NOTBPW: The Maple Leaf Forever [8RoW]

Recommended Posts

Jeremy has A overness across Canada. Why would I put him in an angle that rated him on anything else?

My personal opinion is that if a worker is doing a lot of talking in an angle, then they should be rated on microphone/entertainment. Not taking anything away from this diary, of course as it's still good read but that's just how I feel.

Kristabel Plum and ??? vs. Sally Anne Christianson and ???

Sally Anne is still young and has time to improve but at the moment, Plum is the better talent.

Harrison Hash vs. Jared Johnson

Hash is higher up the card.

??? vs. Lauren Easter

She's the champion, so you will probably be keeping her looking strong.

Erik Strong vs. Julian Watson

Seeing as how Strong & Hash are facing The Aces for the titles, giving each team one singles victory each is a good way to have them both go in with a good amount of momentum.

The Outsiders vs. The Fighting Irish

The two biggest heels on the roster are not going to lose to The Fighting Irish. I have no doubts about this one.

Duane Stone vs. Owen Love

Tough one but I'm going to give this one to Owen Love. Duane is one of the top guys on the roster but he doesn't seem to be doing that much (storyline wise) at the moment and have a feeling that you have plans to split the Can-Am Blondes some time after the cup and this could lay the ground work for that.

Sean McFly vs. The Natural

Keeps McFly looking strong going into his match with Bloodstone.

NOTBPW Championship Wrestling

Wednesday, Week 4, January 2013

Victoria Royal Athletic Park, Victoria, BC

8,594 in attendance

As the theme sequence transitions to the live shot from the arena, we see Sean McFly in the ring.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/SeanMcFly.jpg

"First things first. I don't do excuses. Never have. When you have the title, there's a target painted on your back. You know it, I know it. It's the way the sport works. Whining doesn't get me the title back. But what CAN get me the title is why I'm out here tonight. Jeremy, I know you're in the back, but I prefer to conduct my business here, in front of these great fans. So, a moment of your time, please..."

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JeremyStone-1.jpg

Game On thunders from the speakers, and Jeremy Stone emerges in his signature blazer, UnderArmor shirt and slacks. Stone comes down to the ring; the two men clasp hands in a firm handshake, then pull each other in for a manly hug.

"I doubt I'm surprising anyone with this," McFly begins. "so let's not drag it out. I hereby request, per standard NOTBPW championship contract terms, my rematch for the Heavyweight Title against Johnny Bloodstone at Clash Classic."

Jeremy grins. "I already had it penciled in, but thanks for making it official, Sean. We now have our main event for Clash Classic!"

As the response begins to die down, Jeremy continues. "Was there anything else you wanted to ask me, Sean? Given the circumstances, I'd understand if you'd want a stipulation or two for this fight."

Sean grins, but shakes his head.

"Fair enough, then. But since you're out here, I do have a surprise for you, and our fans. North of the Border is on the rise, and that includes our Women's Division. You in particular, Sean, will be happy to know who we've recently re-signed..."

Where are the people that accuse me?

The ones who beat me down and bruised me

They hide just out of sight

Can't face me in the light

They'll return but I'll be stronger

God, I want to dream again

Take me where I've never been

I want to go there

This time I'm not scared

Now I am unbreakable, it's unmistakable

No one can touch me

Nothing can stop me

Tamara McFly runs down the ramp and straight to Sean, who receives her with a firm brotherly embrace.

After a moment, Jeremy taps Sean on the shoulder. "C'mon Sean, let your sister get to work. Welcome back, Tamara, and good luck!"

Tamara McFly and Kristabel Plum vs Sally Anne Christianson and Emma Bitch

Tamara, joined by Kristabel Plum, put on a solid match with Sally Anne Christianson and the returning Emma Bitch that goes back and forth almost the entire time. Emma and Sally Anne seemed to struggle to be on the same page, which may have contributed to the result.

Tamara McFly and Kristabel Plum defeated Sally Anne Christianson and Emma Bitch in 7:22 when Tamara McFly defeated Emma Bitch by pinfall with a McFly Roll.

Harrison Hash vs. Jared Johnson

While Jared is a natural technician, and is able to hold his own quite well, the experience of Harrison eventually comes to the fore and is able to cinch in his Montreal Deep Sleeper in the center of the ring.

