Also with WWE being the only global promotion in the real world data it's extremely satisfying beating them The Cornellverse is a phenominal effort and I've enjoyed playing it in the past, but signing Kikkawa is nowhere near as satisfying as signing someone like the Rock whom we've all seen with our own eyes for years. If we'd playing with the Cornellverse since 1996, then I think by this point there definitely wouldn't be a need for real world data

Ultima
Yeah, name recognition is a big advantage of using real-world data as opposed to the Cornellverse. You don't have to spend as much time familiarizing yourself with wrestlers to figure out good matchups.

djthefunkchris
The only promotion IS the WWE (in alot of cases)
Some people will because they think the only wrestling promotion there was, is or ever will be is the WWE! Don't know why.
Perhaps because its the only promotion that can be seen at a reasonable time 10 times easier then any other. Perhaps because people don't think of Promotions as seperate entities, and just watch there favorite, which happens to be WWE. Even when WCW was around, most casual viewers would not have really decifered the difference, since they both talked about each other alot like Raw will talk about Smackdown, or vice versa. Alot of people don't even realise that Smackdown, ECW, and RAW are all part of the same wrestling promotion....... Of course anyone coming here and reading finds out a ton about alot of other brands and promotions available. Instead of criticizing (and alot of times belittling) people for only knowing about the only promotion they can see without having to hunt all over the place, why not just inform. In my area, the only realistic promotion I can watch and keep up with is WWE. TNA comes on much too late, and it's only an hour. I have been trying to keep up after coming here and reading so much about them. However, there is no Japan wrestling promotions, I cannot watch ROH, nor is their any other wrestling promotions available for my viewing. I might be able to download a match, or watch something on You Tube, or on thier websights, but it's not something I would put at the top of my list of "to do" things. I'm sorry Panix, I know you were trying to sooth this so that nothing would get out of controll, and I hope it doesn't. I am not posting to start a fight, but maybe to help with understanding why alot of folks don't know other promotions at all. Alot of us on these forums don't have the benefit of having other promotions available for viewing, on TV or anywhere locally to watch at all. You can't just open up the TV Guide and find wrestling promotions section. You really have to dig just to find TNA. And a benefit with the Real World Mods is being able to get a current one and see exactly what station and what time the promotion is available (how I found TNA for example). I haven't really said anything about these types of posts in the passed, and maybe I shouldn't have this time. Djlightning, this in no way is meant to put you down, your views and opinions should always be more then appreciated. I just wanted to maybe try to get a little understanding from folks such as myself that just don't have the option of watching 3 or 4 other promotions shows, let alone EVERY other show. They just don't even come in here, so How would I know of them outside of outside influences such as yourself providing me information about them? Hopefully I am making this post as I intended, non-threatening yet debating, and enlightning.

Irish Wolf
Speaking of promotions you never really get a chance to see, I was flipping through my cable channels and on Galavision (An all spanish channel for those who don't know) for 3hrs on saturday (1pm to 3pm est) they show AAA. I caught a match with Konnan as team leader for Chessman and Cibernetico against this guy Super Porky, Octogon and their team leader La Parka (I don't think it was the original unless he eally lost alot of weight). My girlfriend burst out laughing at the enternace to Super Porky. It was all in spanish so I have no idea what was going on but the match was good. ALso I kind of remember catching CMLL on another spanish channel on saturday\s but I can't remember which one. Anyway just though I'd share my rarely seen in my part of the US wrestling promotion story and for anyone who can't find it check out the enterance to Super Porky. Oh yeah and Konnan came out in the gaudiest blue tights and a lavander leather jacket with frindge that came down to his knees which kind of destroyeed hid TNA evil image for me. I just wish I could still watch it. Super Porky was actually in the WWE for a bit as part of the "Juniors" division on smackdown! under the same name. The La Parka you saw isn't the same La Parka who wrestled in WCW. The AAA La Parka is a guy who was given the gimmick by AAA (who owns the gimmick), the WCW La Parka now wrestles under the name L.A. Park. Also, Konnan doesn't do the gangsta gimmick in Mexico, and works a more classic rudo gimmick when he's down there.

Irish Wolf
Really hmmm I might have to go back and try and look at some of the Smackdown Junior stuff and see if I can find porky. He's so fat and he comes out with with these two hot dancer chicks who dance with him. They were both good lookin' but one had the fakes boobs ever. Also I think Cibernetico is actualy Muerte Cibernetico, or quite literally Death Machine. I really liked Chessman's mask and face painting, he kind of reminded me of Hallowween and Damien 666 who were some of my favorites, gotta find out where they are working now and see if I can catch some video of their matches. Phil Parent
Well, everybody knows I've walked that line between fiction and reality and I'll tell you, reality is limited, fantasy is not. If you've got the imagination, fantasy is always more fun. The sim has become so detailed that you need a tremendous commitment to create and maintain an extensive real-world database. Back when I started in sims, we had 2 numerical values to fill for wrestlers, basically, talent & overness. And then we had like a 30 characters bio, a face/heel switch, a push indicator, and I think that was it. Feds were about as "Hard" to mod, And we were limited to having two controllable feds anyway, with a third fed existing, but being non-controllable. It was easy to put 2000 wrestlers in Promotion Wars pretty much by myself because it was so damn simple. Compare that to what you need to do today. A single guy who has something like a life can't do a whole set on his own, even somebody like Jeff Cartwright, probably the best data man in the sim world ever and the guy who did the EWR updates pretty much on his own, couldn't do it. So the next step up is Development Teams. Which mostly involve a "Generalist" and a couple "Specialists". Those don't really work well because often some team members will trail the others and releases will lag. I feel that for Real-World modding to continue being effective for TEW/WreSpi, it will have to employ a "Plug-In" mentality where somebody will create something singular (A Venue file, a fed & it's wrestlers, pictures, etc...) and release that as a stand-alone file with no strings attached. Then, somebody can go through the forum and "Shop" his data, picking pieces from different modders and importing it into his own data. So, somebody could have X's WWE, Y's TNA, Z's ROH and W's Venues, and so on. And modding would be more popular, because you'd only create a little something instead of creating a whole data set.
