    Standard Singles Match

    Delirious vs. Glenn Gilbertti

Douglas joins us on commentary this week with Simon Diamond scheduled for action later tonight. He starts out by explaining to Scott Hudson that he attacked BG James because opportunity was calling. It’s time for The New Franchise to start making moves around here and they’ve started with the 3Live Kru because "you always go after the biggest Lion in the jungle". But, right now, Scott Hudson needs to forget about all that and just focus on the action in the ring.

And so does this narrator, not that there’s much action to speak of. Gilbertti is much better at being annoying than actually wrestling and Delirious is simply too inexperienced at this point in his career to topple the veteran. Glenn hits the Chart Buster and picks up a routine victory here.

We jump to a pre-taped promo in the interview room with the “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, clutching his TNA X-Division Championship over his shoulder. He says that the X-Division is now his domain and that it doesn’t matter who TNA put before him. Chris Sabin, Michael Shane, Kid Kash, AJ Styles. He has no intention of relinquishing that title any time soon.

As for Elix Skipper and Low-Ki, it seems that Triple X just cannot get away from one another. He thought they’d go their separate ways after they split up as a trio but the universe works in mysterious ways. He didn’t ask “Primetime” to help him win this Championship but he’s grateful for the assist and he intends to pay it back when he defeats Low-Ki on Wednesday and holds on to his TNA X-Division Championship.

    Standard Singles Match

    Chris Hero vs. Simon Diamond

This is our second time looking at Chris Hero, a savvy but relatively inexperienced technical wrestler. He fares a little better here against a competitor more his type but Diamond eventually finds his groove with the Simon Series. He gets a close near fall with that before the Simonizer sees him match Gilbertti’s victory from earlier tonight.

We flash to a pre-taped promo with James Mitchell, in a dimly-lit room as always. He says that on Wednesday, The Sandman learned what happens when you’re friends with Raven. As he stood in the ring, opposed to The Gathering’s generous offer that could end all his suffering, he was beaten to within seconds of retirement and saved only by C.W. Anderson.

He’ll get what’s coming to him for poking his nose in their business, he doesn’t have to worry about that. What Mitchell is more concerned with is what happens once both The Sandman and C.W. are done playing hero for Raven. Will he toss them aside for his own jealous pursuits just as he tossed CM Punk and Julio Dinero aside? He tells the boys that it’s simple, when you’re friends with Raven, bad things happen. But when you join The Gathering, you’re part of an entity much bigger and stronger than yourself.

    “Quote The Gathering, nevermore.”

    Standard Tag Team Match

Gutter & Vordell Walker vs. Samoan Connection (Ekmo & Sonny Siaki)

Shane Douglas says he’s paying close attention to this one, he likes Ekmo and Siaki and they might be New Franchise material. Gutter & Walker do their best but if anything, their attempts to fight just prolong their punishment further. Siaki hits the Siakalypse on Gutter and Ekmo squashes him with the Wild Monkey Splash for the victory.

We join Jeff Jarrett in his private locker room, with “The Monster” Abyss guarding the door in typically imposing fashion. Jarrett says that the power struggle between himself and NWA has been going on long enough, they sent in Erik Watts to undermine his authority. They are TNA Management and they don’t need no NWA stooges around here!

But Jeff is glad that Erik has proposed the Control of TNA Clash because it’s time for Watts and his corrupting influence to go away. He doesn’t go over to Cyberspace, nor has he been seen in Florida recently. Bill Behrens doesn’t have to deal with Watts poking his nose in NWA Wildside business neither! No, he’s only ever making sure that TNA follows the NWA’s beck and call and Double J doesn’t like the smell of that favouritism. In two weeks, it ends for good and Jarrett takes back his authority, his rightful ownership and control of NWA: TNA!

As for Sting, Jarrett knows he’s back on Wednesday and he can guarantee that Team Jarrett will be paying him a visit.

    Standard Singles Match

    Dragon Kid vs. Kid Kash

Scott Hudson calls Dragon Kid one of the most exciting free agents in the Japanese wrestling scene. He’s definitely an athletically gifted talent but an unknown commodity that doesn’t quite have flight in his wings with the TNA faithful just yet. The two work an impressive contest that turns on a dime when Dragon Kid’s Top Rope Hurricanrana attempt is countered into a Powerbomb. This leaves the Kid easy pickings for the match-winning Money Maker from Kash.

  2. Oh no I just meant I've predicted wrong each time so far! Lol - I think the feud is perfectly good! I like the proteges taking on the master, and I'm a big James Mitchell guy.

Oh right! Haha, sorry buddy - my bad :) If it makes you feel better, The Sandman only won because he was pissed at me for making him lose the week before haha.

  3. C.W. Anderson vs. Julio Dinero

Comments: I've been off on this whole feud so far, but I think Dinero pulls off the win here.

It was started by a Russo-esque swerve before Dutch took over, give us a break :p But, for real, I appreciate you saying you're not digging it. Hopefully you get into it as I reach the destination I have in mind!

