NJPW G1 Climax Night Fourteen- August 9th, 2022

Attendance: 6,000 at Hiroshima Sun Plaza (Hiroshima, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-Suzuki-gun's Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr., & El Desperado defeated young lions Kosei Fujita, Ryohei Oiwa, & Yuto Nakashima in a decent match. The three Suzuki-gun members completely dominated the young lions, but once again, Sabre stole the win from Suzuki, tagging himself in to make Nakashima tap out to Orienteering with Napalm Death. The two got into a heated argument afterwards, which was only broken up by Despy, who told them both to calm down. (70/C+)

-United Empire's Aaron Henare & Francesco Akira defeated CHAOS's Tomohiro Ishii & YOH in a good match. Both teams put in a good effort, but in the end (after about 13 minutes of action), Akira caught YOH by surprise with a beautiful Akira Sault! He then went to the top rope and hit YOH with the Fireball to get the three. (78/B)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Taichi defeated Satoshi Kojima in a decent match. The Suzuki-gun member won his first two points of the G1 Climax with this win over the veteran Kojima. Kojima put in a decent outing, but an underhanded low blow from Taichi sealed his fate. A Taichi-style Last Ride put the nail in the coffin for Kojima after about 11 minutes of action. (70/C+)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Claudio CSRO defeated Tom Lawlor in a good match. This match was intense, with both men beating the living hell out of each other for nearly 14 minutes. CSRO hit Lawlor with a variety of uppercuts and other stiff shots, while Lawlor threw him around the ring with some nasty suplexes. In the end, CSRO finished off Lawlor with Swiss Death. He then left his business card with Lawlor, saying that Team Filthy may need some new leadership. (80/B)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Will Ospreay defeated Toru Yano in a good match. Yano pulled out every trick in the book to get a win over the IWGP United States Champion, but it just was not enough to defeat Ospreay. After about 15 minutes, Ospreay hit Yano with the Hidden Blade and quickly followed it up with the StormBreaker for the three. (80/B)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Shingo Takagi defeated Jeff Cobb in a good match. These two men have put on great performances in the G1 Climax so far and that definitely continued tonight. Both men put on a very physical, stiff fight for nearly 18 minutes and it was really up in the air for who would win. In the end, Shingo was able to wiggle out of the Tour of the Islands from Cobb and hit him with the Last of the Dragon for the three. (82/B)

G1 Climax Block B Match: Tetsuya Naito vs Jay White

Tetsuya Naito defeated Jay White in a good match to close the show. White's been on a losing streak recently and that only continued tonight thanks to an excellent outing from the Los Ingobernables de Japón leader. Naito and White put on an entertaining brawl of a match for over 20 minutes, but in the end, Naito hit White the Destino after reversing the Blade Runner to get the three.

NJPW G1 Climax Night Fifteen- August 10th, 2022

Attendance: 6,000 at Hiroshima Sun Plaza (Hiroshima, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-United Empire's Will Ospreay, Jeff Cobb, & Francesco Akira defeated young lions Ryohei Oiwa, Kosei Fujita, & Yuto Nakashima in a decent match. United Empire completely dominated this match, with Cobb finishing off Nakashima in just under eight minutes after hitting him with the Tour of the Islands. (70/C+)

-Los Ingobernables de Japon's SANADA & Shingo Takagi defeated Suzuki-gun's Taichi & El Desperado in a good match. These two teams put on a surprisingly good showing, obviously trying to earn an IWGP Tag Team Championship match against FTR for Destruction. It was LIJ who came out on top though, with Shingo finishing off Taichi with the Last of the Dragon in just over 13 minutes. (80/B)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: Bryan Danielson defeated Great-O-Khan in a good match. O-Khan nearly put away the NEVER Openweight Champion on multiple occasions, even hitting him with a devastating Eliminator at one point! However, Danielson was barely able to kick out and kept on fighting. After about 14 minutes of hard-hitting action, Danielson managed to catch O-Khan in the LeBell Lock and get the submission victory. (80/B)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: Kazuchika Okada defeated EVIL in a good match. EVIL did his best to keep up with the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, but, even with help from Dick Togo, it was not enough to defeat Kazuchika Okada. After about 14 minutes, Okada finished off EVIL with a beautiful RAINMAKER!!! (80/B)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: Kaito Kiyomiya defeated Minoru Suzuki in a good match. The NOAH ace kept his recent hot streak going with a solid win over the leader of Suzuki-gun. Though that was despite a hell of an effort from Minoru, who beat the living hell out of Kiyomiya. Kiyomiya gave it right back though and after nearly 16 mintues of action, he finished off Minoru with the King's Road. (73/B-)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in a great match. Sabre kept his chances at winning Block A alive with a solid win over Tanahashi, who just can't seem to get a win recently. After about 18 minutes of fighting, Tanahashi tried going for the Texas Cloverleaf. However, he second guessed himself, instead going to the top rope and attempting the High Fly Flow! That failed, as Sabre rolled out of the way and quickly locked Tanahashi in the Orienteering with Napalm Death! Tanahashi had no choice but to tap out, keeping Sabre's G1 Climax hopes alive. (87/B+)

MAIN EVENT:

G1 Climax Block A Match: KUSHIDA vs Hiromu Takahashi

Hiromu Takahashi defeated KUSHIDA in a great match to close the show. This match was an intense affair, both men tore the house down here in Hiroshima. KUSHIDA was desperate for a win, having never beaten Hiromu since he came back from his excursion. There was always a good reason for that though and Hiromu proved it again tonight. After over 25 minutes of hard-hitting, high-flying action, KUSHIDA managed to lock Hiromu in the DEATH LOCK! However, Hiromu was able to muster up enough strength to get up (while still locked in the DEATH LOCK), make it to the turnbuckle, kick himself off the middle turnbuckle, and catch KUSHIDA in a rollup for the three! A stunned KUSHIDA sent Karl Fredericks and Shota Umino after Hiromu, but he was long gone by then. Hiromu finished the night by celebrating with the Hiroshima crowd.

