Week 4, June 2001

Announced on WCW.com, three matches have been officially added to the Great American Bash pay-per-view event:

- WCW World Heavyweight Champion Booker T vs Eddy Guerrero

- Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon vs Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn

- WCW World Tag Team Champions Natural Born Thrillers vs Mark Jindrak & Mike Sanders

The remainder of the Great American Bash pay-per-view card is almost certain to be announced tonight. The late build is said to be a result of the three week turnaround between relaunching WCW and its first PPV, and the nature of the Radicalz invasion angle. As such, the Bash is trading largely on the novelty of the ‘new WCW’ brand.

After being sent home twice for showing up to work in no condition to perform, The Wall has been sent to rehab for drug addiction. Initial estimates are that he will be out for as long as six months.

Buff Bagwell’s ongoing behavioural issues and substance abuse have slowly turned the WCW locker room against him, and after a fight with Cash before the WCW Saturday Night tapings, he has exhausted management’s patience. Buff was jobbed out in a dark match at the tapings, with a furious Shane McMahon wanting to make an example out of him. Bagwell has also been suspended for a month. He was advertised to face a mystery opponent from the WWF on PPV, but will now be replaced.

WCW Saturday Night - Week 4, June 2001

Dark Matches:

Reno & Johnny the Bull beat Jason Jett & Cash (48)

Yoshihiro Tajiri beat Buff Bagwell (56)

Angle: Announcers run down the show (66)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Tenay_zpshgjwnj6s.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bobby%20Heenan_zpsxk75iyb9.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Arn%20Anderson_zpsduzj9bni.jpg

The commentators run down the card for the Great American Bash pay-per-view, including the newly announced matches. Tonight will see the contract signing for Booker vs Guerrero, with Eddy later fighting in the main-event against Kanyon. “Kanyon’s got to be wondering, am I facing one man tonight or am I facing three? Those Radicalz are like wolves, they hunt as a pack,” Heenan adds with a knowing smirk.

XXX & Christopher Daniels vs Air Raid & Jung Dragons - 8:00 (59)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Elix%20Skipper_zps7ael5m7v.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kid%20Romeo_zpszpshi4li.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Jamie%20Noble_zpsjfnva9tm.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Air%20Paris_zpsqeeueugl.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/AJ%20Styles_zpsmzruggpb.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Kaz%20Hayashi_zps768fz2pd.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Yun%20Yang_zpswvffbmnj.jpg

A spectacular Cruiserweight bout, with the newly-dubbed XXX showing impressive coordination. When all is said and done however, the Jung Dragons nail odd man out Daniels with a double superkick for the pinfall. Towards the end, Knoble appeared to hurt his back, and was helped out afterwards by medical staff.

Winner: Air Raid & Jung Dragons

Angle: Booker T & Eddy Guerrero contract signing (78)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpg

A table is set up in the ring, and Shane hypes the upcoming PPV main event. Booker signs his name, adding: “This Sunday, we do this mano e mano, you dig? No Radicalz, no tricks. If you beat me for this title, you better earn it, you better be the better man.” Guerrero sneers and signs his name, before flipping the table and walking away. “You worry about Sunday on Sunday, esse. I got a match tonight with el Cañón, you’ll see who the better man is.” In a first, the segment does not end with a brawl.

KroniK vs 3 Count - 5:00 (64)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Evan%20Karagias_zpsiamkvklt.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shannon%20Moore_zps2iykwdl6.jpg

A short and simple squash, with KroniK taking their time beating down both men, before finishing off Karagias with a double chokeslam. A dominant performance.

Winner: KroniK

Angle: KroniK ambushed (70)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Brian%20Adams_zps8txes64b.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Bryan%20Clark_zpsymprtd6l.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Miss%20Hancock_zpskrg1mfqy.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/David%20Flair_zpsxcp6wmxl.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shawn%20Stasiak_zpskrxrdwkr.jpg

As KroniK celebrate in the ring, Stacy Keibler wanders down to ring-side. She begins to dance on the ring-apron, distracting Adams & Clark as the Dynasty attack them from behind. They put the boots to both men, before fleeing as KroniK begin to recover.

Angle: Jindrak & Sanders promo (59)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Torrie%20Wilson_zps4ibdgl2t.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpg

New backstage interviewer Torrie Wilson is with Mark Jindrak and Mike Sanders. Jindrak looks imposing, whilst Sanders gloats: “O'Haire & Palumbo, they call themselves Natural Born Thrillers. This Sunday, they'll be Natural Born Losers! We're taking those titles, because my buddy Mark is unstoppable, and me? I’m Natural Born Above Average.”

Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs Lash LeRoux - 6:00 (56)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chavo%20Guerrero%20Jr_zpseehinxo8.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lash%20LeRoux_zpsl3xgf7yl.jpg

Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms is ring-side scouting both competitors, who he will face this Sunday along with Jason Jett. A pretty average match ends with Chavo hitting the Gory Bomb, and staring down Helms as he makes his way to the back.

Winner: Chavo Guerrero Jr.

Angle: Corino at Wit’s End (47)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Steve%20Corino_zpsygtipuas.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Daffney_zpsazzcbjza.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Crowbar_zps6tk65odi.jpg

Steve Corino is backstage with Crowbar and Daffney, looking mortified. “I can’t believe Shane is making us team -again- this week. Didn’t he see what happened last week? Agh!” Daffney turns her head to one side, asking “Don’t you like us, Stevie?” and letting out a shrill cackle. As Crowbar joins the mad laughter, Corino buries his face in both hands, distraught.

Hugh Morrus & Natural Born Thrillers vs Team Canada & Mark Jindrak w/ Mike Sanders - 10:00 (69)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Hugh%20Morrus_zpsmc2y7azt.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg

As the teams square off, Sanders proves a constant nuisance at ringside, tripping Palumbo and distracting referee Charles Robinson. The ref eventually ejects him, but he makes a fuss. As Robinson tries to drag him out by the arm, Awesome hits Morrus in the skull with the US title belt. The referee runs back in to count the pinfall.

Winner: Team Canada (Lance Storm & Mike Awesome) & Mark Jindrak

Angle: Team Canada in Shane’s Office (61)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Lance%20Storm_zpse9m2gxhf.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Awesome_zpsodanyixf.jpg

Lance Storm and Mike Awesome are backstage in Shane McMahon’s office demanding a US title match at the PPV. “Alright, alright,” Shane says, “but there’s only one title shot. Who gets it?” Storm produces a Canadian quarter from his tights: “Heads, it's mine. Tails, it’s yours.” Storm flips the coin, and Awesome scowls and walks off, obviously upset. Storm almost cracks a smile: “I have a match to get ready for this Sunday. Goodbye, Mr. McMahon.” As he leaves Shane’s office, the camera zooms in to show him turning the coin over in his hand — it’s double headed!

Angle: DDP & Kanyon promo (67)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg

DDP and Kanyon are talking backstage, in mid-conversation. DDP explains: “I respect that you want to do this by yourself, but if those Radicalz come out, just know I’ve got your back, man.” Kanyon nods and pats DDP on the shoulder. “I’ll be fine, buddy. After all, who better than Kanyon?”

Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn vs Crowbar & Steve Corino w/ Daffney - 16:00 (75)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Crowbar_zps6tk65odi.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Steve%20Corino_zpsygtipuas.jpg

The Radicalz dominate in the early part of the match, but Corino is eventually able to make the hot-tag to Crowbar, who runs wild on both men. Crowbar and Corino even hit a double-team hip-toss, which seemingly baffles Corino. In the end however, Crowbar is taken out outside by Saturn, and Corino is forced to submit in the Texas Cloverleaf.

Winner: Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn

Eddy Guerrero vs Kanyon - 20:00 (76)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg

A long, exciting match that ends when Guerrero hits the Three Amigos, before heading up top for a Frog Splash to secure the victory. The commentators seem surprised that there was no interference. “Is that it?” Heenan asks.

Winner: Eddy Guerrero

Angle: Show-closing brawl (76)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Eddy%20Guerrero_zpsdxzst5kp.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Dean%20Malenko_zpsxxurrxce.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Perry%20Saturn_zps4q1oq0yk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Diamond%20Dallas%20Page_zpsfca71kzu.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chris%20Kanyon_zps4weplurp.jpg

Guerrero offers a handshake to Kanyon, who hesitantly accepts — but it’s a ruse! Guerrero kicks Kanyon down low, before Malenko and Saturn finally sneak out of the crowd. The Radicalz triple-team Kanyon, hitting him with Total Elimination, before DDP runs out for the save. After hitting Saturn with a diamond-cutter, Guerrero and Malenko overwhelm him too, beating Page down.

