Kristabel Plum & Amber Allen vs. Lauren Easter & Kinyue Mushashibo

Either Plum or Allen (or maybe even both) are going to be going after Easter's title, so this match allows them to pick up a victory against her without Easter looking weak.

John Maverick & The Aces vs. Mighty Cavanagh & Strong Medicine

Okay... maybe The Fighting Irish aren't going to be challenging for the title, it must be Strong Medicine. I think they'll pick up the win here.

The Can-Am Blondes vs. Fighting Irish

No way the best tag team in the company are going to lose to The Fighting Irish.

R.K. Hayes & ??? vs. Sons of Hephaestus

As much as I dislike R.K. Hayes, these guys are jobbers so he won't lose.

Sean McFly vs. Derek Frost (non-title)

Main event champion against Midcarder? Easy win.

The Outsiders vs. Duane Stone & Tim Westybrook

Johnny Bloodstone and Steve DeColt are both in main event storylines so they need the win more.

Side note: You marked me down as getting 8/8 predictions right last show, when I actually only got 7 right (I predicted Fighting Irish would beat Brown & Haynes). Just letting you know.

Literally the only thing that would make this better is if the youngest Stone sister turned up. I miss JeriLynn :(

I thought about petitioning the others to allow me to have JeriLynn, but decided against it; having a completely canonical universe using the existing bookers is part of the 8RoW appeal, I think.

But I very much appreciate the sentiment. Writing NOTBPW without her is different. The major story arc I'm developing is based on, and somewhat a sequel to plans I'd made in Gen10, with Victoria playing essentially the same role JeriLynn was going to with a few changes.

NOTBPW Championship Wrestling

Wednesday, Week 2, January 2013

Victoria Royal Athletic Park, Victoria, BC

9,644 in attendance

The show opens in the loading dock area of the arena; little activity is observed at the outset, but soon the silence is broken by the sound of an approaching engine. The source of the sound is identified when a Ducati Mustistrada touring motorcycle comes around a corner, comes up to the dock and takes a concrete ramp up into the arena itself. A few yards inside and the operator, clad in black leathers and helmet, brings the bike to a halt, dismounts and sets the kickstand. Removing a large duffel strapped to the rack, the still-helmeted figure walks away from the bike and further into the arena. He removes his gloves and helmet and we see that the biker is Steve DeColt.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/SteveDeColt.jpg

He gruffly asks a worker where the locker room is and is directed down a hallway. He finds the locker room door and enters through it. He stops at the door, his eyes narrowing as he discovers someone is waiting for him.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JeremyStone-1.jpg

"So Steve...ran my father out of the company, did you? Ran me out of the ring -- really? That's not how I remember it."

DeColt smirks. "Well, your ability to lie to yourself is near legendary, Jeremy, so I'm not surprised."

"My, that was a deft bit of projection, Steve," Jeremy responds, his eyes rolling. "But I'm not here to argue history or trade insults, fun as that might be. This is about your match Saturday night with Dan."

"Dan can't tell me himself? Are you telling me that the esteemed Chairman of the Executive Committee is playing messenger boy?? Oh, that's rich. Is he even going to show up, Jeremy?" Raising his hands in an 'air-quotes' gesture, he continues, "He doesn't have the guts to come to 'DeColt Country' and face me here, why should I believe he'll show up Saturday?"

"Oh, not only will he show up, Steve, he asked me to make a stip for the match, and I agreed. You say you're going to beat the hell out of Dan? He doesn't think so. He thinks he's going to beat the hell out of YOU, and wanted to make sure he had full opportunity to do so. Your match with Dan at Big City Brawl? It's now a Last Man Standing match."

Steve's mouth hangs open for a moment.

"Wow. I-I'm just-- you're letting him DO this? Look, Jeremy, let's talk for a moment -- big brother to big brother. There are times, when for their own good, you have to let little brothers make their own mistakes. You can't go saving them every single time they spout off and get in a scrape. This? ...this is NOT one of those times. You're giving me license to DESTROY him, Jeremy, and I will. He may have asked for it, but a big brother who loves him would, in this case, have saved him from himself. What happens to Junior Saturday night...is on YOUR hands."

Steve turns and walks away, and Jeremy looks ever so slightly concerned as he watches DeColt leave.

