NOTBPW Championship Wrestling

Wednesday, Week 1, January 2013

Quebec Stade Uniprix, Laval, QC

10,000 in attendance (Sell Out!)

“Good evening, wrestling fans, and welcome to the first Championship Wrestling of 2013! I’m Tommy London with Tom Towsend at ringside. We’ve got a full night of action in store but first – the fallout from Winter War needs to be settled as NOTBPW Heavyweight Champion Sean McFly must choose a challenger from among the survivors of the Winter WarGames match! Our broadcast colleague Lionel Greenwood is in the ring – take it away, Lionel!”

The ring is carpeted in the signature maroon of North of the Border. A table with three large manila envelopes sets in the middle. Greenwood stands next to the table with microphone in hand.

“Bonsoir, Laval! It is my pleasure to introduce at this time the Chairman of the NOTBPW Executive Committee, Jeremy Stone, and the Chief Operating Officer of NOTBPW, Victoria Stone-McFly!”

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JeremyStone-1.jpghttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/VictoriaStone-McFly.jpg

Game On hits the speakers and both Jeremy and Victoria, microphones in hand, walk down the aisle, shaking hands and high-fiving with fans on each side of the walkway on their way to the ring. Lionel quietly slips out of the ring as Jeremy and Victoria arrive and greet the crowd. The music dies down and Jeremy speaks first.

“Happy 2013, Laval!! Tonight, the contract for the Heavyweight Title match at Big City Brawl is signed and settled! Your Heavyweight Champion, Sean McFly must choose one of these three men to face ten days from now. Each one is a former champion, and none can be taken lightly. First, let’s bring down the toughest SOB in Canada – R.K. Hayes!

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/RKHayes.jpg

You’re Going Down hits the speakers, and R.K. Hayes, all business, strides confidently down the aisle.

As Hayes arrives and the music dies down, Victoria speaks next. “Next, you know him as the Submission Demon, the master of the Bloodstone Mutilation, and two-time former champion, Johnny Bloodstone!”

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JohnnyBloodstone-1.jpg

Becoming the Bull fills the arena and Bloodstone, the hood of his jacket casting a shadow over his eyes, approaches the ring.

“And finally,” Jeremy continues, “there’s no denying this man’s skill, his pedigree, or his record of accomplishment. He’s a five-time world champion; The Outsider, Steve DeColt!”

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/SteveDeColt.jpg

I Stand Alone reverberates through the hall, and Steve DeColt appears at the top of the ramp, taking his time to soak in the disapproval of the crowd. He saunters nonchalantly to the ring.

“Of course, we need a champion for one of these men to challenge,” Victoria says with a gleam in her eye. “He is your reigning North of the Border Heavyweight Champion, the American Tiger, Sean McFly!”

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/SeanMcFly.jpg

The familiar opening to Eye of the Tiger builds, and the crowd reaches a fever pitch as McFly appears, title strapped around his waist. He makes his way down the aisle, enters the ring, climbs a turnbuckle while taking off the belt and holding it high, egging the crowd on. After a few moments, McFly takes his place on one side of the table, putting the belt over his shoulder.

As the crowd dies down, Jeremy addresses Sean. “You know the deal here, Sean. Those three envelopes contain championship contracts for Big City Brawl, with each of these men’s names on one. You have to pick one to sign.”

Sean steps up to the table and looks at the contracts. The three potential challengers exchange glances. DeColt steps forward and takes a microphone from the table.

“Let me make this a little easier on you, boy toy,” DeColt says sarcastically as he looks past Sean to glare at Victoria. He steps around the table to get nose to nose to the NOTBPW champion.

“I will come for this,” tapping the center plate of the big gold belt on McFly’s shoulder, “on MY terms, no one else’s. Everyone in this arena, everyone watching at home, knows that when I do come for this,” – he taps the belt again, “no one will stop me from taking it. Not you, not your wife, not your brother-in-law, no one. But for now, I have unfinished business to settle, so I’ll spare you being embarrassed by me at Big City Brawl.”

He steps back, takes the envelope with his name on it, and rips it in half. With a flourish, he tosses the pieces towards McFly, sets the mike on the table then leaves the ring and heads up the ramp.

A tense moment passes as Bloodstone and Hayes size each other up. The silence is broken by McFly.

“Gentlemen, perhaps you’re forgetting, but this is my choice to make. Now, we could let this crowd decide…”

The crowd pops predictably at this. Hayes grabs the mike and is clearly heard despite the crowd noise:

“Get over yourself, McFly. We both know you aren’t picking me – you won’t take the chance. You’ll take the easy way out.”

