Coach Mau and his Career

Recommended Posts

Coleman has stayed the same QB he's been for the past two seasons, rated a 4/6 after training, yet again. Our RB situation continues to suck, Carlson and Graham will fight for the spot; they're both rated a 2/5. Carlson is a sophomore who last year ran for 1000+ yards. I say he'll get the nod right away, but I don't know yet for sure. Our linebacker situation is TIGHT. DL positions are good to go as well. Scheduling We picked up 38th ranked Syracuse in Week 15, otherwise we've got UAB, UTEP, and Cinci back from last season.

2014 Season Recruiting Class is ranked 77th. Ouch. After finishing a top 10 team, we'll have to work our way back up to the top 10 this year once again as we don't even get any votes in the pre-season polls. Our expectations are now to finish around .500 and beat Air Force. Those should not be a problem as long as QB Coleman is around; this will be his last year though as he's a senior now. The years just fly by, don't they? His number should be retired from my school at year's end. I am guessing we do well this year, much like last year. We have the team to go 12-1 again, but we could very well go 8-5. It'll be another fun season, that's for sure!

Week 1 @ 0-0 UTEP - UTEP faves by 11 They shouldn't be favorites by this much, or even at all, but that's the way it goes! Coleman should have a good game against this weak secondary, our running game should have a tough time though against a good DL and LB crew. I'm ready for a good all around game. 1st Quarter UTEP gets on the board first with a field goal with 4 minutes to go in the 1st quarter. 3-0. Just as the first quarter comes to an end, we get into the endzone on an 11 yard pass play from Coleman to Alexander. 7-3. 2nd Quarter We get into the endzone again, this time to TE Triplett for six. 14-3 with 8 minutes to play in the half. That would be all the scoring in the 2nd quarter. 14-3 as we lead UTEP. Graham has been getting the bulk of the carries after Carlson started the game off with 6 carries for -3 yards. Graham has taken advantage and has 8 carries for 64 yards already. We'll be able to focus more on the running game in the second half as we slowly pull away. 3rd Quarter Ouch. UTEP needed two plays into the 2nd half to score. A 71 yard touchdown pass makes it 14-11(2 point) early on in the second half. A quick fumble gives UTEP the ball back, they gain a total of four yards and kick a 45 yard field goal to tie it up at 14. We answer back a few drives later near the end of the 3rd quarter with a touchdown. It's 21-14 following a Coleman to Shuler touchdown! UTEP needs only three plays to get into the endzone, the scoring play being a 57 yard touchdown pass. That's two big plays we've given up! Arrrggh! 21-21, still in the 3rd. 4th Quarter We open up the 4th quarter with a lead taking field goal from Turner. 24-21. UTEP answers back with a 22 yard field goal. Tied up yet again. 24-24 with 12 minutes to play in the game. UTEP gets another field goal to take the lead 27-24. Nope! Penalty, offsides SDSU, first down and goal now for UTEP. Noo! 31-24 as UTEP takes advantage of our stupid mistake. Ooh, boy! Graham fumbles it at mid field and UTEP picks it up and brings it all the way down to our 10 yard line where they eventually settle for a field goal. 34-24 with under 5 minutes to go. Tough luck. We rush down the field, we get a 35 yard gain on our second play which sets us up on the UTEP 39 yard line where we throw a deeper route again and it's complete to Moss who runs 39 yards for the touchdown!! 34-31! Still three minutes to go! Three running plays later we hold UTEP to a punt! We get a nice 11 yard return which allows us to start on the UTEP 49 yard line with 1:52 on the clock! No need to force deep balls now, just get into field goal range and push it into OT at worst! We pass our way down into the redzone where we have just under a minute to go. We decide to give Graham the ball who's having a good day despite his stupid fumble earlier on. He takes the pitch to the outside and runs it for 14 yards to the 6 yard line with 33 seconds to go! All right! 1st and Goal - Sacked! We will be calling a timeout after the next play, which will be our last as we try for the endzone one more time! 2nd and Goal - Short pass....INTERCEPTED! Ooooohh, myy! Crap! This one is over folks. Our aggressive end of game playcalling costs us the game as UTEP's defense comes up HUGE with 15 seconds to go! 34-31 final score in Texas! 34 of 51, 374 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT. That last interception really put a damper on what looked to be a great game for Coleman. What a rotten way to start the season...... I'll take the blame for that one as we went to our bread and butter pass play which UTEP probably picked up on from the get-go. Mannn-oooh-mannn. Graham finished with 17 carries for 132 yards. We start the season 0-1. *shakes head*

