"The League:" Season Five thread

Recommended Posts

All right, folks, just finished running matches.

Expect a long show tonight--I'm at 36 pages before adding commentary, changes to the standard entrances, and formatting. Only one match went under 7 minutes, and two went for 35+ minutes. Four A/A* matches on the night, with nothing lower than a D.

We even have a medical DQ in this week's show.

I will try to have show ready at 8 Eastern; depends on how much writer's block my mind decides to have.

Can't wait. :D

If you don't miund me asking what exactly is this? Seems really cool

In simple terms, this takes the Wrestling Spirit II game, characters that people create in the discussion thread, and simulates matches as if they were real (unlike real-life pro wrestling). It's set up in seasons like most other pro sports, and the characters earn training cash based on their performance to increase their stats in the hopes of winning enough matches to be crowned League Champion.

<hr>

For you regulars, show incoming in the next few minutes. All I have to go is copy/paste the show summary and I'll be done for the week--and ahead of schedule for once!

Season Five, Week Eleven

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

February 21, 2012

THE LEAGUE: SEASON FIVE, WEEK ELEVEN

The requisite pyro erupts inside the arena, as a rowdy Pittsburgh crowd jumps to their feet. Signs are scattered throughout the audience, with a fair number being derogatory towards The Phoenix for his choice in NFL franchises. After a couple of wide shots of the crowd, we cut to ringside, and a two-person announce team.

Bob Sinclair: Good evening, everyone, and welcome to week eleven of The League! I am Bob Sinclair, here at ringside with Tori Montgomery. Frankie Garnett will be joining us shortly. We're starting to get to the part of the season where every match is important, especially with the rule change this season regarding the playoffs.

Tori Montgomery: Both races for the divisional leads are close with seven matches to go; even a one-match lead can be enough difference to separate those fighting for the League Championship from those fighting for the consolation prize!

Bob Sinclair: Folks, we've got an action-packed show for you, so let's get to the ring and Amelia Williams to get us underway!

OMEGA DIVISION: Tarik Nolan (4-6, 10%) vs. Sean (5-5, 15%)

"Regulate" hits the speakers, immediately drawing the ire of the crowd as a large figure stands in the entryway, backlit by a clear spotlight. Pyro explodes on the stage, causing the light to shut off as the figure finally emerges onto the stage proper. Laughing at the boos hurled in his direction, he takes his time walking to the ring and subsequently entering it for his next match.

Amelia Williams: Our first match of the night is an Omega Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Shreveport, Louisiana, weighing 292 pounds...Tarik Nolan!

Tori Montgomery: Tarik needs a few wins and badly; I do not foresee a losing record making the playoffs.

Bob Sinclair: Nolan's been known to cave under pressure; we'll see if tonight he changes that for at least one week.

Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart" hits the arena speakers as a spotlight shines down on the top of the ramp. Emerging from the back, the former League Champion walks out as he throws a hand into the air, causing pyro to erupt from behind him in a manner of paparazzi photographing him. With a smirk, he heads to the ring, the spotlight remaining on him the whole time.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, now residing in Los Angeles, California, weighing 230 pounds..."Hollywood" Sean!

Bob Sinclair: The former champ has seemed to struggle a bit this season with the two-division format, though he's not quite out of the hunt yet.

Tori Montgomery: A win here would put him right in the thick of things and be a huge momentum booster for him, that's for sure.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of eight minutes and ten seconds, Tarik Nolan!

Bob Sinclair: A huge win for Nolan, who may have gotten a second lease on his season's life!

Tori Montgomery: This puts both men at 5-6 on the season; right now they'd be on the fringes of the playoffs. It's not over for either man yet, but they are going to need to help themselves and soon.

ALPHA DIVISION CAGE MATCH: Sebastian Moore (2-8, 16%) vs. Jack Lightning (4-6, 16%)

It is to Muse's "Assassin" that he emerges, an arrogant smirk crossing his face as he soaks in the jeers of the crowd. Looking up at the spotlight for a moment, his smirk seems to get even bigger as he walks down the ramp, ignoring the catcalls of the crowd as he ascends the steps, wipes his feet on the top step, and steps into the cage, looking more at ease than the casual fan may think.

Amelia Williams: This is an Alpha Division match, to be held inside the steel cage! The only way to win is to escape the cage! Introducing first, from Manchester, England, weighing 237 pounds...Sebastian Moore!

Bob Sinclair: This has not been a good season for Moore.

