Confession of a Digital Booker

Recommended Posts

I have been doing this for so long... It's time to come clean. Even though the universe I've created doesn't involve all of you, you are a part of this too and I begat you to confess your own TEW 2020 Booking Sins.

- I have done things with the editor that I shudder to say aloud. Changing contracts of performers to suit my liking both their terms and riches (oh their children!)

- I have even taken on the face of another booker only to release a worker or change a companies schedule that has nothing to do with me but only for my own interest I change the course of time.

- I have edited Broadcasters so that I could work with them without beholding to strict rules...

Also when I play 90's real world mods you can bet two things.

1. I will always push Tatanka to be my 2nd top babyface.

2. I will always sign and give Dan Severn higher entertainment stats and over push him to the moon.

What are your booking SINS?

When I started my women's division in SWF, with my starting 7 women...I buffed their popularity after a few months through the editor. Brought all of them up to around the 40s in pop lol. Only time I plan I using the editor but the pop gains were so frustrating and the pop was so low I decided I just wanted to buff it myself. Now they're getting decent ratings match wise. I still kind of feel bad about it but it's the only time I've really cheated.

<p>Why do you guys not just shorten the contract lenght of the desired worker to 1 day? - He'll be gone from the promotion the next day and you can pick him up.</p><p> </p><p>

Personally I overpowered my user char in the first game. Killed a lot of fun, so I made him non wrestler in my 2nd.</p><p>

Otherwise Sole mild cheats here and there, for personal flavor. And a bis cash boost, so I can instantly create a dojo. - 12 months waiting period is long enough. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Started an AEW game from their first episode to now. Currently in mid-February and already I've cheated.

Boosted my popularity in order to get Becky Lynch to sign. Kept the popularity for a bit to sign better broadcasting deals before editing my popularity back down.

Edited worker popularity and stats to better reflect changes. Britt Baker getting better in heel work and entertainment skills, Hangman Page and MJF getting better entertainment skills, Scorpio Sky getting a minor pop boost to be midcarder after his series with Jericho failed to get him over.

Tried signing Brodie Lee so that he could be the leader of Dark Order, only for him to sign with WWE at the last moment. So I went into the editor, shortened his contract to a day, waited for him to be released then put in a bid. He's set to debut in March.

Shortened the contracts of everyone who was released back in April so that it mirrored real life. This also has the added benefit of boosting my own rosters.

From 2016 (still getting used to 2020): I used to pick 5 wrestlers at the beginning of each save and cut their remaining contract in half. First 5, not "well they don't have much time anyway" so let me pick someone else. This way I could get the people I really wanted but it wasn't so easy that it was devoid of excitement.

If I wanted a tag team I would edit the contract of the worker who had more time left to match the one who's contract was ending sooner. Example: Guide has 90 days left, Scout has 553 days. I'd edit Scout so he too had 90 days left.

Worse - I use to edit feds to be massively in debt so they went out of business and I could snatch their workers. That wasn't fun though, I'd just end up with a bloated roster without much excitement.

I do this at the database level before starting a save. My current save, I moved Missy Masterson from wasting away in USPW to headlining for QAW, and then I started the save. I also brought several people back to the business (the Neptune Twins, for example) and added them to the roster. Given the current data, I should probably go through and do that to a lot of other workers, just to give the women's scene a bit of a boost at game start.

Yeah, this makes perfect sense to me and I've always done the same. Teams that are established would typically have synchronized contracts. Wild Times, Good Lookin' Bunny, the New Wave, and so forth.

I have a list of real world moves that I create and rename in the game to use for my workers. I really dislike workers with finishers that stretch believability to its breaking point (belly to belly suplex, bulldog, etc). I also often give workers their mentor's finisher as an 'uber finisher'. So I have things like the Hatoyama Driver and Hatoyama Driver II (Michinoku Driver), Thunder Hike's Concrete Knot (

), Kira Lee with the J-Rocker, Black Diamond with Gail Kim's Eat Defeat, and so on.

The one big thing I do, and I've done since we were given the option to do so, is change the maturity age of all the women in the database to max (30). It always used to piss me off when some talents would just stop progressing in their early to mid 20s. I also set the retirement age to 45, since there are several useful talents who start the game pushing 40 (Viper McKenna, Connie Morris, Geena, Raven Nightfall, Steffi Chee, Eve Grunge, etc) but that can still teach and have good to great "soft skills" (psychology, selling, consistency, safety, etc) even if their "top line" skills aren't going to see any further growth.

I took some of the free agents and signed them to my developmental companies in the pre-game editor so that I don't have to spend the clicks to sign them. I restart a LOT, mostly out of testing, and can't be bothered to re-sign them.

I bid on stars I don't want then withdraw just to leave the AI with a bunch of crud jobbers who each make 20k/mo with 20% event and 40% merch. I am trying to stop this, but I've learned if I don't, then the AI swims in gold and spite bids me on everyone I want. If I do, the AI bleeds money, stops spite bidding against me on everyone I try to sign, and even releases a few people.