    Standard Tag Team Match

America’s Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) vs. Red Shirt Security (Kevin Northcutt & Legend)

Mike Tenay explains that Jarrett blames Kid Kash for last week’s defeat and has sent the Red Shirts out to do their business alone this week. This one predictably breaks down into something resembling a bar brawl, just four big dudes slugging it out! That’s a rough situation for Northcutt & Legend though, they are strong and rugged athletes in their own right but hardly able to stand toe-to-toe with Harris & Storm when it comes to fisticuffs.

Their superiority is proven true when the “Cowboy” decks Legend with the Last Call, making sure the Canadian stays put on the outside so Harris can do his business on the inside. The “Wildcat” ducks a lazy clothesline from Northcutt before the Catatonic captures the three.

In the Team Jarrett private locker room, Glenn Gilbertti and Simon Diamond are engaged in a heated argument, tensions seemingly having boiled over at the Red Shirts losing to AMW. David Young and Johnny Swinger try to get between the two and play peacemaker but it’s only stopping the two from getting physically aggressive with one another whilst the verbal offensives continue.

Glenn accuses Diamond of not doing enough to return to the ring last week. That Shake, Rattle and Roll was no more than a jab, a man’s gotta have a better chin than that! Diamond defends himself by pointing out that if Gilbertti was that desperate for Team Jarrett to capture tag team gold, where was he last week? Couldn’t he have provided an assist or maybe took one for the team?

Gilbertti says he had an appointment at the barbershop and arrived at the event late. Not that Diamond would know anything about that, the only two words he knows in the lexicon of men’s style are ‘crew cut’!

Having heard enough, Johnny Swinger raises his voice and quietens the rabble. He lost the match last week when he tapped out to the Tequila Sunrise but tonight, he’ll make it even for Jeff Jarrett when he and he alone deals with another one of their rivals, AJ Styles. Both Diamond and Gilbertti agree on this and recognise that Jarrett might not be so mad if they pick up a victory before he arrives tonight.

    Standard Singles Match

    Don Harris vs. Ekmo

Don West says early on here that there’s absolutely nothing pretty about this match, just two big men trying to knock each other’s block off. We even get an old school trading of shoulder blocks, immovable object meeting immovable object!... until Ekmo moves Harris with a body splash. Don is forced to fight from underneath in this match, trying to mitigate the weight advantage by outworking his opponent. He does back Ekmo into the corner and starts raining down with lefts and rights…

    HgUXKHY.jpg

“That’s Kid Kash on the ramp and he’s captured the attention of Don Harris in the ring.”

But the momentary distraction from this presence outside the ring is enough for Ekmo to regather his bearings and when Don does return his attention to the fight, he’s immediately flattened by an authoritative Samoan Drop. The Wild Monkey Splash follows and Don is left staring at the lights.

We jump to a pre-taped promo in a dimly lit room with James Mitchell, flanked on each side by CM Punk and Julio Dinero. He tells Raven that he should have done a better job when he put him on the shelf, he should have put him out for good, he should have tore off the serpent’s head so it would never sink its fangs into his flesh ever again! He’s back and he’s glad that Raven’s former students see him for what he really is.

This is when Julio Dinero pipes up and accuses Raven of losing sight of what’s important. The Gathering is about the group. When they stood inside a steel cage, putting their bodies through tables, what was in it for them? With James Mitchell as their mentor, Punk & Dinero are going to go places they never would have gone under Raven’s wing!

Punk speaks up, as he’s known to do. Raven wanted him and Dinero to be subservient forever as he chased championships on his own. They bled for his cause and laid sweat on the canvas so they could all make a better career for themselves. When they went to war with Abyss and the Red Shirts, why was it just so Raven could get a shot at the NWA title?

“What about Raven?! What about Punk? What about Dinero?”
All Raven cares about is himself and if The Sandman hasn’t found out yet, he’ll learn that lesson tonight.

    Standard Singles Match

The Sandman vs. CM Punk (w/ Julio Dinero & James Mitchell)

Punk remonstrates Sandman early on for his smoking habit and his obsessive drinking, offering to set him on a better path. He reminds him that Raven doesn’t care about him and that he can become a better man in The Gathering. Obviously these pleas on deaf ears and The Sandman gets to work with left hands that leave Punk seeking solace with Dinero on the outside. But then The Sandman wipes them both out with a Flipping Senton from the apron!

This all precedes Punk regaining control with a Pepsi Twist but losing it when The Sandman counters his Corner Kick + Bulldog combination by ramming Punk sternum-first into the adjacent turnbuckles. But as The Sandman sets up for a Russian Legsweep, the pretence of this match is shattered by Julio taking Sandman’s singapore cane from the corner of the ring and smashing him on the left shoulder with it as referee Rudy Charles calls for the bell to disqualify Punk.

    xiIzVUR.jpg5QeW72n.jpgt53QyJO.jpg

Post match, the assault continues with Don West commenting that it was never about the competition, The Gathering never cared about beating The Sandman, they just wanted to make an example of him. After a succession of singapore cane shots, James Mitchell directs the next move. They place a steel chair in the middle of the ring and both Punk and Dinero bring The Sandman back to his feet in a front facelock…

    F3DlJSL.jpg

“That’s C.W. Anderson, an Extremist just like The Sandman, just like Raven!”