NJPW G1 Climax Night Sixteen- August 13th, 2022

Attendance: 3,000 at Machida City Gymnasium (Machida, Tokyo, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

(A 10 bell salute was held for Ricky Steamboat, who sadly passed away the day before the show. Yes, Steamboat did wrestle in NJPW, nine matches in 1990!)

-House of Torture's EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi defeated young lions Kosei Fujita & Yuto Nakashima in a dull match. EVIL & Yujiro completely dominated the two young lions, with EVIL finishing off Fujita in just under eight minutes after hitting him with EVIL. However, afterwards, EVIL was seen hobbling on the floor, with Yujiro and Dick Togo having to help him to the back. He was seen clutching around his ribs, so maybe he broke a rib. We'll keep you informed though. (52/D-)

-Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma, & Yuji Nagata defeated Ryusuke Taguchi, Master Wato, & young lion Ryohei Oiwa in a decent match. Six or Nine held their own against the New Japan dads, but the three veterans completely overwhelmed Oiwa. Nagata finished off Oiwa in just under 10 minutes after making him tap to the Nagata Lock. (61/C)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Taichi defeated Toru Yano in a good match. This match was just pure comedy, with Yano and Taichi trying to one-up each other in the cheating department for nearly 11 minutes. Hell, even referee Marty Asami got pantsed by both competitors! In the end, after Yano distracted Asami, he tried kicking Taichi below the belt! However, Yano recoiled in pain, which allowed Taichi to hit him with the Taichi-style Last Ride for the win! After the match, Taichi reached down in his tights and pulled out a gold-plated cup! (73/B-)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Tom Lawlor defeated Satoshi Kojima in a good match. Kojima was just not able to keep up with the MMA-style of Tom Lawlor, who threw Kojima around the ring like a ragdoll on numerous occasions and damn near choked him out on several others. In the end, Lawlor managed to duck a LARIATOOOO!!! from Kojima and locked him in the rear naked choke! Kojima eventually passed out, giving the win to 'Filthy' Tom Lawlor. (75/B-)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Jeff Cobb defeated Claudio CSRO in a good match. In one of the most hard-hitting matches of the entire tournament, Cobb and CSRO tore into each other with a bevy of stiff shots and suplexes for nearly 15 minutes. By the end, both mens' chests were beet red, but neither man let up. In the end, CSRO tried lifting the heavy Cobb for the Swiss Death and he was able to do it! However, Cobb shoved CSRO off before he was hit, grabbed CSRO, and hit him with the Tour of the Islands for the three. Both men shared a fist bump after the match. (82/B)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Jay White defeated Shingo Takagi in a good match. White needed a win to really halt his losing streak and he got that tonight in the form of a great win over Shingo Takagi. Shingo put in a hell of an effort though, as he needed a win to keep his Block B hopes alive. After nearly 20 minutes, Shingo went for the Last of the Dragon, but White reversed it into a surprise Blade Runner and got the three. (80/B)

MAIN EVENT:

G1 Climax Block B Match: Will Ospreay vs Tetsuya Naito

Will Ospreay defeated Tetsuya Naito in a great match to end the night. Ospreay ended Naito's hopes of winning the G1 Climax with a nice win after nearly 23 minutes of hard-hitting action. The match came to an end when Naito attempted Destino, but Ospreay was able to reverse into a flipping neckbreaker! Ospreay then leaped off the middle rope and hit Naito with a devastating OsCutter! Not content, Ospreay picked up Naito and hit him with the StormBreaker for the three!

NJPW G1 Climax Night Seventeen- August 14th, 2022

Attendance: 11,000 at Nippon Budokan (Tokyo, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-CHAOS's Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, & YOH defeated young lions Ryohei Oiwa, Kosei Fujita, & Yuto Nakashima in a decent match. the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions easily defeated the three young lions, with Ishii finishing off Fujita in just under eight minutes after hitting him with the Brainbuster. (69/C+)

-Great Bash Heel defeated Tencozy in a decent match. In their first match together since announcing their retirements, Tenzan & Kojima got a huge reaction from the Nippon Budokan crowd. That still wasn't enough to push them past Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma. Makabe finished off Tenzan in just under 12 minutes after hitting him with the King Kong Knee Drop. (61/C)

-KENTA defeated Minoru Suzuki in an amazing match. Since Suzuki's match with EVIL got cancelled, Suzuki came out and demanded a match with anyone on the NJPW roster. That challenge was accepted by the returning Bullet Club member KENTA. KENTA, who hasn't been seen since losing the IWGP US Title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 16, put on a hell of a fight against Suzuki, with the two veterans tearing into each other for nearly 15 minutes. In the end, KENTA managed to catch Suzuki off guard and hit him with the Go 2 Sleep for the win. (90/A)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: Kazuchika Okada defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in a good match. These two have put on amazing matches together for nearly a decade and while tonight was definitely not on the level of their Tokyo Dome matches, they still put on a hell of a show. Tanahashi did everything he could to snap his losing streak, but his best couldn't defeat the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Okada finished off Tanahashi with the RAINMAKER!!! in just under 18 minutes. After the match, Tanahashi grabbed a microphone and wondered aloud if he was still the 'ace.' He asked the fans and after a surprisingly mixed response, he stormed off in confusion. (78/B)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: KUSHIDA defeated Great-O-Khan in a good match. KUSHIDA's chances at making the G1 Climax Final were largely out of his control, he needed Kaito Kiyomiya to defeat Hiromu Takahashi in the main event. However, he still needed to defeat the fierce Great-O-Khan to keep his hopes alive. After 16 minutes of action, KUSHIDA kept his G1 Climax Final hopes alive after making O-Khan tap to the DEATH LOCK. (76/B-)

