Strong Medicine vs. The Aces © - Tag Team Championship (Beaten handily on the last TV, can't see the challengers doing much)

Stone Machine vs. The Can-Am Blondes (Was that a chemistry note?)

Mighty Cavanagh vs. John Maverick (Kicked his ass on TV)

Dan Stone Jr. vs. Steve DeColt - Last Man Standing (Who Rule?)

Sean McFly © vs. Johnny Bloodstone - Heavyweight Championship (Always preferred Johnny when he's losing)

Fighting Irish & Sons of Haephaestus vs. The Business - Elimination

With the addition of Sayeed Ali, seems like The Business are getting a decent push. No way they lose to these jobbers.

Kristabel Plum vs. Lauren Easter © - Women's Championship

I can see Easter holding onto this title for a while.

Strong Medicine vs. The Aces © - Tag Team Championship

Got a 'feeling' you want to take the titles off The Aces and Strong Medicine are the best guys to do that at the moment I think so even though they lost last time I'm predicting they'll win here.

Stone Machine vs. The Can-Am Blondes

Duane Stone might be higher up the card, but The Can-Am Blondes are (imo) the best tag team in the promotion so I think they will get the win here.

Mighty Cavanagh vs. John Maverick

Cavanagh is young, he's still got a lot to learn.

Dan Stone Jr. vs. Steve DeColt - Last Man Standing

Makes sense to have the guy who is actually on a full time schedule win.

Sean McFly © vs. Johnny Bloodstone - Heavyweight Championship

Bloodstone is good, but McFly is better.

NOTBPW Big City Brawl

Saturday, Week 2, January 2013

The G Davis Coliseum, Mississauga, Ontario

29,442 in attendance

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/Gen11/play_button.png

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/TommyLondon_alt1.jpghttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/TomTownsend_alt1.jpg

The camera pans across the crowd, pumped up from the BCB opening theme, City of Dreams by Dirty South & Allesso ft. Ruben Haze as the broadcast team introduces the show.

"We are LIVE from The G Davis Coliseum and welcome to North of the Border's Big City Brawl! I'm Tommy London, Tom Towsend is with me here at ringside and we have a jam-packed card in store for you -- three titles are on the line and a Last Man Standing match between two men that have no love lost for each other!"

"You can say that again, Tommy! Steve DeColt wants at Junior so badly he couldn't even wait to get in the arena! Tim Weightman is in the back and has the report -- take it Tim!"

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/TimWeightman.jpg

The scene switches to the backstage interview area where Tim Weightman is waiting, microphone in hand.

"Guys, about three hours ago most of the North of the Border superstars had arrived here at G Davis Colesium, but when Dan Stone Junior pulled up in his rental car, he apparently had a welcoming committee in Steve DeColt! We got a camera crew to the scene as fast as we could but by the time we could roll tape the two had been separated by a throng of staff, officials and other superstars..."

The footage rolls; the camera is shaking as the cameraman holding it runs out of the service entrance of the arena towards a crowd of people at a nearby parking lot. A whole host of people are keeping Steve DeColt and Dan Stone Junior separated, the two hurling curses at each other -- the editing crew in the truck made liberal use of the censor beep throughout the encounter. As the camera gets close, we can see that both men have scrapes on their face, presumably from each other or the concrete lot below them. Steve manages to get free and lunges at Dan, only to be pulled back at the last second. Reinforcements arrive in the form of armed security guards; they begin barking orders to the two groups and they separate further.

Fighting Irish & Sons of Hephaestus vs. The Business - Elimination

The Business continues its mauling of the lowercard with a ruthless display of dominance; Hugh Ancrie is eliminated first by Sayeed Ali's GBH Driver and Robbie McNamara falls to Omar Brown's Neck Trauma suplex in short order. Mark Griffin and Jason O'Connor last a bit longer, and even hit a couple of big spots on Harlem Haynes, but the numbers game is already too wide open to secure a fall and each are eventually taken out by a R.K. Hayes Homicide Bomb.

The Business defeated Sons of Hephaestus and Fighting Irish in 12:25; the order of elimination was Hugh Ancrie first, Robbie McNamara, Mark Griffin, and finally Jason O'Connor.

