I've been retooling worker popularity today and debating where to set main eventers such Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant, etc. I have the WWF set at Cult, with their highest pops in New England and Tri State at 70, C+. I have Hogan, Piper and Andre 80(B) across all territories in the US and Canada(keeping in mind how over they got with national TV exposure thanks to the USA Network and syndication during that time period), which would still, combined with their skills, should still bring about good ratings and if booked correctly, final overall grades that would increase the WWF's popularity. Would this sound about right? I don't want their pop inflated too much, but I also don't want to take the chance of their destiny roll getting them stuck in the B area. Though I guess their high star quality would ensure that doesn't happen. My main reason for retooling pop is to try and keep workers from getting too popular to re-sign with everybody. I know that's going to happen as the game goes on. I just didn't want anything ridiculous like everybody in the game world too big for just about everybody.

I think 80s across US and Canada is perfect.

That's what I was thinking, and then having workers down the card having territorial pop would work out fine. I'm thinking maybe the WWF has some workers who have the same pop across the board in the US and Canada because of the TV coverage, then workers everywhere else has pop in their respective regions where their work was televised.

Second post on the first page(my reserved post) has been updated with a list of promotions. Green are ones that are completed, blue are ones being worked on, and red are ones not started. If I left out any promotions that were running as of January 1985 and are important enough to the game world, let me know and I'll add them to the list. As you can see, I finished the WWF and quite happy with the auto-pushes after adjusting popularity. There are a few guys who auto-push to Midcard that were mostly used as enhancement talent on television, but keep in mind some of the bigger names that the WWF used for the first WrestleMania have not been signed yet.

I believe I just thought of the reason I'm excited to see this mod come to light: Magnum TA. This is right after the famous I Quit match with Blanchard, and the world knew he was heading for greatness.... except the accident happened in late 86. But here, we can see just how far JCP could have gotten with Magnum in the position he was being groomed for.

It would have been nuts how different the wrestling could be if it weren't for his accident.</p>

I'm not talking about just dropping the belt and winning it back weeks later, but letting Magnum be THE guy. And knowing how picky Flair was about who he would let be THE go-to guy, that tells you right there what a star Magnum TA was on his way to being. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Speaking of guys who could have been bigger stars, while David Von Erich is already dead as of the starting point of this one, one guy who's still alive when this mod starts is Gino Hernandez. Such a gifted talker, and had the in-ring skills to match too. I seem to recall a lot of guys saying he could have been a Horsemen.</p>

<p>I'm usually only really into mods from the mid-90's and onwards, as thats when I really got into wrestling, but I am genuinely excited at the eventual release of this game.</p><p> </p><p>

I've only looked through your '88 mod, and I liked the balance, but I just don't have the feel for that era. I know '85 is the same era, but for some reason I find myself not being able to wait for this! The idea of being able to book from the first WrestleMania, or playing as JCP/NWA and running a Magnum/Flair program. Then the rise of guys like Sting, The Steiners, The Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs, the eventual debuts of Brian Pillman, Steve Austin.</p><p> </p><p>

Not to mention guys like Arn Anderson, Vader, Savage, Piper, and ofcourse Hulk Hogan at the height of his popularity.</p><p> </p><p>

Eddie Graham commited suicide in January 1985, after which the territory started really losing money, but they still gave Lex Luger his start in the business, so they should likely be added.</p>

I want to get the masses' opinion on this. I remember reading in Derek's mod-making guide that he prefers potential to be set to random, which of course makes each game different. Would you all want me to leave everyone's potential to random, or select a few yet to debut workers who did make a splash in real life and set their potential as such? Also, potential, decline, relevancy, and retirement ages. Would you all prefer I leave these at random, or set a few hard decline ages for certain workers so that we don't have Hulk Hogan hitting decline when Hulkamania is still going wild? I'm thinking of setting potential ages for certain workers, but again, the thoughts from the masses please.

I think random is good as I hold to the the moment you start the game becomes a parrell world, also why are you putting in fictional promotions? There are a so many actual companies that have opened and closed in the pas 30 years, that any fictional ones are kind of pointless and bloating. Just my thought, but I would prefer future real life promotions (TWA(ECW BEFORE ECW), TNA, ROH, OVW, etc., then vice and liberty city wrestling.

I was just listing the two fictional ones. The ones above that I listed, I wanted to put the focus on the ones who were already open. But if everybody wants the fictional ones not to be in, I won't put them in.</p>

I'm leaning toward setting most everything Random. I may put in a few hard decline ages, and list the workers who have said decline ages so that if people want to reset them to Random they can. It'll mostly be for the Hulk Hogans, Ric Flairs, Macho Mans, Stings and Terry Funks of the world.