-G1 Climax Block A Match: Bryan Danielson defeated Zack Sabre Jr. in a great match. Sabre needed a win to keep his G1 Climax hopes alive, but Danielson managed to outwrestle him in this near-20 minute technical masterclass. This was called a dream match for a reason folks, both men put on a hell of a technical wrestling showcase. The match came to an end when Sabre managed to lock Danielson in the Orienteering with Napalm Death, but as soon as he realized that Danielson began to escape, he transitioned it into Article 50! As Danielson reached for the ropes, he managed to kick himself over Sabre and lock him in the Cattle Mutilation! Sabre eventually had no choice but to tap out! The two men exchanged a handshake after the match. (86/B+)

Every time it looked like Kiyomiya would put Hiromu away, Hiromu would somehow fight back and stay in the game. After over 22 minutes of back-and-forth action, Kiyomiya hit Hiromu with the King's Road! Kiyomiya went for the cover, but Hiromu got his foot on the rope at the last second! As Kiyomiya attempted another King's Road, Hiromu managed to reverse it into the Time Bomb! Hiromu made the cover and got the three to secure his spot in the G1 Climax Final!

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Claudio CSRO defeated Toru Yano in a good match. Yano once again tried his underhanded tactics, but CSRO's raw strength and power were just too much for the CHAOS member to overcome. Afterwards, CSRO left his business card on Yano's body, telling the camera he's got a lot of money-making opportunities coming up. (80/B)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Jeff Cobb defeated Tom Lawlor in a great match. Cobb capped off another great G1 Climax outing with a solid win over the STRONG Openweight Champion. After nearly 15 minutes, Cobb was able to wiggle out of a rear naked choke and hit Lawlor with the Tour of the Islands for the three. (83/B+)

-G1 Climax Block B Match: Will Ospreay defeated Satoshi Kojima in a good match. With this win, Ospreay clinched his spot in the G1 Climax Final against Hiromu Takahashi. This was also Kojima's last G1 Climax match and he definitely wanted to go out with a win. He put his all into this one, damn near getting the win over Ospreay on several occasions. After nearly 20 minutes of action, Kojima managed to blast Ospreay with a LARIATOOOO!!! Kojima went for the cover, but Ospreay kicked out at two! Before Kojima could even react, he got hit with the Hidden Blade and was quickly hit by a follow-up StormBreaker, which got Ospreay*the win. Kojima received a standing ovation after the match was over from the Nippon Budokan crowd. (78/B)

-After the match, Ospreay celebrated his victory until Hiromu Takahashi entered the ring! The two men shared a tense staredown before Hiromu offered a handshake. The two men shook hands as Ospreay told him that the better man will walk out of the Finals as the winner. As Hiromu left the ring, Ospreay hit him in the back of the head with the Hidden Blade! Ospreay then picked up Hiromu and hit him with a devastating StormBreaker! Ospreay stood tall as the staff tended to Hiromu. (80/B)

That was a brutal G1 for Tana, heelturn incoming? Also didn't expect Hiromu to have such a strong tournament. O_O

Hiromu's putting in some amazing performances, he's been consistently one of the top workers rating-wise of the tournament. Eventually though I think it came to him, KUSHIDA, or Sabre for the Block A win and Hiromu's getting the best grades so far/is really over, so that won it out.

The rate at which these shows have been coming is wonderful and that was a fantastic 18 nights of block action but you've done The Ace dirty!

Looking forward to the final night.

Thanks! Tanahashi's been an interesting character to book. I feel like his current gimmick's become a bit stale, so I'm going with something different. I think y'all will like it.

G1 Climax 32 Final: Hiromu Takahashi vs Will Ospreay

It's a battle between two former junior heavyweight stars to determine who's the top wrestler in New Japan Pro-Wrestling! These two have waged many wars for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, with both men having two wins over the other. Since their last battle at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in 2020, Ospreay has blossomed into a full-blown star. He's moved up to the heavyweight division, formed his own faction, and has even won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Hiromu, on the other hand, cemented his status as the ace of the junior heavyweight division by winning back-to-back Best of Super Juniors in 2020 and 2021. He came up short in 2022, but entered the G1 Climax and roared his way to a Block A win. Will Hiromu continue his rapid ascent up the NJPW roster or will Will Ospreay become the first foreign-born winner in G1 Climax history? We'll find out in the main event at the Nippon Budokan!

NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match: CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, & YOH) vs Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr., & Taichi)

Zack Sabre Jr. had an amazing G1 Climax performance, peaking with a win over the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada! He even defeated Minoru Suzuki, which set something off inside the Suzuki-gun leader. Combine that with Sabre continuing to be a bit of a douche, it's led to some intense arguments between Suzuki & Sabre. All of them have been broken up by fellow Suzuki-gun members, but there's still tension there. For now they must put their differences aside if they want to win the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships.

Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) vs Ryohei Oiwa & Yuto Nakashima

Fletcher & Davis have emerged as one of the hottest tag teams on the European wrestling circuit and as such, they've become close allies with United Empire leader Will Ospreay. Because of that, Ospreay has brought Fletcher & Davis into New Japan Pro-Wrestling to serve as two warriors for United Empire. This match was nothing more than a squash match that Fletcher & Davis completely dominated. After about 8 minutes of pure domination from Aussie Open against the two young lions, Fletcher & Davis finished off Oiwa with the Corealis (Double Elevated Pumphandle Half Nelson Driver).

Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, & SANADA) vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima, & Yuji Nagata

Naito & Shingo had pretty good G1 Climax performances, with Shingo finishing as the runner-up in Block B and Naito finishing in a respectable 4th in Block B. Kojima on the other hand, finished dead last and announced his retirement before his final match. He did defeat Jay White though, so good for him. This match was a decent match and the crowd was solidly behind LIJ. SANADA and Kojima started the match off with a collar and elbow tie-up, in which SANADA hit Kojima with a belly to belly suplex. SANADA then threw Kojima off the ropes and hit him with a spin kick. SANADA attempted to end the match early by locking Kojima in the Skull End (Dragon Sleeper with Bodyscissors), but Kojima managed to wiggle out and hit SANADA with a German suplex. SANADA then tagged out to Shingo while Kojima tagged out to Nagata. Shingo ducked a lariat from Nagata and hit him with an enzuigiri. Shingo then threw Nagata off the ropes, grabbed him on the rebound, and hit him with a big Samoan drop. Shingo tried hitting Nagata with a back suplex, but Nagata slipped his way out of it and sent Shingo flying across the ring with a release German suplex. Nagata then tagged out to Tenzan, who got a big pop from the Nippon Budokan crowd. Tenzan winded things up, ran off the ropes, and hit Shingo with a massive lariat! Tenzan went for the cover, but Shingo kicked out at two. The match came to an end when Tenzan attempted a Death Valley Driver, but Shingo reversed it into a swinging neckbreaker. Shingo then tagged out to Naito, who dodged a flying shoulder block from Tenzan and hit him with a lifting DDT. Naito then grabbed Tenzan, ran off the ropes, and hit him with the Destino! Naito made the cover and got the three for LIJ.

Bullet Club (Jay White, Taiji Ishimori, & KENTA) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, David Finlay Jr., & Juice Robinson

Jay White had a so-so outing in the G1 Climax, but the same could not be said for Hiroshi Tanahashi. The 'ace' of NJPW only got two points, losing to everyone in Block A save for EVIL. KENTA made his return on the penultimate night of the G1 Climax, defeating Minoru Suzuki in a great match. This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind Tanahashi & FinJuice. David Finlay and KENTA started the match off with KENTA hitting Finlay with a stiff forearm smash. KENTA then threw Finlay into the corner, hit him with a knife edge chop, and followed that up with a running powerslam. KENTA then attempted an early Go 2 Sleep, but Finlay managed to wiggle out and hit KENTA with a German suplex. Finlay picked up KENTA and hit him with a belly to belly suplex before attempting a running knee drop. KENTA dodged it though and hit Finlay with a roundhouse kick! KENTA then tagged out to Taiji Ishimori, who picked up Finlay and hit him with a tornado DDT. Ishimori then threw Finlay off the ropes and attempted a back body drop, but Finlay landed on his feet and hit Ishimori with an enzuigiri. Finlay then tagged out to Tanahashi, who tried riling up the crowd, but they were a bit hesitant to get behind him. Tanahashi picked up Ishimori and hit him with a gutwrench suplex before hitting him with a running knee drop. Tanahashi then threw Ishimori into the corner and hit him with a spinning backfist! Tanahashi then went to the top rope and attempted the High Fly Flow, but Ishimori got his knees up at the last second. He then picked up Tanahashi and hit him with the Bloody Cross! Ishimori went for the cover, but Juice & Finlay broke it up. The match came to an end when Tanahashi tagged out to Juice and Ishimori tagged out to Jay White. The two gaijin went at it for a few minutes before Juice tried hitting White with the Pulp Friction! That failed and White reversed it into the Blade Runner! White made the cover and got the three and the win for Bullet Club.

After the match ended, Jay White grabbed a microphone and began to talk to KENTA. White said it was great to see KENTA back and representing Bullet Club. White continued, saying that there was still an elephant in the room. White said KENTA thinks he's the be-all, end-all in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and there's nothing wrong with that, White even sees himself as that. White says however, there can only be one star in Bullet Club...

Suddenly, Taiji Ishimori jumped KENTA and began beating the living hell out of him! White soon joined in on the action and the two men started kicking the crap out of KENTA! KENTA tried fighting back, but the rest of Bullet Club soon joined in on the attack and quickly overwhelmed him. Each Bullet Club member got their time to attack KENTA before White finished him off with the Blade Runner. Bullet Club stood tall over their former comrade as officials tended to KENTA.

CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Hirooki Goto, & YOSHI-HASHI) vs DEATH RIDERS (KUSHIDA, Shota Umino, & Karl Fredericks)

KUSHIDA made his long-awaited return to NJPW at Dominion in June and he was joined by two returning young lions, Shota Umino & Karl Fredericks, forming DEATH RIDERS. KUSHIDA then had an amazing G1 Climax, peaking with a win over Kazuchika Okada. This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind CHAOS. Okada and KUSHIDA started things off with a staredown before locking up in a collar and elbow tie-up. That was won by KUSHIDA, who hit Okada with a belly to belly suplex. KUSHIDA then hit Okada with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker before hitting him with a running knee drop. KUSHIDA attempted a discus elbow smash, but Okada ducked it and hit KUSHIDA with a back suplex. Okada then ducked a lariat from KUSHIDA and hit him with a beautiful dropkick. KUSHIDA then tagged out to Shota, who hit Okada with a lariat. Shota then threw the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion into the corner, ran to the other corner, and hit him with a running high knee. Shota then followed that up with a running bulldog to Okada. Shota went to attempt a move made famous by his mentor (the Paradigm Shift from Jon Moxley), but Okada reversed it into a belly to belly suplex. Okada then tagged out to Hirooki Goto, who hit Shota with a military press slam. Goto then threw Shota off the ropes and hit him with a big boot. Goto attempted a running powerslam, but Shota wiggled out of it and shoved Goto headfirst into the turnbuckle! Shota then tagged out to Karl Fredericks, who went after Goto's left knee with a running strike directly to it. Fredericks then hit Goto with a release German suplex that sent Goto flying across the ring. Fredericks comboed that directly into a spinning wheel kick. Fredericks then attempted a powerslam, but Goto reversed it into a neckbreaker. The match came to an end when Goto tagged out to YOSHI-HASHI and Fredericks tagged out to KUSHIDA. KUSHIDA ducked a lariat from YOSHI-HASHI and hit him with a hurricanrana. KUSHIDA then trapped YOSHI-HASHI in the DEATH LOCK! Fredericks and Shota held off Okada & Goto before YOSHI-HASHI eventually had no choice but to tap out.

NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match:

fDoaxoX.jpglgbgQih.jpg0kkcuFD.jpg VS RVhuYXe.jpgkJaAuEV.jpgjQc9fjT.jpg

CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii, Toru Yano, & YOH) © vs Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr., & Taichi)

Things have been fraught in Suzuki-gun over the past few months, which started when Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Minoru Suzuki in their G1 Climax match. Since then, Sabre's been upstaging Suzuki a bit and Suzuki's having none of it. The two have almost come to blows on a few occasions, but another member of Suzuki-gun's always been there to stop things. Now can they put their differences aside to win the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship? This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind CHAOS. Suzuki and Yano started things off with Yano trying to sell Suzuki a copy of his DVD. Suzuki responded by blasting Yano with a forearm smash. Suzuki then hit Yano with a discus lariat before throwing him into the corner and slapping him across the chest. Suzuki attempted a knife edge chop after that, but Yano rolled out of the way, poked Suzuki in the eye, ran to the opposite corner, and started removing the turnbuckle pad. Yano then swung the turnbuckle pad at Suzuki, who ducked it and hit Yano with a lariat. Yano then tagged out to Ishii, who hit Suzuki with a big boot. Ishii then hit Suzuki with a knife edge chop and Suzuki responded with one of his own! Ishii then threw Suzuki into his corner, where Sabre tagged himself in. Sabre started kicking the living hell out of Ishii, eventually bringing him down to a knee with a stiff kick to the mid-section. Sabre then ran off the ropes and hit Ishii with a Penalty Kick! Sabre went for a cover, but Ishii managed to kick out at two. Sabre picked up Ishii and hit him with a suplex before working over Ishii's left knee. Sabre started stomping the living hell out of Ishii's knee until he tried locking in the Orienteering with Napalm Death. That failed and Ishii managed to hit Sabre with a powerslam. Ishii then tagged out to YOH, who hit Sabre with a flying shoulder block. YOH started working over Sabre's legs before locking in the Stargazer! After nearly a minute locked in the hold, Sabre managed to reach the ropes and tagged out to Taichi. The match came to an end when Sabre rolled to the outside and started arguing with Suzuki. The two men had a heated argument on the outside, which eventually got so heated that it distracted Taichi long enough for him to get caught in the Stargazer from YOH! Taichi eventually had no choice but to tap out, allowing CHAOS to keep their titles.

WINNERS: CHAOS

After the match ended, Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki continued their argument. The two men started yelling at each other, with Suzuki saying that Sabre's letting his ego run wild, while Sabre said that Suzuki needs to catch up with the times. Suddenly, Suzuki slapped Sabre clean across the face! Sabre responded by blasting Suzuki with a forearm smash and the two started brawling around the ringside area! As young lions and the rest of Suzuki-gun tried separating the two men, Sabre and Suzuki continued beating the living hell out of each other. Eventually Sabre and Suzuki were able to be separated, but that's when Suzuki grabbed a microphone. Suzuki said he wanted to take care of the Zack Sabre Jr. problem once and for all and challenged him to a match at Destruction in Fukuoka! Sabre accepted the challenge and said that he's more than happy to take out the trash in Suzuki-gun once and for all!

FTR © vs Jeff Cobb & Great-O-Khan

FTR won the IWGP Tag Team Championship at Forbidden Door in June, defeating Cobb and Khan thanks to underhanded tactics. Now, after a solid G1 performance from Cobb & Khan, they get their rematch against FTR at the Nippon Budokan! This match was a good match and the crowd was solidly behind Cobb & Khan. Dax Harwood and Jeff Cobb started the match off with Cobb blasting Harwood with a lariat. Cobb then picked up Harwood and launched him across the ring with a biel throw. Cobb threw Harwood off the ropes and sent him flying with a release belly to belly suplex. Cobb then attempted a military press slam, but Harwood kneed Cobb in the head and hit him with a German suplex. Harwood then clipped Cobb's right knee before hitting him with a running high knee. Harwood then tagged out to Cash Wheeler and the two hit Cobb with a double suplex followed by a double knee drop. Wheeler picked up Cobb and hit him with a suplex before hitting him with a running senton. Wheeler then attempted a spinning heel kick, but Cobb caught him and hit Wheeler with a powerbomb. Cobb hit Wheeler with a release German suplex before tagging out to Great-O-Khan. Khan threw Wheeler into the corner and hit him with a Mongolian chop. O-Khan then hit Wheeler with a running powerslam before attempting a cover. That only got a two and O-Khan tried finishing things off early by hitting Wheeler with the Eliminator. That failed when Wheeler stomped on O-Khan's foot and hit him with a snap DDT. Wheeler threw O-Khan off the ropes and hit him with a back body drop before tagging out to Dax Harwood. Harwood and Wheeler attempted a double powerbomb on Khan, but Cobb broke that up and the four men started brawling. The brawl eventually spilled to the outside, where Cobb threw Wheeler into the barricade while Harwood threw Khan headfirst into the turnbuckle. As Harwood turned around after attacking Khan, Cobb hit him with a big belly to belly suplex on the outside! Harwood and Khan eventually got back in the ring, where Khan caught Harwood by surprise with the Eliminator! Khan made the cover, but when referee Marty Asami went to count the pin, he was taken out by Cash Wheeler! The match came to an end when Cobb tried rushing Wheeler on the outside, but Wheeler dodged out of the way at the last second, sending Cobb headfirst into the turnbuckle! Wheeler then got in the ring and started beating the hell out of Khan! Harwood soon joined in on the action and the two hit Khan with the Big Rig! Harwood made the cover and eventually Marty Asami counted the three.

