AEW DYNAMITE - JERICHO CRUISE 2022

WEDNESDAY WEEK 4, JANUARY 2022

AEW DARK: ELEVATION

1. Chelsea Green def. KiLynn King

2. Wardlow def. Danny Limelight

3. Orange Cassidy def. Aaron Solow

1. PAC def. Cara Noir - The Jericho Cruise edition of Dynamite started off hot with one-third of the AEW World Trios Champions taking on and defeating Cara Noir in a great opener. Cara Noir earned this match after a strong showing against TNT Champion Eddie Kingston at AEW SuperBrawl: UK Classic, but again came up short.

The Golden Lovers duo of Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi came to the ring, both wearing bright Hawaiian shirts. Kenny talked about their reunion in AEW, which occurred when Ibushi saved Kenny from a Superkliq beatdown at Full Gear. The team is now 2-0 in AEW with wins over Men of the Year and the Elite's own Good Brothers. The Young Bucks interrupted the promo, coming out onto the makeshift ramp wearing ridiculous rompers. Matt told Kenny that he is just trying to recapture the magic of times past with Ibushi, times that will never happen again. Kenny and Matt went back and forth, throwing jabs about their time together in the Elite, from Kenny being kicked out for being a "loser," to Kenny saying that he gave the Bucks their entire careers. Kenny referenced his time as the leader of the Bullet Club, the BEST leader of the Bullet Club, he noted, because he sent shockwaves through the wrestling scene that led to the idea of AEW all those years ago. Kenny said that at All In, Tony Khan was wearing a Bullet Club shirt. Everything we see here in AEW, wouldn’t have happened without the Elite, more specifically Kenny BY GOD Omega. The crowd ate up every word that came out of Kenny's mouth. Ibushi took to the microphone, and simply said "Young Bucks. Golden Lovers. Revolution!" The Bucks, after some pondering, accepted the challenge. Before anything else could be said, Adam Cole jumped into the ring behind Kenny and Ibushi and instigated a beatdown. The Superkliq left the Golden Lovers in a heap in the ring and soaked in the jeers of the passionate AEW crowd.

2. Brian Cage def. Ethan Page - An interesting match, with the larger Cage playing the role of babyface here. Despite interference from Scorpio Sky, Brian Cage came out on top in just under ten minutes with a Drill Claw.

MJF came to the ring, flanked by Shawn Spears and Wardlow. He talked briefly about wanting to jump off the ship because it smells like BO and virginity here. MJF then laid claim to the number one contendership for the AEW World Championship, saying that he has not been beaten in singles competition and mentioned his win over CM Punk at Full Gear. Because of that, he deserves a title match against the Hangman. Before long, Christian Cage came to the ring. Christian said that he is ranked number one, and there is no chance in hell that MJF jumps in front of him. MJF mentioned that Christian is just looking for more and more enemies. He already has problems with Team Taz alongside Jungle Kid and Luchadumbass, and now he wants to get on the bad side of the Pinnacle? The faction prepared to jump him, but Rami Sebei sprinted to the ring to join his new friend. The Pinnacle left without a fight, and Christian said that he would see MJF next week on Dynamite.

3. NWA WORLD WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP: Thunder Rosa © def. AZM - Thunder Rosa continues her incredible reign as champion, taking on and defeating women from across the world. This time, her victim was STARDOM's AZM, who received raucous applause despite losing the contest. With Donna del Mondo having a match at Full Gear and now AZM receiving a title match on Dynamite, things are looking great in the AEW/STARDOM partnership.

AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page came to the ring wearing cowboy boots and his typical giddup, which did not fit the setting of the show. Hangman noted this, and said that he lost all of his swimshorts in the ocean and all he had left was jeans. He said he saw the promo earlier with MJF and Christian, and said that he doesn't care who wants the title more, because it ain't coming off this cowboy's shoulder. He said that he will continue being the best champion this company has ever seen.

