bigtplaystew Posted August 20, 2013 Share Posted August 20, 2013 <p>I thought the HHH/Orton/Bryan promo at the end of Raw was brilliant up until the last 10 seconds of it. I always love a villain with good reason for being one. Not just because they're a bad person or a scumbag, but because they believe what they are doing is the right thing to do. Even though others are hurt in the process.</p><p> </p><p> HHH explaining that he did what he did for "Business" was exactly what I wanted it to be. That he wants Daniel Bryan to get his big win over John Cena and all that. He just wasn't about to let him parade around with the title belt as if he's the new face of WWE.</p><p> </p><p> I thought it played out rather well, and kind of put to rest the "Why would Orton and HHH ever be friends again?". Because it wasn't about personal feelings it was about business.</p><p> </p><p> I would have done the ending a little differently to leave a touch more ambiguity around the situation (for now). That whole conspiracy thing about people not thinking he's good enough, etc... They have to find things for them to do, and this was solid, they pulled double duty on Raw and may serve as potential henchmen for this corportation-like setting. This is nothing but good for them as they would've probably fell into irrelevance eventually anyway(I predict they'll all lose their titles at NOC).</p><p> </p><p> When you think about it, if they were completely going by their gimmick, they would've logically turned face by now. Or tweener-rogue. Because Trips has the whole locker-room on notice right now.</p><p> </p><p> Things feel good with HHH as heel again. And I think it was a little demeaning to them. Aren't they some sort of anti rules/authority figures sort of stable, serving their own justice? It really looks anti gimmick. How awesome would it have been to see them lay down for him or just hound around the ring, ready to pounce before dropping off the apron and leaving? It'd easily suit their gimmick as they could say they still believe in their goal to fight against injustice in the WWE. They could have then almost paired with Daniel Bryan (a guy who gave them fits not too long ago) against Triple H's squad (who would gain a couple more members.) It'd probably really help them from being so predictable in matches as Triple H, who recently said he doesn't like them running around out of control could do things to try and tame them, such as overwriting title match rules. So right now Triple H is paying them to be the bodyguards for his group but he starts getting cockier and maybe he doesn't like Dean's smartass attittude. He tries to get the Roman and Reigns to take him out and as they are walking towards Dean they just turn around and together attack Triple H. The Shield likes money but they value The Shield over anything. Face Shield could be the anti-heroes in the feud. Triple H, Randy Orton, Ryback and whoever else joins them are the villains. Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Big Show, and Henry are the heroes. The Shield are the anti-heroes. They can be the unknown factor who fight both groups. He put on a good match while injured, did the job clean for Bryan and put him over on the mic. Steph's weak apology was funny. Bryan calling her trash was even funnier. This angle is great.</p><p> <strong>Sandow vs Rhodes</strong> - The crowd sounded bored until Cody's dangerous moonsault. Rhodes on a roll.</p><p> <strong>Ziggler vs Shield</strong> - Good way to have the Corporation throw their weight around and put Ziggler over. Reigns catching Ziggler mid-air with the spear was a thing of beauty!</p><p> <strong>Del Rio vs Sin Cara</strong> - Same old match-up again but without the funky lighting. Bloody botch! ADR did well to play along in character. Ricardo! I was expecting Rey to come out next not RVD.</p><p> <strong>Real Americans vs PTP</strong> - Young comes out -- automatic face turn and a win. About time anyway. Good match.</p><p> <strong>Show vs Shield</strong> - Fun match. Where was Henry?</p><p> <strong>Punk vs Axel</strong> - Beserker rage mode! Fat Guy! Swearing! Classic CM Logan.</p><p> <strong>Truth vs Wyatt</strong> - Squash match.</p><p> <strong>Usos vs 3MB</strong> - Keeping the Usos strong. Primo & Epico repackaged as Matadors incoming for Zeb to hate on. Tag division getting built up again.</p><p> <strong>Miz vs Barrett</strong> - Another done-to-death match-up. Barrett back to losing.</p><p> <strong>Corporate Coronation</strong> - Vintage McMahon Family -- kissing their own asses and putting business first. Their gimmick is of a faction who will do "bad" actions yet, justify it under the guise of "justice". Nothing they have ever done has actually been just, only that they "justified" their help of CM Punk. This is a different situation as the WWE don't really care for the justification but it could easily be slanted that The Shield are protecting the WWE and WWE Championship. I think this is a good position for them, since it can actually build somewhere with them - whether into meaningful feud or possibly build to a face turn by some or all the members. Ziggler delivered a sweet Zig Zag to Ambrose, crowd went nuts. Bryan is up at this point and delivered that same flying knee to Rollins, sending Rollins flipping through the air. A very happy and thankful Bryan smiles at the roaring crowd and everything ends on a YES! chant.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I expect Big Ratings to take the tag titles off Shield at NOC. To me that pinpoints the greatness of some moments in WWE: The fact that I'm going back to them. I did the same for CM Punk vs. Cena at MITB for a long time. The "Yes!" chants at the end are just so, so unreal.. And unreal moment it truly was. I was shocked to see Bryan get the win with that knee.</p><p> </p><p> It'll be interesting to see where this goes to. </p><p> </p><p> ps. Orton is boring as hell. And while he's not the best performer he is consistent. He was getting decent pop before. He'd got his comeback down to such a science it almost looked lazy. He'd rally the crowd in a slightly awkward way. It worked. Crowds dug it. Randy Orton indeed 'gets it'.</p><p> </p><p> As a heel? They've never been more than hired guns justifying evil deeds with a certain sense of delusional grandeur. Can't imagine they're gonna develop into much more than lackeys at this point before the potential face turn. Titles will be gone soon.</p><p> </p><p> Oh well. Fleisch Posted August 22, 2013 Share Posted August 22, 2013 <p>If booked right, Randy Orton as a heel could be a great change... but not as the generic heel, he needs that undeterred aggressive, evil streak. 2009 Orton was probably the only time I've found him entertaining so going back to that persona (for me) wouldn't be bad.</p><p> </p><p> I'm just glad Cena's out for a few months so we can get something fresh in the main event for a change. Even without the belt it seemed like Cena appeared in more main events than the Champion.
