WWWF SATURDAY NIGHT WRESTLING

Returns To

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

New York, New York

THE TONGA KID vs THE MASKED SUPERSTAR w/ Gary Hart

The Tonga Kid makes his return to the WWWF big stage and it wont be easy for him as he draws the newest member of the Hart Stable in the Masked Superstar, who has been inconsistent since his signing on with Gary Hart.. Tonight is the night that onbe of these men take the next step

"QUICKDRAW" RICK MCGRAW vs THE MISSING LINK w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

Booby Heenan unleashed his newest find into the Madison Square Garden, while Rick Mcgraw draws the dubious distinction of having to facce this maniacal man

RICK MARTEL vs KING KONG BUNDY w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

Martel lost out on his chance for the World title in a series of matches versus Orndorff..Now he takes on the Brain's biggest asset (literally) as he tries to climb back into contention

PEDRO MORALES vs THE MAGNIFICENT MURACO w/ "Superstar" Billy Graham

Morales TV Title is not on the line this Staurday in the garden, but what could be on the line is the relationship between Muraco and Graham as these two have contiued to get in each other's way in recent weeks.. A win by Muraco could get him going into the right direction and set up a possible TV Title match.. Or, will we see Graham and Muraco continue the lack of cohesiveness.

WWWF WORLD TAG TITLE MATCH

(Challengers) "CHIEF" JAY & JULES STRONGBOW vs (Champions) ADRIAN ADONIS & DICK MURDOCH "THE NORTH/SOUTH CONNECTION" w/ Gary Hart

At Night of Legends last month Adonis & Murdoch rained on the parade of the return of Chief jay to the ring, by tossing buckets of black paint onto the Strongbows and ripping their head dresses to shreds it a simulated tar and feathering act... The Strongbows are former world champions and are looking for revenge against The World Champs

WWWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

(Champion) RICKY "THE DRAGON" STEAMBOAT vs (Challenger) GREG "THE HAMMER" VALENTINE

This will be the second encounter netween these two after Valentine became the number one contender for Steamboats title... The last match was one of the best matchups we've seen in the WWWF this year... Did Valentine learn something in that last match to help him prevail in his second shot at the title or is Steamboat destined for a long run as IC Champion

NEW YORK CITY STREET FIGHT

PAT PATTERSON vs "ROWDY" RODDY PIPER

Anything goes in this match.. The referee's only job is to count to 10... This match will end when one man is down and cannot answer the 10 count as blood promises to be spilled in what may be the final chapter of this feud

WWWF WORLD TITLE MATCH

(Challenger) "MR. USA" TONY ATLAS vs (Champion) "MR. WONDERFUL" PAUL ORNDORFF w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

Atlas has risen through the midcard ranks to the biggest thorn in the side of Bobby Heenan.. From a series of times of bodyslamming John Studd around the ring, to getting himself in front of the World Champion and embarassing the champion during some pose downs... Atlas has climbed all the way to being the number one contender for Orndorff's title...Will History be made this Saturday night in the Garden

Tonga Kid vs The Masked Superstar

I truly have no clue on this one.

Rick McGraw vs The Missing Link

It should be good seeing what you can do with The Missing Link.

Rick Martel vs King Kong Bundy

I think one of the Rick's will be your next champion (Martel or Steamboat). Therefore, I think Martel get the victory here. Yes it might be looked at as an upset but I just have a feeling.

Pedro Morales vs The Magnificent Muraco

Wow this is a really tough match to call right here. I could make a case could be made for either one of these two. Seeing how I have picked mostly heels I shall go with Pedro here.

"Chief" Jay & Jules Strongbow vs Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch

Ricky Steamboat vs Greg Valentine

Pat Patterson vs Roddy Piper

Pat is older than dirt at this point, I see no reason for him to beat the younger Piper in this match.

Tony Atlas vs Paul Orndorff

History will indeed not be made, which is odd because I have both the heels winning their matches (Piper and Orndorff). I just can't see Tony as the Champion at this point despite how well he has done.