Down the ramp bolts C.W. and though Punk gets out of dodge quickly, Dinero tries exchanging fists of fire. Anderson whips him to the ropes and telegraphs his signature Spinebuster but this is the cue for Punk to grasp at Dinero’s boot and assist his partner’s unceremonious exit from the ring under the bottom rope.

As C.W. attends to The Sandman, The Gathering are as surprised as anybody by this interjection. They back up the ramp, the ponderance of their next move written across James Mitchell’s stern visage.

    Standard Singles Match

    AJ Styles vs. Johnny Swinger

Don West remarks how much of an upset it would be if Swinger could pull this one off and although it’s obvious that Styles is the more classy competitor of the two, the former tag team champion does hold his own. He makes this match surprisingly competitive, figuring that he cannot compare to “The Phenomenal One” if he fights fire with fire so he instead tries to nullify AJ’s highlight reel of offensive moves. He shows an impressive amount of nous when he counters the Phenomenon DDT into a Swinging Neckbreaker and both the Vertebreaker and the Swinger Stinger get him close to a victory.

But the reality is that AJ has too much for Swinger and overwhelms him once he finds his lane. Take two is better than take one, AJ executes the Phenomenon DDT this time before the Spiral Tap puts Swinger down for the three.

    “Oh you didn’t know?”

    “We the 3LK!”

    “Beware!”

On the stage, Konnan, BG James and Ron Killings perform their newest single, Beware. Killings is front and center, with Konnan to his right and BG some way back to the left.

    “It’s the remix!”

    “And we’re still getting rowdy!

Ron Killings calls himself the Suntan Superman, Konnan calls himself a hustler and says arole a lot and BG just keeps repeating ‘Oh you didn’t know?’ but the crowd seems to dig it. Maybe Tennessee has been starved of live hip-hop for some time now and this is like seeing Elvis Presley in person for the first time.

    “Total Nonstop Action,

    NWA TNA, we’re satisfaction.

    Y’all ain’t got no party,

I’m sorry we got something for you…”

Suddenly we see a shadowy figure emerge and a mic drop...

    K3IQn6M.jpg

“Shane Douglas just came out and punched BG James in the mouth with that chain wrapped around his hand!”

Konnan pursues the fleeing Shane Douglas as “The Truth” checks on BG, who is now bleeding from his mouth. This leaves Don West to remark that now he’s spitting blood when he should be spitting bars (okay, he didn’t really say that) but it appears there’s no encore as Killings and a few stage hands help BG return to his feet, with James shoving all the assistance to one side in defiance before trudging backstage on his own.

Shane Douglas has stage crashed the 3Live Kru and if their new single is anything to go by, they’re going to get
    rowdy on his ass!

    TNA X-Division Championship #1 Contendership

    Standard Singles Match

    Chris Sabin vs. Low-Ki

Mike Tenay explains early on here that Michael Shane was originally supposed to be part of this fallout from Ultimate-X 2 but was pulled from the match by TNA management due to injury. They ponder if he’ll interfere and have some say but what we do know immediately is that the match lacks the edge it might have had with Shane involved.

This one has an exhibition-like feel to it, though Low-Ki does get increasingly physical with his spicy strikes and Sabin tries to counter back by being more technical and savvy. But it’s actually Low-Ki that outwits Sabin towards the end, countering a Cradle Shock into a Victory Roll into a jumping Double Foot Stomp! Sabin tries to fight out of a Front Facelock but a Savate Kick leaves him easy pickings for the Ki Krusher and sets up a personal clash between former Triple X teammates for next week.

    NWA World Heavyweight Championship

    Standard Singles Match

Jeff Jarrett © (w/ Don Callis) vs. D’Lo Brown

Don West observes early on here that D’Lo is passionate and exuberant, definitely in the zone and ready to throw down. Consequently, Jarrett wants nothing to do with that and tries to stall and slow the pace, hoping that his opponent will get all of that emotion and energy out of his system. This does not work at all and just serves to make D’Lo angrier, who uses his superior stature well, beating Jarrett into the canvas and getting real close to a dethronement with the D’Lo Leg Drop.

This is where Don Callis earns his piece of the pie, engaging referee Andrew Thomas on the announce table side of the ring on the topic of his count. It’s a bit fast according to the “Management Consultant”, who demonstrates ad nauseum the exact pace the referee should be counting to.

As this is going on, D’Lo primes Jarrett for the Sky High but instead receives a Low Blow for his efforts and is easy pickings for The Stroke with Callis abandoning his gesticulations just in time for the referee to count the inevitable three.

Post match, Jeff Jarrett and Don Callis ham it up and make the most of their celebration as Mike Tenay laments their being nobody at ringside to deal with the “Management Consultant” and his ever-present irritability.