Week 2 @ 1-0 Cincinatti - Cinci by 5 Last year they finished 0-11, but this year with the improvement on last year's actually decent squad, they'll be a tough opponent for us. We should still win though through the arm of Coleman and the legs of Graham. Let's git'r done. 1st Quarter Petruziello gets thing started on defense as he picks off a Cincinatti pass on the second play of the game. A few drives later, Coleman completes his first pass of three attempts and it's a long 39 yard touchdown pass to Triplett who broke free of the defenders and took it in for six. 7-0 midway through the 1st. As the first quarter comes to an end, Coleman connected to Freshman WR Jim Jones with a 10 yard touchdown pass and catch. That would be the start of quite possibly a good career for the youngster. 14-0 as we start the 2nd. 2nd quarter Joe Baker starts off the 2nd quarter with his 2nd interception on the season. The free safety looking to have a great year. Pete Graham gets into the endzone with a 4 yard touchdown run. 21-0, 5 minutes to go in the half. With over a minute to go in the half and our ball at the 32 yard line, we decide to take a shot at getting into the endzone again. It didn't take long, 5 plays, 68 yards capped off with a 53 yard touchdown pass to Alexander who catches his second TD of the season. 28-0 at the half. Coleman, 14 of 23, 258 yards, 3 TDs. 3rd Quarter 28-3 as the Bearcats finally get on the board. Carlson gets into the endzone on a nice 13 yard touchdown run. 35-3 with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. That was a good six minute drive. 4th Quarter Cincinatti gets another three points to start the 4th quarter. 35-6. Cincinatti gets into the endzone to close out the game, 35-13 final score. 1-1, such a nice win. Our running game did absolutely nothing the whole game. I think I passed seven times in the second half, I tried to get those back into a groove, but, well, I guess Carlson had a decent game with half the carries as Graham. Coleman - 19 of 28, 310 yards, 3 TD Graham - 31 carries, 67 yards, 1 TD Carlson - 14 rushes, 54 yards, 1 TD We get a week off before playing 6 in a row, all at home except against New Mexico.

Week 4 vs 0-2 Wyoming - We're favorites by 6 Not a whole lot to say except GOOD LUCK WYOMING. We will massacre these guys, quite possibly twice as bad as Cincinatti. 1st Quarter A very simple first drive to start the game. 7 plays, 7 passes, 7 completions, 94 yards(penalty), 1 touchdown pass to Graham for a quick 7-0 lead. 7-7 as Wyoming marches right back down the field for a touchdown of their own. The calls made by me were always the wrong call as Wyoming went to the air when we expected run and vice versa. Hopefully the WYO coach doesn't pwn me all game like that. Oooh, boy. Wyoming takes the laed following a 37 yard touchdown pass. 14-7, 3 minutes in the 1st. Our next drive we decide to stay on the ground some more, and it paid off as Graham and Carlson combined for 56 yards on the ground; Graham's touchdown was from 16 yards out. That tied up the ball game again, 14-14. 1st quarter just comes to an end. High octane offenses so far. Coleman is still perfect in passing, 11 of 11, 158 yards. 2nd Quarter The defense is finally able to stop Wyoming who started on our 37 yard line following a nice return and a face mask penalty. The defense blocked the FG attempt, giving us the ball back. The defense doesn't stay hot as with 7 minutes to go in the half, Wyoming marched down the field again and got another TD. 21-14. *under estimated 'em?* Ahhh.. Coleman's first incompletion comes on a 3rd and 3 on the Wyoming 11 yard line, forcing us to kick a field goal. 21-17. Coleman is 16 of 17...weak. ;) Stingley comes up with a big pick deep in Wyoming territory with under two minutes to go. 1st and 10 on the WYO 19. Coleman goes 3 for 3 including a 6 yard touchdown pass to Alexander, which is his 3rd TD catch on the year. 24-21 as we take the lead as we near halftime. We try for a 57 yard field goal, but fall short as time expires in the half. Coleman threw one more incomplete pass, finishing the half 22 of 24 for 238 yards, 2 TD. Impressive. Graham and Carlson both have 36 yards rushing on 7 and 6 carries respectively. 3rd Quarter Graham suffers a little injury, he'll sit out the rest of the game as a precaution. WR Jones gets his 2nd catch of the season, which also happens to be his 2nd TD of the year. 31-21 as we start to take over the game. Carlson had 66 yards on the ground before he finally got stopped in the redzone. DE Beebe comes up with the tipped pass and returns it 75 yards for the touchdown, giving us a 37-21 lead(missed EP). We continue our defensive dominance(okay just the 2nd half) with an interception from Bly this time. 37-29 following a 94 yard interception return for a touchdown! On 3rd and Goal from the 8 yard line, we were forced to pass(well, maybe not forced...but I wasn't going to run it from that far out) and Coleman threw it into the defender's hands. Ouch. Wyoming still alive. 4th Quarter CB Vinny Hope gives us increased hope to win this game as he comes up big with 8 minutes to play in the game. That's our 4th interception on the day. Coleman gets his fourth TD pass of the day, this one to Triplett, who now has 3 Td catches on the season. That pretty much wraps up the game with four minutes to play. 44-29 final as Coleman has a near perfect day. 31 of 34, 308 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT. That's a fantastic game. Carlson, too had a excellent game, perhaps giving him the starting nod for the next game with Graham getting injured. Carlson had 37 carries for 203 yards, 1 TD. With Utah coming up in two weeks, we'll need our defense to start gellin' together. Villapiano leads the team with two sacks, we need more sacks from everyone else on the DL. Our DB's need to stop causing big plays to happen and make some big plays of their own...today was a good start as we outgained 'em 548 to 363 on offense.

