PWI Weekly: An inside look at whats happening in the world of professional wrestling

WWWF:

Coming off a big event in Madison Square Garden, more issues have come to the forefront , than have been resolved... Magnificent Muraco/Billy Graham feud escalated to the next level... Following his victory, Muraco fought Superstar Billy Graham on the floor and pulled a belt off a fan and proceeded to unmercifully whip the Superstar... Also that same night, Roddy Piper fell to Pedro Morales, but not until Pedro was brutally beaten with a chain by Piper... Tito Santana involved himself, swiping the chain and then tossing to Morales, who used it on Piper to get the victory, but Morales took an even worse postmatch beatdown, until Santana shielded Morales using his own body from further beatings from Piper and Bob Orton... Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo thought they had captured the WWWF World tag Team Titles from Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch, when Rotundo pinned Murdoch, however referee Dick Weurhle acknowledged a simultaneous pin by Adonis on Windham, allowing the North/South Connection to retain their titles..... Finally Paul Orndorff defeated Tony Atlas to retain his World Title in a lumberjack, due to outside interference from The Missing Link... The Link and Atlas have signed to meet this Tuesday Night on WWWF Primetime Wrestling.

AWA:

Superclash results: Wahoo McDaniel defended AWA World title against Terry Gordy... Sgt. Slaughter defeated Jack Brisco... Hector Guerrero defeated Gino Hernandez, retaining his AWA Lgt. Heavyweight title... Hulk Hogan & Mike Graham defended the AWA World Tag Team Titles versus Steve Regal & "Dr. D" David Schultz... Ray Stevens & Mr. Saito defeated The High Flyers

MID ATLANTIC:

Jos Leduc & Dory Funk Jr. captured the NWA World tag Team Titles... This marks Leduc's second reign as tag champ, with the other reign coming with Dory's brother Terry Funk... The duo of Funk & Leduc defeated Ric Flair & The Assasin... The title was vacated when Ric Flair's World tag Team Champion partner Harley Race left the NWA

WWW:

The new promotion being run out of Texas, Wild West Wrestling has signed Len Denton, Buddy Rose, Scott Irwin to contracts

CMLL:

Word out of Mexico is that CMLL is in dire straits when it comes to finances and rumors of them closing their doors for good are beginning to surface

WWWF SATURDAY NIGHT WRESTLING

Returns To

THE SPECTRUM

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

SD "SPECIAL DELIVERY" JONES vs LES THORTON

One of Philadelphia's favorites SD Jones looks to get on track in singles action against tough European Les Thorton "The Man of a 1000 Holds"

RICK MARTEL vs BRUTUS BEEFCAKE w/ "Luscious" Johnny Valiant

Martel and Beefcake have faced off before and Martel has been victorious, but Beefcake has been showing improvements and he does have the craft Johnny Valiant in his corner

BLACKJACK MULLIGAN vs "BIG" JOHN STUDD w/ Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

These two have had many battles in the WWWF, but it has been awhile... A win by either, would certainly set the winner up for more higher profile matches in the future

TED DIBIASE vs THE MASKED SUPERSTAR w/ Gary Hart

Gary Hart has continued to pursue Dibiase to become a member of his stable and despite continuous rejections Dibiase continues to climb the ranks of the WWWF... This Saturday in Philadelphia he takes on a man that didnt say no, to Gary Hart's money in The Masked Superstar..

TITO SANTANA & PEDRO MORALES vs "ROWDY" RODDY PIPER & "THE ACE" BOB ORTON

Bad blood has boiled between Piper and The legendary Pedro Morales and now has spilled over to include Piper's bodyguard "Ace" Orton and Pedro's good friend Tito Santana.. Pedro & Tito made a run at the tag titles as a team last year and now look to make a run at being the ones who can shut up the always controversial Roddy Piper

WWWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

(Challengers) "THE US EXPRESS" BARRY WINDHAM & MIKE ROTUNDO w/ Lou Albano vs (CHAMPIONS) "THE NORTH/SOUTH CONNECTION" ADRIAN ADONIS & DICK MURDOCH w/ Gary Hart

Windham & Rotundo have proven to be one of the toughest tests to date for the reigning champions... Last week in MSG, Adonis & Murdoch escaped with the titles because the referee saw Adonis pinning Windham, while Rotundo had Murdoch pinned at the same time... Another rematch this week, as these teams have signed for a series f matches throughout September.. Murdoch & Adonis are also fast approaching the 1 year mark of their title reign... Will we see history this week?

WWWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

(Champion) RICKY "THE DRAGON" STEAMBOAT vs (Challenger) GREG "THE HAMMER" VALENTINE

Steamboat and Valentine have already had a couple of great matches in what some are saying have been the best matches in the WWWF this year... The Dragon has defended his title both times against Valentine... However twice now in tag matches The Hammer has ben able to one up the Dragon by securing pinfall's in those tag matches... Valentine knows he has what it takes to pin Steamboat, but does he have what it takes to pin him with the title on the line... Will history be made this week?

SD Jones vs Les Thorton

upset to start the night. Thornton will not amount to much in WWWF,so here's a chance for the jobber to pick up a win to pass on up the line next week.

Rick Martel vs Brutus Beefcake

Beefcake will not cut the model's hair

Blackjack Mulligan vs "Big" John Studd

Ted Dibiase vs The Masked Superstar

Dibiase picks up the win, making him look even more valuable in Hart's eyes and at the same time an even bigger thorn in his side.

Pedro Morales & Tito Santana vs Roddy Piper & Bob Orton

more experienced as a team against 2 guys who are more likely to let their latin blood boil over and cost them the match

WWWF TAG TITLE MATCH

(Challengers) Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo vs (Champions) Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch

new champs!! would be a shocker for a title change in Philly maybe, but then the rubber match would actually be a title rematch. North-South Connection have had a long run and has to be difficult to find a new storyline for them? could see a singles future for them for the near term?

WWWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH

(Champion) Ricky Steamboat vs (Challenger) Greg Valentine

I almost want to say double title change here at the Spectrum, but Valentine's tag team wins will not carry over to this title match. Would love to see Hammer carry some gold sometime soon - just don't see it happening just yet

He asks what are you getting out of wasting your time teaming with the Tito Santana's and Ricky Steamboats of this world... "I manage champions, I get my men title shots and all I want to do is do that for you Ted", Hart said. Dibiase responded that Hart is nothing but a rat and wants nothing to do with him... Superstar pulled him up and suplexed him back in the ring and then hoisted Dibiase up on the buckle and prepared to go for a superplex... Adonis argued for a bit with Marella, but went to slam Windham's head into Murdoch's boot, But Windham blocked it and slammed Adonis into Murdoch, then sommersaulted across the ring to tag in Rotundo..

(Champion) RICKY "THE DRAGON" STEAMBOAT vs (Challenger) GREG "THE HAMMER" VALENTINE

Greg Valentine grabs the house mic and tells the crowd to get ready for history as tonight, they will be able to tell their grand kids they saw two titles change hands on Saturday Night in The Philadelphia Spectrum.... Steamboat enters the ring and Valentine attacks... He pulls Steamboats jacket off and chokes him with it... Valentine lays in several chops and back rakes...Then slams Steamboats head into turnbuckle... Valentine chops away and whips Steamboat into buckle and as Valentine charges he is met with a Steamboat flurry of chops... Each successive one drops Valentine on his back... Steamboat goes into a sequence of his patented deep arm drags... Steamboat holds an armbar, but Valentine slams his way out, only Steamboat held on and flips Valentine over and maintains the arm bar... Valentine single leg trips and quickly tries to grab a figure four, but Steamboat from being on his back kicks Valentine off by using his foot to push him in the rear... Then another round of Steamboat deep arm drags... Valentine manages to get to his feet and back Steamboat into corner, who is still holding an armbar and headbutts Steamboat.. Valentine nails several forearm uppercuts, then grabs Steamboat by the hair and tosses him over the top rope... Valentine applauds himself, only Steamboat held on to top rope and skinned the cat back in and then went into another series of successive Steamboat armdrags...