“The NWA Director of Authority does not look happy…”

But Erik Watts comes out, with Goldilocks as always. He tells production to cut Jarrett’s music because he has a microphone in hand and has some things to say. It doesn’t seem to matter what the NWA put before Team Jarrett, they find a way. They’ve tried to stop interference. They’ve tried to stop people being at ringside but this has simply gone too far now. Watts makes a proposition.

“The Control of TNA Clash. Me vs. Jarrett. If I win, Don is gone. If I lose, I will resign as NWA Director of Authority. There can only be one!”

Sensing an opportunity to consolidate their control further, Jarrett accepts, albeit to minor protests from Don whose job is being put on the line. In three weeks time, Jarrett promises that we will ring in the very first TNA Impact on ESPN with Team Jarrett in complete control just as it always should have been!

  6. Right, if somebody had come to me with the formation of the Pinnacle and the rivalry with the Inner Circle, I would not have done the beatdown angle they did in the dressing room. That's something you build to because even though the story is just starting, we have already seen the Inner Circle kick their asses. We shouldn't have seen anything like that until Blood & Guts, they should have built that match as the moment that Jericho's crew finally get their hands on their enemies.

I think the broader problem with the promotion is that these little things all add up.

Christian debuted and they promoted that we would hear from him. He came to the ring, said nothing and left. They promoted something that didn't happen. Worse, they waited until the third show after Revolution to put him in the ring. If the iron was hot on the Wednesday after the PPV, it wasn't two weeks later. He really should have wrestled on the first Dynamite if they wanted to capitalise on any buzz they might have gotten from his signing.

The Team Taz stuff isn't landing with me because I pretty much only watch Dynamite and they are never on it outside of short promos and pre-tapes. They certainly never wrestle on Dynamite, haven't Cage & Starks wrestled on there once this year? Has Hobbs wrestled on the flagship show at all this year?

I'm sure I can be accused of being overly critical of them but it's only because I want AEW to be successful that I care enough to criticise them for these issues.

  7. Agree on not doing predictions for Xplosion, especially since I didn't do that well. :D

Haha I like your logic. Siaki winning probably surprised a few people, but his overness is between 10 and 15 points higher than Chris Hero's at this point. I'm sure the match would have got a much higher rating but it got dinged as both guys are viewed as "insignificant" by the fans. That's something that kinda puts me off writing the show actually, I know these matches would have good action but I'd have to constantly explain the low rating they're getting from the crowd not caring about who is in the ring. :D

You could just post results of Xplosion, without writing the whole thing up. Sorta like a pre-show

Yeah, I will probably do something like that once Impact starts or just make it really short format stuff that people can read in a few minutes. I'm not sure, I've got the first few written up so I'll probably post full shows for the first month and then we'll see after that. :)

  8. <p>PREVIEW: NWA:TNA on PPV #77</p><p> </p><p>

That will probably be the only prediction contest for Xplosion... As you can see, nobody in my game world watches the show. 25,000 viewers haha. It's mostly a pointless thing that I am contractually obligated to book and I doubt anything noteworthy will happen besides the booking of talent you might recognise. </p><p> </p><p>

Not just that but I like to wait until everybody can get their predictions in, which means posting a preview and waiting 4-5 days. I've already booked up to mid-February in TEW and just want to get on with the diary and get to the good stuff. So no more hold ups with useless B-shows, let's get this show on the road!</p><p> </p><p>

    Standard Singles Match

Vordell Walker vs. Ekmo (w/ Trinity)

Scott Hudson mentions on commentary that Walker has a background in Mixed Martial Arts and though he puts it to decent use early on with accurate strikes and precise holds, the momentum shifts completely after Ekmo hits his signature Samoan Drop. Much to the delight of Trinity seconding the Samoan, the Wild Monkey Splash followed and referee Andrew Thomas could have counted to 10 before Walker would have flinched.

    Standard Singles Match

    Chris Hero vs. Sonny Siaki

Simon Diamond says that Chris Hero is one of the most well-travelled talents working on the independent circuit right now, the kind of admirable hustle that Team Jarrett may well be interested in. There’s no doubt he has a bright future as he develops his game further but he’s unfortunately a little too unpolished to negate Siaki’s impactful offence and the Siakalypse shuts this one down.

Scott Hudson patches us in, on Wednesday we will see CM Punk take on The Sandman in singles competition. Never the type to keep his cards close to his chest, Punk has some thoughts on this and we jump to a pre-taped promo in a dimly-lit room. Amateur in production, Punk is all alone.

He says that it was eye for an eye on Wednesday, just as Raven put James Mitchell on the shelf, so James Mitchell sees to it that Raven is put on the shelf too. Punk says that everything will be explained in due course and that the full picture regarding him, Julio, James Mitchell and Raven will be unveiled for all to see. We just have to be patient.

Next Wednesday, The Sandman rues his decisions when he’s put in the same hospital ward as his dear friend Raven.

