"They always say, 'you can't kill this business, you can only bruise it'. But what happened with WCW is living proof that you can kill this business when the people running it know nothing about it".

- Bobby Heenan, WCW Announcer from 1994-2000.

* The picture pick pack is large, however it's useful. We've made good use of the new "Shared Picture Folder" option, meaning if you have the 2002 mod picture pack you will have most pics but....

* The picture pack has been updated quite a bit and I've uploaded the folders required, once downloaded simply extract them into the 2002 picture folder and overwrite the old folders when prompted. It should all be available as always on Bobinc.net very soon. (When I remember to ask him if it's cool :p ). It's very much suggested you download the whole pack, it does take a while but every worker has a pic and quite a bit of work has gone into assembling the folders. Big shout out once again to the graphics guys!

The Story So Far.....

North America

With the territory system a distant memory the pro wrestling scene in North America is just emerging from it's latest war for dominance. Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation is once again the only Global promotion left when the dust has settled with rumours abound he is about to buy his two biggest competitors, WCW and ECW. The subsequent dream Invasion angle that many a wrestling fan has salivated over for decades looks to becoming close to reality and the timing could not be better as pro wrestling continues it's industry boom in North America.

Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling are hanging on for dear life looking for ways to maintain their viability. Meanwhile various indy promotions with different and ranging styles are springing up around the place riding on the success of the industry.

Japan

Rocked by the death of Giant Baba in 1999, the Japanese wrestling scene is still feeling the effects of one of it's true legends passing. The founder of All Japan Pro Wrestling Giant Baba left the ownership of the company to his widow Motoko Baba and had Mitsuharu Misawa appointed as president. However, disheartened with Motoko Baba's proposed direction for the company, Misawa would depart the promotion in May of 2000 to form a new promotion called Pro Wrestling Noah. With Misawa followed all but two native stars (Masanobu Fuchi and Toshiaki Kawada being the only hold-outs), and is considered to be one of the biggest exoduses of talent in the sport's history.

New Japan Pro Wrestling continues it's reign as the number one company in Japan. While Antonio Inoki's booking the past few years seems to be slipping the NJPW name is still considered the most prestigious in the country. The recent influx of MMA crossover stars has spiked ratings for New Japan but many experts have expressed their concern it could do irreparable harm to the product, especially the fact that more and more NJPW stars are trying their hand in an MMA ring.

Mexico

The 90's witnessed Mexico robbed of it's greatest lucha's to the lure of North American money. As WCW and WWF signed hot prospect after prospect, Mexico's two biggest mainstay promotion's CMLL and AAA watched as their rosters were stripped almost bare. Now in the early 2000's both company's have put their future in the hands of young workers and have seen an immediate impact. Large crowds have started to return to events and new stars are being born again. Having learned the lessons of the past Mexican Luch Libre is looking to return to the forefront of professional wrestling.

Australia

It's glory years long gone Australian wrestling returned with a massive bang in the late 90's. Coinciding with the introduction of cable TV in the country the Monday Night Wars drew Aussie wrestling fans back to the sport in droves.

Notes And Things

* It's not easy to simulate the WCW situation at the time so if you're playing as WWF and by around April still can't buy out WCW try editing them down in pop and other things. If you have any problems please report them.

* Dojos Graduates have had a huge amount of work put into them with the number now totalling 405, this is useful for future workers debuting in certain promotions.

* MCW was one of the WWF's development territories at the time but to make things sim better in the long run HWA has replaced them 6 months earlier then in reality. Any workers on development deals working in MCW at the time have been signed to HWA on the same type of contracts.

* A relationship between Vince McMahon and Sting has been added to prevent Sting signing with the WWF. Vince is only booker not owner of the company though so if you play as head booker you can hire him without any issues.

* If you're playing as WCW and don't want to go bankrupt within months, go into the editor and into the "Narrative" section. Once there you will notice the first load of entries have been labelled with an "@" so they are the first on the list in a group. Select "Mass Delete" from the left panel and then select all of the Narrative's that begin with "@ WCW".

* If you're playing as ECW and don't want to go bankrupt within months, go into the editor and into the "Narrative" section. Once there you will notice the first load of entries have been labelled with an "@" so they are the first on the list in a group. Select "Mass Delete" from the left panel and then select all of the Narrative's that begin with "@ ECW".

* Please report any typos, errors, odd things etc for future update fixes.

Enjoy

:)

Man this is great. I can't wait to play but it'll be a couple weeks. As much as I hate to wait, I've been watching every Nitro, PPV, and occasional Thunder from the start of January 1999. I've been trying to get the full effect, going as far as even reading the dirtsheet archives from the time. I'm in August 2000 though so I'm getting close.

The narrative of Tuesday Week 1 are good, they help. Do they have an effect on anything?

Nope, none in the first week do, all there for immersion. I'd say around 75% of all of my narratives have no effect and are there to try and get you back to that time and remembering certain things. That's why I included all forms of entertainment, maybe a song or movie, or news story will take you back even for a brief second and bring back some memories from that time :) I know everytime I see the one's from January Week 1, Saturday I get all nostalgiac!

This feature is a heaven sent for mod makers like myself who enjoy getting into the time period we're playing as much as possible. A really, really awesome addition to the series.

ECW Arena is in the game, it's just labeled The Arena, like in real life right now.

P.S. What wrestlers in this mod had the worst real life match against each other? I would like to know as I am adding at least one chemistry notation to mine before I start. I'm assuming it might have Buff Bagwell in it...
