I would greatly appreciate it if you made this mod public.

Just finished up reading The Death of WCW this afternoon and they claim Bischoff was pushing hard (again) to get WCW on FOX after Time Warner said they were axing wrestling from their networks and he was attempting the purchase in early 2001. He had been trying to cut a deal with FOX for over a year and it seemed like the most realistic of the bigger networks out there to carry WCW due to the perception that FOX is low brow. Would FOX be too big of a network for that to work with the game's mechanics?

I'd also recommend leaving Benoit in, as it would be easier for those that want him out to delete him than to import him and balance his ratings out for those who want him in. Not a big deal either way though.

How are Hogan/Sting/Goldberg/Nash/etc. handled in this scenario?

Thanks again for your hard work!

I'm interested in this mod as well...BTW leave Benoit and Woman in. Just like any other evolving game world different things happen then they do in RL. Honestly if the man wasn't so dedicated/dangerous in the ring he would not have had the brain damage that caused the....incident.

How are Hogan/Sting/Goldberg/Nash/etc. handled in this scenario?

I would bet he has them on injury leave for the year or so after this. Even after that year WCW would be so low to start that none of them would sign anyway.

Fox would for sure be too big but F/X wouldn't be. Thats why I suggested it because as you said Bischoff really was negotiating with Fox (like Heyman was with the USA network). F/X was an up and coming network it was owned by the Fox company. MRC had just mentioned wanting to go for realism and I would think that Fox or F/X in this case or a network like E! or something along those lines would be a lot more realistic than Showtime. Either way though I'm just looking forward to checking it out.

Is anyone on the roster that isn't "canon". Meaning WWF bought out 28 contracts from WCW that includes DDP who technically signed on his own without being bought out. Would those 28 be the only guys on the roster?

Hogan/Nash/Goldberg/ect are On Hiatus at this point, as its the best real in-game way to simulate what the reality of the time was. As I said earlier, they all had 6+ figure guaranteed deals with Turner, not WCW, so when WCW was bought, most talents had to agree to contract buyouts, but why would someone like Nash do that when he could instead sit on his ass and collect a 6 figure salary? I may incorporate some optional narratives to prompt people to take people off Hiatus at times based on real life. The way I handle a lot of narratives is leaving them very open ended. Even Rock leaving for Hollywood in 2002, the narrative is actually just a quick article speculating it may happen, you as the user can then chose to make the rumor of "The Rock Going Hollywood?" True or not.

So as of now, workers on hiatus, related to WCW, are: Bam Bam Bigelow, Curt Hennig, Goldberg, Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Scott Steiner, Sting, & Van Hammer of all people! (on top of people like Shawn Michaels, Ken Shamrock, ect).

I like to play with the "handcuffs" of the reality of WCW being its own brand. People who say "they could book the invasion so good!" and then mention Hall/Nash/Sting/Flair/ect are just blowing smoke. Its like saying you could win a Stanley Cup and just naming star players you'd build your team around that you cant get.

Workers most people are going to look at when its released, that can be signed, that most will be looking to pick up are probably Scott Hall (was released before WCW folded), Jeff Jarrett, BG James, & Rey Misterio Jr., so outside of the basic Invasion roster, you can flesh it out half well with them. Booker/DDP/Hall/Jarrett/RVD main event scene isnt half bad, not to mention some may sign someone like AJ Styles and try and push them to the moon semi-unrealistically. Or the always interesting challenge of trying to run Palumbo/O'Haire/Jindrak/Sanders/whoever into a main eventer.

As for the Network for Nitro, Fox is too big, as that was my first thought as well. It just makes WCW very unsustainable, and like I said, I like to think the idea of the mod is more to have some wacky fun. Being on Showtime (or a smaller network) can allow you to get away without having to sign random old/semi-popular people like Jim Duggan, just to scrap by. Once you make it into 2002 though, people like Shawn Michaels come back (in a test game I loved booking a "nWo Re-Hash" where HBK was the third man instead to feud with Booker, RVD, & DDP) the scene, and if you sign people like John Cena, Samoa Joe, ect, they start to develop into useful workers by 2002 generally.

I'm currently doing really mundane shit with movesets (just realized I skipped all "yet to debut" characters), so its still a while off as work gets in the way, but this will come out in some form, since even if you can the WCW idea, its really just a visually improved, with slight changes, original mod.

I will probably leave Benoit in, just felt like throwing the name out to see how people reacted. Like I said, using the pre-game editor, or in-game editor, makes it really easy for anyone to make him disappear.

I really love the idea of this and the work you're putting into it. I've got a 2001 game going now that I can't wait to trash and remake with this scenario.

