[RELEASE] The Main Event: Feb 1988 RW Historical Mod

Recommended Posts

Rod started with the WWF in September of 1988 and left in February of 1989

Thank you, sir! :) And I realized my mistake of calling him "Ron" instead of "Rod" as I was going to bed. >.< I must have had "Ron" on the brain for some reason. :D

So now AWA is 100% complete this time around, as I've got Rod and Lee Marshall as their announcers to start(unless Lee shouldn't be there... again, not remembering the time frame as I didn't have ESPN at the time).

Unless someone knows of anyone who worked in the CWA(Memphis, the Jarretts/Lawler territory) as a manager(maybe Tommy Gilbert for Eddie and Doug? not sure), CWA is most likely finished. So that would bring the completed promotions up to:

-WWF

-NWA

-AWA

-WCWA

-CWA

I may try to tackle NJPW, AJPW, CMLL or AAA next to try and get those out of the way early.

Genadi seems to have fallen off the face of the earth; justtxyank logs in from time to time but isn't as active; don't know where Hive is; so alvarasus, I gotta ask... how do you go on about making face and heel listings for the foreign promotions such as CMLL, AJPW, NJPW, AAA, etc.? I mean, I know I can read results, but the results don't exactly say who worked as the face and who worked as the heel. :p

For that matter, anyone that can lend a helping hand is welcome to chime in with any help they can provide. Like jhd1 was talking about earlier, it would be ideal for me to have a team to work with in working on the foreign company rosters for the time period of January to February 1988.

Cheers Matt, looking really good, and all the possibilities in the WWF make me anxious for this mod to come out. Going to make Demolition beat Strike Force for the Tag Titles like in real life :)

Thank you. :D BTW, been reading your 1999 diary. I like what I'm reading so far. ^_^ You wouldn't mind sending a zipped file of that mod my way, would ya? :p I'll PM you my e-mail that you can send it to.

And I figured you would do something with Demolition, given your screen name and avatar.

Foreign? If there was any way to put promotions in Brazil i could help you :p I could see some things about Mexican and Japanese promotions, i can't promise that it's a full help for your problem, but i'm going to check.

So I was thinking, as far as contracts for promotions outside the US/Canada go(mainly ones in Japan, Europe, etc), would anyone have a problem if the face/heel status are set to default to which one the worker is best suited for? For example, when you're creating a contract for someone in the mod editor, if they're a better face than a heel, then their status will default to face unless you change it. Given that example, would anyone have a problem if I just left those statuses to the default for the promotions in Japan, Mexico, etc? And then if someone who is more well versed in those promotions speaks up, I can let them clue me in accordingly. And lastly, do you all(well, save for beta testers who will know already) want to be surprised as to who the User Characters are, or do you want me to spill it here? :p

Well I usually let it be default. Read the bios also helps especially in Mexico and Europe. Japan most of the native workers were used as babyfaces and the foreigners heel. Same applies to Puerto Rico as well foreigners were usually the bad guys. Their is foreigners in Japan who work face but yeah just use the default would be best.

Yeah, giving contracts to foreigners in Japan and Puerto Rico should be pretty easy based on that fact of most foreigners being heels.

I was adding the title lineage for CWA's(Memphis) AWA Southern Tag Team Titles up till February 1988... good lord! I've heard stories about the booking in Memphis, but good gosh, there were over 20 title changes for that title alone! You can imagine how much work that took. At this point, I'm adding titles as I finish the rosters for the companies.

Update time: Firstly, I think from here on out, when importing title histories, I'll just import them from justtxyank's Rising Storms data(I do have permission, as I do have permission to import from Genadi's Golden Age and Alv's War to Settle the Score), and mass delete the future title reigns. Figured that would be quicker, not to mention easier when it comes to titles where the promoters liked to play hot potato(I'm looking you, Memphis! lol)

Anywho, here's a list of companies done, and by done, I mean contracts, title histories and current champions:

-WWF

-NWA

-AWA

-AJPW

-AJW

-ASW(UK version)

-CWA(Memphis territory)

-PNW(Pacific Northwest)

-WCWA(World Class)

Later this evening, I'll take and post screen shots to give everyone a sneak preview. :)

Okie dokie, here goes:

Don't worry, I've given Marshmallow Man stats since taking this screen shot. And if you look to the left, you'll see all the other User Characters for this mod. Went totally 80s for this one. :D

Just because I was going to take a different approach to Lifestyles and Personalities doesn't mean I was going to go overboard, as evidenced below. :D

No mod based in the 80s would be complete without a reference to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City :D

Glad you like it, Smasher. :D

BTW, if anybody has a problem with any of the stats I have for Ax, Smash and Bret Hart, feel free to say so. :p I did wind up lowering Kerry Von Erich's stats a bit because the NWA would swoop him up from the get go, but that could also be his star quality as well, which probably really can't be helped. So I may just live with him signing with a bigger company on the outset.

Kerry was a very hot commodity at this time. He had big name value at this point and time. He was biggest name not working for WWF and NWA at this time. Ax stats should be higher Chain wrestling, Puroresu, Mat wrestling, sumbissions. Ax was good in all these stats I would rate him in the least 60's in all four categories. Because Ax was a cross between Bolo and Masked Superstar Alter Egos he had before. He wrestled extensively in Japan he was the one that brought the Machines gimmick after he saw Super Strong Machine doing the gimmick in Japan.

Thanks a bunch for the tips on Ax. And you're right on Kerry. After all, there is a reason the AWA/WCWA title unification bout was Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich and not Jerry Lawler vs. Al Perez. I think the only stat I really lowered for Kerry was his Psychology, because he did have a tendency to get lost in matches(though that seemed to be more drug related than anything, sadly).

Sorry, I know I'm not around much. Things are crazy.

For face/heel for the foreign promotions I dug around to find websites that had results from the era. I found some Mexican tour results that listed the matches color coded for face/heel.

It takes some time and I actually can't find the website right now, but I will look around for it for you.

With two alter egos yes, but three you be hard pressed to find anyone else with three different alter egos that the wrestler looked totally different and you couldn't tell it was him.</p>

And just a note, I gave Terry Gibbs and Dan Spivey contracts since according to Solie.org, they were working there(though I only gave Spivey a three months left since he was about to leave around this time anyway) so that there'd be a couple of more heels on the roster. Though I don't think even with that, there's any getting around the AI turning random babyfaces heel, so maybe I should just not add them? The only thing that I remember happening push-wise as a result was Demolition auto-pushing to Upper Midcard, but since they were about to win the WWF Tag Titles around this time anyway, I don't think that'd be too bad, but that's only my opinion and I'm not paid to think. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I've been working on going through all the workers I have in the database to make sure I don't have duplicates, and I got to wondering: Is there a purpose to having people such as Howard Finkel, Lilian Garcia, Tony Chimel, Justin Roberts, etc? Since we don't have the Backstage Personality push from TEW 2005 to assign to them, and since there's no Ring Announcer push, do they really serve a purpose other than smaller companies can scoop them up to fill a void if an announcer or color commentator dies? I could leave them in and leave it to the players to decide if they want them in or out of the database, but then do I give contracts to the Howard Finkels and Gary Michael Cappetas of the world?