Kristabel Plum vs. Lauren Easter © - NOTBPW Women's Championship

Plum is quick out of the gates and keeps Easter on defense with a series of fast, high flying moves until Easter is able to get Plum to miss on a corner splash. From that point forward, Easter takes and keeps the momentum; Plum tries to rally but each time is cut off before she could get a head of steam going. Lauren remains tenacious, and looks every bit the champion when she finishes Plum off with a Belly to Belly Suplex just past the 12 minute mark.

Lauren Easter defeated Kristabel Plum in 11:34 by pinfall with a Belly to Belly Suplex. Lauren Easter makes defense number 3 of her NOTBPW Women's title.

Strong Medicine vs. The Aces © - NOTBPW Tag Team Championship

In a nine month reign as tag champs, Julian and Jared defended the titles a total of five times; quite honestly, that's not frequently enough. But even as a titleholder, the audience just doesn't know Jared that well and he's going to need more time before he's accepted enough to defend titles regulary. This certainly won't be the last time Julian or Jared see gold, and when they have it next it will be a stronger situation for both of them. To their credit they do a great job here and create a back-and-forth encounter that leaves everyone guessing until the very end.

Strong Medicine defeated The Aces in 15:28 when Harrison Hash defeated Jared Johnson by pinfall with a Century Suplex. Strong Medicine win the NOTBPW Tag Team titles.

We see the broadcast crew at ringside, and Tommy London opens the segment.

"We've still got a lot of show left, and of course our main event with the NOTBPW Heavyweight Title on the line as Sean McFly faces Johnny Bloodstone. Our broadcast colleage Lionel Greenwood is heading back to Sean's locker room to get a few words with the champ ahead of the match--let's go back to him"

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/LionelGreenwood.jpg

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are on our way to talk with Sean McFly in his final preparations to defend his Heavyweight title against Johnny Bloodstone in tonight's main event. Here we are at Sean's locker room--" Greenwood knocks on the door. "Sean, it's Lionel Greenwood, we'd like to get a few words before your match tonight...Sean? Are you there?"

Greenwood pushes open the door and pokes his head inside. "Sean? Are you--oh my God..."

The locker room is trashed. Sean is laid out on the floor, apparently unconscious.

"Get the medics! Get Victoria!"

Stone Machine vs. The Can-Am Blondes

A great match that provides a solid peak mid-show. It's pretty even for the first few minutes, but eventually the Blondes' tag experience begins to show through and they manage to isolate Duane for an extended stretch. Before long the Blondes are feeling quite confident, knowing they have things firmly in hand. Finally, Owen looks to end it -- he tags in The Natural and has him pin Duane's arms back so he can take a clean shot with his Love Gun superkick finisher. Owen steps back, plays the moment up, then steps in and delivers a vicious kick -- but Duane goes limp and ducks low enough that Owen nails The Nautral instead, knocking him clean out! Realizing what he's done, Owen goes to pick up Duane, but referee Alan Gray breaks them up and pushes Love (who is not the legal man at this point) to his corner. Duane starts to revive and wills himself across the ring, Owen desperately screaming at his partner to come to. Unfortunately, he stirs and picks himself up just as Duane makes the hot tag to Tim, who then goes to town -- shoulderblock through The Natural and knocks Owen off the corner for good measure! Westybrook picks up The Natural, sends him into the ropes -- gorilla press slam! Tag to Duane, who climbs the turnbuckles -- Canadian Airstrike! Duane makes the cover and gets the fall milliseconds before Owen can make the save.

Stone Machine defeated The Can-Am Blondes in 25:22 when Duane Stone defeated The Natural by pinfall with a Canadian Airstrike.

Mighty Cavanagh vs. John Maverick

This is why John Maverick is a valuable member of our roster; getting a PPV-quality match (even one meant as a 'cool down' match) out of Danny Cavanagh is no mean task, and yet Maverick makes Cavanagh look both dangerous and competent on his way to taking him out with the Deadly Silence.

John Maverick defeated Mighty Cavanagh in 15:08 by submission with a Deadly Silence.