Tori Montgomery: Indeed. A loss tonight eliminates any chance he has of having a winning season.

Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" hits the speakers as the first Canadian to enter The League emerges from the back, looking surprisingly at ease as he steps onto the ring apron and enters the cage. Climbing onto the turnbuckles, he raises an arm in the air and drinks in the cheers of the crowd before dropping back to the mat and preparing for his match.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from London, Ontario, weighing 233 pounds...Jack Lightning!

Bob Sinclair: Lightning still has a chance to salvage his season; a win here puts him on the edge of the playoff picture.

Tori Montgomery: And given the names in the Alpha Division, just being on the edge would be a huge help; it's not unknown to steal a playoff spot in the waning moments of a season, after all!

Could this be the end?

He is getting closer!

He gets caught before he was halfway!

Bob Sinclair: Lightning apparently didn't catch all of that finisher that he wanted, as Moore was able to recover quickly.

Bob Sinclair: That was one hellacious impact!

Tori Montgomery: Lightning must have had the wind knocked out of him, and it was enough for Moore to capitalize. Moore notches his third win of the season!

ALPHA DIVISION: Thor Hammerskald (5-5, 15%) vs. Pizza Mask III (4-6, 19%)

Amon Amarth's "Death in Fire" hits the speakers, to a decent ovation he emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them. Behind him, his manager/League color commentator can be see giving him encouragement as the Viking enters the confines of the squared circle.

Amelia Williams: This is an Alpha Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, being accompanied to the ring by Frankie Garnett, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds...Thor Hammerskald!

Bob Sinclair: The undercurrent of this match is one I'll be interested in, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: Given the recent bad blood between Frankie and PM3, I'll be real interested to see if the youngster can keep focused on the task at hand.

The theme to Samurai Pizza Cats plays as a van painted red with the words "Pizza Wagon" on the side comes down to ringside. Emerging from the van, the former backyard wrestler is seen in his trademark Pizza Hut uniform and new tights that resemble a cheese pizza on the left side, and a shot of PM3 bashing the Noid in the face with a chair. Reaching into the van to pull out a Pain Pizza, he hands it off to one lucky fan at ringside before hopping over the top rope and entering the ring to the cheers of the fans in attendance.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Your Friendly Neighborhood Pizzeria, weighing 199 pounds...Pizza Mask III!

Tori Montgomery: I can barely hear Frankie in the corner nearest us, it sounded like he just told Thor to "break him."

Bob Sinclair: Pizza Mask pulls out the win, much to the chagrin of Frankie Garnett!

Tori Montgomery: After that impact, though, I have to be worried a bit for PM3. That's a concussion and brain damage waiting to happen....

ALPHA DIVISION: The Phoenix (7-3, 13%) vs. Eidenhoek Gaiaspade (5-5, 21%)

Disturbed's "Indestructible" hits the arena as one of last season's rookies emerges from the back, looking surprisingly at ease despite the hard beat of the song. Jumping onto the apron from the floor, he steps between the ropes and calmly waits for the bell to get the match underway.

Amelia Williams: Our next contest is scheduled for one fall in the Alpha Division! Introducing first, from the Island of Tria, weighing 205 pounds...Eidenhoek Gaiaspade!

Bob Sinclair: Gaius has improved since last season, actually being in contention this late in the season.

Frankie Garnett: And tonight he'll go above .500 given the choke artist he's facing.

Tori Montgomery: Shouldn't you be backstage with Thor?

Frankie Garnett: Someone has to pick up your slack, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: ....

Within Temptation's "Stand My Ground" hits the arena speakers as a League Original emerges from the back, through a wall of flame pyro. Standing at the top of the ramp, he is immediately greeted by a chorus of boos as he stands in front of this Pittsburgh crowd wearing a Ray Lewis jersey...and the booing intensifies a moment later as he does Lewis' trademark pre-game ritual dance. With that out of the way he sprints to the ring, sliding in under the bottom rope, and popping up to his feet ready to go to war once again. At ringside, Tori drops her headset to the table and walks towards his corner, taking the spot his estranged wife should be manning as he nods in recognition to her.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, joined at ringside by Tori Montgomery, from the home of the AFC North champion Baltimore Ravens, weighing 337 pounds, he is one-half of the Tag Team Turmoil champions...this is The Phoenix!

Bob Sinclair: Phoenix certainly not endearing himself to this Pittsburgh crowd; he might be lucky to leave this city tonight in one piece with the way this crowd is getting on him!