    Standard Tag Team Match

Gilbertti and Young vs. The Disciples of the New Church (Sinn & Slash)

Diamond has been having his issues with Gilbertti lately and is blatantly biased on commentary, applauding everything Young does whilst scrutinising everything that Glenn does. As a unit, the Team Jarrett duo are relatively ruthless here and troubled only when Young has to save Gilbertti from a Sinn Kick.

It’s a move he only got hit with because he got careless according to Simon, but what is not careless is the ‘wicked’ Spinebuster that Young hits on Sinn before Gilbertti comes off the top with a mercifully conclusive Diving Elbow Drop.

We jump to a pre-taped promo in the interview room with D’Lo Brown, who will fight Jeff Jarrett for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship on Wednesday.

D’Lo says that TNA has been putting up with Team Jarrett, they think they own the place, they think they can call the shots but Erik Watts has reminded everybody that’s not the case. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship has the richest history of any title in professional wrestling and that’s the only power that Jarrett and his cronies have.

D’Lo says that on Wednesday, all of that power will change course when he captures that championship for the first time in his career.

    Standard Singles Match

    Sonjay Dutt vs. Elix Skipper

Hudson explains that this match is on Xplosion because neither competitor was featured in Ultimate-X 2, despite Skipper’s obvious impact on that match. Dutt is a youngster that is certainly showing potential, he has agility and athleticism in spades, combined with a dynamic moveset that keeps his opponents on their toes. All that said, Diamond argues that Skipper has so many ways to win a match and praises him as more formidable and more technically gifted.

It ultimately comes down to Sonjay’s lack of experience against the more sagely veteran that “Primetime” is. Skipper gets his knees up against a 450 Splash, the Bombay Buster having not dazed him enough to leave him prey to such a high-risk maneuver. With the damage done on the ribs, Skipper locks in a Modified Octopus Hold, the Skippermission! and the “Playa from the Himalaya” submits to fight another day at the 11:39 mark.

  10. Thanks for the answers guys, appreciate the feedback. :) Xplosion coming shortly!

    Comments: Big money Glenn

    Ooo, that's a good idea for a gimmick ;)

    ]Chris Hero vs. Sonny Siaki

Comments: Hero's the long term project, but Siaki still had something at this period.

Hero has odd stats on this database. High Psychology, Safety, Basics, etc etc... but his Technical stat is about 48 and it's the highest of his actual wrestling stats haha. Hopefully he keeps getting better, he works for about 6 indy promotions during my save so that should help.

  11. Glacier and Ernest Miller vs. Konnan and Scott Norton w/Vincent

Never bet against the future IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Scott Norton. :p

    Non-Title Match

    Lizmark Jr. vs. Eddy Guerrero

Rick Steiner vs. The Barbarian w/Meng and Jimmy Hart

Rock 'n' Roll Express vs. Mortis & Wrath w/James Vandenberg

    Who betta than Mortis!

Disco Inferno w/Rick Martel vs. Sick Boy w/The Flock

Jim Neidhart vs. Randy Savage w/Elizabeth

    WCW United States Championship

Diamond Dallas Page © w/Kimberly vs. Curt Hennig w/Rick Rude

DDP was so good in 98, still a bit of a crime to me that they held off until spring 99 before putting the belt on him. He holds on to the US title here.

  12. PREVIEW: TNA Xplosion

Prior to NWA: TNA on PPV #76, TNA taped Xplosion, its syndicated television broadcast that is sent out to two networks in the United States.

With the deal inked for IMPACT to start on ESPN, Dutch couldn’t see much point in running this show now and raised his concerns with Dixie Carter.

    3yvCUTy.jpg

“We’re locked into a contract with The Sunshine Network for close to a year and our contract with Syndicated broadcasters runs nearly two years.”

Once Dutch had gotten over the shock of imagining that somebody thought it was a good idea to sign with Syndication for TWO WHOLE YEARS, he proposed cancelling them to shop for a better deal. Unfortunately, this would cost money and all of that was being squared away for the Hulk Hogan deal that was never going to materialise.

So Dutch had to grin and bear it. But, he was going to get the last laugh by assigning the show the most obnoxious commentary duo in the history of the business: Scott Hudson and Simon Diamond. Oh yes, music to your ears.

Bonus Question - how long will Sonjay Dutt vs. Elix Skipper be?

The answer closest to the time will be rewarded the point:

    </div>

  13. That was a good show to start out with, very realistic to what TNA were doing at the time. It's going to be fun to watch this develop. James Mitchell managing the Gathering? Yes please!

    1. While I've never actually asked, this is still a concern to me with my diary also. I can tell you that your format looks great as far as my screen/eyes are concerned via laptop. I've not read it on tablet yet, but any issues and I'll let you know. I don't think you've got anything to worry about :)

    2. I can understand your reasoning. It makes no difference to me in all honesty. I'd suggest going with whatever makes you happiest!

Thank you for the feedback, it's much appreciated. I think I'll continue with what I did for the first show then. :)

  14. No, it was never explained, nor was the cancelling of The Bucks heel turn. Sometimes I think this is the problem with not having writers, yeah the talents love working with bullet points for promos and having freedom but lack of continuity and narrative structuring definitely becomes a problem.

