decimal and it's not showed up, but after my 44 ... well I don't know.

Did I understand correctly how it's working and therefore, why isn't it growing ?

It is probable that your popularity went up by less than a full point.

Correct. A "31" show for a 25 popularity will raise it by definition, but it'll most likely by by 0.1% as it's a very narrow boost.

Too bad we can't check this in the editor. It would've saved a lot of virtual ink, given lots of people asked this before.

I'm losing around $50,000 a day as the WWF in 1983. If I dont find a way to stop this bloodshed I'm going to lose my company. I know I'm not posting enough information, but I'll answer any question someone asks.

I have 2 weekly tv shows. One is an A show, one is B show. I have 2 broadcasters, 1 ppv and 1 commercial. Most of my guys are on exclusive written deals. I thought the expenses for the broadcasters and the written deals were due at the end of the month. But even so, 50k is a heavy price to be hit almost every day.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I've got questions:

1. What's month in '83 is your game?

2. You state that you have 2 broadcasters (1 ppv and 1 commercial). Are those broadcasters that you started (that is, that WWF created and owns)?

If the answer for that second question is "yes", that might be your issue. And, also, if I may be so blunt: why? '83 is way too early for wrestling promotions to start their own TV networks.

If these are broadcasters that are owned by the promotion, I'd suggest you dump that idea, because you're spending too much on them. Instead, sign up the TV shows on a commercial broadcaster, and split the revenue with them. In '83, WWF was on WWOR, a semi-national superstation at the time (not as wide ranging as TBS, but available in large swaths of the US during that period). You can also sign up to air on USA Network (although Vince didn't do that until Sept. '83, and that was for All-American Wrestling, not the main shows - Championship Wrestling and All-Star Wrestling). Vince paid up front to the networks for those as opposed to paying a weekly fee like other promoters did (so I think in-game there should be no weekly or monthly fee involved) and he got a bit of the ad sales revenue.

You won't earn as much, but you'll also not be spending as much because it's not your own network and you're not paying the overhead for that.

You should also have a broadcasting deal with USA Network for events, as USA did air a few big house shows from the Capital Centre (and before that, out of MSG). Think of them like pre-SNME events, with the opportunity for increasing popularity across the country (albeit not nearly to the same level as SNME did because that was on NBC).

As for PPV: IMO you should set the PPV broadcasters to have tiny or very small coverage. Or set the era in the database to reflect that PPV ratings are "much lower" from whatever the default is. PPV was quite small in '83. And, if you want (for historical accuracy's sake), set up a PPV "network" with the title "Closed Circuit" with a closure date of about '88 or 89, creating one for each region of the U.S. Coverage size should be medium or so for that (depending on how you set up the era, if you did).

Also, set the era to "strict usage" in the database. That way other companies can only negotiate with PPV for events, and other broadcaster types for TV shows. It gimps them, yeah, but otherwise they'll all sign PPV deals if they can, especially if you haven't set the PPV broadcasters' minimum requirements to only focus on larger (for the time) companies (like a WWF or JCP or even AWA). And you'll definitely want to make sure that most broadcasters (especially all of the PPV broadcasters) have the requirement of "company base" set up to whatever the broadcasters' home country is, as that will ensure that foreign companies don't start launching TV shows in nations outside of their own (with a few exceptions, IMO, as we did have things like US companies airing wrestling shows in the UK and AU, and even Japanese companies airing stuff in small US cable channels).

Essentially, in '83 you want to have a database that gimps non-terrestrial/over the air commercial broadcasters, subscription networks, and PPV from how we know them today. Cable TV networks, for the most part, should have small coverage at most, unless they're something like TBS or USA, in which case they'd have medium sized. PPV, unless it's the aforementioned "closed circuit", should be tiny to very small. Since the start date is in the '80s, you'll already be in the pre-internet streaming era, so you don't have to worry about that.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but playing as SWF and I need to have 5 ongoing storylines rated over 70. If I end some storylines at my upcoming PPV and that is what takes me below having 5, will I still get penalised or not?

Yes. The requirement is absolute. If you're required to have 5 ongoing storylines over 70, the show after you fall below that mark will be penalized (maybe even the show where you fall below that - like if one of your storylines has a disastrous segment and falls below 70).

Is it possible to have other promotions than your own on your own broadcaster in this game?

Only if you own them.

Did I understand correctly how it's working and therefore, why isn't it growing ?

Leave TEW16 (and earlier) behind. This version is a lot tighter with regard to popularity growth.

I did a quick three week/event test on release day to see just how much Adam tightened up this area and whoa, he wasn't playing around.

QAW at Small with 37 popularity in the Mid South, put on two TV shows and a PPV on networks (iCommercial and iPPV) with 'Enormous' level coverage across all game areas.

TV shows rated 82 and 94. PPV rated 94. Promotion's popularity after the PPV was 42 in Mid South.

You read that right. 5 points of popularity for three shows rated 45-50+ points above popularity.

Stay the course. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

This has probably been asked but I couldn't find it.

When I'm booking my show I want to book it in descending order, the opening segment on top and the main event on bottom. I was able to figure out how to book the main event last, but I can't figure out how to put it in descending order so that the main event is on bottom and not on top despite still being the last segment. I hope this makes sense.

How much money can I expect from a weekly TV show in wrestleworld? Saw that the smallest broadcaster is willing to take me on at 25 pop but the only catch is that i would have to boost my Music production to inhouse, which comes with an extra 10,000 dollar a month fee.

Im barely making a profit running 1 show a month as it is. Most of that is coming from my sponsership money. Wrestleworld is an internet subscription model. Do you think it would give me close to or more than 10,000 a month? I dont want to bump up my production to get a tv show to only get like an extra 300 dollars per show.

Basically, will gettin a show bankrupt me or is it a good idea here?