Frankie Garnett: Not like it's be a great loss or anything. Hell, I hear Big Smack Scott might be looking for work soon.

OMEGA DIVISION: Master Imoka (7-3, 13%) vs. Super Century (7-3, 22%)

"You're the Best" blasts from the arena speakers as The League's lone Samoan emerges from the back, staring a hole through the ring as if by doing so, he can change it to his preferred medium of a martial arts mat. As he gets to ringside, he quickly lashes out and kicks the top half of the steel steps off the bottom half, snarling as he slides into the ring and stands motionless, waiting for the bell to sound.

Amelia Williams: This is an Omega Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the Isle of Samoa, weighing 214 pounds...Master Imoka!

Frankie Garnett: Why are we concerned about that so early, Bob? Get back to me when it's like that with two weeks to go; that will be interesting!

Tori Montgomery: Nonetheless, Imoka has a chance to cause even a little separation here with a win tonight.

Without warning, all of the lights go off in the arena, casting everything into pitch blackness. A few seconds pass before a spotlight shines on one of the turnbuckles, revealing no one there. This is repeated with all four corners, each revealing no one there. Finally, one last spotlight shines down onto the middle of the ring, which reveals the caped form of The League's resident superhero, who stands with arms folded and staring intently into the audience.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from the Halls of Justice, weighing 205 pounds...Super Century!

Bob Sinclair: The surefire surprise of the season, Century has been the classic overachiever this season, finding himself embroiled in the middle of the race for the Omega Division lead!

Frankie Garnett: I keep telling you, luck can only take you so far. Hero-boy here is about to find out the hard way.

Tori Montgomery: And we still have half the card yet to go!

ALPHA DIVISION: Diamond (7-3, 18%) vs. Scott Stevens (4-6, 17%)

"Don't Cha" hits the arena to a mixed reaction as The League's lone female member emerges from backstage. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, hoisting a title belt in the air, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, hands thrown in the air as the soaks in the crowd reaction while her manager stands outside, also applauding her client.

Amelia Williams: This is an Alpha Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, accompanied to the ring by Jayde, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds...Diamond!

Bob Sinclair: Diamond enters tonight as the Alpha Division leader due to tie-breaker, and with Phoenix's win earlier tonight, she needs to do the same to maintain that position.

Tori Montgomery: She's not lacking for motivation tonight, given her opponent.

Frankie Garnett: Or rather, what her opponent does to her in—

Bob Sinclair: Will you stop?!

The lights in the arena go pitch black, as red lasers and spotlights light up the area. The video screen lights up and flashes across the screen, "Nothing survives my sting!" The crowd starts booing as Dave Mustaine's voice echoes throughout the arena, "I am the Scorpion, whoa!" The jeering intensifies as a mash-up of "I Stand Alone" and "Amazing" hits the speakers, drawing out the reigning Legacy Pro Wrestling champion, complete with belt around the waist. Walking down the aisle, he talks trash the entire way while pointing at the LPW title around his waist. As he finally gets to the ring, he climbs the nearest turnbuckle and stares down his opponent, an icy glare and the throat slash gesture his only actions as he drops to the mat.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, from Houston, Texas, weighing 256 pounds...Her Goddess Selket's favorite Arachnid, The King of Sting, The Venomous One and Only, and the reigning Legacy Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Champion... he is "The Scorpion" Scott Stevens!

Before Amelia can leave the ring, Stevens intercepts her and whispers something in her ear. Amelia looks at Stevens strangely, but Scorpion simply gestures to the mic with a deepening scowl on his face. The nervousness is clear in Amelia's voice as she starts to speak again.

Amelia Williams: And the only man to pin both the former tag team champions of the world, Diamond and Maxx Skabb in a span of five minutes...he is "The Scorpion" Scott Stevens!

Tori Montgomery: Was that totally necessary?

Frankie Garnett: Yes, Tori. Yes it was.

Bob Sinclair: Stevens trying to get into Diamond's head before the match even starts....

Stevens grins smugly, flipping Diamond a one-fingered salute before crotch-chopping in her direction. Diamond simply smirks while Jayde shouts something from ringside that our censors mercifully mute out as the bell rings to get the match underway!

The fans boo, unhappy after a dull match.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of three minutes and forty seconds, Diamond!

Tori Montgomery: Ha! Stevens' bravado just came back to bite him! Diamond takes care of business and in a hurry!