Steamboat holds the arm baragain and as valentine battles back to his feet, he connects with a knee lift, then another, then another, followed by an elbow to the top of the head and an inverted atomic drop...Valentine then dropped an elbow across the back of Steamboats head... Valentine stands over Steamboat and stomps on his leg repeatedly.. Valentine draped Steamboats leg over bottom rope and three times he jumped up and crashed down with his weight across Steamboats leg... Steamboat realed in pain in the ring holding his leg... Valentine covered and got a 2 count... Valentine, pulled Steamboats leg up and planted a boot to the back of Steamboats knee and went for figure four, but Steamboat reached up and small packaged him for a 2 count... Valentine quickly clipped Steamboats knee to maintain advantage and Valentine applied the figure four... Referee Dick Kroll asked Steamboat if he wanted to submit, and Steamboat grabbed Kroll by the shirt and screamed noooo! Steamboat used all his might to finally turn Valentine and reverse the pressure... Valentine broke free, but as both men got to their feet, Steamboat was obviously hobblying...

The two then went into a monumental exchange of knife edge chops... The smack could be heard across throughout the building... Back and forth they bruised each others chest, finally Valentine clipped Steamboat again and went for figure four... Steamboat twisted, and turned to avoid having it put on, so Valentine dropped an elbow to the inside of the leg.. Repeat move by Valentine, then Valentine quickly climbed up to the second rope and measured Steamboat and jumped off with a diving forearm, but Steamboat pulled up a boot and it met Valentine's face.. Steamboat to his feet, scoops up Valentine, but cant hold him as he knee gives out and Valentine falls on top for the 1...2.....7/8th... Both men to their feet and Steamboat with a single leg trip and he applies the figure four ON Valentine! The Hammer's face is beat red as he anguishes in pain... He refuses to give and after a minute or two The hammer finally gets to the ropes for the break.. Both men to their feet again and the chop exchange is back on again... Both men have to grab the ropes to keep from falling as the legs are in pain from both having suffered the pain from a figure four..

Steamboat ducks a Valentine chop and bounces off ropes for high cross body and a 1...2... but Valentine rolls through and grabs the tights for the 1...2.....7/8th! Valentine goes for a slam, but Steamboat floats over and runs The Hammer into ropes and rolls him up for the 1...2.... 3/4, but Valentine pulls through and grabs the tights for another 2 3/4 count... Valentine rakes the yes and goes for a kneedrop, but Steamboat moves and Valentine agonizes in pain on the mat holding his knee, that had been hurt earlier.. Steamboat agn goes for a slam, but again his leg gives out and Valentine falls on top for the 1...2....7/8th! Valentine rakes the eyes and grabs a side suplex and drops Steamboat and bridges, Valentine's leg slips and he loses the bridge momentarily but the referee Dick Kroll counts 1....2.....3.....

Valentine raises his hands as he struggles to his feet... Referee Dick Kroll comes over and explains that Steamboat lifted his shoulder before the 3 count and that valentine's own shoulders were pinned to the mat... Kroll hands the title to Steamboat and raises his hand as Gary Michael Capetta makes the call

STUDIO:

GORILLA: Hello everyone, welcome to primetime wrestling here on the MSG network, and we have big news in the WWWF. This past Saturday Night at the Philadelphia Spectrum, new World tag Team Champions were crowned as Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo defeated The North/South Connection and took home the gold

BRAIN: Fluke

GORILLA: Fluke, what do you mean fluke... They beat them right here on Primetime a few weeks back in a non-title and then almost took the belts at the Garden a week ago and then 1...2....3.. Right in the middle of the ring in Philadelphia

BRAIN: It will go down as the shortest reign in the history of sports, because all they've done is make Murdoch and Adonis mad... Maybe they did get a little complacent, afterall they've beat everyone thrown their way for almost a year...Now, that mad and I feel sorry for those new champs after whats going to happen to them in Boston this coming Saturday Night

GORILLA: Great show for you tonight as your men Bundy and Studd battle The Strongbows in our main event.. Lets go to ringside with Gene Okerlund and Lord Alfred Hayes

Now here gets his Latino partner Tito Santana coming to do some of his fighting for him.... So let me be the first and probably only person to call Tito Santana a legend, because that means he becomes a target of the Hot Rod and he's next... Oh, look what we have here...