Harrison Hash defeated Jared Johnson in 11:45 by submission with a Montreal Deep Sleeper.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/TommyLondon_alt1.jpg

Tommy London steps into the ring, two microphones in hand and one tucked under his arm.

"Ladies and gentlemen, at this time allow me to introduce to you Damian Carvill and Owen Love, the Can-Am Blondes!"

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/TheNatural_alt1-1.jpghttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/OwenLove_alt1-1.jpg

Ready to Die hits the speakers and the Blondes stride down the aisle, dressed to compete. They come into the ring and take spots on either side of London in an attempt to intimidate him. London hands a microphone to each of them.

"Gentlemen, you requested this time, and myself specifically, I presume, to respond to comments I made recently regarding your chances in this year's Ed Henson Cup."

Carvill raises the microphone to his face. "You know, I really don't give a damn what you think or say, London. You prove you don't know what you're talking about every time you open your mouth. No one in this company has been a regular tag team longer than Owen and I. No one has been as successful in tag team competition in this company than us."

"Your record speaks for itself," London responds. "I certainly don't deny you're one of the most decorated tag teams in NOTBPW. But let's look at the record. Your last Cup win? 2008. That's FIVE years ago. While you've never failed to make the semifinals, and twice been in the finals in that time, each time you've come up short of the prize."

"You don't have to remind us," Owen interjects. "We know what our record in the Cup is. We also know that we win a hell of a lot more than we lose."

London replies, "Again, true. But that's not what I said. You two measure yourself by the Cup. That's a high bar. You've said more that once that you consider the Tag Titles 'beneath' you -- which I think is awfully arrogant -- "

"It's not arrogant, it's the truth!" Carville says emphatically.

"Whether it's true or not isn't really the point. It's been five years since either of you have had gold around your waist, and I'd say your window of opportunity is closing."

"We will win the Cup this year, Tommy." Owen responds. "You may be right about time catching up. That's why I want to win the Cup now, for my partner. We've been a team almost our entire careers. We'll do whatever we have to to win."

Carvill mutters something to himself, and the microphone doesn't pick it up. Tommy, however, seems to have caught at least a portion of it.

"What was that, Damian? I didn't quite catch it. Something about being knocked out with a Love Gun not being one of those things?"

Owen looks surprised. "What? Damian, you know that was an accident. If you hold onto Duane like you're supposed--"

"YOU came in too quick!" Damian interrupts angrily. "It's little crap like that which costs us matches. I NEED you locked in and focused if we're going to win the Cup and we only have a few more weeks to prepare. Now look, we both have big singles matches tonight, we'll be in each others corners, but to be blunt, YOU need to step up. I want to see DUANE get the Gun this time, like he was supposed to. We're done here."

Damian shoves the mike into London's chest and walks off. Owen looks stunned for a moment, then hands his mike to London and follows Carvill up the ramp.

NOTBPW Women's Title Match

The returning Steffi Chee gives Easter a strong challenge, but Easter matches her move for move and when she is able to avoid a senton bomb from Chee, Easter takes control and finishes her before she can recover.

Lauren Easter defeated Steffi Chee in 8:02 by pinfall with a Belly to Belly Suplex. Lauren Easter makes defence number 4 of her NOTBPW Women's title.

Greg Black is backstage, in street clothes, watching the action from a monitor in the locker room. We hear two loud thuds from off camera, followed by the sound of an opening door. Black looks in the direction of the door, then springs up to his feet.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/RKHayes.jpg

"Yo man, welcome back to NOTBPW." Hayes offers a fist. Greg eyes him warily, but accepts the gesture and the two men fist bump.

"Thanks."

"Always good to have another brother in the 'hood, y'know? Never set right with me that Stone sent you off."

"It's all good, dawg. Worked out for me just fine."

"Well, now you back, and we ain't gonna let them keep you down. The Business looks out for its own. We got your back."

Hayes departs, and Black watches him leave, a quizzical look on his face.

Erik Strong vs. Julian Watson

Strong's high-flying, high-impact offense is a sharp contrast with Watson's puro-inspired strikes and kicks. Pace determines everything here; when Strong can dictate a faster, stick-and-move tempo the momentum stays with him. When Watson can slow things down and force Strong to go toe-to-toe, Watson shines. Strong can only keep his preferred tempo up so long, though, and Watson outlasts him as much as anything, finally putting him away at the twelve minute mark.

Julian Watson defeated Erik Strong in 12:13 by pinfall with a Tiger Claw DDT.

