Paul Heyman's TNA 2010 | The Young, Hungry, Aggressive Alternative!

In January 2010, Hulk Hogan debuted in TNA Wrestling, and sparked a series of changes designed to ignite a new "Monday Night Wars" in Pro Wrestling. Some of those changes were seen by fans as TNA going away from their own indentity, and attempting to create a "WWE lite" type product. The switch back to a four sided ring, from the iconic "6 Sides" was a symbolic gesture of what was to come. Over the next few years, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff's creative vision for TNA played out, with a number of "TNA Originals" becoming causalities of the new regime. It is generally accepted that when Hulk Hogan left the promotion, it was in a worse condition than when he found it.

This alternative timeline, made possible by Steesh07's January 2010 mod (http://greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545504 - currently in beta), poses the question of "What if Paul Heyman took over the promotion at this time?"

During late 2009 and throughout 2010, there were rumours that Dixie Carter, and in particular TNA Impact's network Spike TV, were interested in bringing Paul Heyman to the promotion, Talks between the two parties ultimately broke down, but Paul Heyman would later lay out his vision for the promotion in interviews during 2010 . His long-term vision would see TNA fire all but one of their over 40 competitors, and focus on a young, hungry and aggressive marketing campaign, built around the wrestlers commonly referred to as the "TNA Originals". AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Amazing Red, The Motor City Machine and Beer Money were all names directly quoted by Paul Heyman, and it is using this blueprint that I will look to book Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2010.

<p>Really strong first show, I'm in.</p><p> </p><p>

The Hardy pick up was an absolute no brainer. Less than 12 months prior he was on a par with Cena in terms of merch sales and arguably the hottest star in wrestling at that point. </p><p> </p><p>

Hopefully this isn't the end of BL and he sticks around. Really he should have been positioned as one of TNA's biggest stars from the off. Man that TNA 2010 roster was just awesome. </p><p> </p><p>

Also I'm kinda glad you passed on RVD. Felt his run at TNA was really poor and did nothing for me with his title reign representing a lot that was wrong with the Hogan / Bischoff booking.</p>

Really enjoyed the first ep mate, will definitely be following this. Just make sure you push Hamada <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Although if you could have signed him for say a 6 month run to come in, fail at getting the World Title then maybe put over some X-Division guys it would have been a great storyline to cement the whole changing of the guard. But matching WWE's 3 year offer I think would fly in the face of what you're looking to achieve here.</p>

As well as I think merch money which I'm not allowed to match anyway. The money can definitely be spent better elsewhere, and hopefully my first few signings hit the ground running.</p>

The Difficult Second Episode + Roster Overview | Episode #2 | Paul Heyman's TNA 2010

I'm curious, which product are you using for TNA?

It is set as "Classic Sports Entertainment". I'd like to be able to evolve it over time, but it doesn't look like Dixie will let me.

<p>Another good show and looking forward to the PPV. Would definitely be a buy with that main event and Wolfe vs Hardy.</p><p> </p><p>

Quite digging the Team 3D & Rhino angle at the moment and interested to see how it develops. Also Anderson better on the mike than Sting? I'm dubious...</p>

Another great episode mate, really looking forward to seeing where you're going with this!

Thank you, hopefully the PPV is even better :)

Another good show and looking forward to the PPV. Would definitely be a buy with that main event and Wolfe vs Hardy.

Quite digging the Team 3D & Rhino angle at the moment and interested to see how it develops. Also Anderson better on the mike than Sting? I'm dubious...

Yeah, they had some good matches in reality, but the way the match at Genesis went down was a little dubious. Glad you're enjoying Team 3D & Rhino, it's kind of a case of me not knowing 100% what to do with them, and letting that play out and see what comes of it. I do have a bit of direction for them, but that could change at any point.

where do i get the mod?

http://greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545504

Loving your YouTube diary some interesting stories going on, love the vision but feel having Sting and Foley with occasional appearances will be good as their stats will help elevate / teach others.

They do feel too good to just bin off, especially when they're so much better than everybody else in certain aspects. I think as long as the focus stays with the youngsters, there is no harm in maybe keeping them around. I have ideas for both Sting and Foley, but wasn't 100% sold on doing them. The consensus seem to be to make the most of them, while I can, so I'm thinking I'll go ahead.

You could always have Heyman explain Sting as the Terry Funk of TNA, the one legend there to selflessly help the younger guys.

I quite like that and will keep it in mind if/when I do decide to bring Sting back on screen. They pretty much did middle aged and crazy Sting during the Hogan Era, so it might not be too far off of a comparison :D