Week 5 vs 0-4 BYU - Aztecs by 5 We should do everyone a favor in Vegas...as long as they bet on us. BYU has gotten real bad over the past few seasons, I remember when I had to worry about these guys.. not anymore. Coleman should have another 'decent' game. 1st Quarter We start the game off with the ball and it was quite the mess going down the field as Carlson had 8 carries for 39 yards, but it didn't do a whole lot of good as we had 3 penalties for a total of 25 yards. We did settle for a 48 yard field goal though, thankfully. 3-0, six minutes in. BYU ties it up as the first quarter comes to an end. 3-3. 2nd Quarter Freshman LB Travis Walker comes up with the fumble following a bone crushing hit by Villapiano. Walker returned the fumble 33 yards for the TD! 10-3. The defense comes up big again, this time it's LaFleur who returns the interception 19 yards to move us to the BYU 32 yard line. We capitalize on the TO with a TD. Coleman to Alexander from 13 yards out gives us a 17-3 lead midway through the 2nd quarter. BYU comes back down the field, but have to settle for three as Morin and Stingley come up with nice sacks. 17-6 with 5 minutes to go in the half. We punt it away, but so does BYU as Villapiano records his 3rd sack of the season which made BYU lose 17 yards on the play! We get the ball on the 21 yard line of BYU after a nice return and penalty. 17-13 as Coleman throws his 2nd interception of the year......2nd interception for a TD! Ouuuch. 2 minutes to play in the half as we get another chance to get some points. Coleman makes up for it with an outstanding drive, completing 3 passes for 24 yards and running the ball for 54 yards! He completed the drive with a TD pass to Moss, 24-13 at the half. 3rd Quarter Carlson doesn't start the half off very well, fumbling the ball following a punt which was downed on our 5 yard line. The fumble gave BYU first and goal on our own 5 yard line. A big sack from Filipovic on 3rd and Goal on the 1, allowed us to hold BYU to 3 points while they lost 4 yards on the drive. Wahhoooo! Nice D! 24-16. 4th Quarter Thanks to some nice rushing yards from Carlson, we were able to get into FG Range and knock in a 43 yarder, making it 27-16 to start the 4th quarter. We get another field goal with 6 to play, making it 30-16. That would be all for the rest of the game. We win it 30-16. We didn't pass much, as we didn't need too. I'm sorry to Coleman, who threw for less than 100 yards.... He wasn't really on today, but that's okay as Carlson absolutely took over the game on his own. Coleman - 13 of 19, 87 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT Carlson - 41 carries, 211 yards, 0 TD We're now 3-1 after the heartbreaking loss to UTEP.

Week 6 vs 3-1 Utah - Utah by 10. Utah lost to a good Washington team in week 1, but they've played three solid games in a row since and we've got the Game of the Year right here! This one is for sole first place, TCU is 1-0, we're 2-0. We'll need Coleman to step it up big and show that last week was a fluke and because the fact that we didn't need him at all. Carlson gets the start again as Graham continues his ailing. Will Alexander continue his streak of touchdowns in every game this year? 4 in a row. Utah sports a very athletic offense and a very quick defense. We'll have a tough time, as usual, keeping up, but Coleman should be able to keep us in it 'til the end. 1st Quarter Utah goes practically unstoppable, 89 yards for the early touchdown. 7-0. We come up short on the Utah 15 yard line and we're forced to kick a field goal, making it 7-3, midway through the first. At least we answered back with something. Coleman got off to a great start, but he was finally stopped after going 8 for 8 by throwing an interception in Utah territory... bummer, we were rolling nicely. Utah closes out the 1st quarter with a 2 yard touchdown run as they capitalize on our turnover. 2nd Quarter We get another field goal, this one with 7 minutes to play in the half and from 40 yards out... 14-6 21-6 with three minutes to play in the half as Utah converted four 3rd downs on the drive, all of them from over 5 yards! Ugh! Where's the D!? We get another shot to score, but we come up short at midfield where we turn it over, but it would have been 4th down anyways. 21-6 at the half. 3rd Quarter Midway through the 3rd quarter, Utah converts four more 3rd downs that helped them get three points making it 24-6. 31-6 following a Coleman interception. It wasn't returned all the way, but it only took two plays to get into the endzone. Pathetic showing by our offense and defense today. Ah, well. I don't want to take anything away from a great Utah team. 4th Quarter Coleman finally gets something going, Carlson too running for 40 yards on the drive, but it was Coleman who connected with Moss for the touchdown with 12 minutes remaining in this one. 31-13. With 6:30 remaining, Coleman connects with Shuler this time, in the endzone, making it 31-20. Still hanging by a thread. With under a minute to play, we're able to get into the endzone AGAIN! This time through the legs of Coleman. 31-28 after converting the two points! Well! 35 seconds left, we'll need the onside kick if we want a shot, as we only have one time out left. The final score will be 31-28 after not coming up with the onside kick... drat. Coleman's two interceptions proved to be too much for us to overcome. He did all he could to get us the win, but came up short. Coleman was 37 of 55, 401 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 1 rushing TD. Carlson had 16 carries for 92 yards. We still have two more tough games on our schedule, first being 2-1 TCU and the second one being our season finale against 5-0 Syracuse!