“Can you dig it, Sucka?!” Booker T’s music hits and he rushes down to ring-side, clearing house on the Radicalz. Booker, DDP and a hurt Kanyon stand tall to end the show, but who will walk out victorious this Sunday at WCW Great American Bash…?

Show rating: 68

Comments: The Radicalz continue to be worth their weight in gold as ring generals, and their storyline remains the only one that has hooked WCW fans. Will it be enough to make a difference on pay-per-view?

Match of the Night: Eddy Guerrero vs Kanyon (76)

Honorable Mention: Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn vs Crowbar & Steve Corino (75)

Worst Match of the Night: Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs Lash LeRoux (56)

Just want to say thanks for the predictions so far, but for the people guessing a bunch of debuts in the Trios match, you might end up a little disappointed. :o

I'm going with the idea of about one debut per month, mostly from developmental (with RVD as the wild card, and maybe some ex-WCW alumni mixed in), along with my Rule 6 signings from the WWF (four of which I've already let slip: Tajiri, Guerrero, Malenko & Saturn, and another of which debuts on this PPV). So I'm pretty much stuck with what I have.

I appreciate it might be hard to get a handle on the full roster at the moment, but I'll be posting a title listing, roster synopsis and rule overview once the PPV is over, with the idea of updating it for every in-game month passed. Then it should be easy enough to figure out exactly where things are in regard to card positioning, heels/faces, tag teams and everything else.

Nonetheless, do keep the predictions coming! Thanks again.

Booker T - 2001 Eddy wasn't going to carry a company just yet; not like Booker can, anyways.

Malenko and Saturn - A big win for them keeps intrigue for the main event for the viewing audience.

NBT - You know that thing I said about Jindrak not long ago? Double it for O'Haire.

Hugh Morrus - I don't actually see any major titles changing, but I do think Awesome is heading for a face turn.

Shane Helms - Shane hasn't had much of a chance to show what he can do yet, so this will be a great win for him.

??? - Mystery wins.

Kidman/???/??? - A big win for Kidman to bring the belts back on PPV.

Kronik/Corino/Crowbar - The story with Corino and Crowbar has been some cute comedy, but with Kronik on their side I can't see them dropping this one.

1. Brian Adams

2. Jung Dragons

3. Raven

4. One title

5. DDP/Kanyon vs Dean/Saturn

6. Tag title match

Week 4, June 2001 (late update)

In a blow to the new XXX group, Jamie Knoble sustained a damaged spine at the Saturday Night tapings, and is on the shelf for around two months. It seems certain that he will be replaced in tonight’s WCW Cruiserweight Trios championship match.

Things have moved from bad to worse with Buff Bagwell, who was so upset at being jobbed out at the Saturday Night tapings that he has decided to sit out the rest of his contract at home. WCW management were so sick of Bagwell’s antics that they have instead released him from his deal, just over a month after it was signed.

Sources claim that Gene Okerlund has signed on to fill the backstage interviewer role that Scott Hudson performed poorly in, and that Torrie Wilson has been covering the last few weeks.

Each of these teams have had issues with their opponents the past few weeks, and Crowbar and Corino seem to have issues with each other! KroniK dominate early, before Corino tags in and both Dynasty and 3 Count have their way with him. Towards the end of the match, Daffney jumps to the apron to distract Moore, who actually seems to be quite into goth girls. As he makes bedroom eyes at Daffney, Moore is rolled up for the victory by Corino! Crowbar and Daffney run to his side, embracing him — and for once, he doesn’t look so unhappy.

Winner: KroniK, Crowbar & Steve Corino

Angle: Skipper and Romeo reveal new partner (27)

Torrie Wilson is with Elix Skipper & Kid Romeo, who talk about Jamie Knoble’s back injury. “Tragic, just tragic,” Skipper says. They unveil their replacement partner, who is none other than the eccentric Kwee Wee. “Guys! You were XXX! But now we’re… X… X… Y!” Skipper and Romeo look baffled, but assure Torrie that their victory is still assured. Terrible segment.

WCW Cruiserweight Trios Championship: XXY © vs Billy Kidman & Jung Dragons - 12:00 (61)

Team Klinefelter’s syndrome are opposed by Billy Kidman and his mystery two partners, the Jung Dragons! Kidman and the Dragons run wild, with a series of dazzling flips and dives. Kwee Wee is confused and messes up XXY’s previous perfectly-coordinated triple teams. Kidman hits the Shooting Star Press on Kwee Wee, and makes the cover — but Romeo pulls the referee from the ring, who has no choice but to disqualify him!

