[C-Verse 97] [HGC/DaVE] Everybody Knows

Recommended Posts

<p>Prediction Key:</p><p>

<strong>Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis)</strong> vs. Spirit Warriors (Dark EAGLE & Golden Fox)</p><p>

<em>- It's squashin' time!</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Jason Jackson</strong> vs. Joel Bryant</p><p>

<em>- Perhaps a DQ win here due to the Untouchables' interference.</em> </p><p> </p><p>

Giant Redwood & Romeo Heartthrob vs. <strong>Monty Walker & Mr Lucha</strong></p><p>

<em>- Eeeeexcellent if Monty Burns, er....Walker and Mr. Lucha, despite their lower card status, beat the crap out of Giant Redwood. My dislike for Peter Valentine is only exceeded by my dislike for Redwood.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper)</strong> vs. Savage Fury (Java & Tribal Warrior)</p><p>

<em>- Okay, I was wrong in picking Joshuya and Ota as sleepers against the Ancient Flames. This time, I'm not going for the young guys.</em></p><p> </p><p>

HARDCORE MATCH</p><p>

The Insane Heat vs. <strong>Richie Pangrazzio Jr</strong> w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio</p><p>

<em>- Don't let his appearance deceive you. He's Hardcore! He's Hardcore!</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Untouchables (Paul Steadyfast & Robert Oxford) vs. <strong>The Vessey Brothers</strong> (Bryan & Larry) w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio (non-title)</p><p>

<em>- The Vesseys are too over to lose this one.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dread</strong> vs. Teddy Flame</p><p>

<em>- Okay, so this is probably where the seeds of discontent between Joey and Teddy are sown? Besides, Dread's way more over.</em></p>

<p><strong>Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis)</strong> vs. Spirit Warriors (Dark EAGLE & Golden Fox)</p><p>

<em>Not much question on this one.</em></p><p>

</p><p><strong>

Jason Jackson</strong> vs. Joel Bryant</p><p>

<em>Jackson seems to be feuding with Steadyfast and since Bryant is essentially underling Jackson should go over here.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Giant Redwood & Romeo Heartthrob vs. <strong>Monty Python & Mr Lucha</strong></p><p>

<em>I just can´t pick Redwood to win this one.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper)</strong> vs. Savage Fury (Java & Tribal Warrior)</p><p>

<em>Pretty much just personal preference as I know nothing about the overness levels on these four.</em></p><p> </p><p>

HARDCORE MATCH</p><p>

The Insane Heat vs. <strong>Richie Pangrazzio Jr w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio</strong></p><p>

<em>Richie continues his winning ways here.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Untouchables (Paul Steadyfast & Robert Oxford) vs.<strong> The Vessey Brothers (Bryan & Larry) w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio </strong>(non-title)</p><p>

<em>Untouchables don´t seem to be in tag title hunt curretly so I see little reason to put them over the tag champs.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dread</strong> vs. Teddy Flame</p><p>

<em>Not much question here, Dread is one of the big names while Teddy is still classified as tag guy.</em></p>

Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis) vs. Spirit Warriors (Dark EAGLE & Golden Fox)

- I wonder if the Spirits will live on in Hell? Time to find out.

Jason Jackson vs. Joel Bryant

- Uh... solo guy versus tag team dude. Maybe if it was Robert Oxford it would be closer, but Jackson just had an interview with Stallings!

Giant Redwood & Romeo Heartthrob vs. Monty Python & Mr Lucha

- Monty debuts the Walk Like a Python but Mr. Lucha botches it. Redthrob Heartwood for the win!

Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. Savage Fury (Java & Tribal Warrior)

- I think the BSC is around to teach the youngsters and do a lot of jobs.

HARDCORE MATCH

The Insane Heat vs. Richie Pangrazzio Jr w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio

- I find RPJ boring through and through and would love to see Heat win, but Ingrazzio has a storyline.

The Untouchables (Paul Steadyfast & Robert Oxford) vs. The Vessey Brothers (Bryan & Larry) w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio (non-title)

- Non-title so the Vesseys lose when some Demon or other interferes.

Dread vs. Teddy Flame

- Phhht. What's that sound? The sound of a Flame being snuffed out.

It's like you're mocking me, PS. Giving me what I need, but then taking it away before I can ingest it.</p><p> </p><p>

Also, I can't think of Dream Girl walking, as I have it in my head that she always has her leg up like that. <em>Always.</em></p>

Without wanting to sound harsh, it's 1997, not 2010.

Deal with it.

13 years of pain. 13 years of pain...