Week 7 @ 2-3 New Mexico - We faves by 3 We should be able to handle the Lobos no problemos. We really need to bounce back into the swing of things with a win, so let's just do it. 1st Quarter New Mexico takes the kick up to their own 45 yard line where they run a screen to open the game... the RB makes the catch, jukes a few defenders and he'll get into the endzone for a quick six!!!! 7-0 as we fall behind already. 10-0 following a NM field goal. The defense hasn't shown up yet for us... 2nd Quarter We move down the field smoothly and get into the endzone as Graham catches one from Coleman for the TD! 10-7 as we start the 2nd quarter. We take the lead with six minutes to play in the half as Coleman gets his 2nd TD pass of the day, this one to Shuler. 14-10. 14-13 as NM comes back with a field goal with less than two minutes to go in the half. We get the ball back at midfield following a nice return. We get into the endzone again, this touchdown pass from Coleman to TE Triplett! 21-13. 21 of 27, 192 yards for Coleman and three touchdown passes. 3rd Quarter New Mexico ties it up by scoring first to start the half, 21-21 as they get the two point conversion as well. On 3rd and Goal from the 7 yard line, we go into the spread formation and run a few quick slants, it pays off as Shuler recieves the pass from Coleman in the endzone for the touchdown! 28-21. 4 TD passes by Coleman, 2 TD catches for Shuler. 4th Quarter Travis Walker comes up with the big interception on New Mexico's next drive, 1st and 10 on their own 25 yard line as we head into the 4th quarter. I accidently punted the ball on the 10 yard line, I misclicked and we punted it into the endzone for a touchback. Oops. New Mexico marches right down the field to our 3 yard line where they miss a field goal to the right! Ouch! 4 minutes to play. Carlson caps off his good game with a 6 yard run with less than a minute to play. 35-21 as the game comes to a finish. He finishes with 25 carries for 136 yards, 1 TD. Coleman finishes the game with some good stats, no picks! 32 of 44, 283 yards, 4 TD. After this game, our offense is ranked 12th in the nation, not too bad at all... Our defense continues to be above average at #37.