Leaning on a guardrail looking over the ocean were Tony Schiavone and Cody Rhodes. Schiavone mentioned Cody's up and down career in AEW and his self-inflicted wound of never being able to challenge for the AEW World title. Cody said that he doesn’t regret the decision, but he also feels like he can never truly be on top of the world without a world title on his shoulder. Cody said that his father told him that being a champion isn't just having a title, it's about being the person the fans want to see. If you can't be a world champion, be the people's champion. He sees all the high-caliber talent that AEW keeps bringing in, from Punk to Danielson to Sebei to Cole to Green. Sometimes he feels like the fans forgot about the man who was here from day one: Cody Rhodes. He is going to make sure no one ever forgets him again.

4. AEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: FTR © def. Darby Allin & Lance Archer - A truly incredible match here, with Darby and Archer being as over as a team could be. FTR got all the heat and played it up big time. In the end however, with Archer incapacitated on the outside from a Shawn Spears chairshot, a Big Rig on Darby led to the pinfall victory for the champs.

A quick pre-recorded promo package of Andrade El Idolo and Thea Trinidad aired, with the two of them sitting at a bar on the cruise ship. Andrade told Death Triangle that his friends were coming, and to watch their backs. Trinidad chimed in, saying that his friends might be closer than you think…

Tony Schiavone introduced AEW Women's World Champion Britt Baker and Chelsea Green. Baker noted that her and Tony stood here two years ago on the last Jericho Cruise and became best friends. Baker said in case anyone hadn't noticed, she is running out of challengers for her title thanks to the state of the AEW women's division. She said she might just retire and put the title on display at her dental office. Schiavone noted that that won't be the case, because Tony Khan has booked a number one contender's match on AEW Rampage this Friday between Hikaru Shida and Serena Deeb. Baker and Green were angry, and Baker asked Schiavone how he could do this to her. The heels left the ring and left Schiavone dumbfounded.

The announce team ran down the card for AEW Rampage this Friday and AEW Dynamite next Wednesday. On Rampage, Hikaru Shida and Serena Deeb will meet in a number one contender's match to determine who face Britt Baker on next week's Dynamite. Daniel Garcia and Eddie Kingston will meet in a battle of New Yorkers. In the main event, Rami Sebei & Christian Cage team up in Sebei's first AEW match to take on the Team Taz duo of Ricky Starks and Will Hobbs. And on next week's Dynamite, Britt Baker faces the winner of Shida and Deeb. Cody Rhodes takes on Orange Cassidy. Ricochet & Altisimo team up to face Top Flight in what will be a barnburner of a match. And in the main event, MJF and Christian Cage meet in a number one contender's match for the Hangman Page's AEW World Championship, with the main event of AEW Revolution hanging in the balance.

5. CM Punk & Bryan Danielson def. Le Sex Gods - He had his name on the boat but came up short in the main event. Punk and Danielson received the loudest cheers of the night as they teamed for the first time in AEW. Sammy nearly hit a nasty 630 to the outside on Punk, but Punk moved and Sammy splatted hard on the ship. This allowed Punk and Danielson to isolate Jericho, with Punk hitting a GTS, followed by a running knee by Danielson for the three count.

CM Punk and Bryan Danielson stood tall and celebrated amongst the fans to end AEW Dynamite - Jericho Cruise 2022.

AEW RAMPAGE

FRIDAY WEEK 4, JANUARY 2022

AEW Rampage from the Jericho Cruise kicked off with some light fireworks and a rabid crowd. The announce team quickly ran down the card, with Rami Sebei's in-ring debut taking front and center.

1. Eddie Kingston def. Daniel Garcia - In a de facto Battle for New York, TNT Champion Eddie Kingston proved that he was the better man as he took down and defeated Garcia in a nontitle match.