Regarding the Turner contracts, I LOVE that you're implementing them properly because it's how it should be but I do have a small suggestion regarding one of TEW's pesky limitations. Might be best to give the people who were never gonna accept buyouts, like Kevin Nash, either a Temporary Soul Separation style injury until the week their Turner contract is up or a Left The Business status, using a narrative like you mentioned to remind the player they're ready to return when the time is right. On Hiatus leaves it up to chance since they can come back on their own any time and then the narrative entry won't make sense and the realism factor will be thrown off. Left The Business is the more flexible idea for the Nash types since it will allow the player to correct it in the in-game editor if they want to "buyout" the contract ahead of time, but the injury is the most realistic since you're stuck with it AND the better overall choice since they'll come back automatically.

Just an idea to make this even more realistic/difficult. Can't wait to get my hands on it and fire up a game.

Although I agree with your decision to have them on hiatus, it's not like it would've been impossible for the WWF to buyout the big WCW stars' contracts once WCW was theirs. They were swimming in money despite the XFL debacle and a full-on proper invasion would've done absolute gangbusters and made whatever payout money they spent in one or two PPVs.

With that in mind, the idea is to set-up WCW so that you have to be resourceful and play within your means, so hiatus or injury works. This is a different reality, so having them nearly impossible to get makes sense.

As for an injury mod, Sockpuppet made an injury mod that has complex medical names for injuries. Ideally, there would be a mod somewhere between the lighthearted/simple default set and Sockpuppet's very complex set.

Small notes and changes of stuff I've done.

To Open Promotions Expanded Ever So Slightly:

USA:

CHIKARA Pro (2002)

EVOLVE Wrestling (2009)

Full Impact Pro (2003)

Major League Wrestling (2002)

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (2003)

Pro Wrestling IRON (2002)

Pro Wrestling WORLD-1 (2004)

Pro-Pain Pro Wrestling (2002)

Ring Of Honor (2002)

SHIMMER Women Athletes (2005)

Total Nonstop Action (2002)

Wrestling Is Fun! (2011)

X Wrestling Federation (2001)

Mexico:

Perros Del Mal (2008)

British Isles:

1 Pro Wrestling

Frontier Wrestling Alliance

Japan:

HUSTLE (2004)

Kaientai Dojo (2002)

Wrestle-1 (2013)

Australia:

World Wrestling All-Stars

I would love to add more future promotions. The problem is, I dont think adding a dozen promotions set to open post 2005 is really worth it, since, lets be honest, how many people actually play a game for that long. Any suggestions, I'm open. Wrestling Is Fun! is only really included as a "if Chikara goes bust and you play that long" option. Quackenbush is the mandatory owner, so if Chikara is going strong, it wont open.

Other Stuff

Sadly the Canadian, UK, Europe, & Australia scenes just are not that developed, and I dont really want to, or have any interest in, adding 100's of workers, especially ones I dont know. So those regions will likely stay that way. I may add some Canadian talent, but I dunno.

I finished up the majority of movesets. Pretty much all active wrestlers have movesets now except the Joshi scene, though I'll tackle it eventually.

I also have gone through and updated a bunch of rosters (mainly Japan, but all of them in general). The original data took a lot of creative lisense with rosters, with most rosters being outdated by either a few months before or a few months after May 2001. The way I judged most rosters is by the first batch of results from May. So for Japan for example, If someone was around in April, but didnt appear again until November, they are off the roster.

I found a few things you should check, Genadi.

-Hugo Savinovich is Ecuadorian (I've said it a dozen times before, but this seems to be a common mistake in mods as he's put as a Mexican) and also, he should be working in WWF, not WWC, therefore should be active in both USA and Mexico.

-Carlos Cabrera is Colombian (I've said it a dozen times as well), and he should be working in WWF as well.

-Konnan is Cuban.

This also should be applies to the WCW Lives On Mod as well :p

So Fleisch had some work on Genadi's 2001 WCW Survives mod, and wasn't able to take it as far as he wanted, so he posted it up in his thread. I've been toying with it. Don't know if I'll actually release it as a mod, but it may happen. Genadi's mod was obviously entirely playable, so what Fleisch posted was as well. So its mainly a matter of cleaning things up a bit, making some tweaks and adjustments, and so on. Still, taking a fair bit of time, especially as I'm not a KYKY fan at this point so a different pick pack is underway.

What Mr Canada posted in here has actually been quite helpful.

What about the mod with WCW still alive??

Love your work

WCW lives is my favorite mod of all time, and I never post on the forums but I had to say that. Looking forward to whatever Genadi does for '16
