Backstory/Information

First things first, for the sake of making my life a whole lot easier, this diary will operate as if COVID-19 ended overnight. Sure, it’s not exactly realistic, but replicating a pandemic in TEW is not possible. With that being said, all ongoing storylines in AEW will continue as if they would have happened regardless of the circumstances. Fyter Fest will go on as scheduled, which just so happens to be the first and second shows of July IRL, meaning that the save can start in July 2020 with no problems.

The schedule I will be employing is the one that AEW seems to be using for the foreseeable future: four annual pay-per-views and periodic special episodes of Dynamite (Bash at the Beach, Blood and Guts, etc.). I’m undecided on how events like Fight for the Fallen and future installments of Fyter Fest will be implemented. I’m currently thinking they will be TNT specials on Saturday nights, similar to how Saturday Night’s Main Event shows occurred.

For the format of this diary, I want it to be storyline-driven more than anything. AEW has unlimited potential with its stories right now, and I have some ideas that I believe will translate very well! Episodes of Dynamite will be recapped without many graphics to speak about, for the simple reason of not wanting to get burned out by spending too much time on each show. Special episodes of Dynamite will be much more in-depth, and the same goes for PPVs. I plan on doing previews of major shows, talking about the storylines going into them along with a prediction key and all that. Wrestling world updates should be fairly common as well.

Just to note for those who care, my original plan for the main storyline (actually was set to occur at the very beginning of the diary) revolved around an individual and his “villainous” invading group. After recent events, I went back and changed almost everything about my plans. There were also several planned TNT title matches that involved other individuals that I will no longer include. I say this to make it crystal clear that they will never be included in this diary.

Credits: Questlove and former authors for their absolutely amazing Real World Chronicles mod, it brings the game world alive. Hollywood (whose graphic prowess I envy) for his remarkable short-lived AEW diary that encouraged me to begin this. Texasrangers13 for his ROH run from which the “recap” style I will use is derived from. CGN91 for helping me with some of the boring stuff like formatting, basic ideas, stuff like that.

Night 1

AEW World Tag Team Championship: ‘Hangman’ Adam Page & Kenny Omega © vs. Best Friends --- This one I went back and forth on, ultimately I settled on Hangman/Omega win to eventually drop it to FTR and lead to a feud with Young Bucks... but that's just spit-balling thoughts.

AEW TNT Championship: Cody © (w/ Arn Anderson) vs. Jake Hager

AEW Women’s World Championship: Hikaru Shida © vs. Penelope Ford (w/ Kip Sabian) --- I like Penelope but Hikaru makes too much sense.

Private Party (w/ Matt Hardy) vs. Proud & Powerful --- I'm a fan of the fun gimmick for Private Party but PnP seem like the more badass version of them... fun NY Wrestling Scene bout.

Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) vs. MJF & Wardlow --- I've tried to get on the Luchasaurus train, even tried to see him live at an indy out west last summer (concussion cost him that one), but in the end I just can't get into it... MJF on the other hand... EASY.

Night 2

AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley © vs. Brian Cage --- Cage and Tazz are a fun pairing, but this is Mox. Eventually Cage might fit as more of a TNT title type guy, but this should help him overall.

Orange Cassidy vs. Chris Jericho --- I get wanting to boost Orange, but this one feels like Le Champion's.

FTR & The Young Bucks vs. Lucha Brothers & The Butcher and The Blade --- Big part of me things FTR costs Young Bucks and sets up a feud, and... with you mentioned the pandemic is "over" I'm thinking that Lucha Bros will have some other help in a certain bastard.

SCU vs. The Dark Order (Brodie Lee, Colt Cabana, Stu Grayson) ... Join Dark Order.

Lance Archer (w/ Jake Roberts) vs. Joey Janela (w/ Sonny Kiss) ... Murderhawk

Nyla Rose vs. TBA (Predictions Welcome) -- I'm gonna go with a returning Riho thought about some other women, Tessa, Priscilla, but ultimately Mayu Iwatani or Riho were my thoughts.