Winner: Still WCW Cruiserweight Trios Champions, XXY

The Dynasty and Stacy Keibler are walking backstage after their match, and are absolutely livid! Stacy takes off her high-heels and throws them down a corridor in blind rage. It seems like they didn’t take tonight’s loss well.

Angle: Shane introduces the WWF defector (71)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Shane%20McMahon_zpsywl3l26v.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mystery_zpsktzsf1is.jpg

Christopher Daniels is already in the ring. Shane McMahon comes out on the stage, noting to the crowd: “I -did- promise no title screw-jobs in the new WCW, and I -was- watching the end of that last match. I’ll make it right for Kidman and the Jung Dragons on the next Saturday Night.”

But there are more important matters right now… a new WCW signing who defected from Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation.” Shane looks very smug, soaking in the applause from the audience. “Thank you, you’re too kind. No, this -superstar- was unhappy with the way Vinny Mac ran things, so he’s come over here to greener pastures. It is my pleasure to introduce our latest signing…” The sound of birds squawking and grunge rock fills the arena, and out comes… Raven! He almost ignores Shane, looking a bit deranged and lost, before extending his arms outward proudly and shambling to the ring.

Raven vs Christopher Daniels - 8:00 (65)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Raven%204_zpsmnr2wxw3.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwvs_zpsxl49on5w.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Christopher%20Daniels_zpsp95iqwhj.jpg

A largely one-sided match, with Raven taking his time against Daniels. After some outside brawling, Daniels throws Raven into the guard rail and briefly takes over on offense, before Raven rallies and hits the Evenflow DDT. A convincing debut victory.

Winner: Raven

Angle: Radical Scheming (70)

The Radicalz are hanging out behind the arena, talking strategy for tonight. Torrie Wilson wanders over and asks: “Excuse me, I was wondering if I could get any comment on your game-plan for your matches tonight. Namely the WCW Championship match against Booker—“ Eddy waves her off condescendingly: “No comment, no comment, esse. You go walk that fine piece of culo elsewhere, Mamacita.”

WCW Cruiserweight Championship - Four Corners Match: Shane Helms © vs Jason Jett vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs Lash LeRoux - 10:00 (62)

After a few innovative multi-man spots, the match largely involves two men in the ring at a time, with the other two resting outside. The finish comes with a flurry of finishing manoeuvres: Chavo hits the Gory Bomb on LeRoux, then Jett nails Chavo with a Crash Landing release suplex that sends him tumbling to the outside! Finally, Helms spins Jett around and finishes him off with a Vertebreaker in the middle of the ring.

Winner: Still WCW Cruiserweight Champion, Shane Helms

Angle: Bad Blood (43)

Kidman is backstage brooding, when a jubilant Helms walks by and ends up taunting him. “If you were wondering, -this- is what a champion looks like, Billy.” Kidman springs into action and shoves Helms against the wall, and staff have to separate the two before they come to blows.

Angle: A Conspiracy Revealed (55)

Team Canada are in the ring, and Lance Storm vows to win the United States title and once again rename it the WCW Canadian Championship. Hugh Morrus interrupts, coming out on stage: “If I can be serious for a minute, there’s something I’d like to show the both of you… but especially big Mikey A!” Footage is shown on the TurnerTron of Storm inadvertently revealing his two-headed Canadian quarter to the camera! Disgusted, Awesome walks off to the back, leaving Storm without his back-up tonight.

WCW United States Championship: Hugh Morrus © vs Lance Storm - 16:00 (63)

Storm seems flustered without Awesome at ringside, with Morrus gaining an early advantage. Before long, the tide turns and Storm begins to work on Morrus’ left arm. Towards the end, he has the champ in an armbar, but Morrus lifts him high and breaks the hold with a power-bomb! One No Laughing Matter moonsault later, and Storm’s Canadian dream is over.

Winner: Still WCW United States Champion, Hugh Morrus

Angle: Pre-match Pep Talk (62)

Backstage, Kanyon is taping his ribs after the last show’s assault. DDP enters their locker room and gives him a pep-talk. “You’ve got to stay positive, Chris — stay motivated! Those Radicalz want to run roughshod all over WCW and tonight, we put ‘em in their place! BANG!”

Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn vs Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon - 24:00 (75)

In the early going, Malenko and Saturn isolate the hurt Kanyon, targeting his ribs with submission holds and gut-busters. At one point the match seems lost, with Kanyon stuck in the Rings of Saturn, but the wily DDP breaks it up. Kanyon finally makes the hot tag, and DDP cleans house before hitting Malenko with a Diamond Cutter! Three seconds later, DDP & Kanyon have handed the Radicalz their first pinfall loss in WCW.

Winner: Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon

Angle: Booker T promo (67)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Booker%20T_zpssx8il2jn.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Torrie%20Wilson_zps4ibdgl2t.jpg

Torrie Wilson is backstage with Booker T. She asks him about Guerrero’s pinfall victory two weeks ago, and whether Booker thinks tonight will be any different. “You damn skippy, hippy! He was the better man that night, but I know he ain’t a -badder- man than I am tonight, when I lay my gold on the line. Now can you dig that, SUCKAAA?!”

WCW World Tag Team Championship: Natural Born Thrillers © vs Mike Sanders & Mark Jindrak - 14:00 (59)

http://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Chuck%20Palumbo_zpsycvvshzr.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Sean%20OHaire_zpseth8qhqk.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/wcwnewtag_zpsqt466cq9.pnghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mike%20Sanders_zpszscal8ch.jpghttp://i1190.photobucket.com/albums/z459/kazkukat/WCW%202001/Mark%20Jindrak_zpsxcaxveef.jpg

This proves far from a scientific encounter, as both teams lay in clubbering strikes and slams. The match is even enough, but towards the end, referee Nick Patrick is accidentally clotheslined by Palumbo. Sanders thinks quickly and grabs a tag title to use as a weapon, but Palumbo catches him with a super kick instead! O’Haire squashes Sanders with a Seanton Bomb, as Patrick revives long enough to slowly count to three.

Winner: Still WCW World Tag Team Champions, Natural Born Thrillers

Angle: Booker T & Eddy Guerrero hype package (73)

WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Booker T © vs Eddy Guerrero - 28:00 (80)

The match starts slow, with both men feeling each other out. Eddy takes control early, working on Booker’s leg to try and take the Axe Kick away from him. In the closing stretches, they exchange dramatic near-falls, including Booker kicking out of the Frog Splash! An emotional Eddy goes up to the top for a second time, but Booker knocks him back to the canvas and delivers the Axe Kick, his leg giving out! He collapses on top of Eddy for the 1-2-3!

Winner: Still WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Booker T

As Eddy is helped to the back by officials, Booker lays in the ring as confetti falls from the ceiling. His girlfriend Paisley comes out to embrace him, and helps him to his feet. With Paisley’s support, Booker walks out under his power, and the show fades to black.

Feedback:

I'm going to take a couple of days' break until putting up the card for the next WCW Saturday Night, so in the meantime I'd love to hear any feedback from people who have been following along.

Let me know what you like, what you don't like, what I'm doing well, and what I could do better. This is my first diary after all, so it's a bit of a learning exercise for me too.

Thanks!

<p>You're doing well with this. Your results are crisp and easy to read through, I like the small backstage tidbits, and pictures all seem to be on point. I could possibly nitpick at a few things, but those would all fall under personal preference and have no bearing on what you're doing. One thing I will call out that I like is that when it came to a new TV show, you used WCW Saturday Night. There's just a tradition with SN that can get lost because people think of Nitro as "the" WCW show, when Saturday was the night for WCW for a lot longer than what Monday was.</p><p> </p><p>

Regardless, it's an enjoyable read so far, and while you are bringing in WWF guys, I like that you aren't just spamming in WWF and ECW guys. I really look forward to seeing what you do if this diary lasts until companies like ROH and TNA start. One question; are you running WCW as it's own company with a WWF working agreement, or are you playing the full WWF with WCW as a brand and not recapping those shows?</p>

