This is both a dynasty and an attempt to showcase TEW 2020's new features.

 

I, for one, am intrigued by the many new options, and impressed with the new game -- it's in far better shape at Launch than TEW 2016 was, for example.

 

Primarily, I will be examining the new product system. At the start, I am going to play TEW as two Japanese companies: Burning Hammer and PGHW. The diary will examine PHGW primarily.

Close, but they kept their space, something had gotten in the way. And finally, the battered body lowered into the ground, had given all it could.

 

The rain poured on the outskirts of Kansai prefecture. Small, swampy patches mud patches fell on the ground. Shoes dirty from the walk.

The desk, usually tidy, was covered with spoiled chicken and sake. He hadn't slept in far too many hours.

 

 

He'd been drinking. Who could blame him? So much responsibility put upon a young man. A star, an artist, and now, a promoter.

 

A busy man.

 

 

Worried, the two friends were at the door. What was going through him? True, Seiji had been discontent, upset the past few months, as his beloved uncle Sadahuro slowly fell into old age, his wit dulled against the time.

 

He was with the gods now.

 

 

One puts his hand on the other, and they enter the room, without permission.

 

 

Jimbo-san: Tatsuko-San! Inuki-San! You dare disturb me!

Tatsuko-san: You've been holed up in here for hours, Jimbo-san. We all miss Sadahuro. He was a great warrior, and fought until the end.

Inuki-san: Yes, well spoken, Tatsuko-san.

Jimbo-san: He gave his life to the business, his body broken by wrestling. As you aware, I am the lead owner now.

Tatsuko-san: Yes, I am aware, Jimbo-san.

Inuki-san: Agreed.

Jimbo-san We must make some changes, to protect our wrestlers.

Tatsuko-san: What madness you speak! Abandon the King's Road style! Jimbo-san, you disrespect your late uncle, a legend!

Inuki-san So soon after his death, what will the people say?

Jimbo-san: Enough! Tatsuko-san, be reasonable. We will still have The Kings Road Style, changes will be made.

 

At this point, Tatsuko-san and Inuki-san talk among themselves. Tatsuko makes an answer.

 

 

Tatsuko-san: Jimbo-san! You can't do this! Have gone mad?

Inuki-san: He has been drinking, Tatsuko-san!

Tatsuko-san: Then, have you learned nothing from Burning Hammer? The ruin that comes from change!

 

Jimbo-san: We can't continue to work at this pace, Tatsuko-san.

 

Inuki-san and Tatsuko-san stare in shock.

 

 

Tatsuko-san: Taken immediately, accept my resignation. You bring disrespect to your family.

Inuki-san: I support your decision. We must leave, Tatsuko-san.

 

The two depart the office. Clearly, upset, but not hurt.

 

Jimbo-san swigs slowly at the bottle of sake, swishing the rice liquor around in his mouth.

• A tag team showcase, with each wrestler getting a chance to show off their skills.
  
  
• There’s a bit of miscommunication between Kitoaji and Makiguchi. They’re not quite working well as usual.
  
  
• Both Percival Swallow and Harold Martin look strong. Martin, in particular, threw around smaller opponents.
  
  
• Makiguchi eventually gets Statler with a flash pin, rolling him up for the win.

• Reaver tries to get Warbler on the ground. While he has some early success, Warbler every bit was his match overall – Reaver can’t get the advantage.
  
  
• Eventually, Warbler starts to overpower Reaver with some stiff strikes. However, he gets a bit too cocky, and Reaver outmaneuvers him.
  
  
• Warbler gets a near fall, and gets Reaver close to tapping out with the Warbler Wrench
  [Half Nelson]
  . However, Reaver refuses to give.
  
  
• The finish sees Reaver leap from the top rope and roll Warbler up with a Sunset Flip.
  
  

Reaver defeats Cyril Warbler with a flash pinfall after a sunset flip! Reaver makes defense #5 of his PGHW International Title!

• Danny Beast & Timmy West are out next. They’re challenging the current champions, Yano & Kikichi, who jobg slowly down to the ring.
  
  
• All four guys are absolute powerhouses, working at a slow but deliberate pace.
  
  
• Both teams batter each other for several minutes, with Kikichi’s hammering blows standing out.
  