Looks really great, looking forward to this. Definitely support the decision to rethink the villainous stable (though I'd be down to see Flip and Brody in the future). As for the TNT title, it'll still be fun way to introduce talent. I enjoyed Ricky Starks NWA time, but he looked like a star when he faced Cody.

YOU ALREADY KNOW I’M HERE FOR THIS, AMIGO

Hangman & Omega (swerve ain’t coming just yet, I’m guessing)

Cody (never will be a Hager fan, plus I think Cody will put over a brighter prospect whenever he drops the belt)

Shida (apologies to Penelope, who I love)

Proud & Powerful (to give the Inner Circle some momentum again)

MJF & Wardlow (keep MJF rolling)

Mox (easy)

Orange (of course I’m picking this way)

Lucha Bros & Butcher + Blade (I like the aforementioned idea that PAC will help out and FTR & Bucks can feud here)

Dark Order (you gonna roll with the other new recruit in Dark Order, too?)

Archer (even though I hope you push my boy Joey soon)

TBA (Thunder Rosa)

looking forward to coming in dead last here

This looks really good Dalton. Good luck with it.

Night 1

AEW World Tag Team Championship: ‘Hangman’ Adam Page & Kenny Omega © vs. Best Friends

I want it to be Best Friends, I really do. Champs retain.

AEW TNT Championship: Cody © (w/ Arn Anderson) vs. Jake Hager

Cody edges it.

AEW Women’s World Championship: Hikaru Shida © vs. Penelope Ford (w/ Kip Sabian)

I like both these but I think it's too soon for Penelope.

Private Party (w/ Matt Hardy) vs. Proud & Powerful

Both teams are great but Santos and Ortiz are another level.

Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) vs. MJF & Wardlow

I want it to be Jurassic Express but it doesn't make sense for MJF to get beat here, IMO.

Night 2

AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley © vs. Brian Cage

I've never been less interested in a hyped debut than Brian Cage. I just... there's nothing there.

Orange Cassidy vs. Chris Jericho

This is money. Could go either way but I hope you (and AEW IRL) drag the feud out a little. It needs either Cassidy getting a surprise win against the odds or Jericho winning unsatisfyingly and Cassidy challenging him again. I'll go for the former.

FTR & The Young Bucks vs. Lucha Brothers & The Butcher and The Blade

Cool looking match. There's a bit of hype around FTR at the moment, so them.

SCU vs. The Dark Order (Brodie Lee, Colt Cabana, Stu Grayson)

Yeah, Dark ORder need to start getting some victories to be taken seriously and for some reason SCU have gone from tag champs to jobbers.

Lance Archer (w/ Jake Roberts) vs. Joey Janela (w/ Sonny Kiss)

Hmmm. Hard one to call this.

Nyla Rose vs. TBA (I have no idea)

Nyla all the way.

Wow! Thank you all for the kind words and for participating! I haven't even posted a show yet and I already got more predictions than in my only other try at a diary :D 11 predictions in less than 24 hours is awesome.

I already have both nights of Fyter Fest completed, typed up, formatted and ready to go. I'll post the first night either later tonight or tomorrow morning New York time.

I'm really excited for this, I have the next two PPV cycles planned out almost entirely. AEW is built for long term storytelling, which I am a complete sucker for!

Seriously thank you all! I encourage everyone to participate, whether it be through predictions, criticism, ideas, anything!

I will see you all in a little bit when Fyter Fest is posted! :)