Frankie Garnett: Bravado? I'll have you know that Scorpion is wrestling with a 103-degree fever!

Bob Sinclair: Uh, no, Frankie. League doctors wouldn't clear him if he was.

Tori Montgomery: Just admit it, Frankie. Your golden boy is starting to go belly-up. Methinks the Scorpion has no venom left at all, especially with—

Tori's comment gets interrupted by Stevens coming over to the announce table, having heard Tori's statement. Tori stops talking as Jayde tries to get out of the way, but Stevens shoves the manager to the side and grabs a bottle of water from Frankie's position at the desk. The camera picks up Stevens' voice.

Scott Stevens: Phoenix's ass belongs to me! Don't you forget that, skank!

In the next moment, Stevens launches the water into Tori's face, causing her to stagger back into her chair. Smirking, Scorpion turns to leave, stopping briefly to grab a sign a kid in the front row was holding. The sign reads, quite simply, "Where's Our Flogg Splash?" Stevens mouths the words "Welcome Back" to the camera before the shot cuts back to the ringside announce table.

Bob Sinclair: Tori, you all right?

Tori Montgomery: ...

Frankie Garnett: Look at her, Bob. She's speechless! That's the best she's been all night!

Tori Montgomery: ...Stevens is going to get it. Just wait and see.

OMEGA DIVISION: Rannulf von Krüshengberg (2-8, 9%) vs. Benjamin T. Stanton, Jr. (4-6, 29%)

The opening to Rammstein's "Mein Teil" hits the speakers as the largest member of The League emerges, causing everyone with something that could even remotely be considered food to get away from the entranceway as quickly as possible for fear of losing their food...and at least a body part or two.

Amelia Williams: This Omega Division bout is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from der Schwarzwald, Deutschland, weighing 421 pounds..."Der Panzer" Rannulf von Krüshengberg!

Bob Sinclair: To say that Rannulf has been a massive disappointment this season would be an understatement.

Frankie Garnett: Hey, you made a Rannulf is fat joke!

Bob Sinclair: I did no such thing!

Tori Montgomery: ....

"Here Comes the Money" hits the speakers, as one of this season's rookies emerges from the back, with a beautiful woman hanging off his left arm. He pays no attention to the jeering fans, his attitude simply screaming "I'm better than you."

Amelia Williams: His opponent, accompanied to the ring by Missy Callistra, from Providence, Rhode Island, weighing 224 pounds...Benjamin T. Stanton, Jr.!

Bob Sinclair: Stanton has been surprising as of late, as he's been on a bit of a roll in the last few weeks.

Tori Montgomery: Another win could put him right in that gray area at the edge of the playoff contender list.

Frankie Garnett: No chance. This scrub? HA!

Amelia Williams: This is an Omega Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Blackpool, England, weighing 222 pounds...Ian Carlisle!

Bob Sinclair: While not quite to the level of his partner at the recent 3T event, Carlisle has put together a few surprising wins this season.

Tori Montgomery: He's currently leading the pack for the Entertainer of the Season award, and could easily walk away with the prize at season's end with the matches he's been having.

Frankie Garnett: Which mean nothing if he LOSES most of them!

The opening riffs of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" hits the speakers, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as last season's champion emerges from the stage, bathed in a blue light shining beneath him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, belt slung over his right shoulder and his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds, he is the reigning and defending League Champion...Robbie Maynard!

Bob Sinclair: Maynard is also among the group of people deadlocked for the Omega Division lead, and a win here would tie him with Imoka atop the division.

Frankie Garnett: I'm not betting against the guy.

Tori Montgomery: I thought you didn’t like Maynard.

Frankie Garnett: See, Tori, that was before he started #winning!

Tori Montgomery: ...Did you just seriously use a hash tag in your speech?

Frankie Garnett: Damn right I did!

Frankie Garnett: Blah, blah, blah. Can we get on with it? I am starting to get hungry over here....

ALPHA DIVISION: Maxx Skabb (6-4, 22%) vs. Nuclear Templeton (6-4, 21%)

Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" hits the speakers, bringing the crowd to their feet in ovation as one of the League's more recognizable faces emerges from backstage and across the green-tinted stage. As he hits the end of the entrance ramp, he throws his arms into the air, sending a pair of mushroom clouds into the air from the stage as he makes his way to the ring and through the ropes, title belt slung over his left shoulder.

Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" blares throughout the arena as spotlights begin to pan over the audience, as if looking for someone. A dim red light shines on the entryway, revealing a hulking figure making his way to ringside, with two more men hiding just at the fringes of the spotlight, their eyes never leaving the form of the big man. As the refrain hits, the spotlights immediately focus on him as white strobe lights flash on the entrance stage. He slides under the bottom rope, his orange jumpsuit a stark contrast to most of the clothing in the audience as the song fades into silence.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds...Maxx Skabb!

Frankie Garnett: Man's still crazier than a loon.

Frankie's comments do not go unanswered, though. As if he had heard them, Skabb comes rushing over to the announce table, nearly jumping over it as Frankie scampers into the crowd. The camera can barely hear Maxx muttering, as if talking to himself.

Maxx Skabb:/u] The eyes...everywhere...

Officials come out of the back, escorting Skabb back to the locker room as Frankie finally makes a return to the announce table.

Bob Sinclair: She's got you there, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Grrr....

OMEGA DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH: Johnny Triumph (7-3, 29%) vs. Dante Lorenzo (4-6, 21%)

Three Days Grace's "Riot" hits the speakers to a chorus of jeers as the first Italian-born member of The League emerges from the back, ignoring the crowd in the arena as he mentally prepares for his upcoming match. Reaching the ring, he climbs up the steps and enters between the ropes, his face never losing a look of confident indifference.

Amelia Williams: Our main event is a First Blood match in the Omega Division! Introducing first, from Florence, Italy, weighing 291 pounds...Dante Lorenzo!

Bob Sinclair: Folks, we should point out that while this is technically a First Blood match, the referee does have the ability to stop the match if he feels that one of the wrestlers' well-being is in danger. It's happened before.

Frankie Garnett: And it's bull, if you want my opinion. We came to see blood!

Tori Montgomery: And Imoka bleeding wasn't enough?

Frankie Garnett: ...no....

A remixed version of "Ecstasy of Gold" hits the speakers, which is nearly drowned out in jeers as he emerges from the entryway. Instead of taking the steps closest to him, he walks around to the opposite side of the ring, drawing in more jeers as he finally climbs the steps and enters the ring.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds...Johnny Triumph!

Frankie Garnett: Triumph looks especially determined tonight!

Bob Sinclair: With a shot at the division lead at stake, there's no question that—

Frankie Garnett: No, no, Bob. He looks like a shark who has already smelled blood in the water!

Tori Montgomery: Talk about a poor choice of analogies....

Wow. Two quick submission losses back to back. I'm speechless. Scorpion is sucking this season for some reason.

Has Stevens even had a positive win/loss record any season yet? Seems harsh to criticize his performance this season when he's this bad consistently. :p

Hell of a main event we just had there though... and this week I think we get one of the biggest combined popularities for a regular season match we've ever had. Awesome. :)

How are the playoffs working?

The Alpha and Omega Division Champions will face off in a single 2/3 Falls match to determine this season's League Champion. (If the season ended right now, that would be Diamond and Johnny Triumph.)

The second through fifth-place finishers in each division will be entered into an 8-man tournament to determine the overall #3 to #10 spots. The opening round pairings would run as follows, with current standings as reference:

Alpha #2 (The Phoenix) vs. Omega #5 (Benjamin T. Stanton, Jr.)

Alpha #3 (Maxx Skabb) vs. Omega #4 (Super Century)

Alpha #4 (Nuclear Templeton) vs. Omega #3 (Master Imoka)

Alpha #5 (Pizza Mask III) vs. Omega #2 (Robbie Maynard)

This tournament would be single-elimination, with the four participants getting knocked out in the opening round receiving 1 Spirit point each, and their final position determined by the usual method (record, then tiebreakers).

The winner of the consolation match (between the two people eliminated in the semifinals) gets 4 Spirit points; the loser of that match gets 3. The winner of the tournament gets 6 Spirit points, the runner-up 5.

The final match of the evening would be the League Championship match. The winner gets 10 Spirit points and the title of League Champion; the runner-up gets only 8 Spirit points.

Show's been run. Actually a lot shorter this week, with only a pair of matches going over 10 minutes. Giving myself a few minute break and then heading in for commentary stuffs.

Not that important. Maxx still sucks.

Sorry to tease everyone with a glimpse of the Splash, and then not follow up, but it's not been the best of weeks for me. Difficult to write Flogg stuff when you don't feel all that funny. Hopefully he'll be back soon, at least for me. :p
