WCW - Saving The Legacy (2001)

Recommended Posts

Melissa would probably love it if you just went ahead and signed Jimmy Rave up too.

Kanyon vs Ernest Miller

Tag Tournament Round 2

Team Canada vs Jung Dragons

Air Raid vs Totally Buffed

I likely have these backwards, honestly. Unlikely both lightweight teams advance, but that was the third choice I actually wanted to go with the most. :p

I almost hate losing Bigelow any time, but it also kinda works out sometimes because it clears the way for a younger monster to tear things up in his absence. But he was always a favorite of mine, so hopefully after his time away he will be on top of things and can have a strong push.

Looks to me like the next Nitro is going to be very angle heavy, since only three matches are announced.

Kanyon vs Ernest Miller

As much as I don't like Miller, I'm guessing he gets some type of hear back here, even if it's a deliberate DQ or something

Tag Tournament Round 2

Team Canada vs Jung Dragons

Air Raid vs Totally Buffed

Alright, it's a stretch....but Team Canada have just had a shot so I don't see them winning the whole thing, a shock win for the Dragons sets them up for a huge underdog match next week with Totally Buffed....incidentally, its partner miss-communication that costs Team Canada the match

Dusty says he’s tired of fighting with Flair, He wants one more match, where nobody can interfere. Dusty calls down Dustin Rhodes and the Locker Room Leaders. Nitro opens tonight with Dusty Rhodes in the ring, behind a table (which has a contract on it) and a microphone in hand. Rhodes calls out WCW President Ric Flair, asking him to get to the ring and make things official at the Bash. With that, the music of Ric Flair hits and out he comes to the ring, alone and not with his usual accompaniment of Magnificent 7 members. Flair makes his way into the ring and stands on the opposite side of the table to Dusty. Flair says he is happy that Dusty was leaving WCW for good and that the company would be better off without him. Dusty says to Flair that he had hoped the past 20 years on the road battling each other might have brought them together with a mutual respect. Flair Laughs as Dusty carries on, saying that one way or another, After the Bash, it's all over between them. Dusty then signs the contract and reminds Flair that if his team wins, Flair cannot disrupt his life anymore. Flair says that should just pack his bags and kiss goodbye to his comfortable job in WCW. Flair signs the contract and says that when his Team of Jeff Jarrett, Animal and Rick Steiner wins, he wants to give Dusty a goodbye party before he goes. Flair says he will see his team mates in the ring later when he and Jarrett make mince meat of the “Locker Room Leaders”. Flair puts the microphone on the table and offers his hand to seal the deal, but before Dusty can grab his hand to shake, Flair pulls back his hand, runs it through his hair and exits the ring.

WCW Cruiserweight Championship

Rey Mysterio © vs Shane Helms

Following Rey’s win in a Fatal 4 Way at WCW Big Bang, Helms decided to cash in his rematch clause ahead of WCW Great American Bash’s “Cruiserweight Bash”. During the match the announcers talk about who might be entering the first ever Cruiserweight Bash, Schiavone says he has good inside knowledge that there is more than 1 former WCW Cruiserweight Champion returning to enter the match. In the ring Mysterio and Helms put on a great match which has the crowd locked into the battle. Both men get great spots of offense and show each other great respect as their friendship shows. The Finnish comes cleanly as Mysterio hits a splash from the top rope to pick up the win and retain his Title after a hard fought battle.

Hardwinder informs Flair that he has found out who are behind the recent attacks and that in the honor of keeping it open and transparent, he would reveal all in the ring, so nobody could dispute his findings. #1 Contender’s Tournament Final

Team Canada vs Totally Buffed

Back in the ring and in the finals of the Tag Team Championship Contenders Tournament, Team Canada and Totally Buffed are stood on opposite corners of the ring ready to battle it out for the shot at the gold. Almost immediately the tension between Storm and Awesome shows. As storm is in control in the ring, Awesome slaps the back of Storm to tag himself in. Although not having any accidents or miss timed moments, the underlying tension between the two has obviously been boiling backstage since the last edition of Nitro. The chemistry between the two plays a big part in their loss, as Bagwell hits a Blockbuster on Storm to pick up the victory and secure their shot at the Great American Bash at the WCW World Tag Team Championships

The assailant then drops the chair before looking up at the camera and turning around to walk away casually. Sting vs Mark Jindrak

Following on from the success of last week, Mark Jindrak has been places against the WCW US Champion as a punishment by the WCW President. Sting shakes the hand of Jindrak before the match as both men show great respect. Sting is by far the star in the match, but both men put on a great show, with Jindrak holding his own against arguably one of the greatest in WCW history. The Finnish comes cleanly for Sting, but after the match, Sting helps Jindrak to his feet in a sign of respect for a great battle.

Sting says he hopes to face him again sometime down the line, when he’s had more time in the ring. Sting then turns his attention to Shane Douglas, Sting says that he's heard enough talk from the Franchise and he would like to see him actually turn up and face him man to man, instead of just talking about how he's going to do things and not back them up. Bischoff asks both men to sit down before he then proceeds to berate them both about letting the attacker get out of hand and hijack WCW Monday Nitro. Bischoff says he can't trust Flair to handle it all by himself and appoints Jarrett as his Vice President. Bischoff gives Jarrett the job of focusing on finding the culprit and bringing them to justice while Flair gets back to running Nitro. Bischoff then says he will help with Extinguishing the burning pain in the heart of Nitro, but inviting all the possible attackers to come to Nitro Next Week. Flair asks who is that, before Bischoff says that it's all the men that they have done wrong since they came into power. Bischoff then names Booker T followed by Goldberg and Kevin Nash who the Magnificent 7 had screwed out of their positions in WCW.

Scott Steiner and Midajah tells Flair that Booker T was the man who attacked him last week

Backstage in the office of Ric Flair, Scott Steiner and Midajah walk in to the office to talk to Flair. Steiner tells Flair that he is sure it was Booker T as he got a glimpse of him last week as he took him out. He says that he attacked him before the show and then opened up Nitro and humiliated him, knowing full well that if he called him out, he couldn't appear as Booker had already taken him out. Flair asks Steiner if he is sure, to which Steiner nods. Flair then says that they will sort this once and for all tonight and earn brownie points from Mr Bischoff next week when they sort out the Culprit before Bischoff even has to step in. Flair then tells Steiner he has to head to the ring, but asks him not to go anywhere, because he will be back to discuss what the plan is next.

Booker T vs Rick Steiner

The match doesn't even make it to the ring before both men start brawling. Rick rushes Booker T as he enters the ring and proceeds to attack him in revenge for his brother last week, and the supposed attacks from Booker on the M7. Once the match makes it to the ring, Booker begins to mount an offense, and although the match is back and forth, Booker begins to control the match. Its with that that every member of the Magnificent 7 charges to the ring and causes the Referee to call the match off.

I voted for "what was next" as I really like that logo; hence why I use it in my WCW. Plus it was already all over the place before WCW even closed down, so it's a pretty easy transition were this a real life thing and you would have to deal with rebranding and all.