Jeremy and Victoria Stone are in their makeshift office, going over some papers when someone pounds on the door off camera. Before either can say anything, we hear the door open and Steve DeColt comes into frame.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/SteveDeColt.jpg

"Let's talk Clash Classic, Jeremy. Nothing was settled at Big City Brawl, so I want Junior again. You tell him, or have Girl Friday do it, I don't care. One way or another, I'm getting him again."

"Actually, I don't have to; he's already told me he wants you in the ring again. He's no more satisfied than you. So yes, you'll get another match with Dan, I just need to work out the specifics."

"The specifics don't matter," DeColt sneers. "The result will not change. Now if you'll excuse me, Johnny and I have a couple of no-names to beat the hell out of."

The Fighting Irish vs. The Outsiders

While it's not fair to call the Fighting Irish no-names, they never really have control in this encounter with DeColt and the NOTBPW champion. What few attempts the Irish make to rally are quickly tamped down by either DeColt or Bloodstone, and it is almost a relief when Bloodstone ends it with his Bloodstone Mutilation on O'Connor with a DeColt Stampede cutting off the save.

The Outsiders defeated The Fighting Irish in 11:43 when Johnny Bloodstone defeated Jason O'Connor by submission with a Bloodstone Mutilation.

Duane Stone vs. Owen Love

A really solid outing from both Duane and Owen, with a bit of everything -- grappling, brawling and flying -- to satisfy the crowd. True to his word, The Natural is at ringside with his partner, and manages to make life difficult for Duane at times with sneaky bits of interference. But about halfway through the match the ref catches Damian red-handed and sends him to the back!

Owen holds his own even without the extra help, and even manages to connect with the Love Gun, but only gets a two-and-a-half count from it. Duane rallies, the two trade spots for a couple of minutes, but it is finally Duane who is able to hit a From Canada With Love and follow it up with an Alabaster Agony for the decision.

Duane Stone defeated Owen Love in 17:50 by submission with an Alabaster Agony.

Sean McFly vs. The Natural

Damian takes the fight right to McFly, and has the upper hand for a good part of the first 10 minutes. Owen is in his corner, but still recovering from his match, so is not a factor, though Damian occasionally will make remarks to him along the lines of "this is how it's done!" Owen is getting visibly annoyed with the lecturing, but does help kill a McFly rally with a classic grab-the-ankle-of-the-guy-coming-off-the-ropes spot.

About 14 minutes in, an extended series of chain wrestling exchanges ends up spilling over the ropes and to the outside; Owen, momentarily distracted, is directly underneath them and ends up at the bottom of the pile. Damian yells at Owen for being in the way, and Owen, fed up with the abuse, leaves ringside! Damian starts to go after him, but McFly, who has recovered in the meantime, grabs him and takes him back to the ring. It's not long before McFly connects with a Delorean Driver and seals the win.

Sean McFly defeated The Natural in 18:03 by pinfall with a Delorean Driver.

Congrats to Dragonmack for achieving...canadimpeccability (?) in his first show prediction of this diary, and to...well, everyone else who got 6/7! (I take some comfort that it wasn't the same match that was missed, but still, predictable booking is predictable. ;))

As a result of the near uniform consistency, not much change in the table. Three more shows to go until we have a winner! And I've decided the prize for winning this go around; you will get to select a worker (not currently on an 8RoW roster or otherwise unavailable) for NOTBPW to hire.

Monday, Week 1, February 2013

House of Stone, Jeremy Stone's office

It had been a good day at the House for its current students, as Jeremy, Dan and Vicki were joined by Duane, Sean and Craig Prince to put the students through their paces, followed by a lengthy bull session where questions about the business in general, NOTBPW lore in specific (along with the occasional story from Duane about working in Japan), and honest feedback given.

After the last of the students headed back to their homes, Jeremy gathered the group in his office to have a month-end debrief.

"All right," Jeremy said to the group to get their attention, "let's get to business. I've had a chance to review the January month-end reports; there's no genuine bad news, but there's varying degrees of good news. We essentially broke even for the month - which I'll take, given the new contracts we signed and the crappy state of the economy both here and down south. As long as we don't do too much more tinkering with the roster, the trend for next month should be positive, as we won't have as many one-time contractual expenses to absorb. Revenues were pretty respectable, considering the climate. About 1.7 million in gate, 280k in media revenue, 550k in sponsorship and 450k in merchandise."