I assume Joey's going to make his own challenge next, then? It'd suck if he died or something and that was the real reason behind Teddy's challenge >_>

13 years of pain. 13 years of pain...

I assume Joey's going to make his own challenge next, then? It'd suck if he died or something and that was the real reason behind Teddy's challenge >_>

Let's see, this is week 4, so next is the PPV, so no.

Look, this isn't the PPPW story, where there was, in kayfabe, careful editing of snippets to provide one narrative, nor AQR, where there was, in kayfabe, only Horatio's POV to go on, nor POW, where there was only news sites to grok what's going on behind the scenes. This is a somewhat anarchic collection of shoot snippets. As such, sometimes people will be thinking about the wrong point in time having got things muddled. Sometimes people will be lying to make themselves look better. Or to make someone else look worse...

The bottom line to that is that I'm not going to be, outside the diary's kayfabe, explaining everything as I did in the others, because that would spoil the effect. I'm not going to answer this kind of question other than letting the diary do it for me, and I'm not going to set wild speculation right. Anything you read in this that isn't a show, or at least an easily fact-checkable piece of data if you were in the C-Verse (like Roy Stephens having a pinfall victory over Tommy Cornell, or Morgan's title reigns), and that isn't posted by me?

It's pure speculation. If you misremember and one of your, or Beeker's, or Oregano Jensen's, ideas of what's going to happen sticks in your head, then you're going to end up confused.

I don't think anyone's going to have any issues with that and I don't think anyone's going to read this as a ban on speculation, which it isn't, but it probably needs saying.

Sam Strong emerges, for the second week running, posing with the girls before heading down to meet his public and enter the ring with a mic.</p><p> </p><p>

“Dread,” he begins, “We're getting in a cage together, this Sunday. And brother, I can't wait. You and me, we're gonna go a round in the light, and where there's light, your shadow of fear stuff ain't going to work. </p><p> </p><p>

“So get ready, brother. No shadows. The Hollyweird spotlight. And enough steel to lock us both down. Enough steel to prove I deserve to wear the gold, brother.</p><p> </p><p>

The Powers of Hell vs. Spirit Warriors</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Surprisingly good effort from the Spirit Warriors, who turn being tossed around into something special, something showy, and bust out a few neat counters, with Fox at one point being suplexed by Nemesis and using his momentum to 'rana BLZ Bubb down.</p><p> </p><p>

It's a help, but it's not enough of a help. Dark EAGLE has no such answer to the Nemesis Arrow, and the Powers rack up another win, still undefeated.</p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;">Powers of Hell defeated Spirit Warriors</span></p><p>

Jason Jackson vs. Joel Bryant</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A fairly strong match between two people nobody's decided to care about yet. Joel and Jason deliver a pretty meat-and-potatoes match – solid with nothing spectacular – which ends when Jason breaks out the kneeling cloverleaf submission once again to get the victory.</p><p>

Rip Chord is shown on the big screen, skulking in the back.</p><p> </p><p>

“They're calling you the new Sam Strong, Liberty. And from where I sit, they're right and they're wrong.</p><p> </p><p>

“They think they're calling you the successor to the throne, the crown prince of professional wrestling. Someone with the heart and the talent and the courage and the power of Sam Strong. A second once-in-a-lifetime lightning strike to frustrate people like me and my old running buddy Sam Keith and a couple dozen others.</p><p> </p><p>

“They're wrong.</p><p> </p><p>

“But they're right, too. You are the new Sam Strong. You're another overmuscled hopeful who's learned enough to win matches, but not enough to win wars. See, Sam Strong and me, you gotta remember,” he taps his head, “you gotta remember, we had us a war. I beat Micky Starr, then Sam beat me, then I beat Sam, then Sam beat me, then I beat Sam...</p><p> </p><p>

“The war went years, my friend. Six or seven years. And then Sam fled to Japan. He surrendered. And I won that war... because Sam never got it all up here.” Another tap at his temple. “He's plenty good enough to beat the common wrestler. And so are you. But I'm no common wrestler. I'm not the only one here, neither – there's plenty of us a cut above. And you can beat us for a match, but you can't beat us in the war...</p><p> </p><p>

“We're fighting Sunday, Liberty. We've been fighting three months.</p><p> </p><p>

“When I beat you, Liberty, accept it's just as well. Take the loss and move on. Don't get in a war with me...</p><p> </p><p>

“Sam's smarter than he was when he was your age, and I can still run him out of town. You lost this match when I started thinking about it. You'll lose the war just as fast.</p><p> </p><p>