Kristabel Plum & Amber Allen vs. Lauren Easter & Kinuye Mushashibo

A good opening match, with everyone getting some time to shine, but this match is mostly about Easter and Plum. Try as she might, Easter cannot keep Plum down when in the ring, but eventually Plum has to tag out. Allen gets a good start, but a belly-to-belly suplex puts Easter in control, and then she and Mushashibo isoate her in the corner. Allen manages to rally and make the hot tag and Plum goes to town on Mushashibo and almost gets her after connecting with the Plum Tucker, but the pinfall attempt is broken up by Easter. A minute later Easter positions herself to tag Mushashibo as she hits the ropes with Plum unawares, then chop blocks her from behind to set up the Figure Four Leglock. Plum is furious with herself for getting caught out in such a fashion.

Lauren Easter and Kinuye Mushashibo defeated Kristabel Plum and Amber Allen 8:22 when Lauren Easter defeated Kristabel Plum by submission with a Figure Four Leglock.

John Maverick & The Aces vs. Mighty Cavanagh & Strong Medicine

A good six-man match here, with Hash and Strong showing some real fire against the current tag champs, but the story of this match is "The Silent Threat", who looks strong regardless of who he's in the ring with, even grounding the much larger Cavanagh. With some effective double and triple team moves, Cavanagh is taken out of the picture, and Maverick gets the Deadly Silence locked in on Strong for the submission.

John Maverick & The Aces defeated Mighty Cavanagh and Strong Medicine in 12:06 when John Maverick defeated Erik Strong by submission with a Deadly Silence.

The Can-Am Blondes vs. Fighting Irish

The Blondes pick up another win here, though the Irish do give them a bit more of a fight than they got the previous week.

The Can-Am Blondes defeated Fighting Irish in 11:39 when The Natural defeated Robbie McNamara by pinfall with a Nature Calls.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/VictoriaStone-McFly.jpg

Victoria Stone-McFly stands in the middle of the ring, holding a clipboard.

"We're going to try this again. Saturday night at Big City Brawl the NOTBPW Heavyweight Championship will be on the line as Sean McFly defends against Johnny Bloodstone in what's sure to be a classic North of the Border main event. I have the contract here in my hands, and we'll bring out the principals to make it official. First, your NOTBPW Heavyweight Champion, Sean McFly!!"

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/SeanMcFly.jpg

Eye of the Tiger fills the arena and McFly arrives, dressed in jeans, collared shirt and blazer, the title belt draped over his shoulder. He works his way down the aisle, acknowledging fans on both sides and all around ringside. He comes into the ring, holds the belt up for a pop, then comes over to Victoria. She hands the clipboard and a pen to him, he scratches his signature across the bottom, and gives his wife a peck on the cheek as he hands the clipboard and pen back to her.

Victoria continues: "And the man facing him on Saturday--"

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JohnnyBloodstone-1.jpghttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JaredJohnson_alt1-1.jpg

Becoming the Bull interrupts Victoria in mid-introduction and Bloodstone appears at the ramp, but surprisingly, he's flanked by his protege Jared Johnson, one half of the tag team champions. The pair walk up the aisle in lockstep. They arrive at ringside, and both Sean and Victoria meet them at the ropes and the group begins to argue. After a few seconds Bloodstone holds up his hands in mock surrender, whispers instructions in Johnson's ear, and climbs up the steps alone.

He takes the clipboard from Victoria and stares McFly down as he signs his name to the contract. He thrusts the clipboard back to Victoria and demands the mike.

"You two are real cute by the way. That whole stunt last week with putting the title on the line? You 'going out of your way to not be biased'? Bullcrap. You knew exactly what you were doing, and it sure as hell wasn't objective. But you know something? I don't care. I've beaten you for that title, McFly, and I'll do it again. Play your games if you want, but it's not going to matter in the end..."

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JulianWatson.jpg

Unbeknownst to Sean, Jared's partner Julian Watson has come through the crowd behind him, jumps the railing and hits the ring. Sean hears the approach, realizes he's caught in a Charlie Foxtrot, and tags Bloodstone before turning to face Watson. That brings Johnson into the ring and for a frightening few moments it is three-on-one against the champion.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/JeremyStone-1.jpghttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/ErikStrong_alt1.jpghttp://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s59/Wallbanger1071/8RoW/Roster/HarrisonHash_alt1.jpg

It doesn't take long before the cavalry arrives in the form of Jeremy Stone, Harrison Hash and Erik Strong, and the brawl continues for a few moments before Bloodstone and The Aces disengage and retreat up the aisle, taunting the group standing tall in the ring.