This sets off Bloodstone, who snatches Jeremy’s mike and confronts Hayes. “You’ve got some nerve implying I’m the ‘easy way out’. I've beaten McFly for the title; can you say that? For that matter, when was the last time you actually won a title? It’s been so long I can’t even remember—oh wait, wasn’t that back when Shania Twain was culturally relevant?”

Hayes squares up to Bloodstone aggressively. “Why don’t you step up if you think you can take me?” The two start to push against each other. A fight looks likely to break out—

“HEY!!!” Victoria forcefully interrupts. “Stand down, both of you!”

“Now, last time I checked, I make the matches here. And I’m going to go WAY out of my way to resolve this so that neither of you can claim bias from me. Tonight’s main event – R.K. Hayes, Johnny Bloodstone…AND Sean McFly – elimination rules. And guess what, boys? The title’s on the line.”

The crowd goes nuts. McFly’s eyes widen.

“Here’s the deal. Whoever is eliminated first is out of the title match at Big City Brawl, even if it’s Sean – he’ll have to take his rematch afterwards if he goes out first.”

Victoria grabs the two remaining contracts and holds them up.

“Next week, one way or another, one of these – or a contract between Johnny and RK – is going to be signed.”

The debuting Sugiyama puts on a good performance with Easter that the crowd appreciates despite not knowing her at all.

NOTBPW Television Title Match

Tim Westybrook © vs. Lord James King vs. Canadian Dragon

Westybrook is never seriously challenged here, his power and athleticism simply too much for King and Dragon. Even in the brief windows where they team up against him, it's never for long enough to truly hurt Westybrook and he recovers quickly when King and Dragon turn against each other.

Tim Westybrook defeated Lord James King and Canadian Dragon in 12:42 when Tim Westybrook defeated Canadian Dragon by pinfall with a TNT Whirlwind. Tim Westybrook makes defense number 5 of his NOTBPW Television Title.

[The videoscreen shows Steve DeColt in the locker room, bag packed and jacket on as if ready to leave.]

I'm sure there are already people saying I'm ducking McFly. Think whatever you want, I really don't give a flying you-know-what. When I say I have unfinished business, I mean it.

I really thought that once I'd beaten Junior for the title, once you people had your stupid "Stone/DeColt II" fantasy fulfilled 20 years after our dads fought for the CWF title in the biggest CWF main event ever, I thought it would finally be done. I thought the whole Stones/DeColts thing would finally become yesterday's news.

But you're not satisfied. You're NEVER satisfied! You just want me to shut up and play my part. I have told you for years -- I won't give you the satisfaction of fitting the stereotype you try to force me into. That's why I've been doing what I have for the past year and a half. You damned people gave me no other choice! The only way for me to get out of this damned Stones/DeColts crap is for there to be NO MORE STONES IN WRESTLING. That is my purpose. That's why I drove Dan Stone Sr. out of this company. That's why I drove Jeremy Stone out of the ring. And that's why Junior is hiding, because he knows I intend to do the same thing to him.

We have a date at Big City Brawl, Junior. You can't duck me there. I'm going to beat the hell out of you. And I will continue to beat the hell out of you until you quit completely.

A great semi-main event with lots of solid technical wrestling for the fans to enjoy. NOTBPW Heavyweight Title Match

Sean McFly © vs. Johnny Bloodstone vs. R.K. Hayes

Elimination rules: first man eliminated is out of Big City Brawl title match

Bloodstone and Hayes attempt to maintain an alliance against McFly and for the first few minutes succeed in doing so. Of course, about the time McFly is softened up enough for a pinfall attempt, the temptation of winning the title outright (is that why Victoria put the title on the line?) is too much and Hayes sucker punches Bloodstone to go for the pin. McFly kicks out at two-and-a-half, and by this time Bloodstone is up and goes after Hayes with a passion. McFly hangs back and lets Bloodstone and Hayes fight, then picks his spot to take Hayes out when Hayes clotheslines Bloodstone out of the ring. McFly wastes no time after getting the fall on Hayes to retrieve Bloodstone from the floor (though not without a fight and a couple of good railing/ring steps/announce table spots) and the relatively fresh McFly is able to take the win and retain the title.

Sean McFly defeated Johnny Bloodstone and R.K. Hayes in 18:23 when Sean McFly defeated Johnny Bloodstone with a Delorian Driver. Sean McFly makes defense number 6 of his NOTBPW Heavyweight Title.

Good stuff. I really like what you're doing with DeColt's character, it's just like I imagine him to be. It's also nice to see the tag team division being built up.