“We've both got better things to do.”</p><p> </p><p>

Giant Redwood & Romeo Heartthrob vs. Monty Walker & Mr Lucha</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

One of these workers is not like the others, one of these just doesn't belong...</p><p> </p><p>

Still, the other three drag Redwood to something fairly watchable, and he's even involved in the match's biggest moment – when Mr Lucha hoists him and hits the Master Drop, keeping eyes on Heartthrob throughout the move and the ensuing pin, sending a clear and distinct message.</p><p>

Black Serpent Cult vs. Savage Fury</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

A much better tag match ensues. Savage Fury rise to heights they'd never hitherto attained, but the veterans outwit them, with Viper ultimately hitting the Dragon's Breath on Java.</p><p> </p><p>

Cobra blocks Tribal Warrior as the pin's made, ensuring the Cult take home the victory.</p><p>

The Insane Heat vs. Richie Pangrazzio Jr w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

The contest is brutal. Jason Azaria plays the Heat up as “undefeated XFW champion,” and only laughs once when Kyle Rhodes asks “<em>Where?</em>” before going back to stressing his hardcore credentials. Karen Killer, alongside them both on the announce table, is coy about whether Charlie Homicide actually has anything to do with this, but seems to indicate not; she suggests that Pangrazzio has attracted the attention of “them” without ever defining that.</p><p> </p><p>

Richie wins – barely – by choking the Heat out using a kendo stick. But he's already taken one incredible beating.</p><p>

By now the sound of the Vesseys' <em>Got Me Under Pressure</em> is familiar to HollyWeird fans, and they're more than willing to cheer as it begins. The duo head to the ring, Larry wearing his belt around his waist, Bryan with his slung over a shoulder, Bryan slapping hands with fans, Larry simply walking with purpose, eyes locked solely on the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><a href="http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trenchcoatbrigand/media/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PaulSteadyfast_zps24fcbe23.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PaulSteadyfast_zps24fcbe23.jpg</span></a><a href="http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trenchcoatbrigand/media/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/RobertOxford_alt5_zpsfd717e73.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/RobertOxford_alt5_zpsfd717e73.jpg</span></a></div><p></p><p></p><p>

And then Faith No More's hit <em>King For A Day</em> begins to play, and Paul Steadyfast comes out with Robert Oxford – and Steadyfast has a mic.</p><p> </p><p>

“Coach P, are you willing to be a man of your word?”</p><p> </p><p>

The Vesseys look at their coach. All three look confused. With a smile and a half-bow, the ring announcer offers up his mic to Coach Pangrazzio in tribute.</p><p> </p><p>

“What d'ya mean, kid?”</p><p> </p><p>

“You've been talking about the problem with the Powers of Hell. About wanting to wrestle real teams. About... defending the title against... real teams.</p><p> </p><p>

“And there is no more respected master of the tag team than my friend here. Robert Oxford, the Tag Team Master... and me. Sure, I'm the leader of the Untouchables, but we're Untouchable because we respect each other.</p><p> </p><p>

“I'm the leader. He's the mentor.</p><p> </p><p>

“There is no realer team than a team with Robert Oxford. So... are you a man of your word?”</p><p> </p><p>

Coach Pangrazzio looks back at his clients, who watch him with cold deadpan expressions, giving no indication of their feelings.</p><p> </p><p>

Putting their trust in their coach.</p><p> </p><p>

Pangrazzio laughs. “Ya got moxie, boys. But you don't got gold.</p><p> </p><p>

“We'll give you a match for it, but you don't got gold.”</p><p> </p><p>

Realising the belts will be defended, the crowd's excitement cranks up.</p><p> </p><p>

The Vessey Brothers © w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio vs. The Untouchables</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

There's a veteran on each side and a youngster on each side, and there's Jason Jackson on the announce desk getting annoyed with Jason Azaria trying to guess why he has so many problems with the Untouchables.</p><p> </p><p>

And there's an amazing match going on. The Untouchables shine. They push Bryan to the limit. Oxford is outwrestled by Larry – but only barely, and only after a long hold-for-hold exchange. Joel blindsides Larry and Robert takes over and for a lengthy stretch, maybe the whole middle eight minutes, it looks like the Vesseys could absolutely lose the belt.</p><p> </p><p>

But they outlast, and they recover, and Bryan spills to the outside with Joel while suplexing him, leaving Robert vulnerable to the Sick Cycle, allowing Larry Vessey to pick up a win for his team.</p><p>

