I really enjoy the game as a good multiplayer game but a lot of online players are way too good at the game. The new multiplayer mode where you have to defend a position from the Locust horde from destroying it is terrible, I can't remember what it's called. I hate it mainly because it feels like its a departure from what Gears online should be.

Execution was available as DLC as it should be, that's one of the main mode's I play. I also play free-for-all with my friend and that's the mode I play the most. The campaign was really good but not as good as previous games. I rarely play co-op campaign and it's okay.

The weapons are always great in the Gears games though as I believe they did those very well as usual. The new maps are okay though and my friend and I only play a select number of them on free-for-all, the ones that are available for the mode of course.

I agree with you that you spend most of the time running around but that can be avoided once you figure out where most people fight on whatever map you play. Action tends to spill in certain areas in maps... I can't think of an example but that's what I've found playing online. I also agree that the game feels rushed especially when it comes to the campaign mode. I know I said I liked the campaign mode but it felt too short so I bet they rushed it since Epic knew multiplayer is the main selling point.

It's hard to defend a point I had so many months ago, but I can reflect on how I feel now about the game. And compared to Gears games previous, it's by far my least favorite to play online.

I ended up running through the campaign on Hardcore with a buddy and it equally sucked ass. I'm still a fan of the series and will still check otu sequels (for now). But I traded in Judgement when i could get $30 for it and havent regretted that decision for one day of my life.

On the state of computer games in general:

The last couple of months (maybe even the last full year) I've been changing my focus from console gaming to PC gaming. This has a little to do with the fact that my screen is 2" bigger, but the real reasons are a little different.

- The rise of the bundles and the steam sales:

It seems everyone is just exponentially increasing his backlog with these great deals. Currently, everyone is in the phase of "wow, this is too good to pass up", but in the end, you won't be able to play all of these. Well... not until you dedicate your life to gaming. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I've been asking myself the question as I bought the new Batman: why on earth do I spend 40€ on that sh*t if I can just play something at least equally enjoyable for a couple of bucks on pc?

- PC as a specialized platform:

There's a market for either deep genregames like CKII, TEW and Blood Bowl, and experimental indy games on the PC. Also: adventures are back on the menu, and it's just very hard for console to bat me away from the pc screen. Unless people are coming over to play, but given my age, that happens less and less. Combine this with the new trend of making games as bland as possible, with the AAA titles offering little more than a means for wasting one's time (imo).

- Dubious marketing moves by M$ & Sony

In the creation of their new consoles, both leading hardware dev's made some conscious choices to implement a certain policy. I'm afraid it's not the policy that could concur with my preferences. I can do basically everything on a pc. I don't need a console for that. By expanding their focus, they're alienating from their customer. I'm not saying that it's not about gaming anymore, but it creates the perception that it isn't.

These three reasons I believe made it so that I changed my focus to PC for the first time in 10 years. Do you guys feel the same?

BTW: If anyone missed the WB deal on humblebundle, featuring the first 2 Batman games (GotY) and the FEAR trilogy, gimme a pm and I'll trade it against something. Anything. I accidently bought 2 in my false excitement. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Well my anticipation of getting a PS4 wained when I saw the launch lineup.

COD, Battlefield 4, NFS Rivals and Killzone do not interest me. Neither does a next gen Fifa or NBA game.

At this rate, it might become a valentine's present to myself

I'm not liking the future landscape of console games either even though I probably will eventually get a PS4... I have been faithful with Microsoft up to this point and find it insulting that they want to shift away just to please the general audience and making the Xbox One the "all in one" entertainment system. Voice commands and streaming TV while I play a game doesn't really wow me. Having said that, I still would LOVE to try out Dead Rising 3 but in no way shape or form am I buying the Xbox One just for that game.