The match was even throughout, with Penelope really only taking the momentum when Sabian would grab at the foot of the champion or hop on the apron to distract the referee. The last time Sabian distracted the ref, Ford went for a baseball-style swing with a kendo stick, but Shida ducked and kicked out the legs of her opponent. MJF’s old-school psychology, Jungle Boy’s modern underdog aerial attacks, Wardlow’s powerhouse maneuvers, and Luchasaurus’ combination of strength and kicks. MJF and Jungle Boy, a rivalry that will certainly dominate their careers for the next fifteen years, built upon their Double or Nothing match here, while their two larger teammates duked it out in order to protect them. MJF used a series of underhanded tactics, including hitting Jungle Boy with the dreaded Dynamite Diamond Ring! With his rival out of the contest, MJF was able to roll up Luchasaurus while keeping his feet on the ropes for quite the tainted victory! Using his mixed martial arts and amateur wrestling background to keep Cody at bay, Jake kept Cody down for the majority of the first half of the contest. Cody’s own amateur wrestling skills came in handy here as well, as he was able to eventually outwrestle the larger opponent by using his speed to his advantage. Cody ducked a clothesline, leading to Hager knocking out the referee. With the official down, </span></span><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Santana</strong></span></span><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:12px;"> and </span></span><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>Ortiz </strong></span></span><span style="font-family:'Lucida Sans Unicode';"><span style="font-size:12px;">sprinted to the ring to take down the champion! Cody grabbed his weight belt and wacked Hager across the back three times before throwing it into the crowd! Moments later, Cody hit a Bionic Elbow followed by TWO Cross Rhodes, leading to a revived referee counting the 1-2-3! Hell, Page has even gotten along with Matt Jackson. Since the Stadium Stampede, the champs have been riding high, with their synergy and teamwork taking over when it matters most. This was no different tonight, with the champs ending the hot streak of Best Friends. The finish came when the defending duo hit their Last Call (Buckshot Lariat/V-Trigger combo) on Chuck Taylor, allowing Page to pin him clean. Niiiiiice. Really good show. Authentic. And I'm 100% in my predictions.

Bring on Night Two!

Bravo sir! Thanks for the kind words. I try to stay as realistic as possible with everything I do. AEW is a great product and I don't want to fix something that ain't broke ;)

Ahhh i was 30 mins too slow for predictions! I would've got 100% honestly lol.

Good show! here's my night 2 predictions anyway...

That's okay! I think a lot of people got 100% lol. Thanks for joining and predicting!

Speaking of predictions, I figure I should make this announcement:

PREDICTION CONTEST

So as you all know, AEW runs four PPVs a year. That is perfect to do 'quarterly' prediction contests! I will keep a running tally for all those who participate to see who has the highest overall percentage of correct guesses, and the winner (probably top 3...) will receive a prize that should have a decent impact on the diary. There will also be a smaller prize for the one(s) who participates the most. Further details will be posted soon!

Once again, I appreciate the feedback and look forward to continuing with some strong shows!

Welcome fans to Night Two of Fyter Fest! We start with a three-minute recap of the events of last week, three title matches in which ALL of the champions retained! Cody took down Jake Hager, Hikaru Shida defeated Penelope Ford, and Page & Omega retained against Best Friends. We also had MJF and Wardlow defeat Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, and Proud & Powerful defeat Private Party.

Tonight, we have a series of incredible matches scheduled. Jon Moxley defends his AEW World Championship against Brian Cage, Chris Jericho taking on ‘Freshly Squeezed’ Orange Cassidy, and eight-man tag team match with FTR and The Young Bucks versus Lucha Brothers and The Butcher & The Blade, The Dark Order taking on SCU, Nyla Rose versus a mystery opponent, and to start us off we have Joey Janela and Lance Archer! What an incredible lineup!

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

1. Lance Archer def. Joey Janela – The Murderhawk Monster came into Fyter Fest with one goal: to destroy. And destroy he did, as he took down Joey Janela. Janela had some flashes of hope here, but Archer was able to cut down his momentum almost at will. The intimidating presence of Jake Roberts and his dreaded SNAKE kept Sonny Kiss away and out of the equation. One Black Out later and Janela was toast. (65)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

Backstage, Dasha Gonzalez and a cameraman are looking for Mr. Brodie Lee and Colt Cabana but can’t seem to locate them. After walking down a hallway, the cameraman peers into a dimly lit room to see the two. Mr. Brodie is holding a Dark Order mask, and Cabana is seen taking it from him and looking at it. Mr. Brodie turned around to see the cameraman, and so he slowly walked over and closed the door. (60)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

Nyla Rose comes to the ring in preparation for her match against a mystery opponent. The Native Beast scared away Justin Roberts and snagged the mic from him. She spoke on being a former AEW World Women’s champion, and her desire to once again hold the gold. Her mystery opponent tonight will be no match for her, because she is The Native Beast, and she is unstoppable!