Jeremy paused to give folks a chance to chime in if they wanted, but none took the opportunity.

"Given that, I want to be cautions about taking on any significant new expenses. Networks are scheduling starting today; with the expanded roster I would like to have more on-screen opportunities, but I don't feel comfortable trying to spin up a new show because of the ongoing expenses."

"What about finding another network for Championship Wrestling?" Craig asked.

Vickie replied, "Well, considering we have six months left on the CBN contract, that limits our choices a bit - we won't be able to talk to any of the big continental networks, just because of the conflict of interest. That being said, we need to get Championship Wrestling onto sets down south. We're really not getting the PPV revenue from U-Demand that we should because they're not getting TV."

Jeremy nodded in acknowledgment. "Agreed, though we'll need to be sure that if we do get someone to sign on to have the contract co-term with the CBN contract, that way we can pitch to one of the big networks in August. We'll send out feelers to any network down south that'll talk to us and see what we come up with."

There were nods of consensus all around. Jeremy looked over to Vickie, who took the cue to change the subject. "OK, next let's talk roster. Each of you, tell me one person who's really impressed you over the past few shows, or someone who needs a kick in the tush.

Sean spoke up first. "Hugh Ancrie has stepped up a bit, I think. Still has a ways to go, but is doing the right things in the ring and backstage. Steve has actually taken him on as a personal project - he thinks Hugh's got a lot of upside.

Craig Prince was next. "Jim King has always been a solid midcarder for us, but to me the pace of his progress has picked up a bit. I think he's beginning to realize that the only way he's moving up the card is to kick it up a notch. I'd like to find something more for him to do, just to see how he responds."

"Actually, I think I have an idea along those lines that will get him a bit more screen time." Vickie said. "It may take a little bit but we'll get something started with him."

Duane took his turn. "With all the new tag talent we've brought in, I think we need to consider what to do with teams like Fighting Irish. They're just kind of there right now -- and to be honest their workrate is average at best. I really thought that Jason at least would break out for a singles run, but he hasn't, and I'm beginning to wonder if he will."

Jeremy went next. "I think we called up Devyn Reynaud too soon. I'd really hoped he'd have worked his way past being a one-dimensional bump machine, but I'm not seeing it yet. Don't get me wrong, I think he has a lot of potential, and even with what I just said, he's our best long term prospect. I'm just not sure he's ready for prime time."

"But does sending him back to the House really help? Sean asked. "At this point he needs match time more than anything, I think. And if we're not going to get a B show yet there's not enough screen time to make it work."

Dan, who had been quiet up to this point, chimed in. "What if we started running full shows out of the House, live audience and all? Yeah, there would be some setup expense, but I think it would be manageable."

Jeremy thought for a moment. "It's a good idea, but let's keep it small at first. Without another TV show in the near future, this is one way to get folks at least some match time. Let's do it -- since you're here more than the rest of us, it can be your project, Dan. Let me know who you want to use."

"Sounds good, I'll have something to you in the next couple of days."

Kashmir Singh and El Diablo vs. The Business

The business should win this match if you are looking to make them a strong entity thoughout the dynasty.

Mark Griffin vs. Derek Frost © - TV Title match

I've never been a fan of Derek Frost but he shouldn't lose the title here.

Kashmir Singh and El Diablo vs. The Business

The Business seem to be in the midst of a decent push, so no doubt here.

Mark Griffin vs. Derek Frost © - TV Title match

Frost will not loose the title in his first defence, and Griffin is not high enough on the card to protect.

Tamara McFly and Kristabel Plum vs. Kinuye Mushashibo and Roz Larren

Tamara should be pushed hard out of the gate

Greg Black vs. Marc Speed

I smell a run in by the Business. DQ finish with a post match beat down, methinks.

Lauren Easter and Sally Anne Christianson vs. Amber Allen and Eve Grunge

Amber's worth building up and Eve's just returned, so a win would help her momentum.

The Can-Am Blondes vs. Coast To Coast Connection

You seem to be building up to a split here, so I see a continuation of the disagreeing partners story.

Sean McFly, Tim Westybrook and Strong Medicine vs. Johnny Bloodstone, John Maverick and The Aces

Some momentum to Sean going into the rematch.

Steve DeColt vs. Duane Stone

Put some heat on Steve leading to the match with Dan jr.
