Is anyone using 'advance booking give you a slight boost' in the preferences section for the SWF? I'm thinking of doing so but was wondering who may be doing it and if you like it.

I haven't used it yet but I probably will. I prebooked a lot in 2016, mostly for organization and to get it out of the way in advance, but if there's a boost involved, I'll use it just to help myself succeed.

It’s all about how you sell it. Jack would need to take cheap shots at the fans; regularly. Some fans will still cheer him but, in actions, he will show that he cares nothing for the fans.

The biggest conceptual challenge would be about your payoff. Jack is retired after losing a retirement match. That said, it would make it a hard sell for him to return for a match. Of course, some have come back after a retirement match but that depends on how iron-clad you want that to be.

Without a match, where would your payoff come from?

I see your point, but I look at it from the perspective of my golden era of wrestling - the late 1980s - where payoffs would be the beatdown of the manager (Heenan) after the match or a weasel suit match, which is just an extended beat down anyway. The manager would just use that for fuel in his next feud.

As it stands currently, 'Area Battle' preference is set to 'Stars' (meaning you are only looking at who has bigger stars in which to see who is winning the battle). That said, would it be more realistic to set it as 'combined' (focusing on stars AND show results for the month)? My thinking is, yes, it matters who your stars are but if you're booking them in crap then you're not really creating compelling TV (meaning that you're pulling your fans in).

What does everyone think?

I agree too! Going to do this in my SWF save

Man, I had an idea that I really liked that isn't going to work (at least not as I envisioned it). I was going to bring in Phil Vibert, purchase the DAVE Unified title and have it be defended under hardcore rules. Have my workers that have a high hardcore attribute vie for it, and use it to turn Steven Parker and give him a big push (Vibert was going to take Parker under his wing and make him more 'hardcore' and bloodthirsty). Until I was testing and realized that the SWF audience won't like hardcore matches. Oh well. I guess I could tweak it so it would be good for brawlers and have them fight 'wild brawl' matches.

I had plans to take the belt off Rocky Golden and put it on Scythe, as part of a larger Scythe push.

So I happen to look at the new merchandise section and what do I see ?

Rocky Golden is bringing in over $1,000,000 a month in merchandise sales. The next worker, Valiant, is barely over $50,000. Scythe is bringing in about $14,000.

Really cool variable to have to consider.

I would agree that booking is a little more complex this time around. My first show of 2020 came out to a 73 overall. When you look at what CANN wants, I'm pretty far off. I even had four of my bigger names in a tag match at the end of the night.

I fell victim to the "nothing interesting was happening during this segment" when I accidentally selected 'overness' versus 'fighting' at the end of the show. My final segment bombed despite having really over workers for that reason, I believe. I guess you live and you learn as you go through a new game! :)

Three ring circus match focus is a MASSIVE change, IMO. And the requirement for 5 hot storylines is kinda ouch. But looks fun!

I can totally see why someone would want to take the belt off of him from a story perspective but, strictly from a financial perspective, it may be best to keep the belt on him for longer. He's John Cena, in a way, for that reason.

Does taking the belt off him affect his merch? I see someone else on the thread is going to experiment from the in game perspective but from "real life" the "so over they don't need the belt, give it to someone who does" is a widely believed theory. I guess I'd have to go into the financials to see if taking the belt off Cena (but still using him as the featured player) affects his merch and if that difference transfers (or would transfer with other factors) to the champ. You could have two feature attractions, your champ and your icon.

Its also said the money is in the chase. Give Golden something to do beyond stay on top. A goal to shoot for. This could even lead to a different feud while the heel champ is building himself and his chaser / challenger as well.

Hopefully the game makes those viable possibilities (if done well)

What is everybody doing in terms of broadcasting/coverage? Makes sense to get on PPV in Mexico right away right?

I'm not sure what to do about creating your own network. It looks much cheaper to do one this year than 2020, but in order to get into more areas (Japan, UK, Europe, etc...), you have to run at a loss for awhile.

Any good strategies out there? I've noticed through a couple of playthroughs that putting TV shows on your network destroys your TV ratings, but CANN didn't seem to care since I got an 85.

Jesus, how do you book this? I've tried (a little) but can't seem to book a 70 show. You get smashed with "not enough interesting storylines". Once you turn off "strict storylines" it suddenly rises to 80, which is fine, or 83 when I change product settings to what it used to be.

I had Remo vs Mikey Lau as main event, which is kinda meh but should be suitable for TV.