Week 8 vs 2-4 UAB - UAB faves by 2 We go back to our non-conference game as we face a bad Dragons team.. Coleman should be able to match last week's game. Carlson/Graham should have good days as well. 1st Quarter Carlson leads the way down the field with 59 yards rushing, but Coleman steals the glory with a 3rd down and goal touchdown pass from 13 yards out making it 7-0 in the early going. 7-3 with 3 minutes to go as UAB kicks in a field goal. 2nd Quarter TE Triplett gets his 5th touchdown catch of the year from Coleman, making it 14-3 midway through the 2nd quarter. Carlson gets us another six points with a 3 yard run. 21-3 with a few minutes left in the half. UAB comes down the field for six points, making it 21-10 as we enter halftime. Coleman not having a bad half, but it's Carlson who's making the news, 17 carries for 95 yards so far. Coleman has 122 yards passing on 15 of 20 passing. 3rd Quarter UAB starts off the half strongly with a touchdown, but they failed to get the 2 points on the extra points making it 21-16. Coleman and Alexander connect yet again in the endzone, the fifth time of the season, making it 28-16 midway through the 3rd quarter. 28-19 as UAB comes back down with a field goal; they also get the ball back as we fumble on the kickoff return. UAB ball on our 16 yard line. UAB gets nothing as they lose three yards(Villapiano sack, his 5th on the season) on three plays and get their field goal blocked! 4th Quarter UAB takes advantage of the horrible half for Carlson, he's only got 20 yards rushing in the 2nd half on 9 carries and a fumble, which UAB turned into six points. 28-26 with over four minutes to play. Carlson makes up for it on the next drive as he makes runs of 28 yards and 22 yards to push us into UAB territory at the 30 yard line with just over 3 minutes to go. We move all the way down to the one yard line where we face a 4th and 1 with exactly a minute to go! Decisions, decisions.. I'm going to pass the ball in hopes of putting this one away. It'll be a I formation play, play action, touchdown, that's my call. 4th and Goal on the 1, 1:00 to go, the quarterback gets the snap, play-action, looking, looking, caught by backup FB Harry Jones(Dillon has bad grades) and he takes it in for the score!! 35-26, this one is over! Coleman had 276 yards passing on 29 completions and 36 pass attempts. He threw 4 touchdown passes on the day, bringing his season total to 23 touchdowns. At this rate, he'll surpass his season high of 35 touchdowns. Here's his career stats to date. Week 9 vs 3-3 Colorado St. - CSU faves by 4 CSU continues to struggle after having good teams more than a few years back. I will enjoy putting up decent offensive numbers(14th) against 'em(40th). Their offense(82nd) will have a tough time against our defense (34th). 1st Quarter 3-0 as we get on the board first with a Turner field goal with only three minutes remaining in this defensive battle in the first quarter. CSU gets into the endzone as time expires in the first quarter, 7-3. The defense gave up a big 44 yard pass play during the drive, from there it was all downhill. 2nd Quarter With 10 minutes remaining, CSU took advantage of our DB's again, this time with a 54 yard touchdown strike through the air. 14-3. Carlson gets into the endzone after catching a pass from Coleman. 11 yard touchdown pass play makes it 14-10 halfway through the 2nd quarter. 14-10 would be the halftime score, Coleman is 10 of 15, 100 yards, 1 TD. Carlson, 18 carries for 88 yards. We'll keep running the ball, as it's successful enough. Not quite as consistent as I'd like though. Hopefully that changes in the 2nd half. 3rd Quarter 17-10 as CSU starts off the 2nd half with a field goal.. a 57 yard run sparked the drive. Turner answers their FG with a 44 yard FG. 17-13. Turner knocks in another FG, this one from 48 yards out. 17-16 as we go beyond midway through the 3rd quarter. 24-16 as CSU goes down the field quite effortlessly for the TD. CSU bites badly on the play action pass and FB Dillon went sprinting down the field for the fly route and he caught it in stride and coasted into the endzone for the 71 yard touchdown catch! We go for the extra point. 24-23 as we near the end of the 3rd quarter. 4th Quarter Carlson gets us into field position with his legs...he's now got 168 yards on the ground. The field goal is good from 43 yards out. 26-24 the score, early on in the 4th. The Rams take the lead back with a field goal, 7 minutes to play, 27-26. We march back down the field to answer the field goal with a touchdown catch from Moss! We go for two and get it! 34-27 with just over three minutes to play in the game! FS Stepehns, who comes in as a nickel back comes up with big interception with over two minutes to play. Our ball at midfield! 34-27 final as Carlson rushed 39 times for 230 yards. Impressive game for him, he's having quite the season so far. Coleman finished 25 of 39, 261 yards, 3 TD.

6-2 SDSU @ 2-6 UNLV - UNLV by 3 The Rebels don't stand a chance against our healthy pass and run attacks.. Our 10th ranked offense should be able to massacre the bad defense(96th) of UNLV. 1st Quarter The only action of the quarter occured with 42 seconds left in it, Coleman put a nice drive together which ended in a 6 yard touchdown pass to Shuler. 7-0. 2nd Quarter 7-3 as UNLV answers our TD with a FG.. 7-6 as the Rebels get another field goal with five minutes to play in the half. Pretty quiet game for both teams so far. 10-6 following a Turner field goal from 36 yards out. 3 minutes to play in the half. Villapiano comes up with his 7th sack on the season as UNLV tries to get things started on the next drive. Hampton followed with his 6th sack on the season on the very next play. This allowed for us to get another shot at a score before half. We take 54 seconds to get down the field 61 yards on five plays. Coleman connected with WR J. Jones for the score! 17-6 at the half. Good games for both Coleman and Carlson so far... stats at the end of the game when they're outstanding! 3rd Quarter Lamar Carlson makes it 24-6 on the opening drive with a 3 yard touchdown run. After gaining 65 yards on the ground through the legs of Carlson, we went to the air from the 1 yard line since Carlson had to come out for a breather, the backup RB Bennett made the catch in the endzone for another TD for Coleman, his 3rd on the day. 31-6 nearing the end of the 3rd quarter. 4th Quarter UNLV dodges a safety thanks to an offsides penalty. They don't do anything anyways as they fumble it back to us later on in the drive. 34-6 through the leg of Turner. Hampton ties Villapiano for the team leader in sacks with 7. That'll be the final score as FS Joe Baker comes up with two interceptions in the 4th quarter. Carlson finishes with 38 carries for 213 yards and a TD, that's his fourth 200 yard performance of the season! If he wasn't caught up in a controversy, he could be in the top 5 in the nation in rushing yards with 1302+ yards, but this is good enough for me. Instead he's #14 in the country. Coleman finished 26 of 34 with 286 yards, 3 TD. He hasn't thrown a pick in a while either! Last four games: 14 TD's, 0 INT's. Impressive. 29 TD, 5 INT on the season. So far this is his best season as an Aztec. We're now 7-2 as we go into a critical game against TCU. If we win this one and Utah gets upset in one of their final games we would tie for first as long as we win out too. That going to happen? Probably not.