I thought the most recent Dynamite was good but I don't think this Kenny Omega story is working. Him and The Good Brothers are amongst my least favourite thing on the show at the moment, one of those angles where they have the wrong kind of heat.

  15. Joey is probably my third or fourth favorite announced ever, but that line made my skin crawl when it origionally aired. Maybe it's because I struggle deeply with mental health issues, but I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Even just to "sell" hatred.

As you said, there were countless others who jumped ship but didn't get any of the flack.

A lot ECW history is super revisionist anyway. All the praise gets dropped on Heyman, but according to countless people, Raven, Shane Douglas, and Tommy Dreamer had just as much to do with the creative direction as Heyman. Hell, Heyman basically dropped ECW into Dreamer's lap at the end

Yeah I think I agree with you on that. I think it's weird that wrestlers talk so often of shady promoters that don't pay their wrestlers and how much of a scumbag move it is, yet Heyman gets a free pass for it despite being the worst of the bunch. It's not like Mike Awesome owed him anything anyway, he was a big star in Japan pre-ECW, he didn't owe Paul E. his career the same way that maybe Taz or The Dudleyz owed him. And even then, those guys made themselves by being talented, the expectation that they should keep working for a bloke that wasn't paying them is just one of those stupid wrestling things I guess.

Obviously crass line, but it's possible they've just missed that over the last few years. I would hope a disappears quickly after your email, or I'll be very dissapointed.

I still haven't had an email back, they're probably ignoring my SJW ass. :p

Fightful, who is usually fairly accurate reports that the decision to break up the Hurt Business came directly from Vince. Heaven forbid a stable actually succeed on the main roster

I don't know why they do it because it just kills the momentum for all of them. Shelton and Cedric know they're back to catering and working Main Event by June, I can well imagine they're angry and frustrated at this nonsensical twist.

Welp, picking Sabin as a differential didn't go well :)

Pretty good show, some really good ratings there. Interested to see babyface Raven and Low Ki against former mates

In your defence, Sabin did win this match when they did it for real. :p

I was pretty disappointed by the main event, I don't know why but I expected at least a 70 given the talent involved. Maybe I just underestimated how important overness is towards the ratings?

    -

I've got a couple of questions for all the readers if you guys wouldn't mind?

    1. Is the font nice and readable for everybody? Does the format work for you? I use a laptop with a 13 inch screen, 1920x1080 at 125% scale so whilst I'm aware it looks good for me, that might not be the case for people on larger displays. Does it look good for everybody else?

    2. How do we feel about not having the match winners in bold at the end of each segment? I always did it in previous diaries but omitted it here as I felt it was almost a pre-emptive spoiler before you've read the piece.

Thanks for reading, Xplosion preview will hopefully come tomorrow. :)

    NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

    Standard Tag Team Match

3Live Kru (Konnan & BG James) © vs. Diamond and Swinger

Mike Tenay fills us in on the history between these two teams as 3Live Kru won the NWA World Tag Team Championship in November 2003, defeating the trio of Gilbertti, Diamond and Swinger. The history is palatable during the opening exchanges when Diamond and Swinger have to retreat to the outside and regroup but are pursued by the Kru, looking to press their early advantage.

It comes down to Konnan and Swinger in the final act, both Diamond and BG wrapped up on the outside after a Shake, Rattle and Roll has Simon trying to clear the cobwebs. Swinger goes for the Swing Thing but an elbow to the abdomen stops him in his tracks before “K-Dogg” decks him with an Urinage and locks in the Tequila Sunrise for a relatively routine submission victory.

    RosTA5U.jpg

As Diamond and Swinger make their way up the ramp, they encounter Glenn Gilbertti coming out with a microphone in hand. Jarrett has already been questioning the loyalty of the former NWA World Tag Team Champions and if they know what’s good for them, they’ll talk to Double J before they even think of heading to their hotel for the night!

He comes down to the ring to sing the praises of Jarrett, calling him the Chosen One, the greatest NWA World Heavyweight Champion of all time and the man that’s responsible for TNA Wrestling. Team Jarrett are taking over, they’ve told everybody that you’re either with them or against them and now time is up.

    kmxnyxR.jpg

“I get the impression that somebody has heard just about enough of this!”

One man who does quite clearly have a problem with all of this is D’Lo Brown. He comes down to the ring, microphone in hand and tells Gilbertti that Team Jarrett is outnumbered. Only stooges and fools like him follow Double J into battle! The Jarretts might have started TNA but this isn’t New York, down here wrestling belongs to the fans.

Before he can say much more, Team Jarrett’s David Young ambushes him and the bell rings to start the next match...