After that match ended, we got a video hyping up the G1 Climax 32 Final match between Hiromu Takahashi and Will Ospreay.

Hiromu Takahashi vs Will Ospreay

This match was an amazing match and the crowd was solidly behind Hiromu. These two men started things off with a staredown before Ospreay tried getting an early advantage with a superkick. That failed though, as Hiromu caught it and hit Ospreay with a spinning back suplex. Ospreay tried regrouping on the outside, but Hiromu went to the top rope and hit Ospreay with a missile dropkick! Hiromu then threw Ospreay into the ring post before throwing him back in the ring. Once Hiromu got in there, he hit Ospreay with a sidewalk slam, quickly followed up by a standing moonsault. Hiromu went to attempt the Time Bomb, but Ospreay managed to wiggle out of it and hit Hiromu with the Hidden Blade! Ospreay then jumped off the middle rope and attempted the OsCutter, but Hiromu caught it and hit Ospreay with a wheelbarrow facebuster! Hiromu then threw Ospreay off the ropes, ducked a lariat, and hit him with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Hiromu picked up Ospreay and attempted the Falcon Arrow, but Ospreay quickly reversed that into a lifting reverse DDT. Ospreay taunted Hiromu a bit before hitting him with a hook kick. Ospreay ran off the ropes and hit Hiromu with a standing shooting star press. Ospreay went for the cover, but Hiromu kicked out at two. Ospreay then attempted the Hidden Blade again as Hiromu started to rise, but Hiromu rolled out of the way and hit Ospreay with a missile dropkick that sent him crashing to the outside. Hiromu then went to the top rope and attempted a massive diving senton to the outside, but Ospreay rolled out of the way and the very last second! Ospreay took advantage of Hiromu's mistake and sent him crashing into the barricade. Ospreay then broke the count before reaching under the ring and grabbing a table! Ospreay set up the table at ringside before throwing Hiromu back in the ring. Ospreay went to the apron and hit Hiromu with a springboard forearm smash before hitting him with a running 540 corkscrew senton bomb. NJPW G1 Climax 32 Final Post-Show Comments

36ge4uM.jpg

Hiroshi Tanahashi:

"I don't even know what to say any more. I think I need to take a break for a bit. I'll be at Tenzan's retirement show, but I don't think I deserve to wrestle at Destruction or King of Pro Wrestling. I'll be back, but I don't know when. All I know is that I'm still 'Ace.'

rYZUX4Y.jpg

zzNHaQq.jpg

Jay White (in English):

"KENTA, KENTA, KENTA. You thought after what you did for Bullet Club at Wrestle Kingdom 16 that I would just you back in like nothing happened? You embarrassed out there mate, you got your ass handed to you by Hiroshi Tanahashi so much that you had to run away for seven months! And what did I do in the meantime? I became 'King Switch,' the best leader Bullet Club has ever seen! So now that I've dealt with that problem, I know what I want next, the IWGP United States Championship. Ospreay, I beat you on night two of the G1 Climax, I deserve a shot at the title. So how 'bout it, Destruction in Nagoya, Ospreay vs White for the US Title? I'm more than happy to take that title from ya."

rYZUX4Y.jpg

Fk4yzlj.jpg

Kazuchika Okada:

"KUSHIDA is one hell of a fighter. Shota & Fredericks, those two might be challenging me one day for sure. Now, KUSHIDA, you've beaten me in the G1 Climax and you beat me, Goto, & YOSHI-HASHI tonight. I think that means it's time for me to defeat you at Destruction in Kobe! So KUSHIDA, bring your A-game at Destruction, because you're going to need more than that if you want to take the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship from me!"

rYZUX4Y.jpg

kJaAuEV.jpg

Zack Sabre Jr (in English):

"You know what, Minoru Suzuki is nothing more than a daft muppet. When I came to New Japan, I thought he was this fierce warrior who could tear the piss out of anyone who stepped in the ring with him. Now I know he's just an old man who lost the plot a long time ago. I'm looking forward to breaking his leg in Fukuoka."

rYZUX4Y.jpg

RVhuYXe.jpg

Minoru Suzuki:

"ZACK SABRE JR!, YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A WORTHLESS DOG. AT DESTRUCTION IN FUKUOKA, YOU WILL BE TORN APART!"

rYZUX4Y.jpg

27SoW3a.jpg

Will Ospreay (in English):

"Bask it in lads, you're looking at the first foreigner to ever win the G1 Climax. I didn't just do it for that reason though, I did it to prove to all of you that United Empire is THE dominant force in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. I don't care about those has-beens in CHAOS, there's a reason why I ditched those old-timers. Bullet Club? Hasn't been relevant since Kenny and his boys left! I would say some things about Suzuki-gun, but they've got some bigger problems going on, ain't that right Zack? Naito and his boys in LIJ? Well, I just beat their crown jewel to win this trophy. And I'm not even going to get into that wannabe motorcycle club that KUSHIDA has, that's more of a mid-life crisis in my opinion than anything else. So, Okada! You may have beaten me at Wrestle Kingdom 16, but mark my words, Wrestle Kingdom 17 you'll be seeing a whole different Will Ospreay. You'll see a Will Ospreay who will take that IWGP World Heavyweight Championship off of you and bring it home where it belongs to United Empire!"

