General Gameplay Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know the impact pre-show angles & matches have on workers' pop & momentum? I have a lot of unknown young workers, but don't have a developmental company to send them to.

Using those workers in the preshow will hasten their development, allow you to control who gets pushed, and just overall give you more control. I hold a complete show in my preshows (complete with preshow/tertiary titles) and have since the preshow time was expanded. It's a great way to develop talent and gather information on prospects. In my current save, I'm at Medium with more than enough money to start and fully staff a developmental company but I haven't because my method works a bit better. (Plus, I want Lauren Easter to run it and her contract doesn't expire for another year)

Think about it. You have time available to book your prospects in angles and matches that have zero bearing on your main show. You can check for chemistry and develop popularity to the point where when you actually have use for someone, they come premade with the level of popularity that makes them useful immediately. This is assuming you're running your shows primarily from your home region (which I do, even at medium).

How important are win/loss stats in game can you build someone with a aweful record

I believe 'recent fortunes' are still a thing so if a person has a reputation for counting the lights, you may need to reverse those fortunes before they're easily pushable. Without the 'enhancement talent' and 'opener' pushes (which previously were used to make workers immune to those types of losses with regard to recent fortunes), I would guess that unimportant would be the equivalent. I know you don't get penalized for recognizable vs unimportant matches, which seems a parallel to lower midcarder vs opener/enhancement talent in TEW16.

EDIT: Speaking of, is it a safe assumption to correlate old push levels with perception like this:

Unimportant = Enhancement talent & Opener

Recognizable = Lower Midcarder

Well Known = Midcarder

Star = Upper Midcarder

Major Star = Main Eventer

Or is that an oversimplification?

If you're going to correlate them, then that's probably a fair correlation. Momentum affects things too - a Recognisable worker with really high momentum can 'count as' a Well Known one, etc.

I am wondering how lesser shows effect pop growth. I want to start doing spot shows to get my young guys more work. So I can build pop up in the regions I have no pop in. Should I just do regular events, or will lesser do enough? Can I use them to grow pop if I pull 20s in regions that have 0-3 pop basically?

That said, you'll have very few fans in attendance, regardless of if it's lesser or not, so it will grow very slowly. You also probably can't broadcast them anywhere since the grade would probably lower pop if seen in your home region so you'll likely be losing money even if you keep costs as low as possible, which is pretty easy since nobody complains about being left off.</p><p> </p><p> I used it to try and push 0 pop regions to 1 so they would start actually contributing to and gaining pop from my PPV events and it...sort of helped.</p>

Is it even possible to win against a rival bid?

I'm three years in now and lost literally every bidding duel (I've tried it 20-30 times). I even lost today when I offered 25.000/month exclusive written + 40% merchandise and 25.000 signing bonus while the rival bid whas only 10.000 10% merchandise and no signing bonus. I am the 3rd most popular league in the world and the other league is 10th position.

Is there any way to win against a rival bid if offering more than double is not enough?

How does the game decides which contract offer will be accepted?

I mentioned it in another thread but try giving them a per event bonus.. I've noticed lately that workers seem to greatly value those bonuses compared to everything else. . I've offered people tens of thousands of dollars in excess of the competition and they don't prefer my offer until I add the per event bonus. .

Yeah, I was just wondering the same thing. I've made some bids that were 30%-50% larger than what they accepted even though there didn't seem to be any loyalty/relationship reasons for them staying. The only people I've been able to sign from other companies are people they don't offer at all.

I think I actually offered per event bonus. And if I remember correctly the rival bid was without per event bonus.

Bull is right. This year's contract system in fubar with regards to numbers. Workers take inferior offers simply because they overvalue the event bonus. Here's my example (from the other thread Bull mentioned - click to expand):

http://i.imgur.com/aKvZnJhm.jpg

The worker took CWA's offer even though it's vastly inferior. The signing bonus alone is more than 10 times the total value of the other offer. As a manager pushing 40 years old, my offer gave straight up financial security all the way to probable retirement age. Prorate it and it's essentially $460,000 a year as a guaranteed minimum. Merch is icing. In sports terms, she gave CWA a massive hometown discount. I don't generally give out per event bonuses in contracts because I always give the entire roster a bonus after each event, depending on how well the show did. So she turned down a $10,000-$50,000 per event bonus.....for a $4242 per month (CWA doesn't run more than one event per month - I do).

Besides, it also is open to exploitation. If you can offer a worker a lower per month salary and just give them a big event bonus, how much do they earn if you don't use them on events?

But Bull is correct, that's exactly how it works. Match the event bonus and you're likely to win the bid.

I usually always offer more money and at least equal years depending on the worker involved and I've never had to go higher than equaling the counter offer event bonus to swing negotiations.</p>

Storylines have been freestyle for about ten years. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> No templates, heat is based almost entirely on how well the segments are rated.

General Thoughts

So I've been able to play TEW 2020 a bit now and I have a couple observations/questions.

*Really fun game! I am enjoying playing in as many different variations as possible to really try to figure out how to be successful. I want to note that I am overall very positive, so my bitchin below is meant with the best of intentions.

1. AI Autobooking for Events/TV Shows seems to be very poor.

-It can't correctly fill out an event time wise. For example, if I have a 3 hour event and use the Book Whole Show it almost never fills out the event even if I have plenty of unused talent that isn't fatigued that isn't doing anything.

-It seems to me using the auto book gives Event ratings that can be much lower than the automated competition events even if the workers are properly suited for the company product and are similarly rated.

Am I missing something here? It seems to me that you should be able to have the autobooker fill out the card correctly and in a generally good manner.

2. Types of gameplay. I know that this series has been out for many years now but I can't understand some of the limitations placed on the gameplay. It is great fun to run a company and book shows but why not be able to use it as a Worker? I understand that it would take some additional coding but the Workers, data, and so many aspects of the necessary programing are already going through the gameplay so I don't know why making it so you can play as only a worker instead of having to be required to run and book. Just have you choose at the start, then negotiate and make decisions as the arise from the Worker side of things. It would really open up the different ways you could play the game and also theoretically open up whole new potential buyers. It would literally double the gameplay possibilities.

Back on the topic of contracts

RLXDKlz.jpg

This is the deal I offered Remo compared to the one USPW made. . One thing to consider is that I have a 10 in negotiating, so that's probably playing a significant factor in this deal, but just wanted to throw it up as an example nonetheless. . Adding that event bonus and the extra year swung the deal from him considering both offers to only considering mine. .

Guys, I feel like this must have been asked already but a search of this thread doesn't seem to bring anything back.

So: Star Quality can increase without a size or body type change now. How does that work and how do you do it? Is it in the handbook somewhere, because I can't seem to find it there either?

Under the Handbook - Workers>Workers: Skills>Star Quality

They can see an increase throughout their career as they gain confidence but it cannot be learned like other stats.

As SAISHO's owner/booker I bought the Golden Canvas titles for a nostalgia show/tourney.

Can't seem to access them to use them...where do they go once purchased? How do I use them?

I think they default to being Inactive, so on the titles screen, you probably have to click on the Search button and set it to look for all titles, not just Active ones. Then I think they'll appear and you can modify them to be active.

(Note: I'm going from memory here and have not checked this to verify)