I've seen USPW, SWF, and TCW go bankrupt from these tactics. They only work for one reason - the AI doesn't bargain with its own interest in mind. It only seems to bargain in a way that forces (or tries to force) you to give veto power, wage matching, creative control, and percentage of events. So it's easy to stick the AI with these bad contracts.

My current game is the most nuts game I ever played financially, start as wwf in 91, inside a year I’ve made enough money to build a developmental centre, invest in my own tv network. Then inside 2 years NJPW and ajpw both were about to go bust so I bought them both, and then cmll... so they are all my dec companies on my ever growing tv network. Now I’m only a few years in the game and I’ve got all this plus about 200 million in the bank..... yes it’s competely unrealistic but I like the fantasy element and I feel I’ve got so much control. So I’m just gonna continue enjoying the fun. I’ve got Guerrero, Benoit, Jericho and more in developmental in NJPW. I could one day do a NJPW vs wwf invasion. It would be mint. Who cares for realism eh

Edit : I started the game early on in the game release so I don’t know if the game finances was just a tad broken or what but I’m happy with it whatever the case

I do the bottom one too but with old and broken down people. It's really fun to bait the AI into taking guys who can seemingly barely walk anymore without getting gassed

I'm here to confess that I up the stats of people who win championships by 3 points, and every champion gets stat boosts based on how many defenses they have. So, in my 2010 TNA game, AJ Styles has already had 8 defenses of the TNA World Title. If he were to lose the title in his next defense, I will boost all of his stats other than SQ, SA, ME, Rep, Exp, and Respect.

Same thing happened in my game regarding the financials

One thing I did without knowing otherwise (I used database before game) was set my broadcaster to Terrestrial Subscription. I since fixed it to Internet Subscription. I make a lot less money and a lot less views but I feel much better about myself. I was getting a stupid amount of views.

Since we can only use 4 minute Menace angles but angles have to be 6 minutes AND be rated either on Fighting or Entertainment, I give my monsters Charisma, Microphone, and Acting 75 and just run 6 minute Entertainment angles instead.

Menace, Sex Appeal, Star Power, and Charisma are only 4 minute angles, and are not good to rate 6 minute angles on. Fighting in angles isn't such a great idea, I've had people get injured or fatigued. Selling is useful if you have someone good at it. With this knowledge - if my top guys momentum starts to tank, I create an Angle, 6 minutes, 3 way storyline. I set the one with best momentum to "Defeat" and the other two to "Major Victory" and rate everyone on entertainment. This really helps save momentum or build it if you lose it. You can stick in several lower rank guys who are also in storylines, rated on entertainment, and pick one "Defeat" and one "Major Victory". They won't really tank the angle rating that much by being there. I've still gotten 80+ rated angles.

If I have someone with dead momentum or someone falls in status who I need higher up, I use 2v1 Handicap Matches where they and a Major Star beat another Major Star.

I set managers to "Major Role" in storylines so their Entertainment angles can advance Storylines and provide heat.

I have a few managers who are the leader of their stable, so their entertainment angle Major Victories give the stable nuclear heat.

If someone's momentum tanks, I make them successful in their storylines then yank them out and put them back in for a momentum boost.

I copied a save and went nuts on the in-game editor. The initial thought was, "lets see what could happen" and it was Pandora's box blown wide open.

First, I like working out of Japan in the game. So I started removing the "true born" status I found so pesky. Then I gave my company a billion and signed every top talent I liked. It was a fun lil' sandbox for a minute. Then I booked a year's worth of events, played them out, and went back to the OG save with a much better idea of what I wanted from booking.

It was fun for a minute, then it was really a grind. Kinda like the struggle as I learn situation.

I don't really care about money, and will go to the editor to give myself more when I need it. I still only hire workers to the bare minimum and won't give them more then I would if I weren't cheating and if another company tries to hire one of my stars away then it was meant to be and I won't try to outbid the competition, and I will only match the competition's production so I won't get a penalty, ticket prices remain default etc but if I am getting close to zero then I will give myself more money.

I do this all the time since I figured out how the AI treats contract offers. I haven't bankrupted anyone (yet) but there are a ton of women in CWA and USPW who are vastly overpaid (2-3 times their actual value).

I have a rule in all my saves: once you leave, you can't come back. So, for example, people like Jillian Jarvis who bailed on QAW find themselves unwelcome in the largest company in the world. Jillian's contract just came up and I'm letting CWA and USPW fight it out over her. I'm almost tempted to bid the price up but then that would be breaking my own rule (I'm not even going to give you the courtesy of a phone call). Especially since I just poached Sara Marie York. :D I make a couple of exceptions for The Bombshells (who didn't exist in TEW16), Celeste Moon, and Maribel Mercado. So when the likes of Amy St. James, Jaguar Queen, Estrella Blanca, Bam Bam Kijmuta, and Lady Lotus come up for renewal, their options will be limited to CWA, USPW, 5SSW, and maybe OLLIE (assuming they win the inevitable war with EILL).