Dread vs. Teddy Flame</p></div><p></p><p></p><p>

Teddy Flame turns out to know how to wrestle without making tags. He turns out to have Dread scouted, to be quick with his kicks, and to have the raw adrenaline needed to kick out after a Dreadsault.</p><p> </p><p>

Which is an amazing thing, and bodes very well for Teddy Flame – but it turns out he is lacking one key skill involved in beating Dread, and that key skill is the ability to kick out after a <em>second</em> Dreadsault.</p><p> </p><p>

“Maybe the Flames could battle over the World Heavyweight Championship one day,” Kyle Rhodes remarks, only for Azaria to blow him off as saying something highly unlikely.</p><p>

Dread snatches the mic from the ring announcer before he's finished the post-match wrap up.</p><p> </p><p>

“Sneer,” he growls.</p><p> </p><p>

He faces back to the entranceway. “Get out here, Sneer.”</p><p> </p><p>

After a short pause, Shane Sneer emerges, mic in hand, and pauses well away from the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

“What do you want, Dread?” he asks.</p><p> </p><p>

“You interfered,” Dread grates.</p><p> </p><p>

Sneer shrugs. “I've got no dog in this fight, Dread.”</p><p> </p><p>

“Oh, you do,” Dread laughs. “When the moneymen ask you what happened to their investment in Sam Strong, and you have to tell them that he's had to retire permanently through injury...</p><p> </p><p>

“I think it was around the end of February,” the Hype says thoughtfully. “February? No, March – yeah, must have been March, because he was so pissed going in to Hollyweird – but that was when the tension went from notable to crazy.</p><p> </p><p>

“Dusty's brother Sid took the North American strap in the SWF, and I still figure that was mostly about the Eisens trying to stir up trouble in paradise.</p><p> </p><p>

“Nemesis had given us a big boost, and there were enough young unknowns on the roster that people were starting to talk about them as well as Rip and Sam and Dread – who I think hadn't worried him as much. Limited shelf life, you know? But if a next generation actually happens, then there's trouble. And RDJ and Liberty, they were grabbing attention. Mr Lucha had a good ten years left in his tank, potentially. Bubbling under you had a bunch of people who just needed seasoning. Anderson. Me. Steady. Jimmy Brandon – oh, no, wait, he started grabbing attention a bit later, when John Boy Tucker was done putting him through dev.</p><p> </p><p>

“Suddenly HGC could be a threat long-term, and the end result was the Eisens looking to destabilise. Everyone knew Dusty had problems with Sam, and pushing Sid when Dusty didn't yet even have a program threw that one into stark relief.</p><p> </p><p>

“So that sets off one of the bombs backstage. Plenty more fuses still burning, but we had some chaos we really didn't need going into a PPV. Sam nearly just forcibly tagged me to Dusty to get us both out of his hair, but Dusty didn't want to be associated with a porn star, so instead she ended up managing other people, to give a feud with the Untouchables when he worked out how to blow off the Jackson thing. Dusty ended up doing dark work. Dark work on PPV for, like, our fifth biggest name.</p><p> </p><p>

“The whole thing was a goddamn mess. I mean, Redwood had a title shot at a PPV we'd decided to push as one of the big ones, because he was buds with Dread. And he was <em>already</em> locker room poison as far as everyone else was concerned.”</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>–</p><p> </p><p>

<a href="http://s293.photobucket.com/user/trenchcoatbrigand/media/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PaulSteadyfast_zps24fcbe23.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/trenchcoatbrigand/Everybody%20Knows/HGC%20Guys/PaulSteadyfast_zps24fcbe23.jpg</span></a></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Paul Steadyfast chuckles. “I was very, very lucky, in that I wasn't a jobber but I was still in both tag and singles angles. Now, all that was a mistake – Sam knew Stallings had signed me personally, and he figured that made me a project. So he told Nemesis that, too, and both of 'em pushed me.</p><p> </p><p>

“But they did it in different ways. You look at the tag team booking, back then, and it's the big name teams that get angle time. The new teams, the unknowns, Nemesis just put them in matches. Little by little, they got more of the offence in those matches. Slow and steady.</p><p> </p><p>

“Sam just threw people into programs, no support, sink or swim. I assume he felt it was the quickest way to find out who knew how to swim and was worth sticking to. But from Nemesis we got feedback, and that rounded out advancement on the areas Bob Oxford wasn't much help with. And from Sam, we got a lot of time, and we got to work with Jason Jackson, then with some other veterans.</p><p> </p><p>