Looking forward to reading the next show. It will be interesting to see how you keep the DeColt/Stone feud going.

Gotta love Steve DeColt !

With this kind of match making by Victoria, it makes me wonder if we're gonna see some on-screen clashes between McFly and her. There's fine line to walk there without falling in sports entertainment, but this could be interesting nonetheless.

And nice way to protect your ratings from RK Hayes ;)

Hello everyone, and Merry Christmas! Just wanted to take a moment to say thanks to a few folks now that we've got the diary kicked off properly:

First, thanks to the 8RoW crew, and in particular FINisher for letting me have a spot with my favorite promotion in this game. FIN has also been providing me with the logo background renders you see here (I'm certainly not that talented!).

Thanks to the talented re-render crew for many of the alts you see here. Specifically I'd like to thank LoNdOn for his stunning re-render of Victoria Stone-McFly that he did at my request. As I told him when he first sent it to me; "That's the kind of sexiness Sean McFly deserves."

The alternate logo belts that are here were done at my request in the '10 mods forum by Noki, who sadly doesn't seem to be active anymore, but was a really impressive belt designer.

Thanks to Remianen for letting me borrow his namesake for a brief cameo/namedrop in the press conference.

And thank you to the many dynasty writers who have inspired me over the years; Phantom Stranger, Scapino1974, Nevermore, Monkeypox, James Casey, Yuu Onuki, NordVoif, Tigerkinney, and I just know there are others I'm forgetting.

Consider me a reader I can't get enough of Canada!

Wallbanger doing NOTBPW as part of 8ROW? This should ROCK!

Appreciate the support, gentlemen!

As a Haligonian I appreciate the accurate details with area code and postal code.

Immersion +10, reader gained.

Thanks Sartagis; I'm glad that little things like that are noticed and appreciated.

"Oh My God!"

"Oh My God!"

"Oh My God!"

"Oh My God!"

That should be one AWESOME show!

I'm hoping it will be too :p;)

That's one hell of a way of interrupting and closing a press conference. :D

Yes, it is. Sets the stage nicely though.

And Wallbanger snaps up all the girls.. poor Tommy C.

Eh, not really - they're still going to hire pretty much who they want. I am hoping, though, that the ability to get more women involved and working in the game world (if the AI cooperates, cross my fingers) will be a good thing.

Although I commented on this earlier I did so soley on the fact that it was a NOTBPW dynasty and hadn't read the press conference. I just read it and WOW! I felt like I was there and I really like what you did with it. My favoriote part was the fact that Lucy Stone-McFly was mentioned even though she's only 11. If I wasn't hooked before reading that press conference I am now. I can't wait to see where this goes, keep up the great work!

Thanks again - I'm happy it came across the way I'd hoped it would.

Since I already know the results I won't make predictions, but I do want to say that I'm looking forward to seeing NOTBPW in action. I have troubles booking them so I'm hoping this gives me some ideas and stops me thinking of them as being soul-less, even if they did make my favourite referee lose the hats. :(

The same goes for me. Can't wait to see what you do with the machine. :)

THE MACHINE WILL CRUSH YOU AND FEED ON YOUR SOULS--err, I mean, thanks guys! :p;)

Liking the look of this and enjoying the characterizations so far. "The Outsider" Steve DeColt is a nice take. Also have to say that I love that the McFly nickname and theme have basically become canon at this point.

I'm reading/following :)

Good stuff. I really like what you're doing with DeColt's character, it's just like I imagine him to be. It's also nice to see the tag team division being built up.

Looking forward to reading the next show. It will be interesting to see how you keep the DeColt/Stone feud going.

Appreciate it guys! Steve is hella fun to write for. I imagine Steve as what a heel John Cena would be like -- with a healthy dose of Stone Cold Steve Austin mixed in for attitude and unpredictability.

Gotta love Steve DeColt !

I was NOT expecting that. At all. Even slow built, I figured Hayes would start to blow up at the end and keep it from doing that well. But hey, I'll take what I can get. :D

Prediction Table time!

Tiberious4 - 8/8

TakerNGN74 - 8/8

Shadowsong 8/8

Jingo - 8/8

Phantom Stranger - 7/8

BigPapa42 - 6/8

kanegan 7/8

Midnightnick 5/8

moon_lit_tears - 5/8

Thanks again to everyone for reading, predicting, and commenting!