Dan Stone Jr. vs. Steve DeColt - Last Man Standing

Given the format, it's well established that this isn't going to be a beautiful technical masterclass. It starts as a knock-down-drag-em-out-brawl and gets uglier from there. The momentum goes back and forth over the first half of the match, but the first close call is when Steve hits a DeColt Stampede outside the ring, and Dan doesn't start to stir until 7, but is able to pull himself up with the ring apron. Dan has just enough awareness to avoid a charging DeColt and redirect his momentum into the steel steps, getting a six-count of his own. The fight stays on the outside, and Alan Gray is powerless to do anything other than count when one or both men are down. The brawl starts to wander further afield for a bit, including a scary stage dive by DeColt that not only takes out Dan, but the referee as well, leaving no one to count while Steve tries to revive the referee. After a couple of minutes Eugene Williams comes out to take control of the match and manages to shepherd both men back to the ring. Dan has recouped a bit by now and takes the fight back to DeColt. A Stone's Throw gets a seven-count, a DeColt Stampede gets a seven-count, big move after big move is hit and yet each man claws themself up in time, though the margins are getting closer and closer. DeColt gets desperate; he goes to the top rope for a high impact aerial attack but Stone cuts him off, he climbs up with Steve, they trade punches, and somehow, Stone pulls off the superplex! Both men are laid out and Williams begins the count.

Neither man has moved by six.

Stone begins to stir at seven.

By eight both men are showing signs of life but both are still on the ground.

At nine they are willing themselves off the ground but haven't even made it to their knees yet.

Eugene Williams uses a bit of discretion and looks for either man to make a move to get up, but eventually must count ten and declare a double KO.

Dan Stone Jr and Steve DeColt drew in 26:11 when neither man could answer the ten-count.

Sean McFly © vs. Johnny Bloodstone - NOTBPW Heavyweight Championship

Sean is still showing the effects of the earlier ambush, but gamely makes his way to the ring and refuses to back down. Bloodstone wastes no time pressing his advantage, and for what seems like an eternity systematically takes McFly apart, softening up his already hurting neck and shoulders for the Bloodstone Mutilation. At a key moment, though, Sean is able to reverse a suplex into a DDT and begins to mount a comeback on Johnny. He comes close to pulling it off too, but Johnny puts an end to it with a cheap rake of the eyes and goes back to the offense. He gets the Bloodstone Mutilation cinched in once and it takes everything Sean has to reach a rope for the break. McFly continues to fight valiantly but the combined effects of being punked in the locker room and the persistent offense of Bloodstone eventually become too much, and the second time the Bloodstone Mutilation is locked in, McFly cannot make it to the ropes.

Johnny Bloodstone defeated Sean McFly in 25:43 by submission with a Bloodstone Mutilation. Johnny Bloodstone wins the NOTBPW Heavyweight title.

So, when you make a booking decision that no-one anticipates it is either a sign of visionary genius or moronic stupidity. I'll go with the former if you don't mind. :p

To be a bit more serious, I was kind of surprised that there wasn't at least one person to pick Johnny in the main event. It did give me pause - was I making an obviously dumb decision that only I couldn't see? The show was already booked at that point and passed on to the next player, so even if I wanted to I couldn't make an adjustment at that point. I do want to share a little bit of thought process that went into that choice without pulling the curtain too far back (there's still stuff to be revealed that hopefully will add additional context, but I don't want to talk about that here, obviously.) ;)

Part of the issue is only having two shows to build to the first PPV, so there's not much opportunity to set up things as one might like. Another factor is because it's so early in the game, you don't want to feel like you're cutting title reigns short. TEW13 addresses this somewhat by allowing a title reign to already have a number of defenses baked in at the start. Sean was attempting his seventh defense in six months (he'd won the title from Steve DeColt in July 2012). So while he only had two defenses in game, neither he nor the title get dinged for an artificially short reign.

I have multiple reasons for not putting the belt on Steve at this point, both from a story perspective and a game perspective. Right now I feel that Steve and Dan are 'above' the title, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means they don't need it to maintain top billing. There's a small, but noticeable gap in pop between Dan/Steve and the rest of the main event. I need to close that gap by getting Johnny/Sean/Duane/Tim built up before I feel comfortable putting the strap back on Dan/Steve. It will take a few weeks to address that, and in the meantime I have enough storyarc settled in my mind to take us to the next big show (Ed Henson) and a bit further, and then I can mix things up a bit and have both Dan and Steve focus less on each other and more on the rest of the uppercard.

With that, let's look at the prediction table standings. [One note here: putting this table together I realized that I sorted the previous table on overall %, then by total correct (overall result) when it really should be sorted by total correct, then overall %, and this is how it will be done going forward. Apologies for any confusion.]