“I'll always be grateful for that. I mean, without that, I wouldn't be where I am today. And the Untouchables were something, while they were still a going concern. I don't regret a moment – but I know I got lucky.”</p>

Hollyweird is here to stay! THE pay-per-view event of the year is this Sunday, and what an event it's going to be. Let's take a look...</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Romeo Heartthrob</strong> is set to defend his <strong>Cruiserweight Championship</strong> against a game and determined <strong>Mr Lucha</strong>. Romeo could have taken Sam Strong to the limit just a couple of weeks ago if not for the seasoned luchador - but does that mean he can take down the Mexican 'ultimate hero' now?</p><p> </p><p>

Six-man tag action follows, as the entirety of <strong>The Untouchables</strong> stare down<strong> Jason Jackson and the One Percenters</strong>, with the experienced bikers having said they're willing to ride with him against these newcomers. This war isn't ending any time soon, folks!</p><p> </p><p>

Tag team action that could be considered a <strong>#1 contendership</strong> match is set up for after that, as the new arrivals in HGC, storied legends the <strong>Black Serpent Cult</strong> serve as a potential wall between the <strong>Powers of Hell</strong> and reigning champions the Vessey Brothers - or after tonight, will it be the Demons of Rage?</p><p> </p><p>

In hardcore action will the <strong>Hardcore Championship</strong> be defended. <strong>Charlie Homicide</strong> has been taunting <strong>Richie Pangrazzio Jr</strong> all month, as Richie simply keeps on beating down challenges on the way. Is that enough practice to dethrone the original innovator of hardcore?</p><p> </p><p>

Is <strong>Liberty</strong> the next Sam Strong? And what does that mean? That seems to be the core of <strong>Rip Chord</strong>'s issue with the young star, and perhaps this contest will be what decides it. Chord has experience and cunning aplenty, but Liberty has the crowd on his side...</p><p> </p><p>

The <strong>International Championship</strong> held by <strong>Monty Walker</strong> is also to be defended. His challenger? The massive and mighty <strong>Giant Redwood</strong>, looking to claim gold early in HGC history and make his claim to fame.</p><p> </p><p>

Next will be the defence of the <strong>HGC Tag Team Championships</strong>; the <strong>Vessey Brothers</strong> must take on challengers - and no strangers to gold themselves - the <strong>Demons of Rage</strong>, and this is going to be a tough challenge, perhaps the toughest in HGC. Will the Demons' fury lead them on to victory?</p><p> </p><p>

And in the main event, the ten pounds of gold - the <strong>HGC World Heavyweight Championship</strong> - is contested within the bonds of a <strong>Steel Cage Match</strong>. The ultimate hero <strong>Sam Strong</strong> must defend against the shadow of fear <strong>Dread</strong>, by order of Shane Sneer - and neither competitor seems happy with Sneer's interference.</p><p> </p><p>

HGC Cruiserweight Championship

Romeo Heartthrob © vs. Mr Lucha

- I enjoy the sleazy arrogance of Romeo far too much to have him lose the title at the PPV.

The Untouchables (Joel Bryant, Paul Steadyfast & Robert Oxford) vs. Jason Jackson & the One Percenters (Mayhem Midden & the Night Rider)

- The Untouchables seem to have a set of stories planned for them ,with Strong and Nemesis both pushing Steadyfast I think he picks up the win here.

The Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. The Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis)

- One of these teams has half of the Book. That team resides in Hell but is not a cult.

HGC Hardcore Championship - Hardcore Match

Charlie Homicide © w/ Karen Killer vs. Richie Pangrazzio Jr w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio

- I think Pangrazzio has more hard(core) lessons to learn before he can conquer the deviant desires of Charlie Homicide.

Liberty vs. Rip Chord

- Possibly the show stealing match. Liberty comes close, but Chord shows him why he is the smartest man on the Weird West coast. (He cheats!)

HGC International Championship

Monty Walker © vs. Giant Redwood

- Enjoy your PPV cash Redwood, enjoy the heavy lifting Monty.

HGC Tag Team Championships

The Vessey Brothers © (Bryan & Larry Vessey) w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio vs. The Demons of Rage (Demon Anger & Demon Spite)

- I think the Vesseys manage to retain.

HGC World Heavyweight Championship - Steel Cage Match

Sam Strong © vs. Dread

- I am fairly certain I'm wrong, but it seems it would be fun to have Everyman's Hero doing the chasing. Plus, the Sam Strong render makes me root against him.

Romeo Heartthrob © vs. Mr Lucha

Because when someone isn't a cruiserweight, giving them the cruiserweight belt is the only logical move.