    Standard Singles Match

D’Lo Brown vs. David Young (w/ Glenn Gilbertti)

This match follows a trend throughout, almost every time D’Lo starts to get some momentum going and starts to use his superior size to his advantage, David Young manages to shut him down. Sometimes using his own initiative or with the assistance of Gilbertti seconding his fellow Team Jarrett alumni. Mike Tenay and Don West observe that they’re trying to deplete the oxygen supplies of D’Lo, fancying that the longer the match goes the more it favours the lighter and leaner David Young.

Unfortunately for him, when D’Lo does put this 270-odd pound frame to use he’s very effective. He wipes out both Gilberti and Young on the outside with a Diving Crossbody and then puts his opponent down for the three in the ring with the Sky High.

    Standard Tag Team Match

Raven & The Sandman vs. The Gathering (CM Punk & Julio Dinero)

CM Punk and Julio Dinero recently turned on their mentor Raven in a cage match also involving Abyss and the Red Shirt Security. This leaves Tenay and West to ponder on where their allegiances lie, are they in with Team Jarrett or are they going to tread their own path? There’s no time for them to think about that though, this match is about Raven’s sweet revenge.

He gets some of it, going to town on his former students, beating into them the consequences of their betrayal. But he may have taught Punk and Dinero a little too well because just as Raven was setting up Dinero for a Raven Effect…

    otYsMGO.jpg

“What in the world is he doing here! I thought he was gone for good!”

    James Mitchell appears!

Raven thinks he’s seen a ghost, he put Mitchell on the shelf but the former Sinister Minister has returned! He goes after his former adversary up the ramp but only gets a clattering to the face with Mitchell’s signature cane for his curiosity. As this is going on outside the ring, Punk and Dinero press home their numbers advantage courtesy of a Double Raven Effect DDT on The Sandman, CM Punk shooting a devious smirk at the hard camera as Andrew Thomas pounds the canvas to the count of 3.

    otYsMGO.jpgxiIzVUR.jpg5QeW72n.jpgtxRrIV0.jpg

With Raven face down and at the mercy of James Mitchell, he calls for Punk and Dinero to join him. They bring a steel chair, laying it down at the top of the ramp by the entrance tunnel. They follow every call from Mitchell, applying a front facelock to Raven and then driving him skull first into the steel chair with another Double Raven Effect!

The camera zooms to show an unconscious Raven, beaten and left in a heap by his former students. The Gathering stalk off and Mike Tenay wonders if his suspicions have been confirmed, are Punk and Dinero in cahoots with James Mitchell? What were their motives for turning on Raven and aligning themselves with such an underhanded individual?

    Standard Singles Match

    Chris Vaughn vs. Abyss

A member of Don Harris’s Black Shirt Security, Tenay explains that Vaughn took this match by himself to prove his courage. Don West watches the early exchanges and wonders if stupidity is the operative word rather than bravery. Vaughn might be useful for crowd control but monster control is clearly a different business altogether. Abyss takes some licks when Vaughn uses his speed and agility, the kid definitely has a nice Dropkick... but “The Monster” is never troubled at all and puts this one to bed within three minutes thanks to the Black Hole Slam.

    ElclwUV.jpgLgNP7OO.jpg

Abyss’s victory brings Jeff Jarrett to the ring and he pats “The Monster” on the back as he passes him on the ramp. He’s seconded by Don Callis, who calls himself a management consultant even though Tenay and West are curious what authority he actually holds.

Jarrett speaks first. He says that even though he lost to Sting on the last PPV, that doesn’t mean that “The Icon” is the #1 Contender. Sting has to earn his shot like everybody else. This is where Don Callis jumps in, outright lying that TNA would never approve Sting for a title shot because it’s just not what the fans want, it’s not in their best interest! Jarrett says that so long as he’s the Champion, so long as Team Jarrett runs things around here, he’ll decide when and where he defends his title.

    JRuVlt3.jpgY9sNA8F.jpg

“Here comes the NWA’s Director of Authority…”

Erik Watts comes out, flanked as always by his beautiful girlfriend Goldylocks. He reminds Jarrett that it’s the National Wrestling Alliance that calls the shots, it’s the Directors that decide the fate of that title and he’ll do what he’s told.

Don Callis tries to challenge this authority, TNA has its own management and their employee is the Champion... but Watts quickly shuts him down, reminding him that TNA is part of a larger alliance whose members cooperate with one another. He agrees with Jarrett that Sting has to earn his shot but he reminds Jarrett of a tag team match earlier in December.

A certain somebody was in that tag team match on the winning team and he won a match earlier tonight, that certain somebody being D’Lo Brown. The NWA sanctioned the match on the basis that D’Lo won tonight so next week it’s official, Double J vs. D’Lo for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship!

Jarrett is none too pleased and Callis can be heard remonstrating about a legal challenge but Watts turning his back and heading through the tunnel ends any notion of Team Jarrett trying to backdoor their way out of this one.

    Standard Trios Match

AJ Styles & America’s Most Wanted (Chris Harris & James Storm) vs. Kid Kash & Red Shirt Security (Kevin Northcutt & Legend)

Tenay illustrates that since Styles and AMW have been resistant to Team Jarrett’s recruiting attempts, the goal now is to try and beat them into some form of submission. Hence why the Red Shirts have been dispatched along with the experienced and athletic Kid Kash, the perfect nullifyer of “The Phenomenal One” if you will.