NJPW Road to Destruction Night One- September 4th, 2022

Hiroyoshi Tenzan Retirement Show

Attendance: 2,000 at Korkauen Hall (Tokyo, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-DEATH RIDERS's Karl Fredericks defeated young lion Ryohei Oiwa in a dull match. Fredericks completely dominated Oiwa, with the 'Alpha Wolf' having his way with Oiwa for almost eight minutes. In the end, Fredericks hit Oiwa with his finisher, the Manifest Destiny (Lifting DDT). (55/C)

-Flying Tiger & young lion Yuto Nakashima defeated Bandido, Ryu Lee, & young lion Kosei Fujita in a decent match. Tiger Mask IV & Robbie Eagles will face Bandido & Lee for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles in a few weeks, so this was mostly tune-up match. Tiger Mask got the win though, finishing off Fujita with the Tiger Driver in just under 13 minutes after Bandido & Lee simply abandonded their young lion partner. (71/C+)

-Bullet Club's Jay White, SHO, & Taiji Ishimori defeated United Empire's Will Ospreay, Francesco Akira, & Aaron Henare in a good match. This match was a good preview of two high-profile Destruction matches: the SHO/Akira IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title match and the Ospreay/White IWGP US Title match. However, Bullet Club got the upper hand tonight as White finished off Henare with the Blade Runner in just under 16 minutes. (79/B)

-DEATH RIDERS's KUSHIDA & Shota Umino defeated CHAOS's Kazuchika Okada & Hirooki Goto in a good match. This was mostly a preview of what's to come at Destruction in Kobe in three weeks, with Okada and KUSHIDA duking it out with their respective tag partners for nearly 18 minutes. In the end, KUSHIDA managed to trap Goto in the DEATH LOCK and get the submission win. (75/B-)

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Yuji Nagata vs Tencozy

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Yuji Nagata defeated Tencozy in Hiroyoshi Tenzan's retirement match to close the show. This was an emotional match, as Tenzan broke out all the classics in one final attempt at a win. He fought so hard to get the win, but in the end it just wasn't enough. The match came to an end after about 18 minutes of action when Tenzan attempted the TTD- Tenzan Tombstone Driver (Kneeling Cradle Reverse Piledriver), but Tanahashi reversed it into a Tombstone Piledriver of his own! Tanahashi then went to the top rope and hit the High Fly Flow! Tanahashi then covered Tenzan and got the three, putting an end to the career of one of the greatest pro wrestlers in New Japan Pro-Wrestling history.

-After the match, Kojima entered the ring and hugged Tenzan. The two men began crying and were shortly joined by Tanahashi and Nagata. There wasn't a dry eye in Korakuen Hall as the crowd chanted Tenzan's name. That was broken up by a huge pop from the crowd though when Masahiro Chono entered the ring! Chono and Tenzan hugged each other as Chono joked about welcoming Tenzan to the retirement home. The four men eventually left Tenzan in the ring alone as the crowd continued to chant his name. He eventually took off his boots, left them in the ring, and made his way backstage, the last time we'd ever see Hiroyoshi Tenzan in a New Japan ring.

You gave the career of Hiroyoshi Tenzan a fitting send off. Nicely written.

I don't get as much time to read dynasties as I used to, but I keep finding myself returning to this one. I think you're doing a superb job with this on every level. I love the DEATH RIDERS as a faction+I'm very interested to see what direction you're going to go in with Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, the Tenzan send-off was very fun to write, I've never done anything like that before in any of my dynasties.

NJPW Road to Destruction Night Two- September 5th, 2022

Attendance: 2,000 at Korkauen Hall (Tokyo, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-Aussie Open defeated young lions Kosei Fujita & Ryohei Oiwa in a drab match. The two newest members of United Empire completely dominated the young lions, with them finishing off Oiwa in just under eight minutes after hitting him with the Corealis. (57/C-)

-Suzuki-gun's El Desperado, DOUKI, & Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated Six or Nine and young lion Yuto Nakashima in a decent match. Wato & Taguchi mostly kept up with the three Suzuki-gun members, but Nakashima stood no shot against them. In the end, Despy finished off Nakashima with the Pinche Loco. (63/C)

-Los Ingobernables de Japon's Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi defeated Suzuki-gun's Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi in a great match. Sabre clearly had other things on his mind than LIJ, as he was looking all over the arena for Minoru Suzuki. Suzuki never appeared, but that paranoia was Sabre's downfall here. After about 18 minutes, Sabre messed up a hold that he was normally proficient in and fell right into a Destino from Naito for the three. After the match, Naito called out NEVER Openweight Champion Bryan Danielson for a match at Destruction! (83/B+)

-DEATH RIDERS's KUSHIDA & Karl Fredericks defeated CHAOS's Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI in a good match. DEATH RIDERS continued their recent hot streak over CHAOS with a solid win here over the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and everyone's favorite YOSHI-HASHI. KUSHIDA finished off YOSHI-HASHI in just under 18 minutes after making him tap to the DEATH LOCK. (76/B-)

Jay White & SHO vs Will Ospreay & Francesco Akira

Bullet Club's Jay White & SHO defeated United Empire's Will Ospreay & Francesco Akira in a great match to close the show. In a match very similar to last night's six man tag match between Bullet Club and United Empire, White & SHO once again got the won, but this time by using some underhanded tactics. After nearly 20 minutes of back-and-forth action, Akira looked to finish off SHO with the Akirasault, but SHO shoved him into referee Red Shoes! As Red Shoes composed himself, SHO kicked Akira square below the belt! SHO then hit Akira with the Shock Arrow and got the three.