The Untouchables (Joel Bryant, Paul Steadyfast & Robert Oxford) vs. Jason Jackson & the One Percenters (Mayhem Midden & the Night Rider)

And why not go for the genuine three-man unit.

The Black Serpent Cult (Cobra & Viper) vs. The Powers of Hell (BLZ Bubb & Nemesis)

Let's see this war drag out.

Kyle Rhodes – Jason Azaria

The show opens with a slick, hyper-professional video package showcasing the two biggest singles feuds of the moment.

“And one... by one... they all fell down,” Rip says, his voice pitched soft and low. “So there you go, Liberty... Rip Chord still has it.

"But you questioned me, Liberty, you questioned the talent of the master of the DDT.

“I'm going to run you down, Liberty. It should only take a month.”

“Rip, I stand by what I said. The best wrestler ever wouldn't've needed to cheat half so often as you have. Where you got what you seem to think I said from...” Liberty shrugs.

“Whatever, man. I don't care. See, I'm a wrestler, and you're a wrestler. And to me, that means it's easy enough to settle this one.

“You and me, end of the month.

“Don't ever mess with Texas.”

--

“I ain't lost a step,” Chord declares defiantly. “What you got wrong, Liberty, is typical Texas. You think it's in your hands, in your feet. Maybe I can't match you punch for punch, but I'm never going to have to. I'm never going to take as many hits when I fight you as you take from me.” He looks up again, staring directly into the nearest camera, and delivers the rest of his message to Liberty directly.

“Those aren't weapons. That's no gun. Those are bullets. The gun that fires them...” He raises his free hand, placing his index finger on his temple.

“Wrestling's never been about muscles. Not about suplexes. Not about how fast you run or how hard you punch.

“Before you step in the ring with me, I already beat you up here. I already loaded the gun, and at the bottom of the clip is a Rip Chord DDT with your name on it... and that's all she wrote.

“Wrestling is about the mind. I ain't lost a step, Liberty, and I never will.

“We're going to find a way to settle this, you and I. And I'm going to empty the clip.”

“I saw their Japanese match,” Azaria exults during last month's title defence. “Dread didn't kick out that time. Could the ultimate hero's heart finally have met its match in the shadow of fear?”

Strong tries for another Strong Arm Tactic, but Dread meets him square on with a jumping avalanche, leaving both men down for a long moment.

Dread goes to the turnbuckles so he can hit a second Dreadsault – but behind him -

“THE HEART OF A HERO STILL BEATS!”

As Sam runs through his usual post-match celebrations, the shadow of fear straightens behind him. He rolls his eyes, smirking, then delivers a belt shot to the back of Strong's head, interrupting the celebration with an impact. Strong turns, only to eat another belt shot, knocking him down and bloodying him. Dread drops the belt on his prone form.

--

“And if you're wondering how it is I'm promising this, well, I'm taking care of business around here now. I've been appointed to herd you rough-housing, chain-wrestling, high-flying cats and make sure we're loaded with the stars the fans want to see.” Shane Sneer grins.

“I figured I should deal with you first, Sam. You're the champion, after all.

“So if you keep the hearts and minds of those men, women and children watching us now, Sam, then for the first time ever, there's no reason we can't be friends.”

He nods. “But you are wrestling Dread, with the title on the line, at Hollyweird at the end of the month. And because after two weeks without messing with each other I expect you both to be frisky, we're going to put you in a steel cage.

“But you hold on to that belt, Sam, and you stay the cat with the cream so long as I'm doing the herding. Do we understand each other?”

--

“Dread – last week you saw I'll fight fire with fire, brother. And I'm gonna do it again, if you give me a reason, just as soon as you show up.

“You made your point, but you lost, brother, you lost. And you'll lose again. Ol' Sam lit fires himself before he dug down deep and found the heart and the power that comes with the people, brother. Ol' Sam lit a lot of fires. And ol' Sam will burn you, brother, like you never been burned before.”

--

Dread growls, “When the moneymen ask you what happened to their investment in Sam Strong, and you have to tell them that he's had to retire permanently through injury...

“That's going to hurt you, Sneer.

“Don't get in my way again.”

As the video ends, the HollyWeird Girls hit the ramp to dance to the PPV theme as it continues.

Romeo Heartthrob © vs. Mr Lucha

The match doesn't live up to the build – Heartthrob doesn't seem to care, just going through the motions, and the lucha libre flow Mr Lucha loves is consequently very stop-start.