1 point bonus: Pick the match of the night: Steamboat vs. Valentine

Tonga Kid vs The Masked Superstar

Kid needs to keep learning the ropes, and Superstar is a good one to teach him.

Rick McGraw vs The Missing Link

Heenan's newest henchman makes his presence felt

Rick Martel vs King Kong Bundy

Pedro Morales vs The Magnificent Muraco

could we be seeing a muraco face turn?

"Chief" Jay & Jules Strongbow vs Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch

best tag team in the world today!

Ricky Steamboat vs Greg Valentine

Steamboat seems to be looking ahead to world title shots and could slip up here to the wily veteran. The Hammer is worthy of a WWWF title run (maybe he can even make a t-shirt that he broke Steamboat's leg)

Pat Patterson vs Roddy Piper

a match in the spirit of Pat's bootcamp match with Sarge, and expect as much blood to be spilled. While I could see Piper walking out midmatch, I think Hot Rod should go over and continue his legend killer status -- that of course adds fuel to the fire when Patterson brings in a hired gun to go after Piper

Tony Atlas vs Paul Orndorff

Orndorff counted out/DQed in this one. You've done a masterful job of elevating Atlas to main event status and looks like a credible threat. I'm just doubtful he gets the gold belt. This run could set him up for an I/C title run down the road though depending on well he does on the big stage.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated Weekly: A behind the scenes look at the world of Professional Wrestling

WWWF:

WWWF Just held their big monthly event in Madison Square Garden... Some of the aftermath from this last event includes, word coming out of the WWWF front Offices is that Pat Patterson is done with his in-ring career that had scene a bit of a resurgence in recent months... Patterson was defeated by Roddy Piper in a Texas Death match, and while Patterson did represent himself very well, he has decided that it is time to find a younger wrestler in their prime to challenge The Rowdy One, from his role as Commisioner of the WWF. Piper has made a name for himself in eliminating WWWF legends from the ring and can add Patterson to a list that also includes Bruno Sammartino & Bob Backlund... Captain Lou Albano has now officially signed on as the new manager of the young up and coming tag team of Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo, who have been dubbed The US Express.. The Name came from Mr. USA himself Tony Atlas who had teamed with Windham and Rotundo and now since taking Albano on as manager the US Express have become a thorn in the side of current World Tag TEam Champions Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch... Windham and Rotundo have signed on folr a series of Title matches in the coming months after defeating the North/South Connection in a non-title matchup on PrimeTime Wrestling and then foiling Gary Hart's plan at tar and feathering The Strongbows again, this past Saturday Night in the Garden as Hart became the recipient of the bucket of black paint, he had targeted for Chief Jay and Jules..... It looks like the partenership of Superstar Billy Graham and The Magnificent Muraco has come to an end.... Muraco gave Graham a hard shove out of the ring following another loss, due to miscommunication with his manager and as of press time, we have heard word that the two are set to sign for a singles match against one another next month in MSG.... "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas came up short in his quest for the World Title, due in part to Bobby Heenan holding him by the leg and keeping Atlas from re-entering the ring against the World Champion Paul Orndorff... A rematch has been signed for next month, except next month will be a "Lumberjack match"... Speeking of Heenan he unveiled his latest protege to New York City this past Saturday in the maniacal Missing Link...

Slaughter right out of the WWWF...And This last Saturday Night I sent the first man to ever hold the WWWF Intercontinental championship Pat atterson back to his pen pushing role as commisioner... That leaves you Morales as the only man ever to hold the World title, The World tag Team Titles and The Intercontinental Title oh, and that piece of crap nobody cares about The TV Title...There is one true television star here in the WWWF and that's me, so I could use a shiny new belt, that I can use as a a piece of toilet paper if I were to ever run out of TP... SD Jones vs The Missing Link

Poor SD... Someone, somewhere must be pushing him...

Jules Strongbow vs Brutus Beefcake

Younger, brighter heel to snatch the win here.