Oh, and if you haven't looked up-thread, the rest of the backstory is posted and all the reserved slots are filled now. I do believe a three post backstory is the shortest one I've ever done. :p

Great first show, Banger. :D Although you used the same description for both tag matches. ;) Also kinda odd that "random Japanese woman nobody ever heard of" get a women's title shot on the first TV show since the Alliance was announced. But I'm liking Steve DeColt, and can't wait to see what you do with some of those tasty signings you've made. :p

The funny thing is the description fits in both places. :p

I tend to make champions defend a lot, particularly lower tier titles. The big strap will be more rare, mostly PPV and the odd TV show, and not without some kind of context (like this show's contract signing snafu).

As D-Lyrium implies, there's a few signings coming in the next couple of weeks. It's actually kind of fun having to think about who to prioritize rather than just getting pretty much everyone you want.

London Calling with Tommy London

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/TommyLondon_alt1.jpg

Hi folks, and welcome to the first London Calling of 2013! We've got a lot to cover so let's get right to it!

The crowd in Laval Wednesday night was wonderful! Lots of questions and buzz during the meet and greet about last week's press conference, the new women's wrestling alliance and the Ed Henson Invitational. I'll summarize the questions here and tell you what I can, which I'll state up front, isn't much:

-- Who all is coming to the Ed Henson invitational? Short answer, we don't know yet. I know Jeremy has sent out feelers to a LOT of folks. I'm not privvy to everything, of course, but I can say that he's been consulting with Duane quite a bit, tapping into his connections and knowledge of the Japanese scene. He's also been on the phone a couple of times with NOTBPW alumni Dark Angel at his new home in Wembley, inquiring about the British and European scenes. No doubt about it, we want this year's Ed Henson Cup to be a truly international affair.

What's really interesting, though, is that a LOT of inquiries are coming into NOTBPW from tag teams who want to take a shot at winning the Cup. We're not talking about indy journeymen or fresh-out-of-school rookies; we're talking about well-established, decorated tag teams who understand what the Cup means and what it says about those who win it. Over the next few weeks you'll be seeing some of them in action here in NOTBPW - the tag team division is about to heat up significantly!

-- When will we see [insert favorite women wrestler's name here] in NOTBPW? Folks, you have to remember, the IWWA is only a week old! Things are still getting established, but you'll start seeing new (and familiar! *wink*) faces in the Women's Division soon, both from the alliance and as permanent additons to the roster.

-- What one team would you love to see at the Cup? I can't name just one. There are so many great tag teams to choose from -- The New Wave, The Machines, The Bumfholes, Team INSPIRE, Team Dynasty 2000, Las Pesadillas. I just want the Cup to draw the kind of talent it deserves.

-- Do you think that [some combination of Alex/Jack/Ricky] DeColt will come? Is Steve seriously calling them out? I really don't know. Steve surprised all of us when he jumped into the press conference and said what he said. We all know Steve likes to talk big, but even by his standards, he tossed a bomb out there.

-- What about Edd? His team beat the New Wave for the TCW tag titles - shouldn't they be considered? Y'know, I'm not touching that one with a ten foot pole. His story is well known by North of the Border fans. I'd say let history be your guide and leave it at that.

One thing is for sure, the next few weeks are going to be interesting!

Now, be sure to tune in on Wednesday for Championship Wrestling -- the contract for the Big City Brawl main event between Sean McFly and Johnny Bloodstone will finally take place, there'll be six-man action as John Maverick and tag team champs The Aces square off against Mighty Cavanagh and Strong Medicine, R.K. Hayes will be in action, and in the main event, The Outsiders, Steve DeColt and Johnny Bloodstone take on Duane Stone and Tim Westybrook! We'll see you there on CBN!

The House of Stone

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JeremyStone-1.jpg

The "original" House of Stone is, of course, the basement of Stone Manor on Porters Lake (colloquially referred to by the family as "the torture chamber"), where each of the Stone children first learned and honed their craft under the watchful eye of Dan Stone Sr. The current site, previously a high-end health club on the western edge of Burnside Park that fell on hard times, is the third building outside of the basement to carry the House of Stone name.

Jeremy maintains an office here; in fact, he prefers it to the corporate building downtown, and goes there only when he must. Officially Jeremy is also the head trainer of the House of Stone, and he does work with students as much as he can, but in all honesty, Dan Jr. does the lion's share of the work since he scaled back his travel schedule. The large window pane that makes up one whole side of Jeremy's office provides him with a view of the main floor below; within the Olympic sized indoor track two training rings are set up. On the opposite wall the dojo's credo is painted in large bright red letters:

HARD WORK BEATS TALENT WHEN TALENT DOESN'T WORK HARD

Jeremy is ignoring his currently overflowing email inbox to watch Dan take the latest set of rookies though bumps. Of this particular group, one has caught Jeremy's eye; a kid who came up from Florida just a couple of weeks prior with little more than the clothes on his back (which were NOT suited for the Haligonian winter, but was taken care of with a quick trip to the mall).