Romeo tries to pull some funny business toward the end, only for Lucha to block a low blow, then retaliate with a Master Drop to secure the championship out of nowhere.

The Untouchables vs. Jason Jackson & the One Percenters

This one's kind of brutal; straightforward submission wrestling against rough-and-ready fist throwing, slams, and high-impact pain. And it's pretty close to even, until, eventually, Paul Steadyfast finds a counter; he blocks Mayhem Midden's piledriver, then double-legs Midden down and caps it off with a handful of tights to secure the pin. Jason Jackson springs into action...

...and Troy Tornado cuts him off with a flying forearm, soaring above Ryan Holland to prevent the pinfall.

A heck of a match really wakes the crowd up, as the two tag teams – big names all, but not known for tag work in this part of the world – tear into one another with a spectacular fury.

It's knock-down and drag-out, with all four men clearly feeling they have something to prove – but in the end, Bubb manages to stay upright, defying the double-lariat of the Cult, and slings Cobra over the top, allowing Nemesis to sneak up and drop Viper with the Nemesis Arrow to secure the win.

There's an upturned metal trashcan lid lying on the bare floorboards of the ruined house in which Charlie Homicide apparently makes himself at home. On that trashcan lid is a fire, blazing merrily away. A stick is held above it, hunks of raw meat impaled on the stick, browning slowly in the flames.

“The Insane Heat,” Charlie Homicide says, “was only the second, with Genghis Rahn the first. Rahn... fury, violence. Little subtlety. Little understanding. He has never needed them... except against you, Junior. I feel sure he will strike out at you again, for just that reason.

“The Insane Heat is an intelligent psychopath. You defeated him, and he will lash out, too, for that reason. He will never strike the same way twice.

“These men, Junior, do not come for you at my call. They do not lash out simply because I wish it. I cannot control them; they fight you again and again because you defeat them, and thus you control them, and thus they fear you, and war with you.

“And I defeat you, and thus I control you, and thus you fear me, and thus you war with me.

“I have no interest in these men, Junior. They are not mine. They are copycats. They will, I suspect, giftwrap their assaults for you.” He lifts the stick from the fire and bites into a morsel, blood running down his jaw, spilling onto his bare chest.

“In time, Junior, you will understand these men from the inside. And because of that, you will become a different man. Perhaps better, or worse. What is inside you will decide that.” Karen Killer runs a finger over Homicide's torso, collecting the blood onto it, then licks it clean.

“And all shall be well; and all manner of things shall be well.”

Pangrazzio isn't a cut-and-dried brawler, but he works very well in this kind of match, with this kind of opponent. The fans light up for this one, hungry for Homicide to be punished, grateful that Pangrazzio Jr is willing to take this kind of damage – showing a return to the business, a baptism in blood.

But for all that Richie comes close this time, it's Charlie Homicide who seals the deal, sandwiching Richie's head between two chairs and scoring with a legdrop.

Back to traditional wrestling, and the match that for almost a year would be described as proof Liberty was Sam Strong's heir apparent. Rip and Liberty never quite tell the story of a Sam Strong match, but they come close.

This is the prototype of a Liberty match, and where the ultimate hero is beaten down and battles back, the laidback avenger keeps in control, occasionally slipping when he doesn't take his opponent seriously enough. Against Rip Chord, that's a dangerous mistake, and one Chord eventually, a harried expression on his face, manages to capitalise on, catching Liberty in the nose with a knee and getting a very, very fast roll-up, winning from out of nowhere.

Rip Chord defeated Liberty

Rating: B

Rip rolls out of the ring and grabs the mic before the announcer can even start.

“You got something, kid,” he tells Liberty. Didn't see that before. That wasn't the fight I loaded up for...

“And that's why it didn't end with me pulling the trigger on the Rip Chord DDT. Nothin' nastier than that, so count your blessings.

“But you're like Sam.” He taps his temple. “You don't have it up here.

“Well, kid, after a match like that... I think we can do ourselves a little war. I loaded up for you – shame if I never pulled the trigger.

“You consider that DDT... postponed. An' nothin' more.”

Giant Redwood towers over Monty, which gives him an early advantage, but the Python evades the first burst of attacks, then takes to the skies – which doesn't stagger the big man as much as it might.

Which leads Monty to get vicious. What takes place in the last few minutes of the match is brutal, with twisting, torquing submission holds followed by a DDT that only works when Walker kicks off the top turnbuckle for extra leverage. Walker wraps in an unusual but brutal looking pin combo to pull off the win.