Much to her chagrin, her opponent is revealed to be Riho! The returning joshi superstar was the first ever AEW World Women’s champion and has been MIA for some time now! She walked down to the ring with a big smile, as Nyla Rose seems to now know what she has gotten herself into. (45)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

2. Riho def. Nyla Rose – Riho’s return to All Elite Wrestling started off on fire as she toppled the Native Beast! The match lasted around eight minutes but ended very abruptly after Riho reversed a powerbomb into a hurricanrana and cradle for the victory! Despite Rose being in control for most of the match, Riho’s insane athleticism proved to be the difference maker! (51)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

We cut backstage to a locker room with FTR and The Young Bucks. The two teams were bickering while discussing strategy, with the Bucks saying the only way to defeat their opponents tonight is to use their aerial prowess. The only way to beat the Lucha Bros is to match them move for move, according to Matt Jackson. Dax Harwood countered this by saying as long as they stay grounded and stick to REAL tag team wrestling, with double teams and strategic tag outs and wearing down one opponent, the win should come easily.

Nick Jackson wasn’t having that, and so they continued to argue about which of their strategies would be better here tonight. (59)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

3. The Dark Order (Mr. Brodie Lee, Colt Cabana, Stu Grayson) def. SCU – Colt Cabana came to the ring wearing the Dark Order mask gifted to him by Mr. Brodie earlier in the evening before removing it before the bell rang. The match started with Christopher Daniels and Cabana. Daniels tried reasoning with Cabana, yelling that Mr. Brodie is brainwashing him into joining a cult. Cabana responded by closed-fist punching his longtime friend right in the chin. After 14 minutes of solid wrestling here, Cabana got the victory by submitting Daniels with an Inverse Boston Crab!

After seeing his friend in agony, Cabana began to show sympathy and bent down to comfort Daniels. Mr. Brodie saw this and grabbed Cabana away, talking to him in the corner while Sky and Kazarian helped Daniels to his feet. Cabana stood in the middle of the ring, Dark Order in one corner and SCU in the other. Cabana looked at both groups, put his head down, looked again at SCU and said “I’m sorry.” He walked to the back with the Dark Order. (59)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

Dasha Gonzalez is with Chris Jericho backstage at the ShopAEW spot. Jericho talked about still having some Stadium Stampede winners shirts for sale, before segueing into a rant on Orange Cassidy. He said that he has turned Cassidy into blood oranges on two occasions now, and tonight will be no different. Cassidy’s lazy offense will be no match for Jericho’s high-flying, death-defying, groundbreaking, innovative maneuvers. After tonight, Florida will have to change its nickname from the Orange State to the Jericho State! (70)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

4. FTR & The Young Bucks def. Lucha Brothers & The Butcher & The Blade – As it turned out, instead of arguing over which strategy was better, FTR and the Bucks came to a compromise: why not both? The match was a tale of two tag team matches, with the Bucks and Lucha Bros fighting and FTR and The Butcher and The Blade brawling. The victory came when the Bucks gave Rey Fenix a Meltzer Driver onto the raised ramp from the apron, clearing the ring for FTR to hit the Goodnight Express on The Blade for the pin.

As the two teams celebrated, there was still some certain tension between them. Nevertheless, they shook hands and backed away from each other, both teams unsure if they would be attacked from behind.

As this is going on, we see the AEW World Tag Team Champions Adam Page and Kenny Omega watching closely on a television in a lounge area.

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

5. Chris Jericho def. Orange Cassidy – This blood (orange) feud came to a head in this slobberknocker of a showdown. Jericho immediately rebuffed Orange’s lazy offense by taking him down and pummeling him with rights and lefts. It was clear that Orange would have to TRY. And try he so did, as he broke away from the punches and hit a series of dropkicks and hurricanranas that dizzied Le Champion. Despite that, Orange would eventually be on the losing side after he tried one frankensteiner too many, as Jericho stayed steady on his feet and reversed it into the Liontamer for the submission. (73)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

Before tonight’s main event, we had the AEW TNT Champion Cody come to the ring with his coach, The Enforcer Arn Anderson. Arn took to the mic to congratulate Cody on his victory over Jake Hager last week. He was his toughest opponent yet, and overcoming someone with the background of Hager is something to be proud of.