If you need 5 hot ones and only 3 are hot, you NEED to boost the 2 others somehow by having main'ers come in. I don't like being forced into one general direction though. :( Or can I just make up a new storyline and will it immediately count?

I'm doing much better in my second playthrough where I added feuds for Crippler vs ZWB, Gilmore vs Atom Smasher and Morgan vs Starr (and the Rat Pack). All of those are without storylines at the outset but are considered stars (or at worst well-known). Put your top guys in storylines and your angles and matches will get better.

Yeah, make up new storylines. I used Robbie Wright/Emma Chase as one, and Brett Starr/Angry Gilmore as the other.

This is my first show, and how I experimented with it.

For your product, you're looking for around 35% angles on TV shows. Remember that can vary by 15% either way so anywhere between 20% and 50% is okay. Angles seem more variable this time around but pack enough in using your top guys and you should get at least 2 very good ones. (Regular focus, so best angle counts 70%, second best counts 20%.) At three ring circus for match focus, the match rating is the average of your main event and best two other matches - this is a massive change from previous games and will make it significantly more important to have a lot of good matches AND ongoing storylines to avoid matches being penalised for lack of an associated storyline.

Okay, let's try booking.

Rocky Golden and Mikey Lau over Brandon James and Scythe is going to be my main, Golden pinning James in an open match. This should help Lau step up, and boost his feud with James, and hopefully won't drag Scythe vs Rocky down TOO much. Going 18 minutes, as it needs to be 15 plus to avoid penalties for being shorter than fans expect. I'm going to build several angles around this one - a music video towards the start of the show, Rocky calling Scythe out early on, Scythe coming out later on and looking menacing while waiting for Golden to come out, only for James to jump him when he does, with Lau saving. Finally, post-match, I'll have Scythe attack James, who he sees as costing them the match.

For my semi-main, I'm booking Des Davids and Rogue vs Valiant and Lenny Brown, with Remo coming down and attacking both Rogue and Valiant to continue that feud. I'm hoping this will boost the Davids/Brown feud up to hot, basically. Post-match, there'll be a wild brawl between the three guys feuding, which I'm setting to 7 minutes although that may be way over the top. Pre-match, let's go for a 4 minute hype video for those three, and another for Davids/Brown.

With three-ring circus, I need three decent matches. I'm confident in my main, I'm not really confident in the semi-main, so let's go for an opener which should be guaranteed to be good - Spencer Spade vs Angry Gilmore. Gilmore may be past his best but he's still a great wrestler with stunning psychology and is very over. Spade has been the future for what seems like years for the SWF so it's great to see him finally start a game out of RIPW. Gilmore, a stalwart, is fine jobbing to Spade despite a 19 point pop difference; the older man is also a giving performer so I'm hoping he'll try and make Spencer look good. Booking this as an 11 minute all out for something different and hoping that the all out bonuses will outweight it's short length. I'm going to take advantage of being able to advance storylines with only one person involved in a segment to have Spade taunt Jungle Lord by using JL's finisher for the win. Adding in a couple of angles around it, I'm going to kick things off with Gilmore coming out to start the show off and saying that he feels he lost a step last year, but that 2020 is going to be his year, and have Spade interrupt him and challenge him right there and then. Post-match, Brett Starr will come out and taunt Angry for losing, saying it's time for the older man to retire, kicking that feud off.

I want one more match to get us to around 50% matches, 50% angles. (I'm significantly more confident about my guys pulling off great angles than great matches, which is why I'm trying to get pretty close to the highest angle ratio possible using that 15% leeway.) I love tag matches and teams with great experience, so let's use The Pain Alliance to put over rising stars The Dallas Cowboys in a 10 minute storytelling match, as I need one with that aim on the show. I'm going to throw in an angle a little after this match where the Alliance get backstage in a bad mood after the loss, see High Flyin' Hawaiian, accuse him of laughing at them, and attack him, to set up a match between the Alliance and Hawaiian Crush next week. 4 minutes, big guys rated on fighting and HFH on selling.

I want one more angle; I'm going for Robbie Wright coming out and trying to persuade Emma Chase he'd be the perfect client for her, only for her to say she's no longer interested in managing. This will set up a storyline between them in which he'll try to impress her and potentially she'll end up in his corner, or irritated enough to get another wrestler to go after him and get him to stop.