Week 12 -- 7-2 SDSU @ 7-1 TCU - TCU favorites of 11 TCU is the favorite for the game, but I don't see how by that much. This is going to be a great game, very balanced, but we've got a great Coach in me to help us out some. Coleman looks to continue his good fortunes of no INT's in the last four games along with Carlson's 1300 yard season. He looks to get his third straight game of 200+ yards. In order to do all this, we'll need to tame the #1 defense in the country in the Horned Frogs! They're tough, but tough enough? Let's find out. 1st Quarter The first few drives are a battle of field position, which we win as we push TCU all the way back to the 6 yard line where they punt it back to midfield, where we get to start with 8 minutes to play in the first quarter. Our first real chance to get some points. Carlson continues to run real hard, gaining 73 yards so far on just seven carries. But Coleman did the work to get us in the endzone, 7-0 as Moss catches the TD pass from our All American QB. The rest of the quarter goes scoreless, it will be TCU ball on their own 13 yard line as we start the 2nd quarter. 2nd Quarter Three and out forces TCU to punt it, FS Joe Baker recieves the punt and returns it all the way down to the Frogs 24 yard line! 1st and 10 for our offense. George Moss gets his 2nd touchdown reception of the day as we take a 14-0 lead. TCU answers our TD with a FG. A 57 yard pass play allowed them to get into the position to score, a screen play. 14-3 midway through the 2nd quarter. Coleman continues his stellar game with his third TD pass, this one to Triplett on Fourth and Goal on the two yard line. 21-3, with a few minutes to go in the half. TCU gets down the field quickly and get six points with a minute to play in the half still. 21-10. That will be the halftime score. Carlson finishes the half with 16 carries for 83 yards. Not so hot since his 7 carry, 73 yard start. Coleman finishes the half quite efficiently, 20 of 26 for 128 yards, 3 TD. For the second half, we'll run the ball a little more in hopes of running the time out quickly. 21-10, our ball to start the 2nd half. 3rd Quarter Half way through the 3rd quarter, TCU blocks our punt and they need one play to get into the endzone, a 34 yard touchdown pass. 21-18 following the 2 point conversion. The rest of the third quarter goes down quietly, but to start the 4th quarter we face a crucial 3rd and 8 near mid field. 4th Quarter Moss catches the ball from Coleman and gets the eight yards we needed to continue the drive. We were able to get another first down and move into the 17 yard line where we attempted a 35 yard field goal, Turner came up short. He's having an awful season after having a great one last year... He was 30 of 33 last season, now he's a measly 13 of 19. Did the patch cause this? Stays 21-18 with 10 minutes to go in the game. Stingley comes up with a big interception on 3rd and 15 for TCU. 1st and 10 at the TCU 41 yard line. Turner nails the 39 yard field goal, making it 24-18 midway through the final quarter. We get the ball back with 5:30 on the clock near midfield following a TCU punt. We have to punt after coming up short on 3rd and 2 as Carlson gets stuffed on the pitch out. TCU marches right down the field and we're at the 16 yard line with 1:06 to go. It's 3rd and 10 for TCU. Crucial plays coming up! 11 yard pass play, gives the Frogs first and goal. Rut-roh! Two unsuccessful plays later that gained them two yards, it is 3rd and Goal on our 3 yard line with 42 seconds to go. We run a safety blitz and it pays off as SS Stingley comes up with a HUUUUGE sack! 7 yard loss! Could be the final play of the game coming right up. 4th and Goal on the 10 yard line with 30 seconds remaining on the clock. 4th and Goal - Oooh no! They get the touchdown! 25-24 as TCu takes the lead with 20 seconds to go in the ball game. ****! A huge return, 38 yards, that brings us to the 48 yard line with 20 seconds to go. We have two timeouts as we were making sure we'd have time in case we needed the time... turns out we do. Three pass plays, three incompletions as the Horned Frogs come up with a huge win at home. Oooouuuuch! That sucks bad! TCU and Utah will face off next week for the conference championship game! That should be a good one too. We move to 7-3 as we come up short against TCU. Carlson finished with 39 carries for 180 yards. Coleman was 25-37, 163 yards, 3 TD. Bummer of a game for us as we were standing pretty tall at that point. Turner missed two field goals, 1 for 3 on the day, missing from 35 and 50. Award Finalists Named...coming up

