ANNIVERSARY SHOW 1

Saturday, week 3, May 2002

Bourbon Street Night Club, New Port Richey, Florida

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS4-2gY4PmaCHHxBzyxIOKl916Ax2rfFwk24ZZDFRWiFT5zJsrs

Beer Money v Spanish Announce Team

A good opening contest that saw some decent tag team wrestling, it was the Maximos who got the better of Roode and the Cowboy in 10:22 when Joel Maximo defeated 'Cowboy' James Storm by pinfall with a Spanish Fly. D

Backstage, in a short ceremony, Potter presents the PSW South Eastern Tag Team Championship belts to the first champions, Kings of Wrestling. Potter congratulates Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli. E

James Maritato v Doug Williams

Another new wrestler to PSW, and another one making an instant impression. The match was very good and it was the debutant Maritato who emerged with the win in 7:47 by submission with a Sicillian Crab. C-

Drew McIntyre v Kevin Steen

Steen himself made a promising debut a few months ago, but he has been lacklustre since. Having started with two wins, this is his third straight defeat, as he succumbed to the Scotsman in 11:44 by submission. D

PSW SOUTH EASTERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Kings of Wrestling (champions) v Double R

A good match where the champions were in control for most of it. They looked slick and very much a well gelled team, and took the match in 15:03 when Claudio Castagnoli defeated Roderick Strong by submission with a Neutralizer. Kings of Wrestling make defence number 1 of their PSW South Eastern Tag Team titles. D+

Austin Aries v Samoa Joe

A good match in front of a good crowd, although the match did start to drag a little in the middle due to a lack of flow. Aries got the better of the larger Joe in 17:15 by pinfall with a 450 Splash. D

CM Punk v Amazing Red

Another good contest as the crowd are getting increasingly into the action. Punk managed to combat Red’s quick offence to outwrestle his smaller opponent in 19:20 by submission with an Arm Triangle Choke. D+

PSW SOUTH EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP

AJ Styles (champion) v Caprice Coleman

A main event high in quality which again showcased that AJ Styles is top dog in PSW and also has Coleman’s number, defeating him for the fourth time in one year even though he wasn’t on his game tonight. His latest triumph came in 27:34 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. AJ Styles makes defence number 10 of his PSW South Eastern title. C

Show rating: C-

The show increased PSW’s popularity in the South East.

Bobby Roode and Rocky Romero were used too much.

Attendance: 106

Loss: $6250 (new PSW record)

Anniversary Show 1 was PSW’s fifth best ever event.

AJ Styles v Caprice Coleman was PSW’s eighth best ever match.

The show attracted PSW’s second highest ever crowd.

Number One Contenders match

Beer Money v Double R v Spanish Announce Team

‘Cowboy’ James Storm performed poorly tonight and this cost his team dearly. Double R were the beneficiaries and earned a second chance at the Tag Team Championship when they won the opener in 10:50 when Roderick Strong pinned James Storm. D

Doug Williams v Caprice Coleman

An awkward looking bout but there was some decent action in front of a good crowd. There was no surprise in the result, with Williams really struggling in PSW, Coleman disposed of him comfortably in 8:52 by pinfall with a Thermal Shock. D

James Maritato v Kevin Steen

Another awkward looking bout and Steen’s slump continues as Maritato chalks up his second win in PSW. It arrived in 13:15 by submission with a Sicillian Crab. Steen’s initial promise has very mch faded away. D+

Drew McIntyre v Amazing Red

McIntyre is very much back on track, chalking up an impressive victory over Red who has been as high as second in the rankings, but will probably fall below his opponent tonight following this defeat. McIntyre’s win came in 12:46 by submission. D+

PSW SOUTH EASTERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Kings of Wrestling (champions) v CM Punk & Samoa Joe

Punk and Joe brought a lot of intensity and technical ability to this match and perhaps their inexperience as a team contributed to their defeat to the champions. The Kings of Wrestling chalked up a very impressive victory in 21:30 when Claudio Castagnoli defeated CM Punk by submission with a Neutralizer. Kings of Wrestling make defence number 2 of their PSW South Eastern Tag Team titles. C-

PSW SOUTH EASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP

AJ Styles (champion) v Austin Aries

A lack of psychology meant the match didn’t flow as well as it could have, but a good crowd and some good in ring action helped make it a very respectable main event. AJ’s superiority in PSW continued with another win, arriving in 25:19 by pinfall with a Styles Clash. AJ Styles makes defence number 11 of his PSW South Eastern title. C
