Diary Preview Thread

Recommended Posts

Full credit to bigpapa for the way he used music in GenS. Of course, a lot of credit has to go to the tvtropes Crowning Music page as well.

Music won't be a huge part of my diary (I really hate doing links - the barebones MAW style I've used these last two years will be retained) but the odd moment here and there will be assisted by the speakers.

Apologies for taking over the Preview thread, incidentally, but hey - this is helping me get amped up for Sunday, if no-one else :p

I'm not entirely certain how I got credit for your choices, but sure, I'll take it.

And you definitely not the only one amped up for this. Very much looking forward to it.

Now don't forget - babyface or heel, Rich Money is money.

I'm gonna test the waters here:

would any one be interested in a "How I book/how I write dynasties" dynasty by myself; a dynasty where my thought process in booking and story is transparent and is as important as the story being told.

Buy of this post goes to Rich Money have Queens of the Stone Age for theme music. I'll buy anything QOTSA.

Sell of this post goes to Eric Eisen having Battle without... as theme music. Sorry, but it's been overdone as theme music at this stage.

I would. When Fin had a similar diary, that seemed to go over well.

I have two rookie of the month awards that say yes, people are interested in that kind of a diary.

:o Never actually seen it before.

Although that would make Eisen want it that much more. "Maybe Goldberg used it. Maybe Christian Faith used. Maybe Misawa used this for his entrance when he was proclaimed the greatest wrestler since records began...

"From now on, when you hear it, you'll think of Eric Eisen."

BP, your use of music made me think a lot more about it then I had before, rather than just using your choices outright. I'm already pinching enough from GenS without pinching (much of) your music as well :p

I've used it twice - for the Tokyo Express in Gen-S (or whatever I called them), and as Ino's special PPV music in TCW. I would worry about it - you are going to hard-pressed to find a lot of music that hasn't been used by someone somewhere in regard to wrestling.

I'm glad the time and effort of picking music has positive (I hope positively) affected others. I don't honestly want to consider how much time I put into deciding on music, on either Gen-S or my current TCW project. Its a touch scary...

As for "pinching", whatever you want or need. I don't try to claim too much originality for most of what I did or currently do.

Not really a preview, but a quick question that doesn't really warrant it's own thread: When reading a dynasty that publishes grades for segments, do you prefer to read them as numbers or letter grades?

I prefer Letters, and here's a slightly ridiculous reason why;

To me, it always seemed like the people asking to view the grades as numbers were either newbies to the game, or a vocal minority of folks who found letters confusing. Therefore, if I see numbers in a diary, I imagine that the author is either fairly new to the game, or not that smart. Obviously, this isn't true, several awesome people and players and writers just prefer numbers, but it's that first impression, gut reaction thing for me. Numbers look amateurish.

Letters have been in TEW for years, so any-and-all veterans should be perfectly comfortable using them. Therefore, if I see letters in a diary, I imagine the author is a veteran. Again, not always true, but again, gut reaction. I'm biased though, because I prefer playing with letters. I prefer stats to be less specific.

Letters or numbers, it can get confusing both ways. I've always used letter grades so I'm totally lost when someone post actual rating numbers, the connection between the number and the letter is very slow in my little brain. I can imagine it works the other way too; someone who's extensively uses number could be confused by letters.

This said, I'd say for a diary, I think letter grades are all what we need. Readers don't need all the little mechanic details, it's more about reading a compelling story.

I'd never thought of it in quite that way Self, but I do prefer letters, just because I'm familiar with them. I know a C rated main event is good for a Regional fed, but if I see a main event rated 63, I have to convert in my head first, because my brain doesn't understand '63'. :p

Much like how I can understand French pretty well, but only after translating it into English. I don't THINK in French, just like I don't THINK in numbers, I think in grades. So I prefer reading grades.

On the other hand, numbers do give you a better idea of how matches compared to each other. Two C-rated matches can be told apart with numbers. So it does have one advantage.

I guess "Grade: C (63)" is a decent enough compromise...

I prefer letter grades, simply for the fact that it leaves some room for interpretation. Using numbers feels like its focusing too much on the actual mechanics.

I believe that if you took five wrestling fans and had them all watch the same wrestling show and grade each piece of it, you would end up with different grades across the board. Its subjetive. Personal tastes come into play. When you you letter grades, it feels like that is taken into account a bit. With numbers, its not.

A solid Wrestlemania show which is headlined by the epic second confrontation of The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels and The Phenom The Undertaker, the two put on a great performance but in the end the streak prevailed over the career, and one of the most decorated, loved and talented superstars in the industry has to walk away from it all.

World Wrestling Entertainment will no doubt have a huge void to fill with the Show Stopper no longer gracing the ring, but many feel there are workers within and outside the company who have the talent and ability to step into Shawn’s boots as long as Vince remembers that it’s sometimes about pushing the right people, not your favourites.

The Internet Wrestling Community, stated that the Wrestlemania show would have been a bigger success if McMahon would just drop the PG rating, but with money coming in left right and centre from kid’s buying tickets and merchandise and younger females coming for the eye candy this looks more and more unlikely.

The only thing that could cause this to happen is if Total Nonstop Action crosses the line of bad production and bad storyline writing which would lead to real competition for Vince and Co.

The so called new Monday Night Wars have so far been dominated by Monday Night Raw, but with the release of Vince Russo and the involvement of Shane McMahon behind the scenes causing a huge and public family dispute between the McMahon family Monday nights could become a lot more interesting.

The night following Wrestlemania 26 RAW was at the US Airways Centre, just down the road from the University of Phoenix Stadium in what proved to be a very emotional night. While a crop of new, exhilarating, young Superstars are being cultivated in the hothouse of WWE, it was time for one Superstar, Shawn Michaels, to bid farewell after offering up a 25-year feast of cherished memories and jaw-dropping moments.

MORE COMING SOON!

This is exactly why I don't use the numbers. You have to start a whole new game to understand what you expect with numbers, other wise it's just confusing.
