There's no real suspense in it or anything. Even Rob Zombie's films, which I do like, are very thin on suspense and high on gore. I work in a hospital and see my fair share of blood and guts every day. You gotta deliver a cool story or some interesting characters to get me hooked.</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> I definitely like suspense horror, better then gore horror. Scary movies don't hit you the same as when you were a kid. I know in my case, I'm not a religious or spiritual person at all anymore, so ghosts and exorcisms and things like weren't scaring me much. Because in my heart of hearts I truly don't think they're plausible threats to me in real life. Scary aliens kinda scare me because, like, I mean if there's aliens out there that can get here from a planet we don't even knows EXISTS yet, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU GONNA DO TO STOP THEM?? It'd be like an ant trying to stop your foot from stomping it to death. Just won't happen. </p><p> </p><p> Anyway, this is where suspension of disbelief kicks in and a great scary movie has to draw me in with a neat story or interesting characters to keep my suspension of disbelief going. Because I can watch a movie about a dude who puts on a bat suit and beats up bad guys, dodging every possible danger thrown in his way no problem. OR about a man who due to scientific experiments turns into a giant green monster when he's mad. Why? Because the stories/characters draw me in to look past all the nonsensical stuff.</p>

I've been having an "old school" phase recently and just finished watching the Alien films again. Hadn't seen them in years. I also watched Predator and Predator 2 - but can't bring myself to watch Aliens Vs. Predator again. I think once was enough for that film.

I remember when Micheal Bay was rumored to be doing AvP 1 and the movie nerds were all like "Please god no!!!!" In retrospect i WISH Bay had directed it. At least it would have had a decent fight scene or two.

But yea I love those Alien films. I love how different 1, 2 and 3 are in tone yet at no point feel like they're not related to each other. I recently re-watched Resurrection and the movie was more interesting than I remembered it. The end falls apart horribly but there's still a weird, moody, and wholey unique sci fi film in there worth seeing once.

As a major Arnold fan, Predator 1 is one of my "5 films I'd take on a deserted island". Predator 2 is very dated but kinda cool. Every single pistol in that movie has a scope or a laser sight on it lol.

Tonight I saw Pain & Gain. I knew next to nothing about the reality of what happened, but the movie itself was actually really good. I know Michael Bay has a reputation for having explodey, big block busters, but this movie actually seemed like him trying to get away from that. Sure, it was still an action comedy to an extent, but for the most part it's a well acted movie. There's times where you want to root for the Sun Gym Gang, but they show enough of their scum bag personalities to stop that.

Finding out some of the ridiculous crap in the movie that ACTUALLY happened though...just wow.

It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and I'm shocked Bay made a movie for $25 Million, but I enjoyed it a lot. I generally like Bay's movies, but I'm a fan of action movies.

After that we rented Drag Me To Hell and Cabin In The Woods. Drag Me To Hell sucked. I am a fan of Sam Raimi, but that movie just wasn't good. Seriously, this made Spider-Man 3 look Oscar worthy. The premise wasn't remotely interesting and the lead actress wasn't talented enough or even attractive enough to carry the movie. Justin Long, who I usually enjoy was even a bore in it.

Cabin In The Woods on the other hand...Awesome movie with a god awful ending. The premise, special effects, everything was just well done.

I saw Oblivion last Monday and enjoyed it a lot. It might have actually replaced the Mission Impossible movies as my favorite Tom Cruise movie. The plot was essentially Galactus/Unicron with robot minions instead of heralds, but it was really well executed and Cruise was on top of his game.

I saw the new GI Joe a few weeks back and really enjoyed that as well. The Rock and Channing Tatum had really great chemistry together. I hope they find a way to work together again.

i'm the exact opposite on Drag me to hell and cabin in the woods, i found CITW to be quite a bore, but i am in the minority has everyone seems to love it

DMTH i really enjoyed, but i love that style of slapstick comedy horror Raimi does

I Saw The Devil, i recently watched it and is an absolute gem of a film, i high recommend it to anyone who likes Tough Thrillers some will find it hard to stomach but is brilliant

went to see Evil Dead at the cinema, loved it, but i suggest going on IMDB board as its turned into the biggest troll fest i have seen in a long time, its amazing

wow the purge looks awesome

<p>I saw the new Star Trek movie this afternoon, the movie was great. I must admit I was a little disappointed that there were no Trekkies in the audience that were dressed up.</p><p> </p><p>

Bit of a spoiler here in white text please do not quote this...<span style="color:#FFFFFF;">Man did Alice Eve look hot in her blue mini dress. Okay that was not really a spoiler because it is a fact.</span><img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Man of Steel trailer recreated in Minecraft I need to see this movie NOW.