I think it's reflex, 'Banger. The vast majority of diaries to date have involved a new booker due to, well, not having the flex TEW2013 has. And we, as smarks, aren't keen on a booker coming in and changing things instantly. So we rule-of-thumb on reflex that the title'll last a couple months into the diary.

I'm not surprised. I wouldn't have booked Bloodstone to win myself, but it makese total sense if you think about. He's beaten him before, and he has good/great Peformance and Technical Skills. Perfect fit for NOTBPW.

That being said, who's the next guy up then?

I'm doing an off-board WIP with NOTBPW where, admittedly, I just transitioned to Steve. But Tim is likely to be the next guy to be given it to run with - where he'll likely feud mostly with Angry Gilmore.

I say this because, let's face it, that's not going to be a spoiler for this diary. I'd love to see Duane take a run at Johnny, and I think that could be awesome.

*Nod* Duane Stone and Tim Westybrook both make sense. But I think Wallbanger is going to have them in the Ed Henson Cup.

I love the idea of Tim Westybrook. The only issue I have with him is, at his age and his weight (Heavyweight), he's not going to develop much Technical Skills, except maybe Submissions. And that's a big maybe.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that too - playing as Vickie, that particular stigma is also removed from the picture, but we're conditioned that the start of a diary is marked by some big change (i.e. the new booker) when really we're just picking up things in progress.

I am very high on both Duane and Tim. Their presence will be felt during Cup season. I consider this month "pre-season" for the Cup, and I'm planning to be doing a fair bit of tag booking this month to introduce folks to the new teams on the full-time roster.

House of Stone Alumni Greg Black Coming Home

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/GrouchoBling_alt2.jpg

North of the Border Professional Wrestling is pleased to announce the signing of Greg Black to a four-year contract. Terms were not disclosed.

Black is one of the "Elite Eight" - the nickname for the House of Stone's 2001 graduates, arguably the most successful group of alumni the House of Stone has trained. The Elite Eight, which includes current NOTBPW Heavyweight Champion Johnny Bloodstone, multi-time Ed Henson Cup winner Owen Love, and former Television Champion Derek Frost, has won nearly 30 titles over the course of their collective careers. Black himself is a two-time SWF tag team champion with fellow Elite Eight member Benny Crane, as well as a former PSW champion.

"I'm just thrilled that Greg is coming back to Canada," NOTBPW Chairman Jeremy Stone said of the signing. "He's had a great run in the States, and I see nothing but opportunity for him here in North of the Border. In fact, I'll be welcoming him to North of the Border and re-introducing him to our fans personally this coming Wednesday on Championship Wrestling."

"I'm pleased with all of the recent talent acquisitions we've made," commented NOTBPW COO Victoria-Stone McFly, "but signing any House of Stone alumni, especially an Elite Eight member, is special. Having Greg back in the North of the Border family is wonderful, and I'm looking forward to seeing Greg in an NOTBPW ring."

Black's arrival comes at a time where interest in NOTBPW is nearing an all-time high. With the announcement of the Ed Henson Cup being an open invitational, wrestlers are coming to Canada from around the world to make their case for inclusion in the tournament. We'll see a few of them make their initial NOTBPW appearances this Wednesday as well.

Be sure to catch Greg's NOTBPW debut and all the other exciting action Wednesday night on Championship Wrestling at 7pm on CBN!

Greg Black is a good signing. It will be interesting to see what you do with him. Perhaps he will form a team with someone for the Ed Henson Memorial Tag Team Cup?

You'll probably be feeding them more jobbers.

Steve DeColt is in a hot fued, I don't think he's going to lose to anyone right now even in a tag match where someone else can take the fall.

On one hand, I think you probably have main event plans for Westybrook and want to get this midcard title off him but on the other hand, I don't think he should be losing to someone like Derek Frost.

Sean McFly vs John Maverick

He really needs a win after losing his title and he's higher up the card than Maverick.

The black signing is really good. Maybe you can sign the rest of "the Elite Eight" at the very least Art Reed and Acid have the work rate to make it on the roster. I've never been a Bobby Thomas fan, but hey it'd make a great stable and I'd love to see some Acid vs Duane Stone matches.

Silly NOTBPW and their love of tag matches. The fans will get sick of 'hot tag' psychology one day, Vickie.

Going with the current 8RoW trend of mystery opponents being stars of the future, introduced as losers.