Tito Santana vs Buddy Rose

You know I'd probably book this as the opening match of the first Wrestlemania if it were me... Same result as that time too...

Ricky Steamboat & Ted Dibiase vs Greg Valentine & Bob Orton

This is a toughie but Steamboat has to be climbing up to face Orndorff soon I reckon and Dibiase should already be around IC level.

"Superstar" Billy Graham vs "The Magnificent" Muraco

This is tough. But I'm going with the Rock...

Pedro Morales vs Roddy Piper

Piper's on a roll to the top of the card. Love the booking you're doing with him here.

By nefarious means. I think the switch is coming... just not yet...

WWWF WORLD TITLE LUMBERJACK MATCH

(Challenger) Tony Atlas vs (Champion) Paul Orndorff

I thought for a while that you were going to make the switch and I've enjoyed the build of Mr USA... but I don't think I'd buy him as World Champ just now. It's a pity but I don't think he's the man to save the WWWF.

Too bad Rose can't catch a break here. It could make 3 diaries where he's the straw that stirs the drink. Maybe down the road as the NE fans get more used to him, he can break out and be a star. Meanwhile, the Taco salesman picks up another W.

Ricky Steamboat & Ted Dibiase vs Greg Valentine & Bob Orton

tough one to choose - but to throw a monkeywrench idea out there....Dibase suffers/fakes/ a knee injury and does not tag into a tired Steamboat late in the match which leads to a heel victory (at least a hint of a heel turn and rumors that he may have taken Hart's money...or sympathy for the injury and not being able to help his friend). It would be one way to kick off Dibiase's challenge to Steamboat's IC title (or go full blown heel turn and have Ted challenge Steamboat in very near future) or could just be a swerve and Dibiase continues down the straight and narrow path of good (Ted was a major babyface in Midsouth and GA before he became "famous" as the Million Dollar Man for Vince, so I could see him rising up to challenge Orndorff before an inevitable heel turn. He was involved in many infamous angles including the Freebird piledriver on the floor and the wildly successul double turn with Murdoch in a tv match vs Ric Flair). I think we'll see big things from Dibiase very soon as he gets in some elevated storylines.

"Superstar" Billy Graham vs "The Magnificent" Muraco

from the way I booked the previous match, Superstar would need to score a win (most likely COR as Muraco wants nothing to do with his former manager) and set up a rematch next month (where Muraco sends his mentor out in style). Gotta luv Superstar's promo's though

Pedro Morales vs Roddy Piper

The future vs the past. Morales can still go and worthy of being in the title pictures. A win here furthers Piper's role as the legend killer

WWWF TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

(Challengers) Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo vs (Champions) Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch

I'm going with the champs retaining the first time. Their experience proves to be too much for the youngsters at THIS time, finding a way to cheat for the win late in the grueling match (brass knux, foot on the ropes, etc). It will be close and I'm sure the champs will be "scared" want no part of a rematch - possibly even setting up some roadblocks trying to prevent it.

WWWF WORLD TITLE LUMBERJACK MATCH

(Challenger) Tony Atlas vs (Champion) Paul Orndorff

it's a Lumberjack match, so I think it's almost obligatory that we have a non-finish DDQ due to the lumberjacks getting involved. :D

You've done a masterful job of working Atlas up to being a World title contender. It's easy to take real life world champs like Steamboat (or even Backlund/Morales) as push them as top contenders, but quite another to give us a career mid/upper midcard guy like Atlas and have many wonder if you might actually pull the switch or not. Tony might not be as over nationally, but then again you're not national right now. You need a guy who can draw fans in the North East (and the frontiers like Texas and Canada that you're working). Atlas could actually do that, and/or be a nice bridge to a champion like Big John Studd or King Kong Bundy if you so chose (or even to give Piper the world title he never held). WWF history is littered with guys who were simply bridge champions.

with that said, I look forward to see who's the next guy you work to bring up the roster for a unlikely major title shot. Keep us guessing and wondering if "this will be the guy" who finally unseats Mr Wonderful