  
• Eventually, Kikichi manages to isolate Timmy West in the friendly corner. He brutalizes Timmy West with the Kikichi Crush, covers… no! Danny Beast breaks it up just before the count – near fall!
  
  
• Danny Beast goes on a run, knocking BISON Yano from the apron. Fresh, he lands several stiff moves to Kikichi, before hitting him with the power press

• Magnum Kobe comes out next. He gives Beast & West some love, slapping the hard earned title belts slung over the new champions shoulders .
  
  
• Keiji Takano makes his entrance. The PGHW Historical Japan title strapped around his waist.
  
  
• Cautious, and a bit intimidated, Takano timidly begins to attack Kobe.
  
  
• Early on, he leverages his strength to keep up with Kobe, and controls the pace.
  
  
• Magnum Kobe catches on, and speeds the match up. He deftly dodges Takanos strikes, rolling through a lariat. He lays into his opponent with several swift kicks.
  
  
• Once Magnum Kobe heads to the top rope, he has the clear advantage. He lands a several dropkicks, before hitting what looks like a brutal senton. The dazed champion rolls from the ring to recover.
  
  
• Keiji Takano attempts to re-enter, but Magnum Kobe lands a Kobe Bomb
  [Diving Meteora]
  from the turnbuckle to the outside! Keiji crashes into the barricade!
  
  
• Kobe rolls the champion back in and goes for the cover. We have a new PGHW Historical Japan champion!

, headed the other way, walks past him. Feeling disrespected, the challenger grabs the champion. Jimbo pushes him back – turns back around –Matsuki blindsides Jimbo! Jimbo stumbles, Matsuki lays into his stomach with a stiff kick to the stomach! Matsuki gets Jimbo in the mount and lays in several stiff punches to the champion! Soon after, the locker room clears out, pulling the two athletes apart.

Matsuki shadowboxes in silhouette, at the top of the entrance ramp. He’s accompanied by several fans moving down to the ring, lip syncing the chants in the theme. He takes off the towel from his shoulder, lays in a few more swift punches, before settling into the corner.

Seiji Jimbo poses in silhouette with arms held high. An assistant puts the belt around his waist. Jimbo walks slowly down to the ring. He’s disheveled, a bit unsettled, but confident. Matsuki left a few bruises on the champions forehead. Otherwise, Jimbo appears in fighting shape. Seiji hands the PGHW Glory Crown to the referee.

 

Match starts. Matsuki goes after Jimbo, again with all his might. He lands several punches to the champion, forcing Jimbo to the ground. Jimbo crawls to the corner, Matsuki crowds him, and the referee breaks it up.

 

Jimbo looks pretty battered. His mouthpiece has fallen sideways in his mouth. The two stand off against one another, the challenger about a head taller than the champion. The ref re-starts the match, and Jimbo shoves the challenger. Matsuki lunches at the champion, Jimbo rolls through – dropkick! Matsuki cascades into the ropes. Spear! Seiji has him down! The champion works over the legs for several seconds. Matsuki writhes!

 

The challenger grabs the ropes, Seiji lets go. The ref restarts the match again. This time, it’s a clean start, and Matsuki knocks Jimbo down with a vicious left hook. He pounds away at Jimbo from the mount, before Jimbo manages to pull Matsuki into full guard, and again works away on the legs! Jimbo strikes Matsuki in the calf – the champion laying on the challenger with the elbow and knee! And then a fist drop! Jimbo climbs up to the top rope – Matsuki catches him in mid-air! The two struggle a second for position. Seiji reverses it! He hits a Tilt-A-Whirl DDT!

 

Seiji goes for the pin. No! A two count.

 

Matsuki at this point is desperate to regain control. He's clearly battered. Seiji dodges the first punch, manages to arm drag Matsuki to the ropes – Matsuki lays the champion out with a shoulder block! Seiji is in trouble! He’s busted Seiji wide open and blood seeps into the mat!

 

The referee temporarily stops the match, to check on Seiji, and clears the champion to continue.

 

Matsuki again goes on the offensive, but Seiji manages to roll through. It’s clear the challenger was frustrated by the decision to check on the champion. He’s getting frantic and careless, and it shows. Seiji uses Matsuki’s strength against him and tires him out. Matsuki gets a couple leg kicks to Seiji, but the momentum has shifted. The champion trips up Matsuki with a drop toehold, and again wrenches the legs. Matsuki clearly is in pain by this point, breathing heavily and wincing. After a couple agonizing minutes, Matsuki manages to make it to the ropes.