(TITO SANTANA walks in)

PIPER: Mr. Santana , you seem to be fighting the battle for your Latino friend Mr. Pdero Morales, and I get it... You Latino's have to stick together... I understand, you're a little slow, some have flat feet.

TITO: Roddy Piper, I'll show you slow... I'll show you how fast I can yank a chain out of your hands and use it on you and cost you a match

<em>As much as I'd love to see the Duke score his first win... it's not going to be against Mr USA!</em></p><p> </p><p>

Rick McGraw & Scotty McGhee vs <strong>Buddy Rose & Buddy Landell</strong></p><p>

<em>Buddy System all the way - the new champs need challengers</em></p><p> </p><p>

B. Brian Blair vs <strong>The Masked Superstar</strong></p><p>

<em>Superstar is getting a decent push which is always welcome in my book.</em></p><p> </p><p>

George "The Animal" Steele vs The Missing Link</p><p>

<em>And if this doesn't scream out Double DQ then I don't know what does!</em></p><p> </p><p>

Intercontinental Title Match</p><p>

(Champion) Ricky Steamboat vs (Challenger) <strong>Greg Valentine</strong></p><p>

<em>Two title changes in two weeks? Surely not! But I love the Hammer and I think feuds with Dibiase and Santana are in his immediate future, leaving The Dragon to go after Mr Wonderful</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Tito Santana</strong> vs Roddy Piper</p><p>

<em>Bucking a trend here but Piper has been bullying all of the old guard, let's see how he stands up against a young buck like Tito. I don't think it'll be clean though - perhaps awarded by DQ with a full scale brawl involving Pedro & Orton</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

(Champions) <strong>Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo</strong> vs (Challengers) Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch</p><p>

<em>A one week title reign in the WWWF? I don't think so! This one can still run though while we build up new heel challengers. I can see an eventual split coming down the road - I've just no idea which one could possibly go face - they're both horrid!!!</em></p><p> </p><p>

<p>Tony Atlas vs <strong>Pete Doherty</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Let me say this, in no way, shape, or form do I think the Duke is going to win this match. That being said I have to go with him just based on how awesome he was.</p><p> </p><p>

Rick McGraw & Scotty McGhee vs <strong>Buddy Rose & Buddy Landell</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Yeah I am going to have to go with the two non-jobbers in this match.<img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>B. Brian Blair</strong> vs The Masked Superstar</p><p> </p><p>

I am going to go against popular opinion on this one. I think you can make something out of B. Brian Blair. I am probably wrong in regards to the outcome of this match but hey I already threw out any chance of having a decent W-L for this card when I picked the Duke to win.</p><p> </p><p>

George "The Animal" Steele vs <strong>The Missing Link</strong></p><p> </p><p>

I really want to pick George to win but at this point I probably already have two losses so I am going to go with Dewy on this one.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>This could be a draw, but for some reason I feel like Steele will pick up the win.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Gotta take Steamboat even though he's got to be close to your top face at this point and would be better served in a more high profile feud.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Tito Santana vs <strong>Roddy Piper</strong></p><p>

<em>With help from "Ace".</em></p><p> </p><p>

Throughout the first half the match, each and everytime The Dragon managed to take control, The Hammer would slide out of the ring and collect himself... He did this no less than 10 times throughout this match drawing the ire of the Boston fans, who began to throw debris at him... Valentine would pair off with several fans in shouting matches and threatened to go after fans on multiple occasions.. Steamboat became enraged at The Hammer's stall tactics, that he finally went after Valentine and dragged him back to the ring after Valentine walked all the way back to the curtain.. Steamboat was ready for a fight and wanted to defend his title an not take a CO victory... The Dragon dragged Valentine back to rng and slammed his head on apron and laid in with several chops on the floor... He rolled Valentine in and climbed ropes and nailed a leaping tomahawk chop across the top of Valentine's head for a 2 1/2 count... Steamboat nailed a slam, then went to the apron and went for a slingshot splash up and over the top rope, but Valentine brought up his knees..</p><p> </p><p> The Hammer, then went to work on Steamboat's legs, taking it to the mat and yanking on the leg in directions it wasnt supposed to go... Valentine dropped several elbows to the inside of Steamboats leg as he anguished in pain...
