<p>Yeah, I wouldn't let IV put you off this. I liked 4 (it's the only game I have that can in anyway justify me buying a console I never play) but it was a bit grey and dull at times (especially free roaming offline) this one has a massive range of different environments and the three character have a different feel. I can't talk for the whole game since it might just be the novelty of the new game, but I've spoken to a few people who didn't like IV but are enjoying this one so far.</p><p> </p><p>

I do agree with how big it is, I'm sure I'll get used to it, and I did enjoy a long cycle in the hills the other day <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />, but it'll take a long time.</p>

I just hate when they either try to be too funny, too witty, or come off too desperate to prove their knowledge. It can be flat out annoying to read. I find that I read game reviews from certain people at this point for pure entertainment, not to judge a game for purchase. </p><p> </p><p> Games are so subjective. What makes gameplay fun? Is it story? Because I have friends that seem to think Halo is this generation's Shakespeare. Then I also have friends who skip the cutscenes entirely or don't even bother beating the single player campaign at all. It's too hard to pin down what is satisfying game play to the masses. People will forgive a lot of frustrations if there is something within the game they enjoy doing enough.</p>

I just think Niko had zero soul which didn't let gamers connect with him the way they did the previous characters. If you think it was by design, that's fine. I wouldn't even say that's wrong. I liked that with Niko, we had a bit of a deviation from the norm. European military guy from some unspecified Slavic state - That's usually the bad guy/background character/henchman/faceless goon. I guess I just liked the idea of seeing the 'world' from his point of view. </p><p> </p><p> I also don't think it's a coincidence that the major GTA character least accepted/loved by American GTA fans is the one that isn't American. It was a bold move by Rockstar - If I was making a triple A game or blockbuster movie, I'd definitely have an American guy in the lead role. But then that's part of what I like about Rockstar, their willingness to stick their middle finger up and convention and say "Y'know what? We're gonna to *this*, and it'll be awesome anyway.</p>

<p>GTA in it's primal state really is a giant slam against American pop culture to begin with. GTA 4 was by far the most overt with this stuff, but I think if you're a fan of the series you're willing to put your patriotism in the backseat a little. Whatever. </p><p> </p><p>

I just think you're completely off base by saying americans disliked GTA 4 in the first place. It's one of the most well reviewed and most purchased games of it's generation. It's a success by every standard imaginable. I think you're speaking for an awful lot of americans who would disagree with you but your opinion is yours I suppose.</p>

I personally liked Niko a lot, if only because he was different from what we've seen so much. Plus the perspective we got with him was great I thought, what with the whole reality of the American dream and everything. With Niko, I think we got a character and story that wouldn't normally be put into video games, and that's awesome. For a large chunk of players, though, I'm not sure that's what they wanted.

I've been trying to find time but only managed a couple of hours so far this week. From what I have done, I've enjoyed it. A few too many "chase & escape" missions at the beginning - 4 of the 6 missions I've done - but hoping they'll pick up as I play through. Really looking forward to the online mode in October. I'll probably give my more in depth for the 0 people who care what I think on it once I've put a few more hours in. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A couple points that have been discussed that I'll touch on.

1. GTA IV didn't do it for me, the main game that is, couldn't really get into it. GTA V has more than reignited my love for Grand Theft Auto.

2. Grove Street doesn't look like it used to because even though this is Los Santos it's in a slightly different universe then the pre-gen days. Think of it this way GTA IV and GTA V are one 'universe', and GTA3 thru San Andreas are another universe, and GTA 1 and 2 are a third universe. Timeline... what ever. anyway.

3. This game is absolutely addictive, if I wasn't a college student right now... I might be on the tail end of a 72 hour GTA V binge...

4. As I've said earlier I am currently not able to access all the features because my net at home needs to be paid but that's just a broke college guy's life. So BAWSAQ and Selfies will have to wait, but my one of my next playthroughs will involve that. By then GTA Online should be up and I will be playing this game in a whole new way.

5. The only con right now to me in this game is that Heists should of been a more featured gameplay rather than the low amount that is in it today. I'm guessing Heists might become a bigger thing online and all those formerly accessible buildings or buildings that look to be accessible are going to be part of GTA Online.