Week 13 vs 4-6 Air Force - We're favorites by 3 Should be a relatively easy game for us. We'll bounce back strongly following a huge loss last week. 1st Quarter 3-0 as AF gets on the board with a 52 yard field goal. We answer back quickly as Coleman's first pass is a big one, Moss broke a few tackles and busted through for six points. A 43 yard touchdown pass and catch. 7-3. 10-3 as we move down the field on AF. Nearing the end of the first quarter. 2nd Quarter Moss catches his second touchdown of the game, this one from 16 yards out! 17-3. Alexander catches the next touchdown pass from Coleman. 24-3 as we go into halftime. 3rd Quarter Moss again! His third touchdown catch of the game, this one from 10 yards out. 31-3 as we are now blowing this weak Air Force team out of the ... air? 4th quarter Air Force gets their 100th yard of the game as we start the 4th quarter. *clap clap* The final score would be 31-3 as we mutilate a bad Air Force team. We could've made it worse, but we were nice. Coleman finished 16 of 27, 168 yards, 4 TD. Carlson 43 carries, 159 yards Graham 11 carries, 58 yards Utah gets beat by TCU as the Horned Frogs celebrate an undefeated conference season. 33-17 the final score in that game was.

Week 15 vs 9-2 #21 Syracuse - 'Cuse by 20 I really picked a bad time to try and pick on a Big East team. The Syracuse team having a great year, I knew they were good, but this good? Yikes. We'll need a great game from Coleman, which is to be expected at this rate... Coleman on the season so far: 2932 yards, 36 TD, 5 INT, 71% COMP Moss has 9 touchdown catches on the year, Triplett, Shuler and Alexander each have six TDs. Good season to be a receiver. We'll also need good games from DE's Villapiano and Hampton, they both have 8 sacks on the season. The 'Cuse have a great defensive line that will likely cause lots of problems for our running game, but Coleman may be okay with the average DB's. Offensively, the 'Cuse are very well rounded, they've got good players at each position. This will be a tough game for us. 1st Quarter We get on the board first thanks to Turner's leg. It was the opening drive of the game, Carlson was able to get something going, 6 carries for 44 yards so far. Syracuse answers our field goal with a touchdown. 7-3 midway through the 1st. Coleman gets us into the endzone as we take the lead on the next drive. Three posessions in the game so far and three scores for both teams. 10-7 as Coleman hits Moss for his 10th TD of the season. 2nd Quarter The Orangemen tie it up with a field goal as we start off the 2nd quarter. 10-10. Syracuse takes the lead with a field goal, 13-10 with ten minutes to play in the half. 15-10 as we get safetied, thanks to a 1st down called back due to a holding penalty. Three minutes to play in the half. We get 1:33 to work with from our 20 yard line following a punt. 16-15 as we get a 11 yard touchdown pass to you know who! Moss with his 11th TD of the season. We go for two but don't get it. Halftime it is. 3rd Quarter LB Filipovic comes up with an interception after a 3rd and 19 first down conversion for the 'Cuse. Filipovic with a nice pick to give us the ball back. 19-15, following the 'Cuse turnover. Seven to play in the 3rd. 19-18 as Syracuse answers back with a field goal of their own. 4th Quarter We start the fourth quarter with the ball following a punt into the endzone. George Moss, once again! Touchdown Aztecs! Coleman to Moss from 6 yards out. 26-18, 11 minutes to play in the game. Carlson paved the way for us on that drive, he's now nearing on 200 yards on the season. If he can get some more yards, he'll have an easy shot at 2000 yards on the season, including the bowl game, that is. With six minutes to play, Syracuse gets the ball back on their own 18 yard line. This will need to be a big stop for us. Aagh. 67 yard touchdown play for the Orangemen, 26-24 pending the 2 point conversion. 2:50 left in the game. The two point attempt is unsuccessful, so we still have a 2 point lead, with the ball at our own 38 yard line following the kickoff. CARLSON fumbles it in our territory on the second play of the drive...I should have known that was coming, oh but what could I have done.. I'd still run the ball. 26-24, 2 minutes remaining, Cuse ball on the 45 yard line. Johnnnnyyy Hamptonnnn gets his 9th sack of the season, it was 2nd and 9 and he crushed the QB for a 9 yard loss. 3rd and 18 coming up. They get six yards on the next play.... Huge play coming up.... 34 yard pass gain......! Nooo! 1st and Goal, minute to go... 27-26, 30 second to go for us at our own 28 yard line.... They nailed an easy field goal. 33-26 final score as Coleman throws his first interception in six games, which was returned for a touchdown as time was expired... Jerks. 66 yard interception returned for the touchdown. We finish 8-4.