 

The referee re-starts the match.

 

From ring bell, Matsuki lunges at Seiji, and takes him down. Seiji quickly moves to the full guard, bridging out. Matsuki reaches for the ropes, but Seiji breaks the hold, and pulls himself atop the turnbuckle! Matsuki struggles to his feet – the challenger catches the champion in mid-air! The champion quickly adjusts and pulls Katsushige into the Seiji Ocean Lock

[Octopus Stretch]

! Matsuki struggles, stumbles to one knee, and eventually has to tap out!

 

Seiji Jimbo d. Katsushige Matsuki after Jimbo forced Matsuki to submit with the Seiji Ocean Lock! Seiji Jimbo makes defense #2 of the PGHW Glory Crown Title!

 

Seiji Jimbo has defended his championship again! Bloodied and battered, he retrieves the PGHW Glory Crown, and walks slowly up the ramp. Matsuki, clearly in severe pain, takes several seconds to get up. He has to helped from the ring.

• Yasuda takes the upper hand -- he has all the momentum. Ambushing Miyamoto upon his ring return, Yasuda lays into him with several stiff kicks, before throwing him to the ropes -- that's a lariat on the return! Encore, Yasuda hits another lariat to Miyamoto!
  
  
• Yasuda continues to work over Miyamoto in an attempt to out-strike him. He's working over the head, much like a boxer, with strong knees and strikes. He eventually gets Miyamoto into the double underhooks -- aiming for a strong knee, and attempts to pull him up. Miyamoto reverses it! He's taken control in the clinch!
  
  
• Miyamoto pulls him up -- release powerbomb into the top turnbuckle! Miyamoto hits a knee, another knee, rolls over -- he pulls Yasuda into the STF!

• The two opponents shake hands, signifying a fair fight.
  
  
• Brute Kikuchi charges at Magnum Kobe -- going for a Lariat, but Magnum Kobe slides through.
  
  
• Having scouted Magnum Kobe, the announcers speculate Kikuchi notices that his much smaller opponent has been dominant -- they speculate that Brute wants to throw everything in a attempt to overwhelm Magnum.
  
  
• Brute starts with a hit-and-miss offense. He's wearing down his smaller opponent, but Magnum wisely controls the pace.
  
  
• He connects with a Lariat -- knocking Magnum to the ground! Brute has gotten in all the offense so far... but Magnum backflips, ducks under a Lariat, grabs onto the ropes. Kikuchi lunges -- Magnum hits him with a springboard cutter! Magnum Kobe ties him up in the ropes.
  
  
• Referee threatens the DQ -- Kobe eases off -- and sends Kikuchi out with a baseball slide! Kikuchi is on the floor! Kobe pulls himself to the top rope -- slingshot senton to the outside! He pulls himself up on the barricade -- Springboard Moonsault!
  
  
• The referee begins to count out both wrestlers. Magnum quickly rolls into the ring. Kikuchi, demoralized and hurt, barely manages to make it into the ring -- Kobe unleashes a flurry of kicks to Kikuchi's forehead! Blood seeps onto the mat!
  
  
• Now firmly in control, Kobe seems content to toy with his much bigger opponent. He pulls Kikuchi to the ringpost, slumps him against the ringpost -- Superkick! Blood seeps down Brute Kikuchi's face, a crimson mask! He falls onto the mat. Kobe pulls himself onto the ring post -- Kobe Bomb

Tag Team Showcase:

Busso Makiguchi & Chojiro Kitoaji vs. Dean Waldorf & Marv Statler

• Dean Waldorf and Busso Makiguchi start out as the legal men. The two engage in a quick, but slick, opening exchange. Makiguchi manages to get the upper hand, working over Dean Waldorf – Waldorf uses his muscle to overpower Makiguchi and even things up.
  
  
• Makiguchi sends Waldorf to the corner, tags in Miyamoto – who hits a slinghot DDT to Waldorf! Both teammates lay into Deadly Dean for several seconds before Kitoaji takes control. He lays into Waldorf – beating him down with hard strikes, before sending him to the corner. Kitoaji charges, but Marv has made the tag! He headbutts Chojiro! Once! Twice!
  
