It's incredibly difficult, and Condit was much more fussy than most of GSP's opponents in not allowing himself to be held down. He was constantly working and scrambling and moving GSP. Honestly really not a big fan of GSP but I was impressed by his recovery and I don't hate him as much as I did, he's a great fighter I just don't enjoy his style too much, but he's the best at it, that's for sure Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Fantabulous Posted November 23, 2012 Share Posted November 23, 2012 GSP/Condit was an example of how losing a great fight can raise your value a lot. Condit isn't at the top tier of guys like GSP/Silva/Jones who can headline a PPV and draw good numbers regardless of their opponent, but I think he is now at the second level, where he can headline a FOX show with no problems. As for another crack at the title, I think because he was dominated for the majority of the fight, he'll need two strong wins before getting another crack. And even then, it could take a while because there are a number of guys ahead of him who are likely to get a title shot. Next for Condit I think is going to be Kampmann, because they'd both be coming off losses and you'd get at least one back on track, and also because Kampmann was the last guy before GSP to beat Condit and it was split decision that could have gone either way. I would like to see the Diaz first because that's the more winnable fight, where the Hendricks fight could easily be lost with one punch, and if GSP does get KO'd by Hendricks, I think that would take some of the shine off of GSP/Diaz. Saturday was one of my best 'fight days' for a long time. I got to work at the insane CAge Warriors 50 show up in Glasgow (potential CW card of the year) which had Bellator's Wilson Reis taking on Rowdy Owen Roddy in a fight of the year candidate. Then I got to chill back at the hotel watching UFC on Fox and the Manny/JMM fight on giant projectors. And as for Diaz potentially no-showing the presser again or otherwise fouling up, well, there's a reason they've loaded the card with other top Welterweights, including Hendricks. If Diaz does screw up again, and I don't see how anyone can be shocked if that happens, then there is a good chance Hendricks will get the title shot he deserves a lot sooner than expected. That and they can quite legitimately point out that GSP wanted the Diaz fight and asked for it. That's all well and good, but sports can't be run this way. It undermines the integrity of the sport itself. Otherwise Notre Dame would play for the national championship every week and the Yankees would be in the Series every year regardless of their accomplishments. Simply because it makes the most money. I don't think that a WWE argument that it's what the fans want or that it's what makes the most money, or it's what GSP wanted holds much water at all. Hendricks had been told numerous times that he would be the #1 contender and he should be. In a fair sport none of that other stuff matters. So yes, they can do it, but the sport itself suffers in the chase for the almighty dollar. This isn't the first time that this kind of thing happens. The UFC backs away from guys that they don't know what to do with. It's why Fitch (pre-Hendricks) never got another shot at GSP or why Rashad isn't even mentioned anymore despite being one of the top 205ers around. It's part of the reason that Rampage walked, and it clearly shows that the UFC is in total control of it. Sometimes that good, sometimes it's bad. In this situation it's bad.