This match follows a simple pattern of Team Jarrett isolating one member from the opposing trio until they’re able to break away, tag out and start a rally. This works well until Kid Kash spots a certain somebody in the crowd...

    Pv4ER0x.jpg

“Don Harris, head of Black Shirt Security, making sure nobody else gets involved in this one.”

Seeing his bitter rival at ringside, Kash pursues him and the two wind up in a spontaneous brawl that goes into the crowd and to the top of the bleachers.

But this leaves the Red Shirts in dangerous territory and though Kash probably meant well, his decision to protect his team’s best interests all but costs them the match. Styles wipes out Legend on the outside with a springboarding Shooting Star Press that Billy Kidman would have been proud of. This leaves Northcutt with the “Cowboy” and the “Wildcat” in the ring. One Death Sentence later that’s all she wrote.

    TNA X-DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

    Ultimate X Match

Michael Shane © vs. Chris Sabin vs. Christopher Daniels vs. Low-Ki

After the fiasco that was the first Ultimate X match in which the belt fell to the canvas not once but twice, TNA management have learned their lesson and are now instead hanging a giant X from the wire, secured by a clipping mechanism. After some back and forth between the competitors, Shane is the first to try and scale the wires but he’s stopped in his tracks by Sabin, with Don West exuberant in his reminder that it was Chris Sabin who lost his X-Division Championship to Michael Shane in the first Ultimate X match.

Sabin is largely the aggressor throughout, catching Low-Ki coming down off the wire onto his shoulders for a Cradle Shock! But before Sabin can get any grand ideas, he’s knocked off the wire by Daniels and Michael Shane superkicks him into next week! Then there’s a rare moment of teamwork between former tag team partners, Daniels hits Shane with the Angel Wings and Low-Ki comes flying off the top rope with a Double Foot Stomp in stereo.

This leaves both Low-Ki and Daniels scaling the wire. A boot from Daniels frees Low-Ki’s left leg from the wire...

    fEn8HP4.jpg

“I don’t like the look of this Mike, can’t they just fight it out by themselves?”

Elix Skipper charges down and rolls in the ring, grabbing Low-Ki’s loose left foot and pulling him down! Tenay reminds us that once upon a time, Skipper, Low-Ki and Daniels formed the formidable trio of Triple X but those halcyon days appear to be a thing of the distant past. Low-Ki is taken aback by Skipper’s sudden interference but he doesn’t get a window to retaliate because Skipper buries a knee to his midsection and plants him with the Play of the Day!

Daniels doesn’t seem to know what to make of this development, he looks on as Skipper turns tail but the “Fallen Angel” still takes full advantage, releasing the hook to win his first ever TNA X-Division Championship. We go off the air with Daniels celebrating and Low-Ki looking scornfully up the ramp at “Primetime” loitering near the tunnel.

  18. For everything WWE have done editing content on the Network, it makes me very angry that it still features unedited commentary from Joey Styles on One Night Stand 2005. The line 'it's a shame he didn't succeed in ending his life' regarding Mike Awesome doing a suicide dive when Mike Awesome did in fact commit suicide a year later is just an incredibly sad line to keep in the VOD and one that makes me lose a lot of respect for Joey Styles. Who, by the way, gives The Dudleyz, Taz and all the others that jumped shit absolutely none of that flak. They left for the same reason, they weren't getting paid!

EDIT: I actually just emailed them this, I'll see what they say, haha.

  19. PREVIEW: NWA:TNA on PPV #76

    ElclwUV.jpg

    “This p****s me off!”

Jeff Jarrett had founded TNA with his Dad and was understandably upset at having lost more of his authority.

But Dutch assuaged his concerns by letting Double J remain on the creative team, though he was still irked by the admission that he would no longer be viewed as the company’s top star.

    iNSEqTF.jpg

“I’m not sure about this daddy.”

Dusty Rhodes had long pined for the head booker role, expecting to receive it after Vince Russo was put out the pasture as a prerequisite for Hogan’s arrival that never was.

He was disappointed to have been looked over but Dutch assured him that his years of experience both in front of the camera and behind it made him an integral part of the creative team and an important asset to the company.

    JWzIc0A.jpg

“If Dixie is okay with this then I’m as fine as the sky is blue.”

Terry Taylor was aware who buttered his toast.

With all his ducks in a row, Dutch turned his attention to the opened notepad in front of him and jotted down the match card for January’s first broadcast.

  20. Thanks for the comments guys, very pleased to have you all on board. Let's see if I've still got it, as the wrestling lingo goes :p

I hope Fatu gets to transform into an Umaga type character. In my opinion he's the best "savage" Samoan of all time. Plus Samoan Bulldozer is one of the coolest nicknames ever.

I thought that myself when I realised I had him on the roster. He has a really high Menace stat and a reasonably high Psychology stat so it's definitely an attractive prospect. :)
