Historian Posted October 3, 2019 Author Share Posted October 3, 2019 Two shows in and I felt that I was getting my feet under me. I had learned a few things. First, we needed a new top heel. With the loss of Jameson and Bouncer -- we were light at the top of the card on villains. Well, that was only partially true. We just needed Brody to get back from Japan. He had been on tour with BCG, which was good for him, but not for us since they run their monthly shows at the same time as us. His tour should be wrapped up before our next show, so having him back will be very valuable. I had placed a couple of phone calls out to some guys that I think could really help the top end of the card -- guys who could come in and work with the boss and Billy and some of the other hands that I think could be major players. I was confident that we would be able to make some special things happen. One of the things I did was call Larry Vessey and work out a couple show talent trade. I sent the 937lb Express to him for two shows and he sent me The Ring Generals. The Generals were the COTT World Tag Team Champions -- but I wasn't worried about that yet. What I liked about them was that they had been tag champions in Pittsburg and New York City and could bring some credibility to my already-credible tag division and they could help me hopefully move the needle a little bit. If we started occasionally bringing in workers from other places we could increase our visibility on and off the island. I was excited for what I had planned. I had a notebook full of plans for the next year. I was just hoping that injuries and other companies didn't throw a wrench in my plans. I looked at the lineup for FREEDOM of the City and I was really pleased. Brody would make his return to the Island teaming up with Handsome Stranger. One of the last things Stranger did before he gave up the book was set up a program between Puerto Rican Power and Billy Russel on one side and Brody and Stranger on the other. Brody reminds me of a real old school brawler. A real Wild Man Sullivan type. He could be big, big money for us. He's already been the People's Champion twice. He could be ready for a run with the Puerto Rican belt -- or at least a program against the boss for it. Messiah, who was probably not long for FCW because the boss didn't want any psychopaths to the roster and Messiah was definitely one of those in the ring, was getting into the ring with Ox. The Generals and the Puerto Rican Boys were going to clash. Xavi was on the card, as was Samoan Demolition and Joffy Laine. I was trying to get a lot of our young talent opportunities in front of the crowd. If everything went right -- this was going to be a show that was going to create a lot of noise. In fairness, I was the person who submitted Dem Boys to King Bison for the TITAN factory, so they have a soft spot in my heart (but not nepotism!) I like both guys, but they don't fit what I tend to hire. In The Climb, they were too pricey to be brought in at first and then just didn't fit the style of technical/brawling I wanted to go with. Unfortunately for Ace, Prometheus was in no mood for anything to be avenged and the 7’1” Finnish Flatliner completely owned the contest. He hit a God Chop on Ace Youngblood and Youngblood sold it like he got hit by a runaway train -- pun intended. They both have potential. Joffy is a 6’3” firestarter of a brawler that, despite being from Texas, doesn’t play a cowboy. With the brawl-heavy style I was looking to present here -- he would be very useful. Reynolds is a good all-around striker. He could develop into a quality heel for us if he can find his voice. This was an open match. I didn’t want either of them to dominate -- I wanted each to get to show their stuff. They exchanged some really stiff strikes -- and Laine really shone. Along with his partners in the Latino Kings, he has been integral to FCW. While Chavez is a former People’s Champion, he has mostly been the muscle of the other two. I want to change that. Boriken is a good young Puerto Rican luchador. Lucha Libre was not my forte and would not be heavily featured, but he fits and gives another native son on the roster. This match was structured to really let Jesus shine. Boriken took a few really big bumps that showed off Jesus’ strength and size. Chavez let Boriken get some offense in -- but didn’t take any full bumps. The hillbillies and my Samoans. Last month, I put Dem Boys over in their first match while Samoan Demolition did the favors. Now I wanted to see what these two teams -- both of whom I have high hopes for -- could do. There was natural chemistry there. Devil and Bobby Ray in particular really went at it. I got to work the ringisde and start to get some heat. The crowd still doesn’t really know me or know Demolition, but we started to get some heat. His debut was against Ox Mastadon -- where I needed him to do the favors and then tonight he had to do the favors for Xavi. I have plans for Molokai. He’s an energetic heavyweight. He can cut a promo. He can wrestle -- and he looked good working with Xavi. He had the size advantage, which let Xavi powder out. Marv and Dean are the epitome of tag team wrestling. I think they could lead a national revival on the importance of team wrestling. The Puerto Rican Boys are good patriotic babyfaces with San Juan taking the heat and Apollo making the hot tag. They worked perfectly in this match up. The Generals isolated San Juan and worked him over with some great double team moves including a wicked lifting neckbreaker that got a near fall. San Juan hit a dropkick and then made a diving tag to Island Boy Apollo. Apollo cleaned house and the Generals took great bumps for him. The crowd was really buzzing as Apollo laid shot after shot into the two Generals. He tagged back in Kid San Juan to set up for the Welcome to the Island move they use as a team, but Marv Statler dumped Island Boy Apollo out of the ring and Dean Waldorf rolled Kid San Juan up and had a handful of tights as the Generals shocked the audience by winning their third different territorial tag title.</p><p> </p><p> In a decent match, The Ring Generals defeated The Puerto Rican Boys in 14:42 when Dean Waldorf defeated Kid San Juan by pinfall with a handful of tights. Neither of them could really find their footing and the match was just off. The crowd was still into it -- especially because of the work of Carl Batch on the outside. I might have to give him a bigger role on the shows because he really worked the crowd into a frenzy. I probably let this match go on a little too long as well, but big Ox continued his run by getting a victory here.</p><p> </p><p> In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Ox Mastadon defeated Leper Messiah in 11:51 by pinfall with a Ten Ton Splash. They cursed and yelled and spit at Brody and Stranger, who really played into it. Brody stormed around the ring and went after a few fans -- who were legit terrified of the wild man. Power and Russell were firmly the favorites and showed some really good team strategy. Russell took the heat from Brody and Stranger. They beat the piss out of the former pro fighter. Brody hit him a running big boot that looked like it knocked him loopy. Every near fall just made the crowd louder and louder. The Champion got the tag and the people exploded as he knocked around Stranger and came to a staredown with Brody. After a few seconds of just staring at each other, they started to exchange blows with neither man backing down and the people really came unglued. Stranger jumped power from behind, which brought Russell back into the ring and Power pushed Brody -- and Brody accidentally knocked down Ryan Holland.</p><p> </p><p> Now was the time. He took the bell and smacked it into the side of Puerto Rican Power’s head. Blood began to flow immediately and the big man, the champ, fell out of the ring. This enraged the crowd and security was struggling to hold them back. Pete slid out of the ring as Brody hit another big boot on Billy Russell and Holland -- now on his feet -- made the count.</p><p> </p><p> In a bout that had fantastic heat and decent wrestling, Giant Brody and Handsome Stranger defeated Puerto Rican Power and Billy Russell in 18:37 when Giant Brody defeated Billy Russell by pinfall after hitting the Wicked Big Boot. It means your matches, at least to me are not predictable and therefore fun to follow.</p><p> </p><p> I like the Texas Pete here if he has cleaned up (hopefully you edited a rehab for him). If he hasn’t cleaned up, he can single handedly tear apart a locker room. I once booked him as a surprise entrant in a battle royal, that didn’t work out well for me. He competed completely wasted, injured 1 guy, and pissed off 10 others.