His iPhone rings; the familiar opening to Victorious lets him know who's on the other end. He reaches up to the Bluetooth headset on his ear and punches a button.

"Hi Vicki, what's up?"

"Jeremy, gotta second?"

"For you, anytime."

"I wanted to check with you on a potential roster addition for the women's division."

"Vicki, you know I've always trusted your judgement, particularly on the women's side. You don't need my permission to talk with anyone -- I'll get involved when it's time to talk numbers."

"I know, and I appreciate that. This time, though, I need to know you're supportive first before we get that far... It's Emma."

"...oh."

"Yeah."

Emma Bronson, known to most NOTBPW fans by her ring name Emma Bitch, was at one time one of the hottest prospects the women's division had seen in its history. But she ran afoul of Dan Sr.'s zero tolerance policy for drug use, was released unceremoniously and hadn't been seen, even on the independent circuits, for nearly four years.

"Look, she's in town and wants to talk. You willing to listen?"

Jeremy's gut was screaming at him to say no. But another inner voice was chiding him; you just said you trusted her, now you gotta back that up.

"If you're willing to listen, I am. When will you be here?"

"Within the next hour, I'd guess."

"OK, see you then."

All of a sudden his email didn't seem so bad. At least he had some time to think about what he'd say, consider what the right level of 'hard-assed boss' he should be, before they showed up. He sat down at his desk and started to work his way to the ever-elusive 'inbox zero'.

Vicki had already decided she wanted Emma back. That much he knew. But she was also being genuine in saying she wanted his approval. Of the batch of recent signings she was going after, this was the only one she sought his input on, and even if she hadn't, he wouldn't have vetoed the choice out of hand. But it would have been uncomfortable, given the circumstances of her departure, for a contract with her name to show up on his desk unannounced. He was grateful that Vicki knew him well enough to prepare this way.

He'd only gotten about 10% of the way through his inbox when a knock on the door interrupted his train of thought. The door opened and Vicki emerged from the doorway. "Hi Jeremy, we're here."

"Come on in," he replied.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/EmmaBitch.jpg

His first observation of Emma as she came in behind Vicki was a positive one; it appeared that she'd kept in shape, though a House of Stone workout would tell for sure what her conditioning level was. Her eyes were clear and focused and while she seemed anxious it didn't seem out of context for the scenario. Vicki and Emma sat down in the chairs across from Jeremy on the other side of the desk.

Emma looked at Jeremy and flashed a nervous smile. "...Hi, Jeremy," she said timidly.

"...Hello, Emma. It's been a while."

"Yeah, it has...look, let's skip the BS, OK? Just please hear me out. I'm sure you can figure out why I reached out to Vicki. I messed up - I know that. I wouldn't admit it at first. But then I realized how much I missed this," gesturing out towards the floor. "And if getting clean was what I needed to do to get back to wrestling - here or anywhere - I was going to try my hardest. It took me two years and four different rehab centers, but I did it.

I want to perform again, Jeremy. Please give me another chance."

Jeremy studied Emma carefully for a moment. He looked over at Victoria. "Like I said, I trust your judgement, Vicki. But I have to be honest -- I'm concerned."

"I'm clean, Jeremy -- I PROMISE you that. I'll gladly refer you to my treatment center, and sign off on letting you see any of my records there. I still go to support group sessions in Toronto."

"You know I'm going to insist you be screened both before I agree to a contract and consistently afterward?"

"I expected you to ask. I wouldn't have bothered if I wasn't willing to be tested."

"One more thing."

"Anything, name it."

"Vicki and I are serious when we say we want women in this industry to be role models. As a condition of your contract, you will be expected to cut PSAs for our TV partners and make live appearances promoting a drug-free lifestyle to young people."

Emma was quiet for a couple of seconds, and then nodded. "I'll agree to that."

Jeremy looked at both of them for a moment. "All right, then. Vicki, take her downstairs and put her through the business -- see what she remembers. If, after that, you still want Emma on the roster, and she comes up clean on her screening, we'll get the contract in place."

Emma's eyes lit up, betraying the composure she was trying to keep. "Thank you, Jeremy."

He nodded in acknowledgement. "Thank Vicki; she believes in you, and I'm willing to bet she's right. You know, as I think about it, I don't think Dad would have given you this chance."

"I know. That's why I never asked Vicki to ask him."