  
• Kitoaji has the early advantage, but the numbers game wears him down. After Waldorf returns to ringside, Chojiro tags in Makiguchi.
  
  
• The two get in a few double team moves. Marv clearly at this point is reeling, struggling to get in his partner for the hot tag. Eventually, Makiguchi and Marv get to go at it one on one.
  
  
• Makiguchi picks up Marv with the double overhooks, Marv reverses it with a Russian Legsweep! Makiguchi rolls to his feet – Marv lands a dropkick! Makiguchi goes flying into the enemy corner! Tag to Dean – Makiguchi is in the Tree of Woe position! For several seconds, both partners work over Makiguchi’s legs.
  
  
• Eventually, the referee breaks it up. The announcers explain since Makiguchi was not tied in the ropes, the head official Shihei Nagano had to wait for the corner break to re-start the match.
  
  
• Match re-start. Dean Waldorf gets the jump on Makiguchi. He puts him in a side headlock – Makiguchi manages to reverse it. A struggle for position ensues. Waldorf throws Makiguchi over with a back body drop! Makiguchi is the enemy corner!
  
  
• Waldorf tags in Statler – the two pull up Makiguchi and hit the Wheelbarrow Bomb

• There’s a quick charge to the ring, some confusion, but Kitoaji knows what happened. Since Waldorf made the tag for a double team move, he was the legal man for the first pinfall, but not after he left the ring – Statler was the legal man.
  
  
• The announcers note this should’ve been clear to Makiguchi, but state that this was definitely unsportsmanlike behavior from Waldorf & Statler.

Kawashima has an elaborate entrance. Pink streamers fall down from the ceiling, as both Kawashima and Maruya dance down to the ring, Kawashima in a pink jumpsuit, his partner in an elaborate pink, victorian dress. Kawshima places his partner on the announce table before rolling into the ring.

 

He leads the recalcitrant crowd chanting the chorus, with most fans eventually joining in along with Maruya.

Seiji Jimbo comes out. Blue smoke fills the entrance way. He holds the title up high, and begins to walk down to the ring. There’s a bandage above his left eye, trying to patch a much larger wound than it was designed for. Jimbo has a slight but visible limp, which contributes to his pedestrian pace down the ring.

 

The referee starts the match. It’s clear from the very beginning that Seiji Jimbo isn’t in condition to compete. He moves slowly, and when Jimbo locks up with the challenger, looks tentative. Kawashima pushes Jimbo back, and Jimbo rolls under the bottom rope. He needs to regroup.

 

As the referee begins counting, Jimbo waits seven, and then eight, seconds before rolling back in. Kawashima begins to work him over. He moves slowly, strikes with forearm strikes, leg kicks and knee strikes. With each strike, Jimbo looks weaker and weaker. His limp more pronounced, each step visibly painful.

 

Jimbo rolls out of the ring again, taking the time to catch his breath. Kawashima goes for a tope to the outside – the champion dodges it at the last second! Kawashima slams into the barrier!

 

Both the Champion and the Challenger began to make their way into the ring about the same time. Seiji Jimbo, seeing the advantage, lunges at the Challenger, who leapfrogs him – and pulls Jimbo into a sleeper hold! Seiji is caught in the center of the ring, and he’s in serious trouble! This goes on for a few minutes, both competitors desperately struggling for position, before Seiji Jimbo manages to reverse the move into the Ace Crusher! Both men are down in the center ring!

 

The exhausted champion attempts to get to his feet. The challenger, dazed, quickly gains his bearings. Kozue Kawashima gets to his feet first! The two lock up, the challenger strikes the champion with a brutal elbow to the head! Kawashima slams Jimbo with another elbow strike, and blood seeps onto the mat! The challenger works over the hurt leg, for several seconds, with stiff strikes and elbows! The champion has been busted wide open!

 

Kozue Kawashima hooks Seiji’s hurt leg, pulls him up into the Fireman’s Carry stretch. The Champion makes a desperate struggle for position, attempting to reverse it – Kawashima wrenches the Champion with his forearms and slams Seiji Jimbo into the mat with the Kawashima Driver 2005

Both competitors shake hands, and the referee hands the belt to Kawashima. We see a brief picture of both competitors celebrating before the broadcast fades out.