Recent movies I loved: Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness, Perks of Being a Wallflower and Like Crazy. Also watched V/H/S - a decent addition to the found footage genre.

Also watched The Vicious Kind. I'm a fan of Adam Scott from Parks & Rec but was unaware he had such good dramatic range. I think he'd be an awesome Hank Pym in Ant Man!

I saw Star Trek Into Darkness on Monday and honestly...I loved it. From opening scene to closing credits I was simply blown away. It was visually breathtaking, well acted, well written, Benedict was phenomenal, Quinto and Pine have incredible chemistry as Spock and Kirk, and Karl Urban is hysterical as Bones.

I am actually shocked at how much I love it. I've always been a casual fan of Star Trek. I grew up watching Next Generation and have vague memories of repeats of the original series, but I've never been a big fan of it. Not only did this movie make me want to go back and watch all the series and original movies, but it made me want to redownload Star Trek Online and dig out my Sega Genesis to play Star Trek: The Next Generation. It was one of my favorite games as a kid.

Okay, enough of talking up Into Darkness.

Tonight we rented Parker(starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez) and Dark Skies(Keri Russel).

Both were cliched, but well acted for the most part. Parker at least had kick ass action sequences and J. Lo's butt. Dark Skies was slow and anticlimatic. The alternate ending was even worse. I'm not going to post any spoilers or anything, but man, what a let down.

I'm a fan of sci fi thrillers, but Dark Skies wasn't thrilling at all and I honestly felt like JK Simmons was wasted. The aliens were never clearly shown and it was incredibly predictable. I called the "twist" somewhere half way through the movie.

PM me the alternate ending if you have the time? I saw it in the theaters thus didnt get to see the alternate ending. I'm curious.

I actually really enjoyed Dark Skies. By no means was it a good film and I don't disagree with your criticisms. It just hit me the right way. I like scary alien movies they freak me out. I saw "Signs" and loved it when everyone else thought it was dull and crap lol. Then again, I'm an M Night mark but I've buried myself enough for the purposes of this thread so I'll leave that be :-)

I am not intimidated by scary movies about ghosts, possessions, monsters, freaks of nature, zombies, etc. I ENJOY these films, but they're essentially dark comedies and or just guilty pleasures to me. They don't get in my head too much. For whatever strange reason, I find alien abduction to be a plausible threat even though it's just as unlikely as the other things I mentioned and it freaks me out.

Signs is one of the few M Night movies I thoroughly enjoy(Stuart Little and Unbreakable being the other two), but it treated the build up and reveal of the aliens really well. I hated the way they defeated the aliens, but the rest of the movie was great.

I'll type up the alternate ending for Dark Skies for ya and send it after this is posted. :)

Unbreakable is a god damned masterpiece. I maintain that it's one of the best movies of its generation. I will never forget the way I felt seeing that one live, the way it captured my imagination. The way Superman made people int he late 70s "Made you think a man can fly"... that's exactly how I felt seeing that movie. It made the superhero thing seem so real to me and so interesting and different.

I still feel so many modern comic book movies owe a great deal to that film but M Night is almost this dirty word in film circles.

Just watched Apollo 18. Such a great premise, such a lame movie. Man With The Iron Fists is up next. Hopefully it's more entertaining.

Man With the Iron Fists is fun. Nothing more. Nothing less. I'm into asian martial arts fantasy movies. So as far as like just a dumb goofy action movie in that world, I was into it.

Speaking of dumb movies, I thought Star Trek was okay, but so incredibly dumb it was kind of hard to take seriously as an action movie. Almost every decision every character made was so stupid. I also hated the fan-service-y call-backs, since they already had enough of them in the reboot. Do we really need tribbles cameos or shot-for-shot Wrath of Khan references?

I'm not even sure what my favorite crazy science moment was. I've always taken for granted that Star Trek has near-instant FTL communication devices so that captains can call into Star Fleet or what have you, but Kirk basically calls Scottie up on a cell phone and asks him to do a quick favor for him. I know it's not movie ruining, but it was one of dozens of moments that made me go "wait, how?"

On a more positive note: I loved Iron Man 3, and am really confused by most any criticism of it I've read. It was great.