R.K. Hayes and Sayeed Ali vs. Sons of Hephaestus

R.K. Hayes and a slightly smaller but equally angry man come down the aisle together and immediately take the fight to both Mark Griffin and Hugh Ancrie. It takes referee Alan Gray a couple of minutes to separate them so the match can officially begin. Not much of a contest, as Hayes and Ali pretty much have their way with the rookies. Ali looks especially dangerous, and Hayes looks on in admiration as Ali systematically destroys whoever is in the ring with him.

R.K. Hayes and Sayeed Ali defeated Sons of Hephaestus in 8:51 when Sayeed Ali defeated Mark Griffin by pinfall with a G.B.H. Driver.

Ali takes only a moment to acknowledge the end of the match before going right back to beating down Griffin. Ancrie tries to make the save, but not only does Hayes step in, fellow stablemates Harlem Haynes and Omar Brown come down the aisle and the scene turns into a four against two mugging. After a couple of minutes Griffin and Ancrie are unceremoniously dumped from the ring, and Hayes grabs a mike and 'officially' introduces Ali as the newest member of The Business. He goes on to say he's 'damn sick and tired' of the current state of affairs in North of the Border and puts the locker room on notice that this isn't the last addition we'll see to The Business -- those who valued their health would be wise to steer clear of the stable's path.

The Natural and Owen Love are in the locker room, cleaned up from their earlier victory. The Natural makes note of Tommy London's recent column regarding the tag teams inquiring about entering the Ed Henson Cup, and states that anyone thinking they have a prayer at competing at the Cup would have to go through them, and simply put, they won't get through them. "We're the best tag team in wrestling today, and we'll prove it when we win our third Cup this March -- and it doesn't matter who shows up, the result won't change!"

Sean McFly vs. Derek Frost

Derek is one of those guys who is never going to be great, but over time has become one of those rocks in the midcard that when paired with good workers will give solid, predictable results night in and night out. Tonight, with Sean, is no different, and as a TV semi-main event it's perfect - good enough to maintain the crowd with little risk of overshadowing the match to come.

Sean McFly defeated Derek Frost in 17:55 by pinfall with a McFly-n-Sault.

30-minute Iron Man Tag Team Match

The Outsiders vs. Duane Stone and Tim Westybrook

Iron man rules: Most falls in time period wins, no sudden death overtime

Duane and Tim look like they've been teaming for years even though this is their first time together. They seem to have an instinctive knowledge of each other's ring positioning and come up with some sweet double-team moves, including a sick combination of Westybrook's TNT Whirlwind (Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker) and Duane's From Canada with Love (Diving Headbutt) dubbed the Canadian Airstrike by Tommy London; the move scores them their second fall to go ahead 2-1 twenty minutes in. The Outsiders rally, however, and score two falls in quick succession to pick up the close-fought win.

The Outsiders defeated Duane Stone and Tim Westybrook at three falls to two after winning the first, with the final fall happening when Steve DeColt defeated Tim Westybrook by pinfall with a DeColt Stampede.

I continue to be massively jealous of NOTBPW's huge psychology scores and ability to churn out A rated main events almost at will. That said, I'm sending BHOTWG over via PPV to compete with you and victory will be ours! :)

Nice show, Banger. Looking forward to your PPV when you get that far, and I'm wondering if you'll manage to hit an A* match at all cos they ain't easy. :)

Another fun show to read. I like how the match descriptions go into the quality of the matches, as opposed to being purely story driven. Just makes sense for a workrate promotion to have that slight 'smarky' tone. The whole presentation feels very NOTBPW to me. I mentioned him on my last comment, but Steve DeColt is very well presented. I'm a mark for anything involving families, and the Steve/Jeremy scene was right up my alley.

As your direct competition in 8RoW, I fear your scores. I find myself wondering why a wrestling fan in Canada would choose CGC over this mighty NOTBPW. ;)

Enjoying this one, Banger. And I'm glad to see you're using the undercard on TV and not spamming Stones and McFly's throughout. :p (Edit: That wasn't supposed to be a slight to any other Canadian promotions in the project, as I just realised it might sound :p). Ali is a solid signing and a fine addition to the 'brawler' stable.

Thank you to everyone that's commented/predicted thus far. I really appreciate it. So far things are going better than expected, honestly. I'm still adjusting to '13 a bit, but I really like the fact that I can put angles in that don't kill a show rating even in a workrate promotion. In fact, I think the '13 method of show rating calculation is actually helping a bit since I can knock out a couple of high rated angles with the main event crew.