I have been getting into computer games for the last year or so and I love Steam, GOG, and just recently found out about Desura I think through this thread. Fallout 1 & 2, The Dream Machine, Planescape Torment, Machinarium, Gemini Rue (actually I have really gotten into Wadjet Eye Games' games recently) and of course TEW have become some of my favorite games. So yes, in many ways I am starting to play a lot more games on the PC but I still play console games. However, I don't play my Xbox 360 to go online anymore. Online play has grown stale to me and I don't even wish my worst enemy to try to play any WWE games online anymore! However, I still like to get DLC and play my single player games like the new Batman series and even some of the great new Arcade games like The Walking Dead and A Wolf Among Us by the Telltale Games crew. I even bought Telltale Games' Back to the Future game and that's awesome to play on my PC! So yeah, I guess I have been playing more PC friendly games especially since I don't really desire to play online multiplayer games. In fact, I dread having to play any online multiplayer game these days.

Well my anticipation of getting a PS4 wained when I saw the launch lineup.

COD, Battlefield 4, NFS Rivals and Killzone do not interest me. I'm with you on this, Clarty, as I hate the Call of Duty games with a passion and don't care for the rest of those games you listed. I might try them out but they don't really appeal to me. The lack of interesting console titles 'forced' me to revisit the games of old. Soon I'll probably play the BG saga again (now 'enhanced', though I'm not suspecting it will be better than a fully modded BG). So I don't really mind the evolution.

I got Far Cry 3 in the Steam sale, but I haven't installed it yet (because I also got Sleeping Dogs and that game is EXCELLENT), so we'll have to wait and see how it copes with that.

Generally though I find that I'm just not a big fan of AAA games these days and that's the only thing I really need a console for. AC4 was fun for a while, before I realised it was still an AC game and I could kill people with my eyes closed (no really, I tested it. I took some damage, which was a new experience in an AC game I'll admit, but they died and I didn't). GTAV was fun, no doubting that. But Halo? Battlefield? CoD? You can keep 'em, thanks. If I want an FPS I have TF2. Much more fun and interesting. Titanfall is the only game I can honestly say I feel I'm "missing out on" by not owning a console, and it's not out yet. And it might be shit.

The other big reason is... well... here's my most played games on Steam (in terms of hours played, not necessarily favourites (Bastion is still my favourite video game of all time but doesn't get on here because it's a relatively short single player experience compared to this lot)):

Crusader Kings 2

Football Manager 2013 (I think that included going to bed with it still running a few times though)

Blood Bowl

Team Fortress 2

Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Tropico 4 (surprised that's ahead of...)

Skyrim

Terraria

Europa Universalis 4

Kerbal Space Program

Fallen Enchantress

Civilization 5

NONE of those games would work at all on a console, with the exception of Witcher 2 and Skyrim. And TF2 I guess, but most of the fun in TF2 is the mods, which a console wouldn't have.

So yeah. That's probably why. It's not so much that I hate consoles (well, I do hate the X-Bone <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png">), but that I have no real need for one. There is literally nothing I could/would do on a PS4 that my PC can't do, except for playing the latest games on max graphics settings.

Max graphics settings are not worth nearly a month's wages to me. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png">

Edit: I've just remembered why Tropico 4 is so high up on the list. Before I bought it in the sale, it was on a Free Weekend and I left the game running in the background for 2 days while I was away, so that I could still play it after the free weekend ended. ¬_¬ ¬_¬

We'll see I guess. Will definately buy.

Kinda weird indeed. I get gifting number 1, but the entire threesome? It won't really affect buyer behaviour. Most will already have played 3 or New Vegas.

edit: well, it DOES lure new members in that might get the emails containing the awesome GOG deals. That might be good for them.

So, I own COD: Black Ops 1 and 2.

And I tried playing MW3 and did not like it. But I enjoy Black Ops 2.

I also had Battlefield 3 and hated it as well.

I was thinking about getting COD: Ghosts, does anyone know if it's any good? I don't want to get it if it's going to suck. But I do want a new game.

I saw this and headed straight over to get them. While I still have them all physically, I would never hurt to get a digital version.

I saw when I grabbed them a disclaimer text saying that the rights to those games where going elsewhere and it may vanish at any moment. Prehaps thats why they were giving it away
