Small Questions Thread & "Living FAQ"

Fairly accurate. And it makes sense. How many people are going to want to pay for a subscription to watch something they aren't already a fan of? Its not a strong way to draw in new fans. It takes advantage of existing fans moreso.

And the WWE Network does (or at least did) function as a commercial network to an extent in some areas. When the WWE Network first launched here in Canada, it was only available on some cable carriers. When my cable carrier first started carrying it, they didn't offer the streaming service. The "$9.99 per month" got you a stand-alone WWE channel that showed 24 hour WWE programming, including the PPVs, NXT, etc. It took about two more years for the streaming version to be added. That was kind of a mixed situation and down to a whole host of reasons. But if the WWE had done that more widely and made their money from running more ads while being included in cable packages rather than as a stand-alone... that would have essentially been what the Commercial network in-game is. Both they launched their own subscription networks, both the WWE and UFC looked at buying existing channels to do that. So its not unthinkable.

I'd rather thought of it more like Mr. Ted Turner's role as owner of WCW. He owned Turner Networks and had access to commercial broadcasters as a result and purchased WCW to have an 'in-house' wrestling promotion to put on his networks and compete with WWE.

Keep strong is for making a worker still look god in loosing (useful for having a star loose to someone still not quite at their level or vice versa, having a lower tier wrestler loose to someone higher up but still look strong in defeat)

Protect is for hiding someone's flaws (time decline, injured, maybe someone with less then stellar skills.)

Here's another question. If you're the booker of a company can the owner go over your head and offer contracts?

I was going to let a performer's PPA contract expire, but as I went to the next day I had an email informing me he'd signed a new contract with my company. Glitch? Or did my boss step in?

Edit: I'm an idiot. My second email confirmed that indeed, my boss had stepped in and done this. Cool to know this can happen, though.

I think the above posts are spot on but I want to add how I think of those notes. Keep strong is a good note to use when you have someone losing and you don't want to deflate their popularity. So logically a good way to add to that would be have a finish that isn't "clean", tainted by cheating or interference, or d/q count out or draw. You can do it it with a decisive finish as well but I think a real life example of keep strong would be Goldberg vs Kevin Nash at Starrcade or Lesnar vs Bryan from Survivor Series for a clean example.

Protect is good for a worker who has poor stats, an injury, is in decline or whom you want to lose a little overness as possible. I think a good example of this would be Triple H vs Sting from Wrestlemania. Sting's offense was highlighted but basic and took a loss but still looked good.

I don't think it's worth it for boosting match ratings. I just use it for the very specific case I described earlier when I don't want the winner of a match to gain that much popularity from the victory.

Does someone know how the mechanics work to make AI companies create new television shows?

I've been fiddling around with "empty universes" (Effganic, MVP or my own) lately. And no company ever creates new TV shows, be it in the 50s or the 80s. Broadcaster requirements are not the problem. I can create TV shows without any problems. And the AI companies even have their events on TV, as well. They are also big enough to create TV shows (regional or cult) and rich enough (10 millions in the bank).

I even made the test and removed all default TV shows in the default database via the pre-game editor. Started a new game and within weeks all relevant AI companies had created new TV shows. Which also proves what Adam himself posted in this thread here - that they can.

So: What are the requirements?

Houseshows with a Brand Split:

Has anyone gotten a company large enough that you could run houseshows and then a brand split at the same time? How did it work? Did each brand run separate houseshows or were they concurrent? Did the roster work together? If not, was there a way to test chemistry between workers of a separate brand?

Is there some criteria by which alliance titles change hands? I've seen some really daft title changes that seem to make no sense so I'm wondering if alliance titles are treated differently than promotion level titles. For example:

Missy Masterson (popularity 97 in the area the show is held) loses an alliance title to Lioness Mushashibo (popularity 65 in the area the show is held).

Maribel Mercado (75 in North West) loses alliance title to Jessica Bunny (24 in North West).

Callisto (71 in Mid South) loses alliance title to Marie Punnen (30 in Mid South). With this one, I thought it might be age (the title is for 'Youngsters') but Callisto and Marie are both 19!

The only reason this bothers me is because I actually USE the titles whereas the AI does not. Even with the titles set to 'often' for TV and Events, when the AI controls titles, they're used sporadically (once every 8-10 weeks if they have TV, every 3-4 shows if they only run monthly). I have the alliance's world title currently on Alicia Strong (100 pop across the world except in British Isles where she's 97) with a hot storyline across three promotions and she's defended it 9 times in seven months. Seven of those defenses were on my shows (one was AAA and one was WTW, my developmental promotion). She defends it on every PPV for me but almost never for the alliance partners. (And money doesn't factor in since WTW is a developmental promotion (which means I pay their bills) and AAA has $15+ million in the bank).

Just curious as to how this works. I've never been able to get workers to drop alliance titles to people ridiculously less popular than they are but the AI is known to "cheat" so maybe alliance titles are treated differently when booked by the AI.