For all of the worrying I was doing about my main event being nerfed by decline, I'm relieved to discover it to not be as bad as I feared. Right now I only have two Time Decline entries and they're early enough that the dings I'm getting are still minor.

This last main event was assisted by the fact that Duane and Tim have tag chemistry.

*squee!* :)

*furiously rewrites notes for buildup to EHMTTC*

All that being said, I'm not going to be able to keep this form consistently, if for no other reason because I'll have to pace the big matchups to avoid repetitive booking dings. Everything looks wonderful now, but building up the second tier is critical because things may look radically different in 6-9 months gametime.

As an only child, I very much appreciate this feedback, Self. Remembering some of the things you've shared over the years here, if the dynamic is ringing true to you, that makes me feel good, because I don't have the same life experiences to draw from to make it work.

From a game standpoint, Canadian fans are definitely workrate oriented. But I do think there's crossover appeal as well as a SE fanbase for CGC. Canada needs a CGC for folks who are more comfortable as entertainers regardless of their workrate level.

Heh.

I'm pleased to have Ali in NOTBPW - the character fits and he should help with developing the others in the stable, Harlem Haynes in particular. He'll be getting a push to start with and then will be part of a program with another key signing to pay off at Mid Summer Madness if all goes well.

My jealous for your scores are only outdone by your skill as a writer. I've been loving all of the Steve DeColt stuff and can't wait to see what you do with Ali (a personal favorite of mine).

See above; like I said, to me Ali fits nicely in The Business. He's not lower card jobbing fodder, he's part of a stable and part of a storyline. I hope I do well by him for you.

Because Big City Brawl is only the third show, I'm going to keep this table going through Clash Classic, at which point I'll have come up with something appropriately spiffy to reward the prediction winner with.

Speaking of Big City Brawl, it's already in the can, so I'll be getting the next round of posts up in the next couple of days, then settle in to write up the PPV itself. (Minor spoiler: I'm VERY happy with the results. :D) Hopefully I have all that mostly in place before the save gets back to me to book the next episode of CW.

Fighting Irish & Sons of Hephaestus vs. The Business - Elimination

The Business is looking to make a statement in NOTBPW, and with the recent recruitment of Sayeed Ali, that statement's coming through loud and clear. You've got to admire the spirit of Fighting Irish and Sons of Hephaestus for agreeing to this 4-on-4 elimination bout considering their recent history with R.K. Hayes' bruisers; can they stand up to the bullies under the Big City Lights?

Kristabel Plum vs. Lauren Easter © - NOTBPW Women's Championship

Kristabel Plum gets a shot at Lauren Easter's Women's Championship, but Easter has looked unstoppable as of late - can the two-time former champion's veteran wiles pull off the trifecta?

Strong Medicine vs. The Aces © - NOTBPW Tag Team Championship

The Aces are looking strong as 2013 opens, nine months into their first run as tag team champions. Strong Medicine aren't strangers to title matches, but it's been a year since they held the gold. Who comes out on top in this battle for tag team gold?

Stone Machine vs. The Can-Am Blondes

Despite coming up just short against The Outsiders -- and there's no shame in that -- Duane Stone and Television Champion Tim Westybrook looked like a team that could be special. We already know The Can-Am Blondes are special, and have the resume to back it up. Are we looking at a potential preview of the Ed Henson Cup final?

Mighty Cavanagh vs. John Maverick

"Mighty" Danny Cavanagh is looking to get one back from "The Silent Threat" John Maverick after their recent encounter on Championship Wrestling -- can the Mighty one break the silence and post a win?

Dan Stone Jr. vs. Steve DeColt - Last Man Standing

We're used to Steve DeColt running his mouth, but his rhetoric has gotten especially hot in recent weeks, claiming he'll run the Stones out of wrestling. Dan Stone Jr. responded by daring the original "Outsider" to a Last Man Standing match. With no holds barred and no letting up until someone can't respond to a ten-count, can the Big City contain the violence to come?

Sean McFly © vs. Johnny Bloodstone - NOTBPW Heavyweight Championship

Sean McFly and Johnny Bloodstone renew a long-standing rivalry when they meet in the main event of Big City Brawl. Bloodstone can make a claim few others can -- he's beaten McFly for the title before. Can he do it again, or will McFly walk out of Big City Brawl with his six-month championship reign intact?