Pre-show is going to be loaded up with matches - Fame and Money over Faith and Old Glory, Randy Unleashed dominating Oliver Kobb, Awesomeness over Biggins/Parker (I have little use for Biggins mostly, but with the tag specialist attribute if I can find someone he has good chemistry with we could have a decent team), and I'll kick things off with Crippler dominating Ekuma. Part of me feels bad for jobbing the big guy out quite so badly to someone who's probably not got long left, but Ekuma's focus is the tag division and Crippler should be good enough to get one more run at the big time - I'm thinking a couple of months dominating the lower-card with fearsome submissions before being stopped by someone he can give the rub to.

Here goes.

Ekuma over Crippler gets 65. Both SQ bonuses, Ekuma charisma, announcing/colour/announcer experience/road agent bonuses which I won't mention all the time. Holding back/unable to use spinal-impact moves penalties which again I won't mention every time. Ekuma penalised for inconsistency and for stamina, Crippler for declining physical ability. Segment rating penalised for booking decisions, as expected for a squash.

Awesomeness beat Biggins/Parker, 68. (59 Parker, 47 Brett, 72 both Awesomeness members.) BOOM - the hoped for great chemistry between the faces. Everyone except Brett gets bonuses for charisma/SQ. Huey gets them for legendary gimmick and managerial help. Jefferson gets one for great gimmick and both Awesomeness members get them for momentum. Usual penalties plus Brett inconsistent. The Awesomeness get a tag team specialist bonus.

Randy over Oliver gets 60. (Randy 70, Kobb 53). Both get great gimmick bonuses, Randy for good momentum/SQ/charisma, Kobb for being amazing babyface and selling. Randy penalised for inconsistency.

Fame and Money over Faith and Old Glory 65. (Patriot 61, Faith 53, Trescarde 61, Huntingdon 65.) Everyone except Patriot got momentum/SQ/charisma bonuses, Monty/Patriot for legendary gimmicks, Paul for being an amazing heel, both teams for tag chemistry. Patriot and Huntingdon penalised for inconsistency but, interestingly, nobody for holding back.

Okay, main show

Gilmore/Spade argument gets 75. Bonuses to both for great gimmicks, Spade for decent improvising/good momentum/being an amazing heel. He also got one for managerial chemistry, but was penalised for being overwhelmed by his manager, while Angry improvised poorly.

Cut to Golden/Scythe vid, getting 78. Bonuses to both for good momentum and great gimmicks, and Rocky for being an amazing babyface. Limited due to being short. I head back to production where I yell at my team to redo the video of the three man feud to make it 5 minutes instead of 4.

Spade over Gilmore gets just 70. (Spade 61, Gilmore 74). Charisma/SQ/great gimmick/all out bonuses for both, along with one for being done to a hot crowd. Momentum/amazing heel/managerial chemistry for Spade, with selling for Angry. Spade (not the one I was worried about!) gets penalised for stamina, as well as being overwhelmed by manager. Lack of heat from storyline hurts the match too.

Rocky's challenge to Scythe gets 88! Tons of bonuses, good improvising/good momentum/great gimmick/amazing babyface/being done to very hot crowd. Limited for being short, though.

Davids/Brown vid gets 72, boosting that storyline. Both get great gimmicks bonuses, Des gets one for good momentum.

Scythe luring Golden out for James to attack and Lau saving gets 80. Everyone gets gimmick bonuses, James gets managerial chemistry bonus, everyone except James gets momentum bonuses. Bonus for being done to a very hot crowd.

Starr taunting Gilmore gets 84. (I switched to scripted after Gilmore struggled improvising earlier.) Great gimmick bonuses for both, plus Starr gets one for being an amazing heel, and for good momentum. Another very hot crowd bonus.

Cowboys over Alliance gets 58. (BSS 59, everyone else 60.) Everyone except Dillon gets charisma bonuses, everyone except Laramee gets SQ bonuses, faces for good momentum, chemistry and tag specialists, heels for tag experience, BSS for being an amazing heel. Heels penalised for declining physical ability and BSS for inconsistency. Segment gets bonus for very hot crowd but penalty for lack of storyline.

Robbie and Emma get 82! Robbie hits it out of the park with exceptional improvising, both get bonuses for being exceptional heels and for very good gimmicks. Very hot crowd bonus again.

Alliance attacking HFH gets 51. Bonuses for all 3 having very good gimmicks, BSS/HFH for being amazing heel/amazing face respectively.