The AEW World Trios Champions Death Triangle came to the ring, with PAC in his ring gear and the Lucha Brothers in their idea of beachwear. PAC demanded that Andrade El Idolo come to the ring and tell them who his friends are. Andrade and Thea Trinidad stepped onto the ramp, and Trinidad told Death Triangle that when she said their friends were close, she meant they were already here. From behind, the champions were attacked by…

RUSH & DRAGON LEE!

Andrade's friends are the incredibly talented Rush and Dragon Lee and the three of them stomped out the AEW World Trios Champions. Dragon Lee hoisted up PAC and nailed him with a Desnucadora (vertical suplex powerbomb). Andrade took the mic and announced that Los Ingobernables were in America!

2. Hikaru Shida def. Serena Deeb - In a number one contender's match for Britt Baker's AEW Women's World Championship, Hikaru Shida defeated the Professor of Professional Wrestling.

After the match, Britt Baker, flanked by Rebel and Chelsea Green, came out onto the ramp and had a staredown with Shida.

In a pretaped promo, the Golden Lovers were hanging out in the Jericho Cruise's pool. Kenny Omega said that what the "Superkliq" did to them on Dynamite will not be forgotten, and come Revolution, he and Ibushi are ready to take out the best tag team in the world.

The announce team ran down the card for next week's AEW Dynamite. Britt Baker defends the AEW Women's World Championship against Hikaru Shida. The bad blood between Ricky Starks and Jungle Boy will boil over as they meet in singles competition. Cody Rhodes seeks to reclaim his spot as AEW's Ace as he takes on Orange Cassidy. Top Flight will face Ricochet & Altisimo in a match that will see no one touch the mat, probably. The reformed Los Ingobernables will be in attendance. And in the main event, Christian Cage and MJF meet in a number one contender's match for the Hangman Page's AEW World Championship.

3. Rami Sebei & Christian Cage def. Team Taz (Ricky Starks/Will Hobbs) - The babyfaces came out on top in Sebei's AEW debut. The match was a total cluster, with interference all over and constant chaos. MJF and Wardlow tried to interfere on Team Taz's behalf but Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus sprinted to the ring to aid their friend Christian. With the brawl on the outside, Sebei took advantage of a distracted Will Hobbs and hit two Sebei Kicks in the corner, getting the pinfall win.

Postmatch, the brawl continued with MJF, Wardlow, Starks, and Hobbs, and Cobb squaring off and fighting with Sebei, Christian, Jungle Boy, and Luchasaurus. The show went off the air in classic Tony Schiavone fashion.

RESULTS

1. Eddie Kingston def. Daniel Garcia

2. Hikaru Shida def. Serena Deeb

3. Rami Sebei & Christian Cage def. Team Taz (Ricky Starks/Will Hobbs)

ROAD TO AEW REVOLUTION 2022

FEBRUARY 2022

The road to AEW Revolution 2022 was one of AEW's best series of shows since its inception. A string of colossal main events across Dynamite and Rampage capped off excellent episodes that built to AEW Revolution being perhaps the biggest event in company history.

The fate of the AEW World Championship hangs in the balance at AEW Revolution. In an incredible number one contenders match on the first Dynamite of February, MJF defeated Christian Cage, in no small part due to the interference of Ricky Starks and the rest of Team Taz, who have their own issues with Christian. MJF, happy to earn the victory by any means necessary, paraded as if he was already the champion, implying that the main event of Revolution was a foregone conclusion. He preyed on Hangman's emotions, calling himself the future of the industry while Hangman wallows away in his own emotions. MJF claimed that this was the peak of Hangman's career, while this is just the beginning of his own. Hangman swore to defend All Elite Wrestling from MJF, because MJF's vision is sports entertainment bullshit that AEW stands against. The champion has the momentum heading into the PPV, as he teamed with Dark Order cohorts Evil Uno and Stu Grayson to defeat the Pinnacle trio of MJF, Wardlow and Shawn Spears on the penultimate episode of Dynamite before Revolution.