Cody thanked Arn for the kind words. He said that now that Hager was taken care, he is ready to have more open challenges. Starting next week on Dynamite, Cody wants a fresh opponent, either from inside AEW or out. (78)

<div style="color:rgb(26, 26, 26);font-family:Roboto;font-size:14px;font-style:normal;font-weight:normal;border-top:6px solid rgb(255,215,0);"></div>

6. AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley © def. Brian Cage – Moxley’s reign as AEW Champion continues as he takes down the Machine Brian Cage here at Fyter Fest. Cage was by far Moxley’s toughest opponent yet, as the jacked up challenger destroyed the champion for a solid portion of the match. Taz also played a role at ringside, at one point punching Mox as he was draped over the middle rope. It wouldn’t be enough though, as eventually Moxley fought back and took down Cage with a brainbuster from the top rope before giving him a lifted Paradigm Shift for the pinfall win! (76)

Moxley grabbed his title and went to the corner to celebrate, but as he did so he was hit in the back by Wardlow! Moxley was down on the mat getting punched and kicked, as the camera cuts to a smiling MJF walking down the ramp to the ring. Wardlow continued his attack on the champion as MJF slowly got into the ring. With Moxley out, Wardlow brought him to his feet and threw him to MJF, who proceeded to give him a nasty-looking piledriver! He picked up the AEW World Championship and held it up high for all the fans to see. He kissed the title before draping it across the waist of the fallen champion as Fyter Fest goes off the air! Hollywood 5/6

If you gived Nyla's opponent would win even if you guessed the wrong woman, I gave you credit for it.

Special shout to Texasrangers13 for being the only one to correctly guess that the mystery opponent would be Riho! CGN91 included her in his list of three as well!

Being that he guessed 10/11 AND the mystery opponent, I believe the overall winner for the Fyter Fest is Texasrangers13! Keep it up and you may find yourself the winner of the contest come All Out!

With Fyter Fest in the rear view mirror, it’s time to start the
Road to All Out
! Our biggest pay per view is only SIX weeks away, which means we have SIX action-packed episodes of AEW Dynamite until then! Our first show post-Fyter Fest is shaping up to be a good one!

AEW TNT Championship: Cody © vs. TBA (OPEN CHALLENGE)

Last week, AEW TNT Champion Cody announced that open challenges would be returning, for any competitor in or out of All Elite Wrestling. This week is another surprise opponent for the champion. Will he be able to overcome a mystery opponent with no preparation?

Natural Nightmares vs. FTR

Fresh off a victory in the eight-man tag in a team with The Young Bucks, FTR looks to continue the glorious start to their AEW careers. This week, they face off against The Natural Nightmares, a team that challenged Adam Page & Kenny Omega for the AEW World Tag Team titles on June 11th, just over a month ago.

Christopher Daniels vs. Colt Cabana (w/ Mr. Brodie Lee)

At Fyter Fest, Colt Cabana sided with Mr. Brodie Lee and his Dark Order over his longtime friend Christopher Daniels and the rest of SCU. Daniels asked Tony Khan for a match with his friend, trying to find a way to knock some sense into the previously fun-loving Cabana. This will be the ultimate test for Colt; whose side is he truly on?

The Young Bucks vs. The Hybrid 2

After their victory teaming with FTR at Fyter Fest, The Young Bucks look to continue establishing themselves as a top-level team in AEW. Their opponents are The Hybrid 2, Angelico and Jack Evans, who’ve been accusing the brass in the AEW front office of masterminding a conspiracy against them, accusing them of holding them down. This will be TH2’s first match since March 11th!

Plus…

Kris Statlander in action!

Shawn Spears in action!

We hear from MJF!

Chris Jericho wants to get something off his chest!

QUICK PREDICTIONS!

AEW TNT Championship: Cody © vs. ???