5 minute triple threat feud hype vid gets just 60, despite bonuses for very hot crowd and storyline's high heat. Reminder to self that 5 minutes IS too long for a hype vid.

Des/Rogue vs Valiant/Lenny gets 70, dragged down by Lenny. (He got 62, Des 72, other two 75.) Everyone gets charisma/SQ/gimmick bonuses, everyone except Lenny gets momentum bonuses, Valiant gets babyface one. Very hot crowd bonus, but penalties for Des vs Lenny's storyline low heat, Valiant's managerial chemistry, Rogue's declining physical ability and type of finish.

Three way brawl angle gets 80, same bonuses/penalty for everyone as they had in the match, with Remo also getting them for good momentum/great gimmick.

Main gets 82. (Rocky 89, James 73, Scythe 72, Lau 73.) Everyone gets star quality bonuses, everyone except James gets momentum bonuses, Scythe/Rocky get charisma bonuses, faces both get gimmick bonuses, Rocky gets one for being an amazing babyface, and Scythe for hot new move. James gets one for managerial help, and another for managerial chemistry. Segment gets very hot crowd bonus, but is penalised for lack of selling.

Scythe attacking James gets 81, same bonuses as the appropriate ones they got in the match.

78 overall, losing us popularity in 11 regions but gaining in 8. Show appeared worse as broadcast quality is worse than at least one rival's. Okay, let's try that again, with minor changes.

I make a couple of minor changes - Angry/Spade goes from 11 to 8 minutes, the tag semi-main gets Robbie Wright and American Machine added to become a six-man, and the finish is changed to Wright getting a flash pinfall on Machine after Remo attacks Rogue and Valiant. The Chase/Wright angle gets moved to after the three-way brawl, with him hanging around ringside and trying to persuade her that this amazing victory means she should manage him.

Weirdly, the last pre-show match this time around has EVERYONE holding back, although it only drops from 65 to 64.

Gilmore/Spade argument up to 77 as they both improvise well.

Shorter Gilmore/Spade match is actually slightly worse, at 69. (Spade 60, Angry 74.)

Starr/Gilmore argument hits 86, with Angry improvising well but Brett doing it poorly. Angry drops a new catchphrase to pop the fans.

Six-man tag gets 72, Robbie getting 45 and Machine getting 51, with the others close to what they had before. Robbie gets charisma/SQ/amazing heel bonuses, Machine gets an SQ one.

Wow, no exceptional improvising from Robbie this time and it brings his segment with Emma down by a massive 14 points, to 68!

Main up to 84, but post-match angle down to 78, giving 77 overall rating.

Okay, I screwed up and didn't see if I could boost production...

Third time around, I stick with virtually the same card as 2nd time around, but add ZWB instead of American Machine to the semi-main to boost star power there, and change Spade/Gilmore's match to 9 minutes. This time, I remember to go to broadcast quality and boost to cutting edge.

Spade/Gilmore argument up to 80. Spade/Gilmore match now 69. (Spencer hit for inconsitency.)

Starr/Gilmore argument hits 89!!

Six-man tag hits 75, ZWB getting 73.

Main down to 79, hurt by James/Lau storyline's low heat.

80 overall, getting 'increased popularity in 13 regions'.

One more try, Spade is disappointing me and I want to try slotting someone else in to that spot to see how it goes...

Okay, I decide to have Spade challenge Gilmore, only to reveal he wasn't challenging him for himself - instead, he was acting on behalf of Primus Allen, who gets a menace-based cameo. Let's see how that works...

Spade/Gilmore/Primus 76

Primus over Gilmore 66, Primus inconsistent.

Starr/Gilmore down to 83.

Main up to 81.

79 overall, increasing pop in 13 regions.

Actually, one final try. Someone mentioned having good results from allowing spinal-impact moves. Let's go back to Spade/Gilmore but do that in that match and the last two...

Mostly little difference from third time around, but the James/Lau storyline doesn't get penalised for low heat, thanks to the angle to set up the tag match doing a little better, meaning main gets 84.

81 overall, increasing pop in 13 regions. Okay, that's me done.

What did we learn?

BOOST YOUR BROADCAST QUALITY!!

As in USPW, open things up with a strong segment to get the crowd hot.

Again, momentum is important.

Your angles can go longer than USPW, but make sure they're rated on active stuff - entertainment/fighting rather than solely passive - sex appeal/overness/menace.

Longer mains work here, with less worries about the crowd getting bored.