The Superkliq continued their feud with the Golden Lovers, with a twist thrown in: Cody Rhodes. With Adam Cole and the Young Bucks still eager to ruin the Golden Lovers reunion that has taken a hold since Full Gear in November, Kenny Omega has climbed back up and regained his confidence that made him the best wrestler in the world. On the second Dynamite of the month, Kenny Omega defeated Adam Cole in a rematch from Full Gear, showing that the Kenny from old was indeed back. Cole didn't take this loss kindly, as he came out on the following Dynamite to complain about Kenny Omega and demanded a rubber match to show that Kenny has been usurped by Adam Cole baybay. Instead of Kenny, Cole received Cody Rhodes. Cody said that everyone is tired of Adam Cole already and he's only been here for a few months. Cody reminded Cole that this isn't Ring of Honor, and it sure as hell ain't NXT. Cole can't waltz around like he owns the place like he did in developmental. But you know who can? Cody Rhodes. Cody was on a redemption arc, having defeated Orange Cassidy on Dynamite and vowing to show the world that he can still be the ace of AEW even without a title. On the go-home episode of Dynamite, the Superkliq defeated the Nightmare Family trio of Dustin Rhodes, Lee Johnson and Shawn Dean. And on the same episode, Kota Ibushi defeated the Superkliq's Elite brethren Karl Anderson in a singles match. Revolution will feature the Golden Lovers vs. the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes vs. Adam Cole.

FTR, the first ever two-time AEW World Tag Team Champions, are the self-proclaimed greatest tag team in the world. Their aim is to show that their style of tag team wrestling trumps all the rest, and that two men who have lived and breathed pro wrestling together can defeat any two men put in front of them. They successfully defended the titles against Ricochet & Altisimo in what many consider an early contender for match of the year. However, their fortunes started to turn following the Casino Tag Team Battle Royale on the second Dynamite of the month. The battle royale has been used to determine the tag team title challengers for Revolution each year, with this year having the added twist of being the Casino version of the match. The winners: CM Punk & Bryan Danielson. Punk & Danielson declared themselves full-time members of the tag team division the week prior, and immediately made themselves the number one contenders through winning the battle royale. In a preview of the PPV match, Punk defeated Dax Harwood in a bloody war in the main event of the week 3 Dynamite. FTR has sworn to beat two "singles" stars and continue to show their vision for tag team wrestling.

Andrade El Idolo and Thea Trinidad introduced Rush and Dragon Lee on the Jericho Cruise to bring Los Ingobernables to All Elite Wrestling under the leadership of the original founder. Andrade, still at war with PAC and the Lucha Brothers, vowed to take the AEW World Trios Championships from Death Triangle at Revolution. Andrade defeated Rey Fenix in a five-star classic on the week 1 Rampage. However, PAC defeated Rush and Dragon Lee's father, La Bestia del Ring, on the following episode of Dynamite in what amounted to a squash. Even with Los Ingobernables coming to his aid, Death Triangle still won the ensuing fight. The championship match was booked for Revolution: Death Triangle vs. Los Ingobernables for the AEW World Trios Championships.

Britt Baker has held the AEW Women's World Championship since Double or Nothing in May 2021. After all of her defenses, there has rarely been a time where it felt like she was in danger of losing the title. That was, until February 2022. Despite defeating former champion Hikaru Shida on Dynamite, Britt's poise looked to be crumbling. Mercedes Martinez has gone through a tear of the women's division, most notably feuding with and defeating Team Taz's Leyla Hirsch and Killer Kelly. After Baker's friend and ally Chelsea Green defeated Yuka Sakazaki on Rampage, Martinez came to the aid of Joshi Lightning Squad to stop a beatdown by Baker, Green and Rebel. Martinez then teamed with Riho and Hikaru Shida to defeat the trio, making it known that she was a force to be reckoned with and forced Baker to finally pay attention to her. The match has been booked for Revolution: Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Martinez with the AEW Women's World Championship on the line.