I'm just surprised he lasted longer than the week he did in WWF at the time, where he:</p><p> - Stunk up the joint against Booker T, single-handedly killing the plans for a standalone WCW brand;</p><p> - Pissed off management by wearing his stupid hat to the ring when they expressly forbade it;</p><p> - Got into a fight backstage with Shane Helms, and rubbed multiple people the wrong way with his attitude;</p><p> - Faked an injury on his second night in because he already wanted time off.</p><p> </p><p> After getting the message that he was refusing to work, I couldn't really do anything but release him -- which is a shame, because I had him figured in long-term as a heel gatekeeper and possible title contender.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Beejus" data-cite="Beejus" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41628" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>One thing I will call out that I like is that when it came to a new TV show, you used WCW Saturday Night. There's just a tradition with SN that can get lost because people think of Nitro as "the" WCW show, when Saturday was the night for WCW for a lot longer than what Monday was.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> You're completely right, though in this case I'm also following the real-life precedent that WWF were in negotiations for an 11pm-1am ET Saturday slot with TNN. The possible names like "Hard-On Saturday Night" and "Late Night Appetite" were real contenders, and I have a bad feeling they might have gone with one of them. I'm a bit more old school though, and I think any new WCW would have benefited from exploiting a little nostalgia of whatever remaining audience from the wrasslin' days that they still had.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="41628" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>One question; are you running WCW as it's own company with a WWF working agreement, or are you playing the full WWF with WCW as a brand and not recapping those shows?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Since the real-life WCW would have been ran as just another wing of the wider WWFE business, I considered going with a full WWF/WCW company, making a WCW brand then just covering WCW in the diaries. But I'm running with WCW as its own separate company, a WWF working agreement and alliance, and the Rule 6 guys (who I decided ahead of time) already on the roster.</p><p> </p><p> I've also given myself access to WWF development, which is largely filled with a lot of trash and a couple of diamonds in the rough. The new WCW was supposed to feature more than a few developmental guys to pad out the roster -- Steve Bradley being an early name, possibly people like D'Lo and Henry who had been sent back down, and likely guys like Orton/Cena/Lesnar eventually. If that strikes you as a little unfair to WWF, don't worry -- they're helping themselves to all the free agents like Rey Mysterio and Dustin Rhodes, which will make things more than a little unfair for me when their real-life contracts expire and I can't bring them in immediately.</p><p> </p><p> Just running WCW has made this a lot easier -- one of the things that bogs me down in current day WWE mods is having to deal with four shows a week, which makes it really drag between PPVs. Just planning the one weekly show has greatly sped up the process for me.</p>

There's just a tradition with SN that can get lost because people think of Nitro as "the" WCW show, when Saturday was the night for WCW for a lot longer than what Monday was.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I kind of always feel weird about that myself. To me, Saturday nights feels much more a JCP thing than a WCW thing (probably because I'm a modern fan who only discovered WCW because I was a fan of guys like Booker T, Eddie Guerrero, etc... while they were on Smackdown). Consequently whenever I do a brand-split with WCW, it's always a WCW-NWA split with WCW Saturday Night getting renamed NWA Saturday Night. </p><p> </p><p> At the same time though I appreciate the continuity that WCW Saturday Night and WCW Worldwide have (the two oldest shows for JCP/WCW) that regardless of name-change I'd want to keep them around. Often if starting in 1998 I'll move Saturday Night to Thursdays and rename it Thunder to keep the legacy going instead of starting the extra two hours, while Worldwide goes from syndication to the Saturday Night slot.</p><p> </p><p> In regards the sixth man to come over from the WWF, I'm of a mind that it's possibly Ron Simmons. Ron is a former World Heavyweight Championship, his run in the APA wasn't gonna last forever and he could do some fine work in the middle of the card if you wanted him to.</p>

I hadn't actually considered Simmons, but he would certainly have had a helpful role as a midcard gatekeeper. Up until the end of my planning stage, Haku/Meng was amongst the six specifically for this purpose -- to terrorise the midcard and put over up and coming faces.</p>

If not Meng or Ron Simmons, then perhaps Stevie Richards could do the trick or Rikishi (though I hope not, I never really liked him).</p>

My guesses for the sixth man are more along the lines of a Big Show or Triple H. Benoit or Jericho seem too easy given that the other Radicalz are already there, so I'm betting that it'll be a big, big name like 3H in order to be a major contender for Booker and the World title. Or, perhaps blaustein decides to completely swerve us all by having it be Paul Heyman, come to WCW to lead a brand new Dangerous Alliance?!? The possibilities abound.

Not sure what the database looks like, but you've theoretically got two women's titles deactivated, and you could probably grab at least a few girls from Japan/Mexico. IIRC this was around the time Ayako Hamada and the Apache sisters were starting to break out, so that's three relatively talented internationals right there.

I'm really enjoying this. Keep it up, and don't change a thing with your writing style, the match descriptions are just perfect.

If I ever get around to doing another dynasty I'm going to try and emulate the way you write up matches, rather than the time-heavy style I've used in the past, which eventually saps away at your motivation.