Bowl Bound We are going to the California Bowl to face 9-2 New Mexico State. We're favored by 4 points this game. It should be a fun one, but I do believe we're undefeated against these guys in two tries. So, we shouldn't have too much of a hard time against them.

8-4 SDSU vs 9-2 NMSU - Aztecs by 4 1st Quarter We get on the board first with a nice drive, but it ended only in three points. 39 yard field goal for Turner. 3-0 10-0 following a NMSU punt that was returned to their 12 yard line. It took us two plays to get into the endzone. 10-0 as Coleman hits Shuler in the endzone. 10-7 after on 3rd down and 10 NMSU takes a shot going deep and it pays of as they go 76 yards for the touchdown. Ouch. Carlson answers their touchdown with a 22 yard run for a TD! 17-7, still a few minute to play in the first quarter. 2nd Quarter 20-7 after we get on the board early on in the 2nd quarter. That would be the only scoring for the whole second quarter. Carlson proving to be one of the best backs in the country, he's got 111 yards on 19 carries so far. 3rd Quarter 20-14 as NMSU scores with just two minutes to go in the 3rd quarter on a 74 yard touchdown pass play! Ouch again. Our DB's get burnt again on this one, on third down and 10, no less. 4th Quarter Carlson gets his second rushing touchdown of the game as we answer back with a TD of our own. 28-14 after the 2 point conversion. 10 minutes to play. 28-17 is the final score as NMSU gets a field goal with a few minutes to play in the game. We finish the season 9-4. Two great offensive performances for our team. I'll touch up on the stats in the next few posts. Carlson had 188 yards today to push him over 2000 yards on the season.

Season Stats - View Attachment(word doc) for stats Some pretty impressive stats for Coleman and Carlson. Here are Coleman's career stats at San Diego State U. I will miss his stats a lot, but it looks like, Junior(will be senior) Micah Lane looks to be good enough to take over for Coleman. Carlson will look to have a monster season next year, as I have no doubt that he should start, unless of course we get a big player in the recruiting session.

Season Performance following a 9-4 Season Team Performance: C Talent: D Recruiting: D Board Expectations: B Prestige: C Overall: C I think they were a bit harsh on my grades, but ah well. I can live with it. Our prestige stayed the same at 47.. Job Offers Now that the Coleman Era is over, do I move on??? We're reallll talented for next year, at least I think so. We'll get to use our transfers and our sophomores will improve as well. I'm a bit iffy to move out now, so we'll see. No offers. Ouch. I'm hurt. Asst Coaches We lose our DC due to a bigger contract offer... so we'll be looking for a new one. We sign a decent DC.

Transfers Great News, WR George Green(5/7) has decided to transfer to San Diego State! This will take a lot of pressure off our recruiting season and gets us a more proven guy to boot. The cost on our recruiting budget was the initial $500 plus an extra $4,000. So, our weekly budget now sits at $44,500. Still, that is a small price to pay for a player with the upside of Green. With him, he'll be a great #2 guy next to last year's WR transfer, Barber. Great News, OT Ed Adams has decided to transfer to San Diego State! This will take a lot of pressure off our recruiting season and gets us a more proven guy to boot. The cost on our recruiting budget was the initial $500 plus an extra $4,000. So, our weekly budget now sits at $34,500. Still, that is a small price to pay for a player with the upside of Adams. Great News, OG Jim Hulsey has decided to transfer to San Diego State! This will take a lot of pressure off our recruiting season and gets us a more proven guy to boot. The cost on our recruiting budget was the initial $500 plus an extra $4,000. So, our weekly budget now sits at $40,000. Still, that is a small price to pay for a player with the upside of Hulsey. We get two more transfers, both offensive linemen. This will help tremendously next season.

Recruiting - Week 1 Our recruiting interest is real high this year. We've got fifteen 4 star players interested in coming to us(Interest 8-10). In previous seasons, we'd be lucky to hit a 4 star player with six interest. Here we go! Scouting week. Week 2 We start to hit some guys wit scholarships and recruiting efforts. There are still plenty of players we hold off on until we know more about 'em. Week 3 Nothing interesting happens this week. We make a few more recruiting pitches and get rid of a few due to lost interest. Week 4 Players committing to San Diego State OT Lonnie Cook Not a bad signing. Cook will probably be a starter in two seasons. Week 5 Players committing to San Diego State CB Lethon Stevens WR Rushen Holland We get some much needed help at CB, Holland will be a good third WR down the road. Week 6 Players committing to San Diego State RB Todd Smith QB Randy Promuto OLB Billy Armstrong All three of these guys are four star players! It looks like we will finally have a RB that can dominate in this conference. Promuto will probrably be more talented than Coleman, but will he be able to start as a true freshman and put up numbers like Cecil?