6. 63% ish done with the first playthrough of the main storyline and I still feel like there are plenty of things I haven't done yet, I haven't even ran into another character on the streets while playing as my active one. But I have decided my next playthrough strategy. Don't build the missions right away. I did rush into them a little bit, but still have been exploring. In my next playthrough I think I want to hold off on the missions and build some bank value before the first two characters lock up for a little bit, and see what a feasibly accessible bank account statement might be.

heists are def a huge ppart of GTA online as there are over 100 of them as last i read with more to added as time goes on. I cant wait I hope to be able to rob a few banks with the fine members of the TEW community *out of context that sounds so bad lol*. Any XBOX players wanna exchange gamertags ahead of the october 1st launch of online send me a pm.

<p>Meh. It's just not my type of game. I love free roaming though, but I'd rather play Skyrim again (but I'm waiting for a mod to release).</p><p> </p><p>

Did have some nice laughs though. Try to steal a bike from some punk kid, but nigga drew a gun at me stante pede and shot me in the face. Awtch. I quit after that.</p><p> </p><p>

Don't think I'll finish the game. Probably will sell it to my nephew before that. Just do some fun stuff, explore the features and call it a day and spend my time more productively (by playing TEW for example <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />).</p>

Been playing a bit of this tonight. My housemates have a PS3 (I don't own any consoles myself :() so usually when a big new game comes out the first few nights after we get it consist of them playing it (I live with my best friend and her husband) and then me doing the bits they fail at. :p

It usually works out quite well because she's good at racing games, so can usually do the racing. He... um... well he's completely ****ing useless. He's not really a 'gamer', he just likes the stories (he's the Microsoft One's target demographic :p). So whenever they get stuck, I take over for a bit.

Anyway, the game itself seems pretty amazing, and when the "new game" shine wears off and my mate gets bored I can see myself putting plenty of hours into it. :p

Not really loving Franklin though. He just seems a bit Niko in the character development department, and I have to wonder if it's really necessary to say "mother******" quite that much. :p But meh.

The gameplay itself has been really fun so far. Not sold on the writing yet though.

I kinda like the gimmicky smartphone aspect, too. The way that the smartphone features interact with the game in a noticeable way but aren't required or really all that 'helpful' is quite good. It seems to have been designed with the girlfriend of the archetypal GTA player in mind, and seems to work quite well. :p

Just hope the other characters are better than Franklin.

I hated Niko purely because there was no personality and nothing that made me think, "yeah I'd love to live his life" like I did with Tommy Vercetti. I connected with San Andreas' CJ because there were things I could connect to through the game that made it fun to play. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> Anyway, back to GTA V, I've finally had a few sessions playing it and I'm impressed with the map, and the planning stages of the missions as well as all the little details as well like not being able to get any traction in the rain on a hill start or scratching the paintwork on your vehicle. The characters are brilliant, Trevor who is by far one of the funniest (albeit deranged) characters I've played. It seems they have gone back to what made them great with a lot more humour than in GTA IV. There also appears to be more reward for doing jobs than in 4 as well which most of the time I asked "why am I even bothering with this mission". I haven't said that yet as most of the missions seem to build towards the overall story. I was a little pissed off as I've glitched out on 2 of the missions, Blitz where it appeared to have got stuck in a loop as after taking out all the snipers it kept saying there were snipers until finally I was killed by the never ending waves of ground Police and I Fought the Law... in which it said Mission Failed because the car got struck despite there being no vehicles near me and I was driving in the middle of the road! Those 2 things aside this is probably one of the better GTA games, although it will still take a miracle to beat GTA: Vice City for me because I loved that game.</p>

<p>OK Fliesch well, in context, I was merely discussing the cultures since it was brought up by BH. I wasn't going on some rant on Europe. If anything you're kind of proving my point in the first place. Maybe brits should talk about how BRITS feel about the game and americans can tell you guys how we felt. Instead of both sides generalizing about the other and being wrong.</p><p> </p><p>

On your GTA 5 point I agree 100% with what you said about the missions mattering. There were too many times in GTA 4 where Niko had to do some dumb odd job for very little reason. It felt rushed and thrown in to extend the gameplay time of the main mission chain. I feel like the writing is a little better this time around and I feel (generally speaking of course) a better sense of purpose when engaging in the main story missions. This game seems to have done "the little things" right in general.</p>

I've only had a chance to play a little at my brothers house, my copy of the game should be coming Wednesday (got it for £20 thanks to having £18 in club card points <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />).