Monty Walker defeated Giant Redwood

Backstage, and Cowboy Ricky Dale is being part of the HollyWeird Experience for fans near the concession stall. He's seated at a table, arm-wrestling with an eight-year-old. The cheerful smile of wrestler and parent both indicate that only one person involved is taking this at all seriously.

A meaty hand reaches in and closes around the grip. Dale's lackadaisical force isn't ready for the sudden push and his hand is slammed to the mat, wrist clearly twisting awkwardly as it does so.

“Well,” Peter Valentine smirks, “isn't that just typical. Losin' to a boy young enough to sing in the choir... and on TV, too.

“Oh, and are you hurt?” he asks gleefully as Dale tests his wrist. “Did the widdle kiddy hurt the big bad pwofessional wwest- Whoa!”

He jumps back as Dale swings a punch. The blow never reaches Valentine; Charlie Thatcher catches the fist in one hand, smiling, and twists the already-injured wrist further in a direction it doesn't want to go.

Then Valentine delivers the Heart Punch, his face contorted into a selfish fury, and leaves with his enforcer.

The Vessey Brothers © w/ Coach Dick Pangrazzio vs. The Demons of Rage

“Now this is what tag team wrestling is all about!” Kyle Rhodes exults, early in the Demons' assault on the Vesseys, and Jason Azaria has to agree.

There's a lengthy spiel on how HGC is the only place in the world where tag team wrestling can be as important as singles wrestling, and while that goes on, Azaria just about manages to maintain play-by-play as these two teams test each other to the limits.

It's been Larry Vessey who's taken the lead in finishing these contests of late, but this time Bryan gets to it, slipping out of the Demon Slam to fell Anger with the Vessey Driver, allowing the Brothers to retain.

And then the steel cage begins to lower...

The Vessey Brothers defeated the Demons of Rage

Rating: B

The war begins.

Strong is outmatched early on, but manages to wrestle his way clear of a powerbomb, then, later, stuns everyone when he kips up to slam Dread off the turnbuckles before the shadow of fear can hit a Dreadsault.

And yet, the titan is up before the ultimate hero can make it out of the cage. Dread charges the cage wall, sending a shock through the steel that sees Strong crash back to the mat.

Again and again the two men try to put one another down for long enough to escape, and again and again, the shadow of fear rises fast, or “the heart of the ultimate hero still beats!”

Dread bellows in frustration, at the end, and then gets a grin on his face. He whips Sam into the corner nearest the door, batters him through the ropes, and then kicks him hard in the face. Strong smashes into the steel, and the padlock gives; the door flies open and Sam Strong spills to the outside.

The ultimate hero has won... so why is the shadow of fear laughing?

“It's not that there wasn't something there,” Stink says slowly. “It's that with them around, we moved down the pecking order in the tag division.</p><p> </p><p>

“The Nation has one dimension to it. We know that. At the time our big money was more likely to come from XFW main events. And that was fine – we took what we could get. But the changeover took the Flames away – and man, they made what we were like sixteen years ago look good, let alone anyone who worked their style – and it brought us a pair of angry, self-righteous annoyances with stroke backstage. Into April now, our fifth month of Hollyweird action, and things are still heating up.

The Nation of Filth do battle with tough guy bikers the One Percenters to begin the month in what's sure to be a hard-hitting brawl.

Frankie Future is a newcomer to HGC and he starts with a serious challenge - he's facing Richie Pangrazzio Jr. Will Future take advantage of Pangrazzio's Hardcore injuries?

Six-man action is the order of the day next showcasing the exciting high fliers of Hollyweird, as ordered by Shane Sneer. Mucha Lucha ally with Monty Walker to take on Rocky Constantino and the team of Joshuya & Ota.

And going into the end of the first hour, the World Heavyweight Championship will be defended as Sam Strong takes on Peter Valentine.

And after that the HollyWeird Girls are in in-ring action, with Ashley Amazon facing off against Kamikaze Kit.

Two tag teams with strong records collide next, as the Blazing Flames hit head-on with the Tag Team Specialists.

And following that, the Powers of Hell will be faced with the Human Arsenal and Ramon Paez, two young men with a lot to prove.

Dusty Streets has been quiet of late, but Romeo Heartthrob is set to go head to head with him. Heartthrob will be looking to get back on the winning side of the ledger...

And in the main event, two teams of four collide, with the Black Serpent Cult and the Vessey Brothers doing battle with the Demons of Rage, Charlie Homicide, and Rip Chord. Some of HollyWeird's very best will be in action!