-Flying Tiger defeated Suzuki-gun's DOUKI & Yoshinobu Kanemaru in a decent match. Flying Tiger did pretty well in this warm-up for their IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship match at Destruction in Fukuoka against Bandido & Ryu Lee. Eagles & Tiger Mask finished off the Suzuki-gun members in just under 13 minutes after Eagles hit DOUKI with the Turbo Backpack. (67/C+)

-DEATH RIDERS's KUSHIDA & Karl Fredericks defeated CHAOS's Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI in a decent match. KUSHIDA continued his winning battle against CHAOS tonight with a solid win over the former IWGP Tag Team Champions Goto & YOSHI-HASHI. After about 15 minutes, KUSHIDA caught YOSHI-HASHI in the DEATH LOCK and made him tap for the win. Los Ingobernables de Japon's Tetsuya Naito & Shingo Takagi defeated Bryan Danielson & Claudio CSRO in an amazing match to close the show. Danielson paid Claudio's price for tonight and he got a hell of a performance out of him. These four men tore each other to shreds for nearly 20 minutes before things wrapped up. The finish came when Danielson tried hitting Naito with a running knee, but Naito rolled out of the way, sending Danielson knee first into the turnbuckle! Naito then picked up Danielson and hit him with the Destino for the win! Naito grabbed the NEVER Openweight Championship, told Danielson he'd see him in Nagoya, threw the belt at him, and walked away to end the show.

NJPW Road to Destruction Night Four- September 12th, 2022

Attendance: 2,000 at Korakuen Hall (Tokyo, Japan)

Commentary Team: Shinpei Nogami & Milano Collection A.T.

-Claudio CSRO, Bandido, & Ryu Lee defeated young lions Ryohei Oiwa, Yuto Nakashima, & Kosei Fujita in a decent match. CSRO's really become a favorite client of Bandido & Lee and for good reason, he wiped the floor with the young lions tonight in Tokyo. CSRO finished off Oiwa in just under eight minutes after hitting him with Swiss Death. (69/C+)

-Los Ingobernables de Japon's BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi defeated Bullet Club's El Phantasmo & Chase Owens in a good match. Hiromu got a huge pop from the crowd in his first appearance since losing the G1 Climax Final against Will Ospreay. Hiromu showed everyone why he went that far in the G1 Climax this year with a great outing against Bullet Club's two most annoying members. The match came to an end after a little under 14 minutes when Hiromu hit Owens with the Time Bomb. (77/B)

-Suzuki-gun's Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi defeated Los Ingobernables de Japon's Shingo Takagi & SANADA and CHAOS's Toru Yano & Hirooki Goto in a good match. This unique triangle tag team match saw Sabre & Taichi come out on top after nearly 15 minutes of action, with Sabre making Goto tap out to the Orienteering with Napalm Death. After the match, Toru Yano grabbed a microphone and challenged Shingo & Taichi to a three-way KOPW match at Destruction in Nagoya! The catch? The only way to win is by pinfall or submission outside of the ring! (81/B)

-United Empire's Will Ospreay & Francesco Akira defeated Bullet Club's SHO & Taiji Ishimori in a good match. Ospreay and Akira put on a great performance against the two Bullet Club junior heavyweights, with Akira getting some good shots in against his opponent at Destruction in Nagoya. In the end, Akira finished off Ishimori in just under 18 minutes after hitting him with the Fireball. (77/B)

DEATH RIDERS vs CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, & YOH)

DEATH RIDERS's KUSHIDA, Shota Umino, & Karl Fredericks defeated CHAOS's Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, & YOH in a good match to close the show. In their final warm-up match before their big main event match in Kobe, KUSHIDA and DEATH RIDERS put on a great performance to once again defeat Okada & CHAOS. After nearly 20 minutes of action, KUSHIDA managed to trap Ishii in the DEATH LOCK to get the submission victory. After the match, DEATH RIDERS launched a three-on-two beatdown on Okada & YOH. KUSHIDA eventually grabbed the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, hit Okada with it, and held it high in the air to close the show.

NJPW Destruction in Nagoya Preview

NEVER Openweight Championship Match: Bryan Danielson © vs Tetsuya Naito

Danielson's had an impressive start to his NJPW career. From winning the NEVER Openweight Championship in his first match at Forbidden Door to having a good debut G1 Climax performance, Danielson's been living the dream. However, that dream may turn into a nightmare thanks to the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon Tetsuya Naito! Naito demanded a shot at Dnaielson's title and received it, but not before grabbing the NEVER Openweight Championship and tossing it wildly in the air. Will Danielson fail in his first defense? Or will the 'American Dragon' walk out of Nagoya with the gold?

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Match: SHO © vs Francesco Akira

Francesco Akira burst onto the junior heavyweight scene in June, putting on an impressive Best of Super Juniors performance. Not as impressive as SHO though, who won the BOSJ and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship shortly thereafter. Since then, Akira has been gaining momentum at a rapid pace, defeating SHO and other members of Bullet Club in tag team/six-man tag action. As such, he's earned a shot at SHO's IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Will Akira cement his status as the hottest rising star in the NJPW junior heavyweight division? Or will SHO continue his reign as Bullet Club's IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion?

Provisional KOPW Trophy Three-Way Match: Shingo Takagi © vs Taichi vs Toru Yano

Falls can only be counted outside the ring!

These three men have been duking it out for control of the KOPW Trophy for nearly all of 2022, with Shingo currently holding it. However, Toru Yano stole it after his match with Shingo during the G1 Climax and as such, made the rules for this match. The only way to win is by pinning your opponent or making him tap outside the ring!