Rami Sebei's debut at AEW SuperBrawl: UK Classic sent shockwaves through the pro wrestling industry. He allied himself with Christian Cage and Jurassic Express in their fight against Team Taz. His presence helped Christian earn the number one contenders match against MJF, but Ricky Starks interfered to cost Christian the title shot. On that same show, Starks also beat Jungle Boy in decisive fashion without the aid of his cohorts to show that he truly is the real deal. The feud boiled over into the Casino Tag Team Battle Royale, as Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus eliminated Starks and Hobbs, but Jeff Cobb distracted both members of Jurassic Express to get them eliminated. A huge brawl ensued on the outside between the factions. A match between Ricky Starks and Christian Cage was finally made for Revolution. On the go-home Dynamite in the main event, Rami Sebei would defeat Jeff Cobb despite massive amounts of interference, giving his side the momentum heading into the PPV.

After losing to Jon Moxley in a bid for the IWGP United States Championship at AEW SuperBrawl: UK Classic, Miro disappeared for five weeks. He was posting teasers on social media about needing to once again regain the love of his God. He said that in order for his God to redeem him, he must rid the world of blasphemous claims and false gods. His plan was revealed when he attacked Chris Jericho after Jericho defeated Max Caster on the third Dynamite of the month. Miro said that calling himself the "Demo God" meant that he must pay for his false claims. On the ensuing Rampage, Miro swiftly defeated Jericho's Inner Circle and Le Sex God teammate, Sammy Guevara. Jericho is looking to vanquish a monster and show that he still has what it takes to remain at the top of All Elite Wrestling.

IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley missed most of the month, instead working the New Beginning tour for New Japan Pro Wrestling. Upon his return, he defeated Wheeler Yuta in a nontitle match on Dynamite before being confronted by Wardlow. Wardlow challenged Moxley to a match for his championship at Revolution, with the goal of showing the world he is more than just MJF's bodyguard.

Eddie Kingston's long reign as TNT Champion continued without much difficulty. He stated that he was a fighting champion, and would take on anyone from in or out of AEW. This led to Bobby Fish making his AEW debut in a losing effort against the champion, although his performance led to a full-time contract being signed. After Kingston's defense over Fish, Lance Archer came to the ring and challenged Kingston to a match for Revolution. Archer, a member of Sting's Squadron, said that he was looking to finally bring home gold in All Elite Wrestling. The challenger would team with Darby Allin and Sting to defeat the Factory trio of QT Marshall, Anthony Ogogo and Aaron Solo, looking incredibly dominant in the match.

Thunder Rosa continued to defend her NWA World Women's Championship against talent across the entire wrestling landscape. In a promo from Japan, she announced that Hikaru Shida and Maki Itoh would face off on the go-home episode of Dynamite to determine her opponent for the Revolution Buy In. That match would be won by Shida, but Itoh remained a very popular figure after her loss.

Even with all those stories heading into Revolution, there were still more things going on that would not be on the PPV. The Factory was being a thorn in the side of Sting's Squadron, with Anthony Ogogo and Darby Allin in particular being major enemies. After weeks of barbs being thrown, Darby Allin teamed with Sting and Lance Archer to defeat Anthony Ogogo, QT Marshall and Aaron Solo in a trios contest on Rampage. However, Ogogo knocked out Darby after the contest. On the following Dynamite, Darby challenged Ogogo to a street fight for Rampage, and would pick up the win in that match. In another ongoing saga, Jade Cargill and Jordynne Grace feuded before having a match on the final Rampage in February. During an interview with Jade Cargill on the week three Dynamite, Jordynne Grace interrupted and told her that the whole women's roster sees her running her mouth every week and it's about time someone shut her up. A brawl ensued, and a match was booked. Despite heading into the contest 13-1 (with the only loss being to Thunder Rosa in an NWA World Women's Championship match), Jade would lose decisively to Grace.
